I dropped by to fill a propane tank and Jerome was helping me and also happened to be the hitch installer and I need a hitch so I figured I'd get a quote. While doing that another employee offered my 7 year old son a cardboard U-Haul piggybank and he was super excited. On my way out I saw what was clearly a manager looking over a brand new (2 day old) U-Haul Chevy Silverado that the first renter had gotten in an accident with (they were not pleased ha). I stopped and chatted about it for a min with him and Jerome and as I was about to leave he offered to build the piggybank for my son. He was very kind and chatted it up with my kid and then he pulled out his wallet and stuck a $5 bill in the piggybank. So unnecessary and so kind! Good people exist and I know that man made my sons day, he was so excited to tell everyone at summer camp! I'm sure not many people read or care about reviews for a U-Haul (you know what they do and you're pretty much only leaving a review if you are un happy) but they now have two customers for life. It's just so refreshing to run into truly nice people and I'm so thankful that those people went above and beyond to bring joy to my son. Thank you! Unrelated but had to share... while they were filling my tank their was a fight between a bald eagle and a bunch of crows directly above us... awesome obviously. I am so happy I didn't find what I needed for packing supplies at Home Depot because it led me to this incredible store! The front desk guy (Wyatt, I think) and his manager were the most courteous and kind people I've engaged with in a long time. They helped me save money choosing the right supplies, the right van, the right location drop off and even loved on my dog. All the workers I interacted with from that store were so approachable and genuine. In an age where service is automated and real interaction is unheard of, I am delighted to say that U-Haul of West Seattle off 35th is doing the opposite. I need to give a shout out to the awesome team at West Seattle U-Haul! We reserved a van in advance, but shortly before we went to pick it up, we were sent an automatic message that our pick up location changed to the 1st Ave location in SODO due to a late van return. That unfortunately was not going to work for our needs, and after a slight panic over what to do, I called the folks here at the West Seattle location to ask if there was an option to keep our existing reservation for West Seattle, but perhaps move us up to the next size vehicle, if possible, to avoid the extra distance and time, taking us way off course from our needs here in West Seattle. They and the U-Haul scheduling team were able to quickly update our reservation and get us in a different vehicle just in time, per our original reservation. I am so grateful for them working with us, understanding our needs, and providing a viable solution. With their help, our little local move was super successful! I recently reserved a ubox and pickup truck and it was a very problematic experience. First there's only 1 forklift operator at the location who doesn't start work until 12pm. I knew to call in advance because I knew there would be some issue based on the person I spoke with on the phone. I flew in from out of state as I'm transporting my ubox out of state. I had a mover scheduled to help me move things out of Public Storage down the street (5 mins away) at 12:30pm. I asked Uhaul workers if the ubox could be attached to the pickup truck and ready to go by 12:30pm. I was told yes. They didn't know what they were doing so it ended up taking an hour making me lose time with my mover. So when I finally got to my mover, I put him behind schedule and he had to eventually leave , which meant I had to move things by myself. This was a terrible experience because not only did it rain the whole time but I had to move things alone outside of the Public storage and there were men approaching me and saying things making me feel unsafe. At this point I'm trying to move as fast as I can but it's 7:30pm. Uhaul closes at 8pm. I call and tell them I'm trying to return the box same day before they close. The workers erroneously told me I had the box and truck for another day and could return it next day. Had I listened to that wrong info I would've been charged extra! I return the ubox before closing. A worker tells me the forklift worker is gone for the day. So I tell her, I can't drive/park the ubox to where I was staying so what could I do?????? I just wait to think things through for about 30mins. Meanwhile, the forklift worker (who left for the day) is walking out the door. The forklift worker was there the entire time and could've helped with the truck and ubox but just didn't want to help. At this point, the entire experience feels like a joke. The forklift worker tells me to just leave the truck and ubox in the parking lot and hope it doesn't get broken into. SMFH. I fly back home. I pay the $2300 fees associated with the shipping. I pay exactly what I owe. I notice another charge on my card for nearly $100. I call Uhaul once, wait time 30mins. The rep says they didn't get my full payment so they took the rest without authorization but said now I'm paid in full. I had already paid in full! An earlier payment I had made, miraculously was not applied or seen on their end! So I call Uhaul back, wait time 30mins. Horrible customer service agent was so unhelpful and just so incompetent I almost gave up trying to get my refund. I call back a third time, wait time 30mins. Over 1.5hrs of my day gone dealing with this BS. The rep files a dispute. I got an email saying they made a mistake and my refund is being processed. The only thing that makes me feel better about this ridiculous situation is knowing I'll never have to encounter the workers at Uhaul in West Seattle again and the fact I'll never in life do business nor recommend Uhaul to anyone ever. UPDATE: When I went to pickup my Ubox they completely botched the entire reservation. They claimed to have no record of the scheduled date for pickup!!! They made the reservation!!! Then to add insult to injury, they had no vehicles available for me to transport the Ubox, even though the person I spoke to claimed to have updated my account to include a 10 inch van instead of a pickup. The Ubox can't be on a pickup at this location!?!?!?! Now they're saying I have to go to some other random location to get a 10 inch van and come back so they can attach the Ubox. I had movers scheduled and ready for me to meet w/the Ubox and now I had to cancel on them because of the complete failure to deliver service by Uhaul. Just a complete nightmare. I should've went with PODs or any other company. Do not do business with these unprofessionals!!!! read more

