We are in the middle of a cross-state move from Tucson, AZ to Sherwood, OR and had an extremely disappointing and stressful experience with the U-Haul Sherwood location regarding our U-Box delivery. The day before delivery, Laurie from the Sherwood U-Haul location called my husband directly and verbally confirmed that our four U-Boxes would be delivered between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. That same time window was also confirmed in two identical automated text messages we received (which we still have). Despite all of this, the driver arrived at 8:30 AM while we were still at a hotel. The home does not yet have utilities or heat, and it has strict HOA rules regarding where and how long U-Boxes can be placed. We were not refusing delivery -- we simply asked why the driver was there four hours early and requested that she check with dispatch before placing the boxes. The driver told us she would call dispatch and get clarification. Instead, the next call we received was from Laurie, telling us that we had "canceled" the delivery (which we absolutely did not) and that we would now be charged an additional $99 to reschedule. We made it very clear that we never canceled -- we only questioned why the delivery was happening outside the confirmed window. We were then told that if we could drive from the hotel immediately, the driver could return, but we would still be charged. Later, this fee was reduced to $50 -- despite the fact that the error was entirely on U-Haul's side. To make matters worse, this situation is part of a much larger pattern. Throughout this move, we have encountered:    *   Multiple unexpected charges at different stages    *   Separate delivery fees for each U-Box    *   Conflicting information about insurance coverage once the boxes crossed state lines    *   Repeated billing under different descriptions What initially seemed like a cost-saving option has turned into a stressful, expensive ordeal. Between U-Boxes, trailers, delivery fees, and add-ons, we are now well over $5,000 -- and still responsible for unloading everything ourselves. At that point, we should have paid slightly more for a professional moving company and avoided all of this confusion and stress. This experience showed a serious lack of communication, accountability, and customer care at the Sherwood location. Being blamed -- and charged -- for an error that was clearly documented in writing is unacceptable. I would strongly caution anyone considering U-Box containers to read the fine print carefully and be prepared for surprise charges and shifting explanations. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this location or this service. read more

We had a u box from Wisconsin to Oregon with a guaranteed delivery to our new place in Oregon on the 11th. We called on the 10th to see if they could deliver a day early and Laurie said our new guaranteed delivery date would be the 15th and that she tried contacting us twice to notify us. We were not contacted at all and even confirmed they had the right number. What's the point of a guaranteed delivery date if it is not a guarantee. Not only was Laurie rude and dismissive but she flat out refused to give us her managers number to see if there was anything they could do. We would have had nothing in our new place for 5 days if we waited for the delivery. So we had to drive over an hour away and pay to rent a U-Haul truck and move all of our stuff two extra times. The staff at Gerhart where we rented the truck were actually understanding, nice, and competent. They realized that U-Haul messed up and gave us a discount on the truck. We have also contacted the corporate number because Laurie stated she would not refund any money even though every day the delivery is late you get refunded 50$. Luckily the corporate number had some people who had a brain and said they could help us out. We are still waiting on a call back or a refund though. I can only hope Laurie, this pathetic excuse of an employee gets reprimanded. Safe to say next time we will be choosing to go with PODS. read more

