Extra Space Storage - Self Storage Near Me - Tigard, Oregon

This is a review of Extra Space Storage at 11123 SW 68th Pkwy Tigard, Oregon. When I signed up for a 10x10 storage unit, I didn't hear them say that it was a promotional rate for four months (my fault for not asking about the future rent increases). They did tell me that IF the rent was raised, I could negotiate for a lower rate. Alas, when the four months expired, the rent went from 155 to 255 per month (which included modest insurance). They were willing to drop it to 225 (including insurance), but that is still exorbitant! I will say the unit is clean and dry at Extra Space Storage--unlike the last place I rented that had rats and moisture. But I'm now moving to an equally clean storage facility in Tualatin, Oregon and the rent is 140 dollars per month (not including insurance). This mistake I made with Extra Space Storage cost me 500 dollars for movers to transfer my tools from one storage unit to another. Adios to Extra Space Storage! read more

Bait and switch warning to all! The only way to secure a rate is to pay 12 months in advance. Otherwise you're on a month to month with a 30 day notice of rate changes. I got a 10x10 for $209, after 2 payments they jacked my rate to $289; 27% increase in less than 90 days. Read the reviews, you'll see this is a standard practice for them. I'll be looking to get out of this place as soon as I can. On Google I gave them 1 star because I'm pissed. On Yelp, I have to give my honest feedback. They facility is very nice. Clean, good gate keeping, Tesla is nice to your face. I'll add a star for the facility cleanliness. But I'm still upset they bait and switched me. Looks like Kirk M is also pissed. This is one of the worst experiences I have had with a business in a very long time. Where to begin - some close friends of mine are in the process of moving from out of state. They rented 2 storage units at Extra Space Storage earlier in the year (summer of 2019). At the time all seemed well. The initial conversation was ok but a little bit personal as matters of religious practice and hobbies were discussed but at the time we really didn't think anything of it. About 2 months later there was a question on the billing. We asked Anita about it and her comment was "why should I care about this?" and "why does it matter to me?". The renter was visibly frustrated because phone calls and emails were never returned. Anita dodged the email question and took a total "I can care less attitude". The other thing that was really disturbing about Anita's attitude is one of my friends has a disability with sight and asked if Anita could make the screen font bigger on a computer readout. Anita laughed at my friends disability when this request was made. About 2 months later they storage unit raised the rent by $100 per month on each unit all at once. They gave several "stories" as to why this was done and they conflict with each other. No notification of an increase was received prior to them simply increasing the amount they autocharged to the credit card. In doing this it forced a move over the holiday season in inclement weather ruining Christmas for my friends as they had to fly in, last minute, to move their storage units to another location. They have an elderly mother and this may very well of been their last holiday together. This company's practices may of taken away their families last Christmas together. It is with this that I started thinking about our previous conversations. In hindsight it is my opinion that there may of been some religious discrimination going on here by Anita. In addition to these disturbing practices the facility itself seems to be in a bit of disrepair. The inside units are specifically climate controlled - the idea being that your goods stored are maintained dry and at a certain temperature. From simply walking around to help my friends move I found a water leak in the ceiling inside the facility, missing fire safety equipment (emergency sign) and an overall dirty and old environment. I have attached pictures of the water leak and missing fire safety sign. Things like the magnets to hold the doors open were broken and there are other signs of neglect. Upon check out we exited one of the units a few days before the other. Anita said she would process the checkout and the paperwork would be in email. It never arrived and it wasn't until I requested a physical printout that the checkout was processed - several days later. As such we are taking the unusual step of filing a formal criminal complaint with the Oregon Department of Justice after the holiday season and requesting a formal investigation of this facility, it's practices with their tenants and related issues. Needless to say I would recommend very strongly that you avoid this business. read more

