We used them to move our belongings from AZ to HI - it was a seamless experience! The box showed up on time - we were able to load it the way we wanted and it was picked up the next day! After getting quotes from all the main moving companies, my wife and I decided to use U Pack. They had the best price by several hundred dollars. We were a little concerned because the price was so low but our expectations were exceeded by how smooth our move went. The pods arrived earlier than they said they would. We had plenty of time to pack in all of our things. Then, we called U Pack and they picked the pods up the next day. It took about four days for our pods to get to our new house which gave my wife and I plenty of time to set things up for unpacking once our pods arrived. Our pods arrived in the same condition they left. Boxes shifted a little during the move but no damage beyond the few dings furniture always gets when you move. We researched many different moving options including PODS and traditional movers. We selected U-Pack because it gave us the ability to not worry that we'd have too much for the size of the truck. We could pack as much as we wanted because the packing options and size of the truck allowed for this. The inside 'wall' with locking feature made us feel comfortable that our belongings were safe. We estimated 16ft but ended up using only 12ft so our estimate was decreased because of this. The trailer drop-off and pick up were smooth and the staff was very helpful. A bit of a hassle having to load a truck and having to unload my stuff again into a upack trailer 1.5 hours away from my place, but it was a pretty straightforward process. I saved a lot of money by doing it myself, even with hiring movers to help me load and unload. My move was from Los Angeles, CA to Richmond, VA and the quotes I got from moving companies were outrageous and they couldn't guarantee an arrival date. U-Pack arrived exactly as promised and when I called in, my trailer was driven straight to my place. After I finished unloading, I called up U-pack to pick up the truck. I would definitely use U-Pack again! Tip: purchase two locks ahead of time to secure your things in the trailer. The locks I bought were too thick. I recommend UPack for your moving needs. They helped facilitate a move from Los Angeles to North Carolina for me and my one bedroom apartment. We absolutely needed both of the two cubes we ordered, which fit all our items without a problem (one full of boxes and a few desks, furniture cushions, and soft items and the other full of odd shaped furniture, shelving, chairs, etc). Drivers were on time (paid the extra for delivery on a certain date and it was 100% worth it) and courteous of our property. Gave instructions online/ over the phone and coordinated with our landlord to park cubes appropriately. We had ample time with a 3-5 person crew to pack them both in 4 hours. Notes: Pack things well (really well). Furniture may need pads. Things will rub/vibrate/deteriorate if you leave them flush to one another or corners. Expect minor dings if you do not pad or wrap furniture. Some things shift in transit (our 2 wardrobe boxes were crushed but nothing but a few broken hangers, and the crappy packing was on us) but imagine driving 7 days on a truck and pack accordingly. Make sure you have a flat area for a 40' truck to get in and out of (plus a tiny forklift) for your load/unload. We packed at the terminal in LA (I imagine doing this in the street would've been maddening and bordering on impossible) and it was seamless. Absolutely worth the extra money for door to door delivery/drop off at your home on a specific date. Pickup is flexible too so if for some reason you needed to pack over several days they can accommodate. They picked up empty cubes without hassle. Overall this $4-5k venture was worth it to get us across the country. I would use this service again. read more

Moved from New Jersey to California and used a box from U-Pack. Got the smallest one which was I think 7x7x8? Packed myself after getting the box dropped off at my apartment and had it driven to their warehouse in California where I rented a UHaul and picked up my belongings. Saved myself $300-400 by having it delivered to their warehouse instead of worrying about it being in Downtown LA. The drop off of the box and pick up was as seamless as could be. We used U-Pack for our 2000 mile move from SoCal to Middle Tennessee. We were attracted to it because of the price. We ended up discovering they were easy to use & reliable!! They dropped off the cubes when they said they would & the driver accurately placed them in a very tight area in our driveway- a total pro!! We filled the cubes & they got picked up punctually on the next business day! I anticipated our personal belongings would have shifted on the trip, but surprisingly they didn't. We probably could've done a better job of loading things into the cubes, but even being amateur movers, it worked well!! We had a last minute change when we got to TN & needed to get our belongings earlier than we'd planned! I called ABF & discussed our needs & we agreed the best solution was to unload the cubes at the storage yard in Nashville & ship them ourselves. Since we didn't need our things delivered we were refunded over $300. Extra points: EVERYONE I talked to from drivers to customer service reps on the phone (Amy, Sherri, Connor) to Casey at the counter in the Nashville yard was very helpful & friendly. Great Experience moving from California across the country. ALL other moving companies and Pod-like cubes were twice the price. The only advice I have is to know your city's laws about leaving pods on the street, or you'll have to use a driveway or private parking lot. Also, make sure you pad everything because things do shift in the Relo-cube in transit (learned the hard way). The customer service was really great. I got texts and updates throughout the process. U-Pack has great customer service. We relocated from CA and the initial move was great. The drivers were professional and friendly, very knowledgeable and helpful. I did have an issue upon arrival though. They delivered my trailer without a ramp!!!! They told me that I would have to wait 1.5 hrs and ended up waiting 3.5 hours...totally unacceptable! There is a mass exodus out of California lately and all of the moving companies have hiked up their prices, making it difficult and expensive to move. However, U-Pack came in at a great price, way less than the competition, and they were very accommodating, and everyone I spoke with was friendly and always helpful. It was suggested I get 2 packing containers (they call them "relo-cube"), and that if I didn't need both I would only be charged for one. The driver who came was friendly and get me going and even suggested a better lock then the one I had purchased. The loaded cube came as promised to the destination and they worked with me to pick the best spot for unloading. Everything was as promised. The only 2 slight criticisms would be that the drop-off of the empty cubes came much later than originally promised (I had to wait 4 hours longer than expected), and that the pickup of the empty container at the end also took longer than expected. But other than those very minor mishaps I would highly recommend these guys to get you where you need to go. read more