I had a great experience with this U-Haul. We needed to drop off a truck and storage very last minute and they were able to handle everything. I wish they had larger storage options available. (The biggest was a 10x10). That being said I really apricate the help and that things like the lock were included. The storage complex is climate controlled and indoor. I reserved a van for my most recent move online. After getting there, I couldn't locate the van the app gave me. After asking for help inside, they told me it was "around the back", but didn't mention it was in the service bay. Thinking nothing of it, I got the van and took off. HUGE mistake! For the next month or so, I would wake up to find things crawling on me. Getting upset, I could only trace it back to the van. I called customer service, only to be told I'd "be notified of a solution". Fast forward an additional month, and I heard nothing. When I called, I was told a voicemail was left. I have dealt with them over several years for many things: storage spaces, truck rentals, trailer rentals, supplies, etc. They have been very helpful in tracking down supplies that were hard to come by and out of stock and great on service for the truck rentals. the Manager always remembers my name. Yes, they are sometimes very slow and far too often there is no one in sight when you enter the retail store and there is often times an inordinate wait. They have gone out of their way to be helpful whenever any question arises. I went in with my 70 year old father who has a 2017 Hybrid Rav-4 and is looking to tow a small trailer across the county to Minnesota. He had reserved a 12x8 trailer (I believe that was the size) and despite the fact that the trailer WHILE EMPTY is over the weight capacity listed by Toyota, the lady who I assume was a manager, insisted that "plenty of people have gone above the recommendation and it's fine." She also was quick to mention that uHaul won't insure or take responsibility if there's a drivetrain error despite their recommendation to tow what would have easily been over double the capacity limit. Throughout the interaction, the manager thought it would be productive to say "I work for uHaul and not Toyota. I couldn't answer anything related to that." We finally were able to convince my elderly father that she was not looking out for his best interest and left. Overall, my experience was both horrifying and disheartening. Management here openly tells customers to disregard vehicle capacity limits with vague and unsubstantiated claims. They aggressively tried to convince my father that it will be fine and didn't miss a beat to immediately follow and say "But we won't help YOU if something happens." Her attitude was condescending. Her tone was that of an impatient child who felt that our inquiry was a waste of her time. Her goal was to make my father disregard the advice of his family and the clearly stated manufacturer limits. She made no effort to empathize or help solve the issue and shirked away from any responsibility with obvious and belittling statements. Don't rent or lease from here. You can't trust people who are self-proclaimed NOT experts who encourage you to put yourself in a precarious position and deny any liability. read more

I called Uhaul the 24th of July and asked the gentleman that answered for a quote. I told him I had a towing hitch for my 2023 jeep grand Cherokee that I needed to get installed. The gentleman told me it was going to be $100 per hour and it would take about 2 1/2 hours. I agreed set up an appointment, took my vehicle in on 26 July and it took them approximately an hour and a half to finish the installation. When I went to check out the woman told me it was gonna be $250. I asked why it was so much because it only took an hour and a half to install , she told me the guy had been working there for 25 years that installed it so he's a bit fast but they still need to charge me for the 2 1/2 hours I said no that's bad business because I was quoted $100 per hour. She then told me that she could talk to the manager and see if they could figure it out. She disappeared in the back for approximately 2 to 3 minutes and came back and said she could charge me 190 but she was gonna get in trouble already for that. my recommendation would be if you're going to get work done at this location ensure that you have the right price quoted to you when you arrive there so they can't try and charge you more than what you're supposed to actually be charged. We were out of heat and we drove there since they fill propane tanks. We called in advance and validated they did that. Then they said they wouldn't fill them because they aren't certified to fill. Really?!?! You have them on tap to fill and it was 19 degrees out and we don't have heat for the night and they wouldn't help us. They acted like a bunch of idiots and totally put us out. This U-haul is not worth the time or the money they will over charge. I rented a truck from them to make a move in Tualatin. I went over the costs and fees associated and was told exactly what it would cost. Magically after I dropped the truck off that night I was charged well over what I agreed to pay for an in town move that had "unlimited mileage" I think I drove the truck a total of 30 miles all together. Not only that but I filled the tank as instructed at the gas station right down the road. I got charged for a whole tank of gas. I basically got charged over twice what I was quoted PLUS the "cost" of an ENTIRE tank of gas (reference above where I only drove 30 miles AND filled the tank). The employees were rude condescending and inhospitable. They refused to listen to my concerns with the bill or look at the receipt for the fuel fill up. I tried to bring back the boxes that we didn't use and they refused to take them stating that they had been used. The boxes in question hadn't moved from my SUV since I placed them in there the day I bought them. There are plenty of other U-haul and other rental places in the area and they aren't out to steal your money. Buyer beware. , read more

