The food was really good, and I planned on giving 5 stars. But the bathroom was disgusting! The dirtiest I've encountered in a while.

Had I visited the ladies restroom prior to paying for our meals I would have left. It was very dirty which makes me wonder how clean their kitchen is. The signs on the building are very misleading. There is nothing special about the burgers. The meat on the burgers remind me of school burgers. The seasoned fries were tasteless. On a positive note, my coke was good. read more

This is the second time we have stopped here on our way from Houston to Dallas. We yelled in at 2:08 and did not get our order till 3:08. Over an hour for drive thru is completely disrespectful to the customers time. After almost an hour my husband went inside to ask for an update and the staff was rude and dismissed us for bothering them. One staff finally went to the back and found it waiting to be delivered. She pushed the bags at us and had an attitude. To top it all off, the food was cold and had been sitting in the back for a while. I ordered a cheeseburger and plain fries. Nothing stands out to tell me I need to come back. This rating is based on Whataburger being 5 star. They left off the tomatoes, but service was good and fixed it when I took it back up to the counter. A recommendation would be to upgrade their pickles. Sonic recently did that and now I rate their cheeseburger 4 stars. read more

The drive thru was busy at McDonalds so I gave this place a try and I was so delighted! I got a patty melt and it was delicious. 100 times better than McDonalds. The meat was piping hot and the bread crisp and toasty. My first time to go and I will be back!! read more

The food gets 5 Stars, but that's where it stops. A few suggestions: Clean the nasty air vents in the dining room. Replace the falling down ceiling tiles. Find something neutral to put on the TV instead of watching a deer get hunted down, killed, and gutted on a hunting show while you try to enjoy your meal. Same goes with the music; Easy listening is always a better choice over Christian Music. Employees just standing around while the place is filthy, tables are sticky, floor is dirty, the walls are dirty. They all looked so miserable to be there. I want to preface this with I was hungry but this place was pretty darn good. I had a bacon cheese burger with grilled onions and it was messy and delicious. The meat was good and it had the right amount if condiments on it. It was cooked well and the but wasn't to big. The fried where only okay. The restaurant it self seemed well maintained for a busy fast food place. They bring your food to your table, which is nice. The people where all very pleasant and the bathroom was well maintained. Highly recommend this over your typical fast food joint although it was a little pricey. read more

Really bad experience at this location. I really like TX burger and always stop by whenever we drive from Dallas to Houston, but this time at Madisonville location (142 exit) I got burger patties half eaten. So disappointed and disgusted. I opened the burger just to add hot sauce and was surprised to see half eaten burger patty and also they added onion and pickles which I said NO. I have to drive 30 mins back because I had already left on the way. I called them so many times on my way to let know but nobody pickup the phone so went back to show them their service and I can't eat this type of burger. Never trust this location ever. For us we will never stop by here for sure. read more

Always wanted to stop by and try it out since I saw the billboards advertising it. Was surprised to find out it's across the street from buc-ees in Madisonville. And even more surprised by the decor and the food. Nails the retro style and the food is superb. Recommend the patty melt with sweet potato fries. read more

Heading from Houston to Dallas, stopped here thanks to a sign on the road and was not disappointed. We had their patty melt with fries. Patty melt felt homemade (in a very good way) with some good fries that we wish we'd had more room for. Would definitely stop back by here again. Had a little bit of a wait, but it was a nice break from driving and they were just pretty busy I think. read more

On our way from OKC to Houston we spotted this converted old Sonic which is now a Texas Burger. Don't let the outside of this place deceive you. It is conveniently located on the opposite side of I-45 from Buc-ee's. We had looked at the reviews and decided to give them a try. We were glad we stopped. All the staff is extremely polite! I was really impressed to see all the young people saying "Yes, sir, how may I help you!" Great job! Burgers are good and the sweet potato fries are great. The men's restroom could use a little attention. The inside of the place is has a rustic feel. There is an outside patio too! Busy for sure decided to eat "in" they where busy but had full staff on board got my order done. Went to ladies room & by time I came out the gal was wondering around looking for my number. Pretty da-- fast service to say the least. Sat on porch but forgot my napkins & ketchup. Guy brought a family's order out and brought me ketchup & napkins with there napkins. Pretty great! Stopped by here as I wanted something other than a chain restaurant. Drive right by it first, it's right next to 45. I drove all the way past Walmart before turning around. Very unassuming building. I did the drive thru as I had my dogs in the car. The person taking the orders was very patient and kind with my questions. The menu isn't very descriptive if you are new! The Texas and Maverick burgers are the same, just the Texas burger is a bigger beef patty. All burgers are served with mustard and dressed all the way. The other burgers are pretty self explanatory. I ordered a Bacon Maverick. They asked me just to pull forward, not to one of the parking spots. My burger arrived within a Few minutes. Omg, it was GOOD! Beef was very flavorful, and plenty of crispy bacon pieces. Easily one of the best fast food burgers I've had. I didn't get fries as I wasn't super hungry. If you're driving up 45 from Houston this is the perfect spot to stop for a bite. I actually move my schedule around so I can stop here to eat, I love it that much. I've been coming here or the other location on 45 since I was young. Every time I come I reminded why. Good burgers with a nice simple menu, although there is plenty of variety if you ask me. Uses Nolan Ryan beef they say (didn't know that was a thing, and hey Nolan I still have your card if you wanna sign it) but wherever it came from it tasted fresh and I had an excelllent burger! read more

