I've dined in twice before and both times were very good. I ordered the panang curry with beef which is thick and very flavorful. On my second visit I ordered the curry puffs which were a little disappointing but only bc I have been spoiled with homemade curry puffs before and these did not taste as good. My boyfriend ordered the drunken noodle which was made with pad thai noodles (glass noodles) and not the flat, wide noodles. The prices are a little on the higher side for normal entrees but worth the price. I would eat here again. read more

Nice choices but no crab rangoons! Love that you can get rice noodles with entrées. They also have the traditional pad Thai and drunken noodles dishes as well as curries. Prices are a little higher then down the street but the atmosphere and the staff are wonderful. Still love the people that work here and the food is delicious with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. Their curries are some of my favorites. My problem is a dinner we had about a month ago. We came in at 8:10 on a Friday night with 5 people (weird time but one got off work at 8 and another is a time fanatic so 8:10 it was). Several other tables dining as well. We go here often so it doesn't take us long to order. Food was great and we were winding down around 9:00. They close at 9 on Fridays (we didn't know this, our bad) and we didn't think much of it since we were wrapping up anyway. At 9:03, the vacuum comes out. Others are still eating at tables. Then the lights, as if it's closing time at a bar. Staff is now encouraging people to leave. It's 10 minutes after close. Other tables still had food on the tables. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 15+ years and not even at the dive joint I worked would we have pushed people out the door like this at 10 minutes passed closing. I've waited over an hour after close for the last customers to leave restaurants in which I've worked. Since we've come in often, the owner is familiar with us. As we're getting up, she comes up to me and says "Next time come in earlier". I thought she was kidding and said so. She said "no, seriously'. I really couldn't believe it and laughed. If you didn't want us there you should have said we close at 9 promptly when we sat down instead of after we dropped over $100 at your business. I love the food so much but this was one of the rudest things I've ever experienced with the owner...not staff. I checked online to see if they have a notice on closing in the menu and it states that they won't seat you after 8:30, which was not the case for us. 8:10. I've decided I won't go back because my business isn't appreciated. I came in here once a month on average with 3+ in the party every time, but I've now found a few alternatives (not Thai Garden, ew) that are delicious and welcoming, just not in Middletown. read more

The food was ok and the portions were small. I had the chicken laab and it was very strongly seasoned with ginger. Not sure if that's how that dish is supposed to be. The atmosphere was nice and the wait staff was friendly. The price is steep for the amount of food served. read more

I love this place! Great, flavorful food, fantastic service, food is served quickly. The staff there including the owner, Tata, is very personable and helps you make choices when you're not sure. Tonight when we went I happened to order something very spicy without realizing it, and she came over to our table to mention it. When I said I hadn't seen that, she said she would go back and make sure it wasn't too spicy for me. Now tell me, where else are you going to find service like that? The delicious flavor of the the food is what is going to hook you! Out of this world. My husband, who is more a steak and potatos kind of guy, likes going here too because the food is so fresh. My son lives in Middletown and liked this restaurant so my wife and I drove up to meet him there on a weekday evening. Before we could even taste the food we encountered a problem with the service. The young woman who was serving our area did not make eye contact at all, even as she served other people nearby. We kept expecting her to stop and bring water but nothing. I should add that we are a mixed couple and although this happened to us once in the south, we were unprepared to encounter it in CT. After 20 minutes, our son gets up and goes over to the older waitress serving the other area and she comes over mumbling something about being busy and never even acknowledges making us wait, even although she had seated us. She had just started to wait on a huge table of Wesleyan students who came in after we did. If my son had not gotten up to speak to her directly we probably would not have been served I guess. The food was OK but the incident left a bad taste in my mouth, no pun intended. read more