After reserving a truck over 2 weeks in advance of our move date, I was called and told less than 24 hours before my pick up time that I would have to drive 40 minutes away to pick up a truck and that the gas would be my responsibility!! The staff were very friendly and informational and talked us through a couple different options as my husband and I had rented a pull behind trailer the prior day and we realized the next day we needed something bigger to move. We were able to return the trailer for just a daily rate and then pick up a truck, so helpful and cost savings. They also upgraded the truck from a 10' foot to a 15' foot for no extra charge. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS UHAUL!!!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. Ran by a complete crook. I ended up paying about $400 for a 3 day rental of a '15 truck and drove a total of only 14 miles. I was lied to by the Sherwood manager John, and he refuses to give me any break on this outrageous charge I received. Please read our email conversation below. This is in response to me calling customer service regarding the charge. You were in fact informed that the truck was to be returned to the renting location. It states in your contract that you agreed to return to the renting location. When you dropped the truck in Sherwood, you were also told then you needed to return it to the Tigard location, and you informed John McDonald, the General Manager of the Sherwood location, you would be back to pick up the truck and return it to Tigard. You chose to leave it at Sherwood. In a separate email I have resent your original contract. Under bullet point 5 (about halfway down the page), it states " I understand that this equipment must be returned to the same U-Haul location where it was rented. I understand that the minimum rental charge for equipment returned to a different location is twice the amount of the current One Way rate from this U-Haul location to the actual drop-off location. Larry Hall Regardless of this policy being typed somewhere in the paperwork, it should have also been verbally relayed to make sure the customer gets the best experience possible. Had my destination been 3 states away, I could understand not mentioning it. But in this instance, the likelihood of me mistakenly returning it to the location that's 2 minutes away from my new address that I supplied him with, is obviously much higher don't you think, Larry? Secondly, how does one expect someone to read words that aren't actually provided to them before being asked to electronically sign on the 3 inch pad U-haul stores are stocked with? I am 100% certain I was not handed anything before signing. Maybe if there was more than one employee per store at one time, things would run more smoothly. Third, I actually did not choose to return it at the Sherwood location, indefinitely. I only left it there because I was misled and straight up lied to by staff. I also don't believe I spoke with a store manager because this guy couldn't even tell me what the fee is to leave it at a different location and said I would have to ask someone in there as he lazily nodded towards the building. However, if this was the manager, I am dumbfounded at the lack of professionalism and knowledge this person possesses. I explained the situation I was in and how I was on my way to a court date in Hillsboro and didn't really have enough time to drop it off at Tigard before because this was an important case and I couldn't be late for it. I asked what the fee was and he gave off the vibe it wasn't much, said "I don't know off the top of my head but you can talk to him" and points to another man at the end of a line 4 people long. Being in a time crunch (this was roughly 915am and I had court at 10am), I showed my frustration and indecisive thoughts I was facing on what to do since I couldn't afford any extra fees right now. The man then offered to move the truck into a spot for me so I could come back in a few hours after I'm done, pick it back up and take it to the Tigard location to avoid said fee. I said wow you can really do that? He says "oh yeah no problem go get that taken care of and come back," grabbed the keys and started walking towards the van. I told him it was going to be a long court session and definitely take most of the day, but that I would be back before close for sure. I thanked him very much and went on my way. About 6 hours later as I was literally in the car returning from Hillsboro, I received an email with my U-Haul receipt. Based on the dated receipt, turns out HE DIDNT EVEN GIVE ME A HALF HOUR!!! This dude generated a completed contract at 945am saying I dropped it off at the wrong location and charges me this god awful price of $238?! Even if I had returned the van at a different location and accepted the fee, $238 is outrageous. The odometer shows I didn't even drive 15 freakin miles!!! You guys really can't give me a break? You just absolutely refuse to provide decent customer service and I'm just screwed on a total of THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SIX DOLLARS FOR ONE MOVE, 2 CITIES OVER? I have now called twice to both stores and customer service which all lead back to the answer that it's the manager's decision. Wow. I made my reservation despite reading the bad reviews because Its the closes U haul to my house. Big mistake, the morning of pick up I was told they didnt have the size truck I reserved, they said someplace else in Tigard did if I wanted to drive there. Thats a big NO!!!! Dont call me the morning of and send me someplace else what the hell!! so we went and picked up a smaller Uhaul at the Sherwood location, we ended up making two trips instead of one which cost me an extra $80 labor for 4 hours $15 gas for the extra trip Time with my wife and family on Sunday afternoon The manager on duty reduced the cost $25 on the extra milage which wouldnt have been there anyway had they the right size truck to begin with. Most people would go out of business if they ran there company so sloppy. Read all the other reviews and go someplace else to save yourself the headache. Terrible service. Outside of waiting nearly an hour (need to figure out staffing), they switched my trailer to an enclosed which I could've gotten earlier in the day... as it was BAIT & SWITCH! This company/location sucks! I had to come back at 6:30p to drop the original open trailer b/c the larger one needed two wheels swapped. I could've just taken the closed trailer to begin with. To cap it off, the guy helping to mold me I was late! Ballsy for lack of customer service and I had to wait 45min regardless. Absolutely horrible! I was completely shocked today by the truly insulting "service" my mother received today. My mother was very excited to get a hitch put onto her car today. She has been looking forward to the appointment and asked me to join her. Her appointment was set up by the owner/manager. He checked to see if the parts were available and set the appointment for Saturday (today) at 1pm. When we get there the men at the counter informed my mother that SHE is wrong for showing up for her appointment, telling her that SHE should have called to confirm HER appointment. He tells her that they do not have the parts, that he does installation and just got back from vacation. He tells her that he has already rescheduled her for 5 days later (with out her approval or even telling her prior to). He treated my mother as if she was stupid for even walking into the building. He told her it was her fault. This is shocking. My mother was so upset that she was shaking. She told him to forget it. She didn't want to come back. I don't blame her. I will NEVER step foot into Uhaul again. I'm not sure why this man thought he could treat my mother that way. He should be reprimanded and ashamed. Those who stood and watched are just as bad. This experience made me sick. If you are reading this, save yourself the wasted time, money and stress...go elsewhere! read more

