So, my boyfriend decided to surprise me by popping into Ty's and grabbing me some food. He grabbed their fried fish sandwich with fries as well as a chicken salad. When he brought it home, I decided to dive into the fish sandwich and fries while saving the salad for a future meal. I am absolutely not a fan... The fries and sandwich arrived nice and hot! And the sandwich is really big... I had to hold it with both hands. So that, I was satisfied with. But upon closer inspection and after a few bites, I was left dissatisfied for several reasons: - strong fishy taste after every bite! Definitely gave me the impression that this fish was not fresh - you would think that a fish sandwich would be made out of fillets with minimal bones, right? Nope! Not this sandwich. True rating: 3.5/5 I got the jerk chicken and henny wings. The jerk chicken had a little spice to it, and was pretty good (i am nigerian tho, so not much is spicy to me but for others it may be very spicy). Also as a Side note, The sauce doesn't really taste like true jerk sauce tho (take it from me, I've been to Jamaica!). Now the henny wings was the star of the show. They were very good and flavorful and i love how you can taste the char grilled and smoky flavor (since they are smoked wings). I believe you do have the option to get them fried though if you ask. I was a little annoyed that i called and placed the order he said ready in 15 min, i got there in 25 (gave them extra 10 min). I placed an order over the phone and the associate was very patient with me due to my first time ordering. I was unsure of what to get and he explained the menu to me and insured me to take my time to think on what to get. That made me feel comfortable. Ya'll, this food tasted as good as it smelled! The wings are super crispy (a couple minor burned spots) but that's okay...the flavor was on point! They weren't dry at all and were so good! I ordered the Wing Dinner and it comes with two sides. I asked for half Henny wings and half Garlic Parmesan with collard greens, Mac & cheese and a side of plantain. The wings are cooked to order and everything came out hot and fresh... they're cooked so perfectly they fall right off the bone. The Henny wings are definitely a must try! We order the large oxtail entree with macaroni and cheese and rice and peas; 10 wing appetizer half Hennessy and half Jerk, and a 10 wing entree plain with double fries. The oxtails were good even though it was a different twist to the normal Jamaican oxtails that I am use to. The peas and rice was ok but the rice was a bit over cooked. Once the gravy from the oxtails was mixed with it, it was enjoyable. The Mixed wings both were a no for me. They both had a burnt grill taste and it seemed sauce was just thrown on them. They were over cooked and full of potatoes and carrots. The Space: 96 sanitation score and sparse decorations. It was kinda hot and muggy in there as well. The Value: Too much for too little. I could've eaten 3 times for $20 with way more food. The Service: I was greeted when I came in. The only person working there was also the cook, cashier, and waiter. Not sure if that's how it always is but when I asked about the oxtails cook offered to bring me "a couple more" and explained they don't cut the meat. He did bring one and a half with potatoes. I admit, I have been staking this place out for about a year. I'd drive past but every time I had intentions of visiting, something would come up. But today I was able to make my initial visit. The first person I got to talk to was Ty himself. Ty was a very down to earth and humble man. We ordered our food and sat down in the dining area. The area was clean and well-kept. After about 10 minutes or so, Ty brought out food to us. It was piping hot and smelled delicious! My first first bite of the henny wings was magical. I knew this was a match made in heaven lol. My wife had half teriyaki and henny wings. She loved hers as well. I had two sides with mine; the mac and cheese with the collard greens. Both were exquisite. I loved the portion size because I had another full meal out of this one. All I can say is that Ty's Wings and Tings is the real deal. I was very undecided on what to get because it was my first time there. The young man was beneficial as he gave me several different recommendations. And was very patient with me.
