I went on a four hour self-guided tour through Daufuskie Discoveries and really had no idea what to…read moreexpect since there were no reviews anywhere. But since we were spending the weekend in Savannah, we thought it would be a neat adventure (plus there was a groupon!). We drove to a marina just a few miles out of Savannah and met "Captain Jim" who took us on a 20 minute or so boat ride to the island (the only way you can get there). On the ride there we spotted a few dolphins swimming close by, the closest I've ever seen a wild one swimming and I'm from Miami... Once we got there an "Island Boy" (that's what Captain Jim called him) met us on a golf cart, had us fill out a waiver, gave us a map, and the keys to a golf cart. For the next four hours we drove around on our sport golf cart on paved roads and some dirt roads to points of interest as indicated by the map. Apparently only 150 people or so live on the island now so it was rare to run into other people and if you did they always waved from their golf cart as you passed by. We only saw two people drive cars the whole time there. There were a bunch of historical houses, churches, cemeteries, and a "ruin" to look at. The history of the island is kind of sad going from running a bunch of plantations or so, union control, a bustling oyster shucking business, 80's tourism boom, to not a whole lot going on...It kind of felt like we were exploring an abandoned island. The beach was really pretty as well - I would have liked to spend more time there, but the weather wasn't the best that day. When our time was up we drove back to the marina, met Captain Jim, and he drove us back to the mainland. Overall a very interesting and successful trip!

Everyone at Daufuskie Discoveries is very friendly and extremely helpful. While DD is great with small groups, they really earned their stripes this weekend in organizing and delivering more than 80 people to Daufuskie for my sister's wedding. Despite all of the delayed flights and schedule changes, Brit managed to deliver everyone safely to and from Daufuskie. They also managed to get us a fleet of golf carts to accommodate everyone. I look forward to my next trip.

If you love history with a side of gorgeous scenery, Fort McAllister State Park is absolutely worth…read morethe stop. Fort McAllister is a Confederate earthen fort built along the Ogeechee River to protect Savannah during the Civil War. It's famous for for withstanding multiple Union naval attacks before ultimately falling during a land ambush in December 1864. By capturing the fort, Union forces had a clear path to the city of Savannah and kick-started Sherman's infamous March to the Sea. Today the park contains a visitors center, a small (but jampacked museum), campgrounds, the historical fort site, and more. The museum may be small, but it's packed with in-depth exhibits. You'll easily pass at least an hour here if you really take your time to read through everything. I especially loved the unexpected Henry Ford connection to the fort. Walking the grounds of the fort was the real highlight though. Fort McAllister is one of the best-preserved earthen forts from the Civil War, and you can explore the ramparts, cannons, and earthworks. Whether you're a casual visitor or a die-hard history buff, this park delivers a great walk in history's footsteps. Highly recommend carving out a few hours here!

Not included in your camping fee/lot fee. I would suggest that you consider one price because it felt cheap that even to park RV on paid lot required a parking fee. Made no sense and felt very cheap.

From the moment we set off, Bryan's energy, knowledge, and sense of fun made the trip something truly special. We went shark tooth hunting (and found A LOT!), got an awesome history lesson along the way, and explored beautiful Daufuskie Island. Bryan is not only an incredible captain but also a fantastic guide who made the entire experience engaging and memorable for the whole family. Finding him and the boat was easy and he was ready to go. We took advantage of the cooler on board and thanks for the blanket because it did get cold once the sun set. We learned a lot about the Savannah waterways and history but at the same time we also got to just sit and take in the incredible sunset and dolphins. You can tell he just loves doing this! PS we loved his music taste too :-)

A trip to Savannah can't be completed without a visit to Bonaventure cemetery, one of the most…read morehaunted areas in Savanah, about 10-15 minute drive from historical district. This cemetery is also famous from the book and movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The cemetery provides a tour, $30 per person. You can also do your own tour. We did not take the tour due to crunching in time. We downloade a map from the Bonaventure historical society and drove through the cemetery. We stopped at the interested area and walked around to visit famous tombs. There are many symbols and beautiful statues carved by a famous sculptor, John Walz. The most famous grave is Gracie, in section D, who belonged to little Gracie, who died in 1889 at age 6 from pneumonia. Other tombs like Hershbach angel in as well as Taliaffero in section D. Section H and F also have amny beautiful statues.

You know what, things started going right when SEGWAY OF SAVANNAH rebooked us at a later time and smiled while doing it. Kat was a wonderful guide and my family enjoyed zipping along on Segways. Pros: - You really get time to observe the city as you scoot along.