This is literally the worst U-Haul location I've ever experienced! I live in west Seattle and I just can't use this location anymore. Firstly I have now tried to refill my propane tank at this location 5 times and every single time I come in the people sitting at their desks tell me they just ran out of propane but there will be propane in the morning... I work in the morning so I don't have time to come in at that time... I highly doubt that every single day they are running out of propane right before I come in! Secondly, this location never ever answers the phone! You will never get through to them regardless of what time of day or day of the month it is. Thirdly, the evening staff does not want to help customers... everything is a chore to them. This location lacks management big time! The owner needs to figure out why this location is so broken. You're better off going to one of the locations in south Seattle, trust me! read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I came here to have my tow package disconnected and return the equipment. We unfortunately had to deal with JOSEPH PASCHKE. Joseph was extremely rude, walked away several times as we were talking to him, and immediately refused to unhook the towing package. We ended up having to call the 800 number for UHaul who had to try calling the actual location multiple times, b/c they should be handling the tow disconnect. After sitting there for about 10 minutes, Joseph said "well if you're not going to unhook it, then I guess I have to". He messed around and unhooked some straps and walked away. After sitting there for a few minutes we finally asked, "Is it unhooked and are we good to drive it off?" He said, ya, and kept walking around doing other stuff. Well come to find out, when we tried driving it off the ramp, the car was still hooked with chains! Joseph didn't even fully unhook it, and we potentially could've damaged our car had we not noticed. All in all, I am VERY disappointed and angry in the service we received. It was rude, unprofessional, and unwarranted. read more

DO NOT USE FOR TRAILER WIRING. After two attempts, they failed to do the job correctly. FIRE HAZARD Read on if you want details..... I initially had trailer lights installed on my vehicle. A couple months after installation, I took my vehicle to the dealership for a routine oil change and the tech showed me pictures of the wiring done by this U-Haul location. ****Whoever routed the wiring thought it was a good idea to run it along my exhaust. **** It does not take a genius to know the exhaust gets hot, too hot to touch. There were parts of the wiring that melted along the exhaust. I immediately went back to U-haul and they ATTEMPTED to fix it.The manager explained the techs were not properly trained..cmon who here knows exhausts get hot and rubber melts. I allowed them to reroute the wiring away from my exhaust. I am writing this review because I thought i'd let them fix the problem hoping everything would be fine. After another month, as I was walking up to my car I noticed a cable hanging low beneath the vehicle. Surprise surprise.. it's the wiring done by U-Haul. Once I got home, I crawled underneath the car to follow where it was being routed and they ran the wiring between the heat-shield and catalytic converter... another portion of your exhaust that also gets extremely hot .. which is why there is a heat-shield shielding it from the firewall.... (NOTE: THIS REVIEW ONLY CONCERNS THE PROPANE FILLING SERVICE) Not the best place to get propane. THE ROSES: Friendly staff. When it works, they have a button that you can press to call a staff member to come out, and they have mobile card readers so you can pay without waiting a half hour in line behind people who're renting trucks and such. THE THORNS: Staff needs better training. Was told my tank certification was expired. She didn't realize that while a re-certification is only 5 years, mine was made in 2010, and you have 12 years from initial manufacture to do a re-cert. By the time I got home and did my research, they were closed, and I had to drive up to Wallingford to fill my tank. They also will not purge new tanks; you have to go somewhere else for that. THE VERDICT: OK if you know what you're doing, but there are better outfits with more savvy staff out there (I recommend Seattle Propane at the Chevron in Wallingford. They're a 24/7 operation). read more

How can the West Seattle location improve? Let me count the ways. I made a reservation for a hitch install AND a trailer rental for cross country travel and they only made the hitch install reservation (even after I confirmed with them - you made both reservations? Yes!). When I reconfirmed my coming reservation they said my hitch install was right on track. They had no idea I needed a trailer, too (strange, since they confirmed both reservations the first time I made it). When I came to get my hitch installed they didn't have a hitch. They had sold it between my reconfirmation and my install. They had to drive to another city to get an appropriate hitch. It took most of the day. I didn't have my car to use most of the day. When I wanted to get my trailer, too - sorry - they didn't have one at the West Seattle branch I had to go to another branch in Burien. I went to get the trailer. Anything I need to know about pulling a trailer? I've never done it before. They shrugged their shoulders and said good luck. The experience was awful. read more

