This was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've had. I reserved a truck for Thursday, only to arrive and find that there was no truck available and no one in the office. After the inconvenience and stress of having to change plans during a move, we finally obtained a truck from another location on Saturday. I also rented moving blankets that I ended up not using. Before returning the truck, I called and was told I could receive a refund for the unused blankets as long as it was handled while the store was open or after the truck was checked in. However, when I returned the truck, I was told that wasn't possible, that it wasn't company policy, and that the employee had no idea who would have told me that. The issue wasn't even the $20. What was unacceptable was the way I was treated. The employee told me that maybe I needed a different profession if I was arguing over $20. That comment was rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. Moving is expensive and stressful, and every dollar matters. To make matters worse, we returned the truck with more gas than required, so we actually spent extra money there as well. The lack of communication, failure to honor what I was told over the phone, and disrespectful customer service left a very negative impression. I expected much better from U-Haul. read more

I've never had a worse experience than at this dealership and I've rented from U-Haul for years. The GM here is very disrespectful. He will interrupt you mid-sentence and keep repeating himself, getting louder as he does it. Super unprofessional. I rented a 20' trailer and wasn't told it had to be returned to that specific location. I called the GM and asked him to make it right since I wasn't told (I wouldn't rent this U-Haul if I was told that given I was traveling over 75 miles) and he told me I was basically lying to him since he confirmed his employee did tell me I had to return it to that specific location. The employee lied (I get it, he needs the job) but the GM is not willing to help right wrongs. The GM said my only option was to pay the $500 wrong location fee or take the trailer back to the right location (PAYING FOR THE MILES). What a nightmare. I won't be using U-Haul again. The location was fairly easy to find, but parking was sketchy - they had a limited lot at the top of a hill that you park at, and have to walk down to access the storefront. They also have parking spots at the front of the shop but they told me that I couldn't park there. I don't know if those spots were for staff parking, but it seemed odd. The staff were friendly and helpful enough, and checking in and out was a straightforward process. Rented today and the truck's gas tank was on Empty with the fuel light on. Returned it with more gas than was in it when we picked it up, and they still charged us $52+tax ($30 fuel charge and $22 for gas) for gas, on top of the regular fee and mileage. We had a truck rented out the week prior for this Saturday, as my mother passed away and we needed to get the rest of her things into a storage unit this weekend. at about the time we were to be picking up the truck, I get a call that there is nothing available and did we want to drive down to Burien to pick up a larger truck same cost. This is the second time in 2 tries of using Uhaul that we weren't able to just utilize what we paid for, on the day we wanted to utilize it. The previous time the keys magically disappeared. I will never attempt to use Uhaul again, and would recommend EVERYONE try PENSKE rentals, they saved the day for us. We were handled by the General Manager, herself. And experienced excellent customer service as she checked us in and showed us the truck. The truck was clean and perfect for what we needed! We even got a nice discount and extra miles for dropping the truck in different location than originally contracted that worked even better for us. I see other people having difficulties. We have had absolute nightmare experiences in the past with Budget. But this experience with UHaul was one of the best business transactions we have had. We did our homework and uploaded all of information before arriving, maybe that's why we had such a good experience. But our experience with this UHaul and the general manager, Ms. Williams could not have been better. Thanks so much for helping us with a project we've been wanting to get done for a very long time! Took my van there to have a trailer hitch installed and I am 100% certain they dinged my vehicle. I had just gotten it so I know it wasn't there before the service. They spent an hour struggling with a bolt in the exact same spot. They should be renting VW Beetles, because this is a 100% person clown run business. The service wasn't friendly, it wasn't fast and it wasn't competent. The favorite part of my rental was driving out of the lot to have the manager wave me down to take my furniture dolly and hand truck. Now, I was leaving because I assumed the truck I reserved a week earlier would be loaded with my gear. I was also leaving because I was given no instructions that I had to request the items that I reserved and paid for and I was also leaving because they advertised how much time I was saving by reserving online. They make it sound like you can just show up and grab keys, and go, but as I stood in line for nearly 30 minutes, I not only realized, I was going to be late, but that Uhaul is a hustle game that makes you late, doesn't prepare you for you reservation, then treats you poorly when you point it out. If you want to use Uhaul, choose another location. I should also mention my online reservation was for $65 and I entered my billing info. When I got to the location, I was told if I used a debit card they would be a $35 surcharge. You read correctly, $35. Scam artistry on a whole new level. get people in the store and hike your price with no advance warning despite fully completing the check out process online The reviews here continue to paint a picture Corporate refuses to fix, most likely because it's their business practice to take advantage of people in what is most likely a vulnerable situation. read more

