    I arrived at 7:40 AM for my 8:00 AM reservation. The staff asked for an alternate contact and attempted to make a call. I explained that my alternate contact might not be available to answer at the moment. The staff then hinted at using the online reservation system or app and asked if I had another alternate contact. What is the point of being told to use the online system or app when I am physically present on-site? Am I expected to provide multiple alternate contacts just in case no one answers? What difference does it make whether I provide an alternate contact online or in person if they're just going to keep calling until someone picks up? I have rented cars from many companies before, but this is the only one that requires an alternate contact and makes the customer wait while they try to reach them. To make matters worse, the staff had a grumpy attitude, and the manager wasn't particularly engaging either. I ended up canceling my reservation because I didn't want to waste any more of my time. Skip this business location if you don't want to waste yours.

    The woman at the counter was rude to me (maybe just extremely curt but definitely not friendly), I didn't get the blankets I paid for, the gas tank was empty when I got the car, the tire pressure sensor was broken and said one of my tires had a 22 PSI vs the other 3 who had 75 but it was impossible to fill up when I tried. Absolutely bonkers.

    U haul is a rip off, bait and switch prices that are off the chart. Customer service is a joke at best. Go anywhere but UHaul

    Very slow. Andrea at the desk tells people at the back of the line to "start in the app" but did not explain what that means.

    Do not rent from U-Haul on Bryant St. in SF. They will find a way to add on unwarranted charges. Total disappointment.

    Another great experience renting a van today at this Uhaul location…read more They are helpful, polite, HONEST and fair here. They will not up charge you or try to make you pay for dings and scratches that happened before your rental. They will help you as quickly as possible and won't make you wait while they call their sister to complain about their divorce, etc. AVOID the Bryant St location at all costs ((well unless you want to spend an hour witnessing reality TV show drama, get lied to a bunch, and pay a bunch of money.) One thing I learned to be aware of though, is that at every Uhaul location when you reserve (and you definitely should) tell them you need it for the day, otherwise they will only reserve it for you for 4 hours...even though you are paying the daily rate. So get it for 24 hours and return it early just in case it ends up taking you five hours to haul all of that crap to the dump.

When I picked up the vehicle, I noticed the…read moretank was only 13/16 full, which I noted in the notes and upload pictures as proof during the initial inspection process through U-Haul. Before I returned the vehicle, I filled the tank to 14/16 full, which was more than what the car had when I got it earlier that morning. I mentioned this to the store clerk when I returned the vehicle to make sure that I wouldn't be charged for gas. Later that night I was emailed the receipt, and I noticed that I was charged a liter of gas at their rate of $6.26. Not only that, but they charged me for 49 miles of driving, when I calculated the entire route to be 37 miles, at $.89/mile, they charged e for 49 miles driven, which is a overcharge of 12 miles for $10.68 for miles I never drove and $6.25 for gas that I didn't use, for a grand total of $16.93 for a $135.34 rental (14.3% overcharge!!) I then went on Yelp and Google and saw a plethora of similar complaints for dishonest and unethical business practices. I came to this place for it's convenient location, but I won't be returning. Avoid it like the plague. Update: I filed a complaint with U-Haul corporate, and the next morning I received a refund for the fuel charge. No refund for extras miles put on the vehicle. People: report to corporate if your feel you've been charged extra, and always takes lots of photos as evidence!

Still zero accountability- I ended up cancelling the entire thing and ordering from a different company.

From today forward he shall by known as Saint Vince. Sure you have choices when renting a truck. While in town moves don't require you think about the equipment, cross country you do need to. Is the truck gas or diesel? Better mileage with diesel, means a cheaper cost. Does the truck have a drivers air seat? This makes a difference when driving 16 hours a day. What is the total cubic size of the truck. What tightly fits in a U-Haul 26 foot, can easly fit in a 22 foot Penske. Finally, take a look at what rental trucks are sitting on the side of the road waiting for service. What you'll notice is they are all Uhauls. Enjoy your move. Take it slow and steady. Recently, I received a call from an unknown number claiming I owed Penske $495 for a past rental. I couldn't verify the number, couldn't call it back, and customer service told me to go into a Penske location to confirm whether the call was legitimate. So I went in to do exactly that. When I arrived, I spoke with a representative named Skyler. He looked up my name and confirmed: I did NOT owe Penske anything I was NOT on a do-not-rent list There was no past-due balance of any kind Instead of helping me understand who was calling me, checking for a possible security breach, or treating my concern seriously, Skyler chose to label me as the problem. He issued a BOLO ("be on the lookout") alert about me through Penske's district management messaging system -- simply because I asked if the call was legitimate. He even went as far as canceling my reservation and blocking me from renting, despite acknowledging that I owed nothing. As a Black man, this experience left me feeling profiled, disrespected, and discriminated against. I walked in asking for help and clarity -- instead, I was treated like a threat. No investigation. No security check. No customer support. Just discrimination and an attempt to deny me service. I'm sharing this because experiences like this happen far too often, and silence protects the wrong people.     Rented a van. Cons and pros. Cons: The fuel level is below…read morethe E, like way way below the E. I heard that the gas gets siphoned since the place is rather isolated at night and the vehicles do not have locking fuel doors. The form said it had 1/4 tank, but way below the E is not a quarter tank. Needed to fuel up and it took 4 gallons just to get to the E, then another 10 gallons to make sure I don't get stuck on the Bay Bridge. The tires were low on air, in fact dangerously low and it showed on the info panel. Showed 55psi and it should be 80psi. Took care of the air when I got gas. Of course, this all took a half an hour to resolve these issues but done nevertheless. The interior could use a good vacuuming. But that's how it came, and that's how it's going back. Pros: Rented this on a Tuesday so there is no issue in securing a van. There were about 9 sitting in the parking lot. The app is easy but this also takes some time to take photos and answer all the questions, confirm a contact, and wait for authorization. I did not see or interact with a human at all: picking up and dropping off. In fact, there was nobody there in the morning, and in the afternoon the rear door was open and nobody was in. I dropped my key in the little slot and saw it drop to the floor on the other side. Renting at this location is closer to where I live rather than the one on Bayshore. At least you don't get dozens of laborers chasing you down for work. It's a nicer location in a residential area. Bottom line: my only complaint is getting the vehicle with a minus E tank. I never knew the gauge could go that low and indicates that fuel was siphoned out of the tank. So expect to get a vehicle with NO GAS, take pictures of it all and try to return it with NO GAS . . . which is almost impossible to do. So for tonight, I'm sure the person siphoning out the gas will get a good 1/4+ tank for their efforts.