U-Hauls in my experience are consistent in one thing - poor customer service*. I used to come here for propane refills. But lately even on a weekday, this can eat up half an hour of time. So now I just go a couple blocks south to the 7-11 where getting a tank exchange takes less than 5 minutes and their prices are better than Home Depot, Bartels, etc. *poor customer service is not due to the quality of the workers. It has to do with being chronically understaffed, renting equipment that's not available or in disrepair and so on. read more

DEFINITELY NOT reliable, I accidentally left my wallet/ purse in the uhaul I rented and went home and not even 30 minutes later I came back to ask if anyone found it in the truck that I locked before giving back they key, a manager and an employee claimed they had not found it and that someone must have stolen it in a truck that was LOCKED. 2 hours later someone tried depositing $300 from my cards that I had already locked, then the next day they tried buying $200 worth of shoes at finish line. My truck did not come with the dolly I ordered which caused a big inconvenience once I arrived at the move site. When I returned the truck that evening, the attendant took my name down and said her manager would call to issue me a refund (and very nonchalantly, no apology for missing equipment). I used this location to rent a Uhaul truck for my recent move. I was in a terrible mood due to zero sleep the night before and the general craziness and stress that accompanies moving. The gal that helped me sign in and get a truck had a great deal of patience with me. She was also dealing with a long line of people that decided to show up right after I did and she did so with kindness. There was a guy working with her that made a jerky comment but in all fairness, it was probably due to my demeanor. No issues with the truck we got. I ordered in advance a dolly, furniture dolly and furniture pads, and they were all loaded up in the truck for me. The parking here is confusing. The parking for your own car when you come to get your truck/van rental is next door to Uhaul, just west of it. After I parked my car in the lot, I was told about this then had to move my car. read more

this place is AWFUL. I received extremely poor service. DeAndre and Adrien are the most unprofessional "customer service" representatives I've ever encountered. Save your money and time and find another Uhaul. My hitch installation appointment was cancelled an hour before I was supposed to arrive, then I was rescheduled to come in the next day. I got to my rescheduled appointment on time to find they were already in the middle of working on another car and it would take at least 2 hours before mine was started. I then waited around for 5+ hours while DeAndre guaranteed me my car would be next in line to be serviced. Turns out they didn't even have the part required to complete the installation. No one called me or anything. I wasted over 5 hours. I finally came back got it installed today, it took over 3 hours and then some extra waiting around because the representative couldn't get his computer to work. I asked several times who was in charge and no one assumes responsibility for this establishment. Adrien was at least nice, but still unprofessional. DeAndre should find a different line of work because he is rude and especially unhelpful. read more

We had to rent at U-Haul twice this week. Both times, they called us the day before to inform us that the size of U-Haul wasn't available at the location we reserved it at and we had to drive 45 minutes one way just to get it at a different location. This was very stressful on top of trying to move, to have to drive almost 2 hours round trip just to pick up the U-Haul. Why would they have you reserve it at a certain location if it isn't going to be available? THIS HAPPENED 2 TIMES TO US IN 1 WEEK!!! So frustrating!!!!! Absolutely terrible trucks and service. Truck broke down in the middle of sodo with a violently rattling transmission. They were unable to find a tech after an hour so they told us to just drive it and that the manager would call us back. Never received a call. Went to drop off the truck and the store was completely empty. Seriously, completely empty - waited 15 minutes with the intercom buzzing before anyone noticed. This place is HORRIBLE. Document everything. Keep the names and employee numbers of the people you talk to. Get everything promised in writing. I rented a truck after hours with the mobile app and they forgot to put the dollies in. I had to drive back and pick up the dollies the next month and was told I would be reimbursed mileage. Not only did that not happen. We returned the truck 20 mins from the time we said (due to not getting adequate time from having to come back) and they DOUBLED EVERY CHARGE ON OUR BILL! Oh, as if moving isn't bad enough. SO bad. I've rented with UHaul before and been a customer millions of places and this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had! I'm thinking it's maybe just this particular branch which is why I am writing this. I walked in midmorning on a Saturday, crossing paths with the ONE employee staffing the place; while he passed me he spit on the ground. Classy! Surly, miserable and never making eye contact, he checked me in, said he'd "go get my truck ready", and 10 minutes later he came back smelling of smoke, the line of already sighing customers piling up behind me. I had to step out of line to inspect the truck for damages* and then had to get back in line and wait for 15 more minutes to get my receipt. Great system. *There were lots of damages. And the passenger side mirror eventually came loose so I couldn't see my blind spot on the right side, terrifying! The 14' truck had 178,000 miles on it and got 6 (six!!) miles to the gallon. Oy. I hope I don't have to move again soon. And when I do, who else can I use? read more