I usually deal with another U-Haul installation, but this is closer to my home (and so is the motorcycle shop to which I delivered a bike for repair & maintenance). I have a factory-installed trailer hitch on my Toyota Tacoma, so that was not a problem. The young lady behind the counter was very helpful and pleasant. A young man was also present but I observe he seemed somewhat "burned out", so I was grateful to deal with a positive thinker. My entire task task was accomplished in less than three hours, and I returned the trailer without incident. Again, the young lady assisted me and concluded the transaction. Highly disappointed in this store. In the past I have went in and rented a trailer, no problem except slow service. In the past I have went there for propane refills for my grill. It has never been a problem, just slow service. Yesterday I went in to get propane. I pulled up the the filling station and hit the buzzer like the sign says. I waited 5 minutes, no one comes out, so I go into the store. THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE STORE FLOOR. Myself and two other people waited. Finally someone comes in and I ask for help with propane. He radios for someone to come help. The guy comes out. Has to go back into the store for the key. Tries to hook up my tank, doesn't know how so he goes in and asks how. He comes back out and can't refill the tank because it is his first week and has never been shown how to do it. Finally the other employee comes out to check in a vehicle so the guy helping me asks for his help. The guy shrugs his shoulders and says "I don't know" and walks away. At this point it has been 25 minutes, so I have the guy unhook my tank and I left. The store has the best price in town for propane but I wouldn't recommend coming in to get it. read more

These people are deceptive, incompetent and lie. Even when presented with the evidence, they lie to your face. I told Amber the day I was renting my unit that I would like a printed copy of my rental contract. Amber said, "I will send you an EMAILED copy of the contract to you today". I also opted to get EMAIL correspondence only. I never received the email contract via email or in the mail. I only received a welcome letter, no contract. I paid my bill three days late, but did so with a 15 dollar fee. I simply asked these deceivers, that I am ok with the 15 late fee, but never received a contract nor did Amber tell me on the phone that I would be getting a 15 dollar late fee. They argued with me for 3 calls stating they did send the contract via email, and sent me evidence that they sent it via mail. I did not receive the contract either way. Apparently it said that it was mailed and AMBER NEVER MAILED IT. The idea of a 15 dollar late fee did not matter to me. However, the fact that these two risked a longstanding customer by LYING and not doing their job, and then arguing with me about says ENOUGH. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE JOKESTERS. They will not admit fault when they outright lie to you. When these people say something, they cannot be trusted and they don't follow through with what they say. read more

Today, my family and I went into u-haul in Sherwood. We wanted to rent so that we could pick up bikes that we were planning to purchage, because we all have small cars and were unable to reach friends who could help us before the long weekend. We would have only rented for one hour and he would have made the sale of if we had rented it for day. We got into the car, he did not inspect it, there were several scrapes and the interior was dirty. Obviously we didn't want to be held responsible for this. On top of that, the milage he wrote on our contract was incorrect. When I went to discuss and request a change and an inspection, he told me that he would do me a favor and not let us rent the truck, because obviously we could not afford it if I needed to dispute the milage. When I told him that isn't what I wanted at all, I just wanted this to be fair, he told me to stop talking and get out of his business. NO ONE should be treated this way. He owns a small business, does he want to keep it? Does he care about customers? Clearly not. Don't give him ANY business. I'm sure others would be happy to give you a fair sale and be thankful for you coming in. read more