Had wiring done at UHaul on Rainier Ave in Renton. Took our new RV on a road trip. Coming down Snoqualmie Pass I learned my trailer had no brakes. Almost caused a massive accident. Modified trip so UHaul Pasco on Court Street could resolve problem. Mike, the technition, told me that the other UHaul had mangled the install. Done completely wrong. Blew 4 fuses on my Honda. It was arching sparks under the car. I left my Honda there and used a UHaul truck to take our trailer to Bend Oregon. Came back to Pasco to pick up car. I was told problem was fixed. I tested it before I left. Trailer brakes did not work. I told the manager it was not fixed. She told me I was wrong. She went out with her test kit to show me that I was wrong. She actually slammed the register shut and was quite harsh. She discovered I had no brakes with her test kit. Her attitude softened at that point. She opened the hatch to find that the back compartment of the Honda Pilot was torn apart and the tools were still in my car. I asked for the truck to take my trailer back to Renton. She refused as it was apparently UHaul's policy to send customers on the road with no brakes. We were forced to take another day off of work (my wife) and spent another day in Pasco while they tried to fix. The next day they fixed it; however, my trailer main fuse blows every time I plug in to the Honda. I was told It is my brand new trailer that is broken and not their install issue. We left and pulled over in Vernita WA rest stop. I discovered that my left tail light assembly was missing. I have a video of the tail light when I dropped off the car. It was missing when we left or it fell off shortly after leaving because it was put back on improperly. I sent pictures to UHaul an hour after we left. I was told it was not their problem. I have spent two days attempting to get a hold of management at corporate level. I've spent an hour on hold and have talked to no one. Moral of this story, avoid UHaul at all costs. read more

I've rented from this location before with no issues. Today I came in to rent and was near completing the transaction when the manager became rude for no reason. I said that I'd rather just take the trailer off and cancel and he said "yeah let's do that". I removed the trailer, saying I've never been treated so rudely and that there was no reason for the treatment. We continued to argue, insults going back and forth when he challenged me to a fight by saying "I get off at five you can come back then". I've been here a few times now as I usually rent from this location when I move but the last time we came the store didn't seem very prepared. I came before opening and there was one other person waiting outside. Promptly at 9 the first worker came and opened up. She was really nice and seemed to be the only punctual one working there. A few minutes later a couple of other workers started trickling in.. The employee who had been there to open kept calling for one of the guys to come help as there was 4 or 5 of us waiting at this point but he kept saying something about a return that wasn't there. He came to help us and for at least 10-15 minutes couldn't find our reservation, then found it but couldn't click on it or something. Then we thought the computer froze. Him and another guy kept asking the girl questions (I'm assuming she's most senior there). Eventually when the girl came over to help we figured out that my reservation was at the other location. So that's our fault but if she figured that out in 2 seconds he surely could have too and not taken 10-15 minutes staring at screen. It was just very frustrating and I'm sure everyone else waiting wasn't having it. Two stars for that awesome girl who seems to work the hardest! The store isn't as organized as the Renton Highlands location but they have more workers here. There are a few parking stalls in the front but not many so don't plan to leave your car there.f read more