I order a hitch for my car. Scheduled the installation about 1 month later. Brought my car in and they had it for the entire day... called back at the end of the day to see when it would be done and they told me the part was damaged and they couldn't install it... they said they knew this in the morning, but no one called to tell me. They ordered a new part and I rescheduled the install 3 weeks later.... Day before they call to tell me they cant do it and I need to reschedule. This happens two more times... on the latest reschedule they call the night before to tell me that they can do it, but I need to be there at 7 AM. I rearrange my family's day to make this work... show up at 7 and the guy tells me he cant do it until 11 (which wont work for me logistically). I am not happy at this point... and the guy behind the counter starts saying that I am "disrespecting him" because Im mad. Got my money back. This place is a totally clown show read more

My husband & I rented a truck for transport of a refrigerator. When speaking with customer service we were treated poorly by an inconvenienced cranky female whom didn't want to be bothered. After asking questions,the information was given in a hurried, irritable manner. The day of the rental the customer service employee threw the agreement at my husband and to boot forgot to put the dolly in the truck. Upon return of the truck it took a while to locate the employee whom was stuffing his face with food. I've had poor customer service & bad experience with this location. read more

They were installing a trailer hitch on my suv and the lady I scheduled with on the phone said it would take 30 minutes. When I arrived i asked Mr. Personality behind the counter and he said 30 minutes is the estimated time, but figure on an hour. In reality they took just under 2 hours!!! The only positive of this experience was one employee, i wish i new his name, after an hour and a half of watching me pace around the store (they have no waiting area of any kind) asked if I wanted a chair... I rented a truck November 2. First reserved online and used their online check in. Fast and painless. The woman who helped me at the counter was very friendly. Upon returning the truck later, also prompt and polite, and these were two different employees. I did not encounter rudeness. Thinking people are just stressed when moving and that colors our perceptions. Granted, I moved on a Monday and not the last weekend of a month-- that's when most people move. Something to consider. We're all doing the best we can with what we've got. Usually. I've noted every uhaul site I've checked has bad reviews. Do the math. ;-) read more

Do what I should have done: double check the odometer! Record it. Better yet, photograph it. I noted the trip meter to myself and found I went almost exactly 10 miles round-trip, back to my house, where I swept out the truck before getting gas at the nearest station to the U-haul. I figure I travelled a total of 12 miles at most, by my return to the U-haul lot. I had also noted, when trying to set the trip meter to zero, that one setting of the digital odometer read "11.5 MPG Average". When I filled up the tank, it took .997 gallons. I noted to myself that everything seemed harmonious! Not so. The reading the attendant came back with was 18 miles. When I mildly protested, she said that it had already gone through and the payment was done. When I checked my receipt, it read 20 miles! What?! I only paid about $5 more than I should have but that wasn't right. She was really nice while fleecing me, though. read more

I have used U-haul more then once Becuase when i was young, i thought they were my only option. and once, i worked for a moving company who had rented a truck from another company, but a bad employee with an axe to grind with my boss let it go....so we (me and the boss) had to go get a U-Haul. Well, it wouldn't start. because something was wrong with it. they had one left. it also wouldn't start. because it WAS OUT OF GAS. oh, BTW, it TOOK 30 minutes to even get the attention of the clerk, and then all that happened. the employee at the other place has since been fired, and my boss NEVER went back to U-haul. do yourself a favor, and tell any friends un aware of yelp! that U haul SUCKS. read more

So I have been using this business mostly to fill my propane tanks for many years. But this weekend's experience has made my mind to never use them for anything ever again. I showed up on Saturday 5/9/2020 at 7:50 AM to fill a propane tank that typically takes about 3 minutes. The employee who also said she was the manager had put up a sign saying no propane sales until 11 AM. I had called the location before leaving home - she did not answer the call so it had gone to the U-Haul national call center and they told me all was good to visit and get propane. When I asked her about this, she said they were very busy that morning and she decided not to sell propane until later. Keep in mind it is 7:50 AM and I am the only person anywhere in sight. No reason for her not to have helped me. I asked her will she be selling it tomorrow (Sunday) because I was not going to be able to come back after 11. She said yes come anytime after 9 AM and you will be good. I showed up on Sunday 5/10/2020 around 10:45 AM and this time the same employee had put up a sign that said no propane sales today. There was one customer there ahead of me so I waited until they were done and when I asked the employee about it, she said she was the manager, the only person there like yesterday and she had decided not to sell propane. I told her that you had said yesterday you would be selling it so that is why I returned - she was rude and totally could care less that I wasted my time driving there twice - once because had she answered the phone on Saturday I wouldn't have gone or if she would have told their national call center, and second when she told me she would be selling on Sunday but decided not to. Anyway, I will never go back to this location again. read more