I don't often use storage, I stopped by for a pickup order from Chalice, gotta get through these holidays :). If you have been you know it's pretty tight parking. It was busy, and all spots were filled so I thought, because it's just a pickup I guess it's not a huge deal to borrow their parking for a few minutes. I even saw they had another space in case someone needed to pull in for customer service from Extra Space. I was getting out of my car when Karen erupted out of Extra Space informing me immediately that I would be towed for using this space. If it was myself, I might have said something like, "Excuse me but that spot is for our business, would it be possible to park around the side until a spot opens up at Chalice?". It just rubbed me the wrong way... I informed Karen that I was only going to be 5 minutes, she stated that I would be towed. I informed her that there were no spots at Chalice and Karen replied, "Not my problem". I informed her she was "being mean" because well, she was, and not providing a good face for this business. So.. I pulled out (of the parking space) and soon realized I was blocking two people. I pulled into Extra Storage's 2nd available parking space to await someone leaving Chalice. Another man (assuming this is Karen's dog) exited the entrance to Extra Space and looked my way. I informed this bro dog that I was trying to get out of the way of two other people, and that Karen already informed me of policy. Bro dawg informs that he is out there to inform me that someone is pulling out of Chalice, and that a space is there... I mean I can see, so I informed him "I can see this with my eyes". Regardless to say, I went into the very high level of customer service from Chalice after following the excess from Extra Space. Got my stuff in 5mins, pulled away. It just irked me, I get it's a tight spot, it's busy and people probably often try to take advantage of a space, like myself today. I just feel, that this place should have better ways of communicating this, or just generally be nicer!!! It's been a tough year and we are right at the holidays. I wish I had read the other reviews before renting from this location. Introductory rate of $116/month was very competitive until they raised the rate 70% after only 3 months. Yes, I get it, it's month-to-month, but this is without a doubt bait and switch and should be illegal. When I called to ask why my rate increased $80 after 3 months and without notice, I was told they review the rates often and adjust to market. I'm sorry, but the storage market has not increased 70% in the last 3 months. They clearly are hoping people don't want to deal with the hassle of moving their stored items, but I will be finding a more reputable storage company in the few weeks. read more

Very nice and clean facility. Their introductory rates are a little on the high side as compared to other facilities. I was shocked when they raised my rent by nearly %30 after just four months. Price hikes that steep, that soon are completely unacceptable. Luring people in with low introductory rates to then turn around and jack the prices up is an unethical and predatory tactic. I had a great experience renting a storage unit from Extra Space Storage. I always appreciate speaking to a person but their website is user friendly. I started by going to their website and figuring out what size storage unit I would need and glean whatever info I could online. Once I had the basic information, I chose to call and speak to someone even though I did notice they had special online deals. I phoned and received excellent customer service from the employee (I had written everyone's name I connected with at extra space but can't find the paper). He (the employee) over the phone was patient and informative. It was refreshing because it was my first time renting a storage unit and I had a fair number of questions. Another couple of nice things was that he gave me the on-line price even though we completed the transaction over the phone and he included a free lock since I didn't have one. I received all confirmation info via email and also signed up for text message alerts. At the storage location, I found that getting past the gates was easy and user friendly using the code and found the entire property very clean and safe. I found my unit number and the lock was inside the unit - they had it zip tie style sealed that was easily broken by the renter (me) without needing scissors. Also, the lock was new in the package but they had already cut open the package which I thought was very thoughtful and professional - I didn't even think to bring scissors so that was a nice touch for sure. I could see it was a new lock but they opened just enough for me to be able to get it out with ease. The unit was clean, there weren't any dolly's/carts available in that building but I looked in the closest adjacent buildings and eventually had to find a staff member to inquire if they had any. I remembered driving in seeing a staff member washing the outside of some storage units and found her again. I asked about dolly's/carts and she reported that I should check a building nearby as they have been short (bc folks have been taking them from the complex and several have been broken). She noted that more have been ordered and they're awaiting more hopefully in a week to arrive. I found a couple of carts and took one to use while at the storage complex. I returned the cart and was on my way after closing up my storage unit. You need your code to get out as well. Every time after I accessed the unit, I found it to be clean, orderly, safe and overall a great experience. If I ever need to use a storage unit again, I'll definitely look to rent with this company again. Thank you! read more