Short Summary. Better find another place for your hitch install. Bad customer service and incompetent. Failed to notify me part not ready, lost my exhaust pipe hanger in the install and cannot follow the wiring instructions. First when I scheduled the hitch install and went there, only to know my parts is not ready and that the General Manager is not their and GM will call me back tomorrow to reschedule. Waste 1 hour both ways + fuels. Someone could have notified me the day before. And then no one called me back. I called them twice and each time they told me GM will call me tomorrow to reschedule. Not happening. So I end up call uhual help line and the corp person found out due to system glitch the parts was never shipped out. So I asked to reschedule to another place for install as I already lost faith in Uhual renton storage. Unfornately the part can only be ship to same place and I need to call another department to reschedule. I tried twice and never succeed reaching the other department so I give up. I should have keep trying. The day before the second scheduled appointment I called them and confirmed the parts are ready and I am good to go. I appreciate the person who checked it for me. Finally on the day of hitch installation. I was told it should take about 1 hr and 30 minutes. However it took more than 3 hours. The reason was there was some issue with the wiring part. The tech is nice to let me know the issue and he went to another store to find a replacement part. But the replacement part is also not working so the tech suspect it is some issue with my van. And he gave the wiring instruction to me and asked me to go to the dealer to check. The moment I drive out of the UHual storage of renton I noticed some funny noises. Turned out I was driving with a exhaust pipe hanging around and touching the ground from time to time for 50 miles (went to another place before reaching home). After coming back at home, I found one of my exhaust pipe hanger is missing and another in the middle is not attched, and that's where the noise is coming from. I have no evidence that this is caused by hitch installation. Maybe the tech took them off to install the hitch and forget to put them back, maybe because he is busy with the wiring issue. I'll just say, what a coincidence this happened right after the hitch installation. Also the wiring issue? the instruction clearly said "install two 7.5 amps fuse into position #2 & #11", while those two fuses are actually installed to position #10 & #11. Anyway I appreciate the tech's effort in getting another wiring part from another store and his kindness to gave the wiring instruction sheet to me. read more

U-Haul needs to get their corporate ass in gear. Hubby picked up a truck and trailer in Brownsville, Kitsap County, WA, in order to drive his EV over to Renton to be repaired. The contract he signed stated that he was to drop the truck and trailer off in "Renton, WA." He did that. A guy working there said it looked just fine, and just to go ahead and leave it at the location, 405 S. 7th Street, Renton, WA. Hubby drives back to Bremerton, to find out that he'd dropped it off at the wrong location in Renton. Apparently, if one doesn't call the tiny-print 1-800 number to find out WHICH location in "Renton, WA", one gets to pay over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS for a manager to pick up the vehicle at one location in Renton, WA, and drive it over to a different location in Renton, WA. Not that the "required" location is printed on the contract. No, they have to make things difficult, including another 3 hours on the road, by sending a "recommended" location to an email address, and not telling him that they're doing so, nor stating that is it required, rather than just a recommendation. Oh, and don't let me leave out that the guy who accepted the vehicle doesn't actually work for U-Haul, but presented himself as doing so, accepting responsibility for the vehicle. Now, when I pointed out that what we have would stand up in court, the woman to whom I was speaking stated "If you're going to start threatening me with legal action, I'm going to hang up. Have a nice day." I did not threaten her or U-Haul with legal action. I pointed out that since what we have would stand up in court, she ought to consider not charging us over two thousand dollars for their mistake, and maybe they could come up with a clearer way of explaining things to their customers, rather than engaging in shady business practices. But, no, she hung up on me. Ain't that just fantastic customer service! /sarcasm. You know who I don't blame for any of this? Stan. The guy who called up to tell Hubby to fix the error. THEIR error. The WORST. We had a "guaranteed" reservation for a truck and they called us two days before and said the people before refused to bring it back, so it would be a 1pm pick up instead of 8am. Annoying, but whatever. Then, at 9pm the night before, they called me and said the truck "was down for maintenance" and they had nothing for me unless I went to EASTERN WASHINGTON to pick it up. I got a new hitch installed on my 2015 BMW x5 by Joseph and Sean at Uhaul Renton. Not only was their pricing half the price of BMW and others, but their service can't be matched. I was really worried about cutting into the bumper but honestly, you can't even see the slot created (which is underneath) to allow the receiver to come through the bottom of the bumper. Take a look at the photo. On top of that Joseph was such an artist, and was so careful, that he literally shaved the slot for it so that it was super neat and made it look like it was factory fitted. He got an attitude with me when I asked him, "where is your mask?". I watched this guy interact with at least 3 other customers while still not wearing a mask. Then, when I went inside to tell a manager about this behavior the employee overheard me complaining and immediately became aggressive and started to yell at me. He called me a "Karen" for wanting him to wear a mask and called me "entitled". I'll say this. Everyone is entitled to their health and to not risk getting COVID-19. That employee, however, is not entitled to endanger others and threaten a customer. Do not rent a truck from here. read more