The food is great. The service not so much. The restaurant was almost empty. We walked in to get a table for 5 and were turned away cause "they had a busy night coming up." This is the 2nd time we have been turned away by the owner for a pretty silly reason. Not sure if it's something personal or what is going on. Always my go to place for Thai food when I am in the area! I love the drunken noodles ... I think it's the best thing on the menu! The Pad Thai is my second favorite! I tried the Thai food down the road (it's competitor) and there is no comparison: Typhoon is better priced and better tasting by far! Typhoon is a restaurant that serves what I'd call a fusion of Asian cuisines, with an accent on Thai. They've recently (by this I mean sometime in the last few years as of 2007) moved into a larger location on mainstreet, while the locale doesn't quite have as much family charm, the food has gone from absolutely wonderful, to tastebud orgasm. Good food, solid service, affordable. I've dined there about a dozen times. The basil fish and massaman curry are very good. Prices are reasonable. It's BYOB, so that makes it quite affordable if you bring a bottle of wine or beer. The lunch specials are delicious and *extremely* affordable - where else can you get something fresh, tasty and healthy for $5? I dined there late one night - they were obviously closing up when we arrived - but they seated myself and my date graciously. On the admittedly rare occasions that my wife and I seek out a Thai restaurant we want 3 things. Cleanliness, service and good quality food. At our recent visit here, we found not one of these. They gave us dishes that were not properly cleaned, and, after some discussion, they gave us clean plates. The staff was disinterested and lethargic, and the dish (eggplant with tofu) was not properly cooked. When we pointed out the poorly prepared food to the manager, she became angry with the chef, but made no move to correct the error. As we prepared to leave, the manager advised us that, since we had eaten the spring roll and soup appetizers, we were expected to pay for them, but not the inedible eggplant. Thanks a lot! Amazing Thai food! The tofu's kind of terrible, but honestly, I'll still give it the full 5 stars because everything else is great. I usually get take-out from here, but when I do eat in, my friends and I almost always get a complementary appetizer or something. I think that's pretty common, based on what I've heard from others. What an awesome restaurant. I can't believe people complain about the customer service here. We had an awesome time! The servers were very friendly and welcoming. I love BYOB restaurants, so I was surprised to see a nice big sign announcing that they are byob. They charge you a dollar per person to drink, but that's not that much. I ordered drunken noodles with tofu, and my fiance had pad thai. I wasn't aware that they make their drunken noodles with the skinny rice noodles that usually come in pad thai and I was disappointed when I got my meal. I hate complaining, but I asked them if they could change it to the wide really chewy rice noodles, and they took my complaint graciously and didn't make me feel bad. Everyone was super nice, and they were very attentive. I will definitely be coming back! There was a really nice mellow band playing while we were there too, on a Friday night. read more

Hands down, the best thai food I've eaten. I try to go to other places since Middletown isn't always convenient to get to, but I always leave other places disappointed. Typhoon has me spoiled. No one does pad thai like Typhoon. It has so much flavor and manages to be slightly sweet and spicy at the same time. The red curry is absolutely delicious. The sauce is thick and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. I literally pour it all over everything and dive in. I love the choice of vegetables they place in it. Sometimes I save the leftover sauce and make my own chicken the next day and pour it on. Ta-Ta, the owner, is very nice. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because they don't take reservations and if you go there on a busy night, good luck. They've also gotten my to-go order wrong on occasion. Love Typhoon! My husband and I eat here regularly and have never had a bad meal. Excellent place for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The owner is a bit "quirky," and tends to interrupt everyone's dinner with "announcements," but honestly it's less annoying and more a part of the restaurants charm than anything else. I love Thai food and when I visit my family in Middletown (live in Philadelphia), I always go here with both family and friends. I grew up going to Thai Garden down the street but now mostly go here because the food is just as good and less expensive. I love Pad Thai and have tried it in many places in both CT and PA and this is my favorite place, both for the quality of food and price. It is in a great location right next to Main St Market with parking on Main St and the Market lot in the back. Would highly recommend it. read more

First time eating at this establishment tonight. The food was outstanding. The ladies were sweet and had a great sense of humor. My girlfriend had the Pad Prik King and I had the Spicy Basil dish, both were packed with flavor and excitement. The veggies and the shrimps were great quality. We will definitely be back. For those of us who knew Typhoon when it was FIRST in business in the smaller place, we are all sad wondering what happened to the good old Typhoon from the beginning? Ever since it moved to the bigger place, everything changed. The food used to be fresh, the service was good and it was worth the money. The couple of times we bothered to go to the new place, our group was monitored so much b/c it was a weekday and I guess the staff wanted to go home (it was literally 9:00 p.m.) The waitress stared at us and the minute it looked like we might be done, she would come and sweep your plate away! time to go, I guess. Then on another occasion, my husband and I were also KICKED out of our seat after eating......give me a break! But, the final time I was served old chicken. It was dry around the edges, and it just tasted and felt like it was 3 day old chicken. So, that was the LAST time we will ever go to typhoon. You guys can have it! read more

Had dinner with 6 friends Saturday night because unlike the Thai restaurant down the street Typhoon actually had the whole fish they advertised on their menu, and was it terrific. Fried and sauced to perfection and rather large fish to boot. Place was jammed so service was a little erratic but no matter, while we waited we imbibed the numerous bottles of wine we brought thanks to their BYOB liquor policy. Pad Thai was especially good as were almost all of the aps and entrees. Definetly a winner. read more