DO NOT USE THIS STORAGE FACILITY! They quoted me $220 for the unit upon move in a year ago and after I moved my items in, they have increased my rate THREE TIMES in NINE MONTHS and it is now $385. Absolutely criminal, their bait and switch tactic of getting business as they realize how difficult it is for people (particularly during covid) to mobilize and move their items out. One of the worst experiences I've had with a business in a LONG TIME. I called each increase, only to be told by the manager that "corporate was contacted" and there was nothing they were willing to do in terms of lowering my rate. read more

When I first started with extra space storage they were very accommodating, I was told my price of 53$ month wouldn't go up for a year. However after 4 months it went to 80$+, then it went to 106$. I just spoke to Jeff (I think that-is what he said), he was extremely rude and very combative. He ended up hanging up on me. He also stated no on would tell me the price is good for a year. It's amusing that someone speaks for past employees. If you decide to rent from them I would ask them there rate, when it will increase and the process of termination of rental. read more

Previous review: I am not sure what has transpired here...but I helped my Aunt move into one of their storage units a few months back with the assistance of the Property Manager Anita... ANY time I needed anything, she or her assistant Brian were on premises to assist... now...Anita is not there... as a matter of fact, NO ONE is ever really on premises. The one time I was able to see someone, they were not wearing masks, nor were they practicing social distancing!!! It is a good thing that my Aunt and I were wearing a mask... My Aunt would be in BIG trouble if she were to get COVID. When I called and asked for the District Manager to contact me??? Crickets!!! I am moving my Aunt out immediately! I will NOT pay a company the amount that I pay every month to employ people with so little regard to their customers! No masks, social distancing, the district manager cannot even find it important enough to contact me and their grounds are a MESS! We are gone as soon as I can find a new storage unit and a moving truck!!! Update on a previous review... I think that it is utterly ridiculous and unprofessional that the District Manager has the time to act like a customer of extra space and be treated like a customer as well but does not have the time to return a customer's phone call regarding safety and the overall customer service to the very customers who keep them in business! Folks...the ethics and morals of this individual and extra space are questionable at best! Zero customer service but has all the time in the world to write bogus reviews on facebook??? NO extra space...I will not be calling you to discuss anything! Everything i have known and come to know has sealed the deal...I and my family and friends will be leaving your establishment and will never do business with you again! I needed to update my review for this place now that I've moved out of it after six months. Overall, the original review still sums it up. Brad at the front office here is exceptional! He has terrific customer service skills, is very knowledgable about the product and the area, and went out of his way to be responsive when problems arose. Unlike the manager, Anita, who rarely returned messages that were left, and when I did speak to her, she was borderline unpleasant and rude. In a phone conversation about my moving out, she said she would take care of pro-rating the month since I was only going to be there for a few days extra. This didn't happen and I was charged for the whole month. Called the place and spoke with Brad who took care of the whole thing immediately. He would be an infinitely superior manager than the person who is in that position right now. Other than the super cleanliness of the facility, Brad's exceptional customer service and responsiveness is the ONLY reason I'm giving this facility a three star. Lastly, I also sent an email to the corporate folks as that's the only avenue for CS emails and never heard back. I'm not especially fond of their way of doing business. My rate was raised after six months without notification even though they had all my snail mail and email on file. When I quizzed the manager, Anita, about this, she didn't have an answer other than the standard, "You should have received a notice in the mail." She went on to tell me they don't send email notices of rate increases out. Strange, that, because they are quick to send you an email receipt of your monthly payment. So...why not send an email notice of rate increase? That seems kind of lame to me. Maybe this company is still figuring things out, I don't know. But as I said in my original interview, I don't like surprises in doing business and my feeling is that Extra Space needs to operate with a bit more transparency as it goes forward. Most people don't appreciate surprise rate increases, nor do they like poor customer service. read more

The facility itself is very nice, and very affordable, but be aware of a number of unmentioned items when it comes time to rent. You have to have your own padlock with you the day you rent, regardless if it will be empty for several days before use, a great way for them to sell locks. Additionally, make sure you have written proof of your insurance when reserving, or they will force you to pay $45/month for $10,000 worth of coverage. Neither of these items was mentioned when I spoke with them about renting. Just letting you know, so you don't blow a gasket like I did with these unmentioned and unforseen costs, and unnecessary. read more