My personal favorite is the mushroom Swiss, but I will also venture out and get whatever their current "monthly special" is. Texas Burger = My husband's reward for driving us to Dallas and back to visit the family. I love it when his reward is such a tasty one. So tasty in fact that I always have to have one too! It's pretty much one of the cutest things ever. We're leaving Dallas and he gets this look in his eye and starts talking about how we'll stop for gas in either Buffalo, Centerville, or Madisonville, and I know EXACTLY what he's going to say next 'and maybe we can get a Texas burger while we're there.' So adorable. Anywho, enough mushy love stuff, Texas Burger is ridiculously good. I highly suggest the Madisonville location. The food is no different, but the place itself is way nicer *read: way, way nicer if you need to use the rest room while you're stopped*. This one also just had a little face lift and is looking very snazzy these days. The burgers are a good thickness and are cooked to order. They are seasoned very well and come out hot and juicy. The cheese melts nicely and the bread is soft and slightly buttered and toasted - perfection. The fries here are also AMAZING. They taste a lot like curly fries without the curliness. They're perfect for driving and eating because they're already so tasty you don't have to hassle with ketchup in the car - huge bonus! Texas Burger also serves Blue Bell ice cream and shakes. It reminds me of an old soda fountain where you'd just get a burger and shake and live happily ever after. If you're a burger connoisseur like my husband, stop in Madisonville next time you're around. Isn't it funny that a logo can influence your decision to try a fast food joint? I saw the Texas Burger logo on the exit signs and thought it would be cheap and dirty like my impression of Carl's Jr. But, when I stopped off the interstate to get some gas I noticed this updated welcoming burger joint across the street that looked more like a home than a fast food chain. When I went to investigate, I found that it was Texas Burger! The slogan plastered on the side of the building..."You could find a cheaper burger, but then you'd have to eat it." got my attention, and I thought, "good point." So I figured the burgers were going to be spendy, but my combo was under $6!!! What really sold me was the ingredients appeared fresh. Seem to good to be true? Try it! After the Buc-ee's debacle, my mom saw a sign for Subway and asked if we wanted to go. I really wanted to have something I could not get back in Atlanta so I suggested Texas Burger when I saw the sign. It turned out to be a very good choice. The first thing I noticed was the huge counter filled with buckets of Bluebell ice cream. I really wanted some, but everyone would have regretted that decision in about thirty minutes given the lactose intolerance and all that. The burger I got had very good flavor and was cooked well for a fast food type place. It was pretty thick and I could definitely see some pink. The fries were okay, but a little different. Still good though. It was fairly crowded too. They had spaces for drive thru people to wait for their orders to be ready which was cool since the burgers are thicker and take longer to cook. The weirdest part was that the sign on the wall and on the exterior claimed they had been open since 1973 but the baskets claimed they opened in 1974. If this were Mississippi or Alabama I would chalk that discrepancy up to inbreeding or lack of indoor plumbing. I really should have asked what the deal was. Definitely a good spot to stop between cities that is not your usual exit food. read more

The bad: super thin 1/4 lb patty sandwiched between mustard, mayo, buns and fresh veggies. I loved that they used sliced red onion rings, but the meat was just too thin to enjoy. Maybe I should have gone with the double. The final impression: I'd give TX Burger another chance, but for now, I'd rank this fast food burger worse than the state homegrown chain, Whataburger, but without a doubt much better than In-n-Out or McDonalds. read more