This place is SHADY. Rented a trailer on 10/1. We only needed it for a couple of hours and were told we could return it after hours. They even provided us with a link to mobile check in, so that we won't be liable for it if it got stolen from their lot or something. 5 days later we were charged over $100. My boyfriend called and he was told we were charged for TWO DAYS. That they needed to "investigate" and possibly a refund within 72 hours. I called them since I made the reservation and the lady who answered the phone was RUDE. Rude AF. She was snarky af. She kept saying she couldn't tell me anything even though I was the one that made the reservation and that she can only tell my bf why he was double charged. I got him on the phone and she put us on hold. Go figure. She got back and said she could refund the other half but pretty much told us we weren't supposed drop it off after hours because of a tragedy that once happened to another family. She said she wasn't supposed to be doing this but as a favor she will be refunding the other day???? Sorry but your employees provided us with a link to drop it off after hours why would we get penalized for dropping it off after hours??? Well it looks like I'm not the only one who's thinks this place is awful. Seems like everyone is giving them one star. The girl working the front desk was awful. She was rude the whole time. The one up in the highlands is just as bad. I was telling her how they over charged me by $100 and she just kept coming up with different reasons why it was my fault. Then she told me to park my car way up on the hill by dome apartments and then walk back down and get the truck. Then she gave me the key without even telling me where the truck was. Then she just pointed out to the 6 trucks that were parked together and said its out there the number is on the key. So I set out to find the truck myself and do my own walk through. Then when I got back, after all the crap she gave me about being over charged was my fault, she tried to change me $60 and when I said thats not right she said oh wait a minute, yeah you only owe $37. I rented a truck here. Pros: It was available on time. It was clean. The guys working there were friendly and helpful. Cons: The 24' moving van was in mechanically poor shape. It was a GMC with 160,000 hard miles on it. The brakes squealed loudly. The suspension was shot - take a small speed bump slowly and it would rock back and forth a few times before settling in. It was hard to start at times and once I thought I'd be stuck but it finally caught on the 4th try. If these guys had higher quality vehicles I'd have no beef with them. But I was rented a junker. read more

I wont rent from them again. All calls route to a national call center with no way to talk to someone local about a local problem. Instead the call center is only allowed to talk to the local store on the phone. Very frustrating trying to resolve an issue when you can't talk to someone with the ability to help. While the call center seems to want to help, the very fact that they are not local and can't go and check something essentially limits what they can do. In my case, I was waiting for my trailer to show as returned (after hours drop off), and of course the call center has no idea, and the only ones who would are the local staff. I feel compelled to vocalize this here, as in general large companies like this do not listen to internal feedback, and nothing else changes unless enough people speak out publicly against these "customer service" processes. read more

I've had pods dropped off here and rented a truck from them (2 separate occasions) and they are pretty awesome at customer service. When I had pods shipped from Denver, they were very awesome about pulling them out of storage (the pods are locked up at day/night in a storage building) any time I wanted them, and once when I missed the time, were totally cool that they had to pull them out and put them back in twice in a day. No arguments, they just did it. It was very awesome of them. I rented a truck this weekend, and we were in a hurry when we dropped it off, and forgot to fill it up. There was a $40 fuel charge for the gas, and the guy waved it, saying it was close enough. That was just so unexpected and wonderful and awesome that it made my day. I won't forget something like that. I live all the way up in Seattle, but my storage is down by here, but seriously, pretty sure in the future if I need to rent a truck again, it will be from this Uhaul. They are very helpful and work with you to make sure you have a pleasant experience. If you are in Renton, rent from here for Uhaul. It will be a good experience! read more

