Was craving some Italian ice but couldn't find anything nearby late-ish. My sweet tooth lured me alllll the way out to Berkeley despite there being a location closer me in San Francisco but this place definitely didn't disappoint! Upon arriving, the space was packed to the gills - always a good sign. :) Had to wait in line a bit but it gave me a good amount of time to think of what to get (and there was a A LOT to choose from). Ultimately, I landed on a 'Vegan' Strawberry Bingsoo (Korean Ice). Served in a stone bowl sat a heaping pile of strawberry snow, topped with whipped cream and fresh fruit. As a few sides, I was given condensed milk and a sort of jam. Individually, everything was delicious but paired together... pure bliss. Also got their Mango Sticky Rice snow which was BOMB. I love rice anything but the warm rice against the cold snow was everything that I look for in a dessert. Kind of costly, and definitely an insta-worthy place if that's your gig. I'm more of an old fashioned kind of, dingy hole-in-the-wall kind of eater so I'm not sure that I'll ever come back but maybe I'll take something to go if it's on someone else. read more

Having been here several times, the food is worth the somewhat expensive price and walk if you're coming from campus. The Hojicha shaved ice is amazing, as are their seasonal menu items and Mille feuille cakes. In addition, the presentation never disappoints. Don't think I can have the full U Dessert experience during this covid. We ordered the mango sticky rice bingsu and the young coconut pandan crepe cake. Take outs just doesn't do this place justice. The experience is different from my last at the Marina, SF location. The mango sticky rice bingsu was good but the coconut pandan crepe was okay. We got the mango bingsoo, which came with condensed milk, mango purée, and pandan (?) sticky rice on the side. The shaved ice itself was already really sweet so we didn't add the condensed milk, but the purée and sticky rice were a really nice touch. I'd get it again if it wasn't so expensive...it just doesn't feel worth the $16! We also got the honey brick toast with vanilla bean ice cream, which was a bit underwhelming and overly sweet. Also not worth the price point. Overall, this is a solid dessert spot in gourmet ghetto with a lot of really creative dessert (and food) options, but the prices are steep given how small the desserts are. Overhyped and overpriced. The Thai tea crêpe cake was so bad that my friend and I barely ate 25% of it. We loved the sauce it came with though. The mango bingsoo was better, but still not exceptional. And the price... Dinner prices at a mediocre dessert spot. I will say their hojicha banoffee is quite good, but the texture of the cream was so off-putting, I'm sure it would've tasted much better if they just used cool whip instead. Service is fair. Ambiance is quaint. The interior is quite nice and there's no shortage of menu items. That said, I really don't see myself ever craving anything from their menu. U:Dessert is now in Berkeley!!! I love U:Dessert so so so SO MUCH. They got the best matcha crepe cake ever! LADY M has nothing on U:Dessert and I mean it! Their crepe cakes has layers for days. Layer on layer on layer on layer.... LOL I really love how they drizzle HEAPS of liquified matcha over the top and over the Anko paste. It's super delicious and the matcha isn't sweet as you would expect. Its actually floral, a little bitter, slightly citrusy and very fragrant. You can definitely tell they are using a higher quality Matcha powder. The price is justified. TRUST. Their Thai Tea toast is unexpectedly good and great for sharing between 2-4 friends. Decided to come when it first opened. Was impressed by the aesthetics, as it had plants and floral arrangements to liven up the place. Bf and I were excited to try their different desserts. Had to wait a couple minutes because it was packed with people. We got the mango bingsu, coconut pandan crepe cake, mochi, and blue lychee drink. Mochi: 3/5 - did not taste authentic to Japanese mochi - mochi itself had no flavor, lacked sweetness - the sauce accompanying it was too sweet, didn't go well with mochi - very powdery Mango bingsu: 5/5 - splendid, as it came with huge chunks of mango, condensed milk, and sauce. - very sweet but the sweetness was not overwhelming Crepe cake: 3/5 - beautiful presentation with flowers and powdered sugar - was alright, a bit pricey for the portion - average compared to other places who sell the product (there's a matcha place nearby that offers a better crepe cake) Blue lychee drink: 5/5 - love the contrast between the blue and white in the drink itself - very fizzy/caffeinated in a good way - contains pieces of real lychee Also ordered their matcha mochi waffle with fried chicken for delivery! I love the dessert but def not the price point :( Dessert: my fav is the strawberry cheesecake bingos. God that thing is good and the cheesecake bites are an amazing addition. Only drawback is the shaved ice can taste a bit icy lol if that makes sense and not as flavorful as I would expect with condensed milk but I guess that's just how they make it. A coconut panda-crepe cake, a mocha latte with services charges +++ the bill amounts to almost $30 in a college town. I am not certain why would people wan to come to here! I tried the Matcha Latte, the Tiger Earl Grey Tea with Boba, and the Thai Tea Bingsoo. They were all pretty good. The Matcha Latte had a good proportion of matcha and milk. The Tiger Early Grey had a nice blend of earl grey and the milk tea. The boba was a little too sweet for my taste. The Thai Tea Bingsoo had a great Thai tea flavor that wasn't too sweet and wasn't too bitter even with all the toppings. Overall, it is good quality ingredients but it is really expensive. read more

I'm so happy that they opened this place in Berkeley! Now I don't have to cross the bridge to get dessert anymore. This location is just as good as the one in SF. I really love their mango bingsu with sticky rice. The mango bingsu is really creamy and light. I like how they put the condensed milk on the side so we could control the sweetness. The sweet sticky rice that comes with it is REALLY good. It goes really well with the bingsu. Their mille crepe cake is also good, but I still like Lady M better. I've also tried their hojicha and matcha lattes before and they're decent (strong tea flavor). There's paid street parking right outside, but you can actually find free street parking in the residential area (1-2 blocks away). read more

Recently opened with a big following generated from their San Francisco locations, desserts only at this time in this family owned operation with the expectation of savory items in the future. So why 2 stars? Hygiene is very, very important to my wife and me. We observed the following: - Immediately seated at a just cleared table and noticed stuff all over the "stained" cushioned bench seats. Opened less than a month and there are syrup stains on the bench seats. Furthermore, the just cleared bench seat had a bunch of white flaky stuff on it. I wanted to tell the Owner but my Wife cleared it with her menu. Management needs to check and wipe down seats before assigning to people. - I guess that was a precursor to further hygiene issues as we noticed that an older man preparing the desserts was having a coughing fit. He kept preparing while going through a few minutes of noticeable, loud coughing without turning away or walking away. Never covered his mouth or turned away from the food prep area. Owner undoubtedly heard all this and did not provide guidance to the man to walk away to stop the coughing fit. He definitely did not turn away from the food. We will not return. The crepe cake was good, but wasn't as delicate as i'd hoped. The pandan flavor was really mild, mostly overpowered by the coconut cream. I came in around 5pm. We got seated immediately upon arrival. There was only 1 waitress serving the whole place! It did take awhile for us to get any help, but it was understandable with the place being filled.