My word. I've rented from UHaul several times and always had a fine experience. This time was just a disaster from the get go. First, I reserved the truck 3 weeks in advance. The day before I was to pick up the truck, I got a confirmation text from UHaul with a completely different pickup location. I understand they have the right to change the location based on availability, but it would be nice to have more advance notice than that. When we get to this location, we are the 14th customer in line. There are 2 people working. These gals were working so hard to keep up, but were just overwhelmed. We waited for about 45 minutes to get our truck and when we left, there were still about 16 people in line. Next, the drop off location they had on file was completely wrong as well. Easily corrected by the employee, but still, just another error on their end. Finally, the amount for the reservation changed. They advertise $39 daily rentals, but it ended up costing $120 because we were dropping off at a different location. Had that been explained to me, I would have just drove the 15 miles to drop it off at the same location of pickup and just paid the mileage fee. Overall, a horrible experience. The only reason I gave them 2 stars, instead of 1, was because I feel sorry for the poor employees who are clearly overworked. read more

We hired TopBox Movers through U-Haul and Moving Help. While they shouldn't be promoting this company, this is not a review of those companies but rather TopBox Movers who we hired in 2018: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We used TopBox Movers, Renton WA to move us and they damaged many things including our dining room table. We were told they had insurance and would take care of it. We only asked for compensation for the table. 5 MONTHS LATER: NO COMPENSATION! OWNER DOESN'T RETURN OUR EMAILS OR CALLS. After many attempts to contact the owner, it was apparent that the owner was a flake and would not pay for the damaged table. They used the table to stack boxes on - with no protection and slid the boxes from one side of the table to the other (even after being warned not to do it). They then wedged other items around and on it. The approximately 2 hour trip finished the table and they damaged many other things including a very expensive hutch. They were late every day, and not just minutes or an hour, often a half a day late! One time they showed up in the evening. Another time, only one person showed up. In the end, we had to hire another company to finish the job. We paid them in good faith and expected the owner to honor his promise to pay for the damaged table...we forgave everything else that we could have claimed. Their unreliability cost us a lot; truck rental, damaged goods, hiring another team, even a trip to the hospital for my husband who was seriously injured trying to move things himself. HE'S 70! Note: Think ahead folks, towards month end & first week of the month they will be busy. Weekends, I'm sure they will be busy. EDIT: I MUST PARTIALLY DIGRESS. The manager of this location has tried her best to help our situation, the following review is mostly for Uhaul in general and some other staff in the area. Unfortunately, I have to echo a lot of complaints already on Yelp. This review isn't only for this location, but Uhaul's Ubox service in general. First things first: we arrived for our 7am appointment to get our two Uboxes. Where were the two boxes? Who knows? The manager called around and there "might be two in Kent." Mind you, we are on a tight schedule to pack in order to sell our home and move across the country. Put off, we drove down to Kent, where we were (not) greeted by an employee who knew nothing about our situation or which Uboxes to give us. 1 hour later, two (half broken) boxes were put onto a trailer and we towed them back to our house. Fast forward a few days when we return the Uboxes. The locking mechanisms on the 2nd box broke after 1.5 miles of driving. We were, again, greeted by employees who were completely incompetent saying they didnt know how to fix the problem (as I'm holding the ubox door closed with my hands). "We need a new lock" says my wife. "So you want to buy and open one of ours?" said an employee. That was the last straw. I used Uhauls drill to re-configure the locks into a temporary fix. This is after waiting over an hour for a manager to come help us (who was actually not AT the location). Today our (broken) Uboxes are supposed to ship from Seattle to Chicago. We are praying that someone did indeed fix the second box and all of our contents will make it to their destination. Our fingers are crossed but hopes are not high. Avoid this location, and Ubox in general. The worst customer experience my wife and I have ever encountered. read more

I have to agree with the other comments about the customer service. We went to rent a pickup truck and they laughed that we didn't have a reservation..even though we saw three available in the lot. After they decided they had a truck, charged us for it, then stated that even though they charged us for the 24 hr period, they would need it back by close of business that day. The whole situation was exacerbated by how rude they were to other customers, their employee, and ourselves. Over all it just seemed like they were kind of struggling at life and trying to make themselves feel better by putting others below themselves. The workers here have been extremely rude on several occasions. This last time they were so ridiculous I will never go back there even though its extremely conveniently located. They were also super rude to their runner boy who was literally running to get them things. Vote with your dollars. Don't support rude businesses. read more

Waiting 30 minutes for a truck we reserved. Only two people on staff for a Sunday. People move on weekends. No hustle in either of the employees. The line was 5 people deep the whole time. read more