Upack exceeded my expectation 100%. After reading reviews, I must admit that I was skeptical. Lets face it, moving across country is stressful to say the least and I combed the reviews with a very fine tooth comb. In the end I took the plunge and just did it and so glad I decided to go with upack. They allowed me to keep coming back to the facility to fill up the cube as I had plenty of space left after the movers finished loading what they were able to load from the uhaul truck. Customer service for UPACK is unbeatable! Much much better and cheaper than PODS. PODS costs was nearly double and the customer service reps were less than desirable despite the awards they say they have received. It must have gone to their heads. The fact that UPACK will allow you to order as many cubes as you think you need and not pay for any that you don't end up using was amazing. It allowed me to be able to tip the driver that delivered the cubes to my new residence pretty good and he was extremely grateful and happy. I would use UPACK again and again! I can't recommend them high enough. Also being able to track where my cubes were along the way was amazing. I wasn't left wondering where things were in the process. It took exactly 5 business days and that allowed me to comfortably drive across country and get tpo my new residence and further prep for the cubes to arrive. Nothing really shifted too much. Only one item was broken and that was because of the way it was packed by the guys that loaded the cube. My father was able to fix that once I arrived at my new residence...so ALLLLL good! Please ignore all of the less than favorable reviews and realize that alot of factors go into people's items being broken, the number one reason is that people don't know how to pack. Buy heavy duty boxes and padding, bubble wrap, etc. I see pictures of people items VERY poorly wrapped. Take time and pack your things like you care about them and stop blaming a truck that is naturally going to experience bumps in the road, etc. That's YOUR fault - not UPACk's. read more

They missed one star because my scheduled pick up somehow did not get placed and the day of the pick up I did not see them come so I called late morning to see when they were arriving and someone at the local dispatch dropped the ball and never put in the order. I was extremely frustrated and voiced my disgust and they were able to arrange someone to come and pick it up within an hour. Also for the most part all of the customer service people were friendly but on two or three different occasions I got different people who were bland, disengaged and sounded like I was bothering them. Now on to the good news... If you have a one bedroom apartment you will definitely need two relocubes. Unless you have no furniture, dont even think about just getting one. I didnt bring my sofa with me but my second relocube was pretty full and I doubt it would fit with my other stuff. Order more than what you think you will need just in case. If you dont use them there is no charge. The cubes were pretty clean inside The drivers who dropped them off and picked them up were very nice. The people at the local dispatch were very nice (at my destination location). Not counting pickup day, it took my cubes 10 calendar days to arrive to my location city and they were delivered on the 11th day. This worked out for my schedule but getting them a bit sooner would have been nice but it was not an issue for me and the timeframe depends on your location. Everything arrived safely and secure. Not ONE thing was damaged. I will have to say you are in control of the packing. If you pack in such a way that things will fall and topple over then things will be damaged. Get moving blankets, bubble wrap, moving twine to tie things down etc. Pack boxes (heavy on bottom light on top). Make sure to stack boxes flat on each other so things dont tumble. Confirm your drop off and pick up times. I was very pleased with this service and it was a lot cheaper than PODS. I locked them myself and the locks were still secure when they arrived. Again when I opened the pods everything looked exactly in the same spot as though I just packed them. read more

The U-Pack experience was good overall. My shipment was from Paso Robles, California to Voorhees, NJ. U-Pack contracts with trucking companies on either end of the haul. The NJ end was fine. We had a lot of difficulty with the CA end. The trucking company was out of southern CA (Pico Rivera) and we live in central CA. The trucking company has a branch in Santa Maria and they were not very interested in delivering and picking up the trailer to our location. The trailer arrived dirty with broken glass in the front area where I was to pack my furniture. It took a lot of phone calls and complaints over the period of a week to get it picked up, and it was blocking the driveway to the house. They would make promises that they obviously didn't plan on keeping and then make lame excuses. I would have given U-Pack 5 stars otherwise. read more

I am giving only 1 star, because of their amazingly rude, arrogant and irresponsible employees. Well, their website explains really well about container (they call it relo-cube), moving process, and their policies. and when i first called the 800 number, customer svc rep was kind, the process was easy, and i didn't have anything to complaint.. HOWEVER... on the day that i was supposed to receive an empty relo-cube, they were 3 hours late.. i had to call 3 times to track where the driver was.. And when the driver finally arrived.. he did not apologize at all, and he said "hey, i didn't bring the papers. you have a computer at home, right? why don't you go upstairs and print out 2 copies of contracts for me. ok?" what the..?? i have no problem doing that, but is that the right way to ask? he didn't even seem sorry for the late arrival. Well, anyway i got the paperwork, and came down... and guess what.. he was trying to park the relo-cube on the street, where the sign says only 2 hours parking is allowed.. So i stopped him and explained, "i'm sorry but you can't put it here. i will get a parking ticket. I have a spot reserved inside our apartment parking garage.. can you please put that in there?" ... and he said "No we can't, because relo-cube is too high to go through the garage gate. Look at all these cars~! they are all parked here on the street~! we can park this cube here, too!" well, i understand that the gate is not high enough, but didn't i just explained him that this street is only for 2 hour daily parking? It says clearly on the sign, and we were both looking at it, and he still says that? So i asked him again, "oh i see.. but anyway you can't park the cube here.. LA city is very strict on the parking regulation.. this street is only good for 2 hours daily. Do you have any equipment to lay the container down so it can go under the garage door? Also I don't feel safe to leave the container outside on the street.." then he replied SO RUDLY, "No we don't have that kind of equipment, and it is not possible~! i'll go now. i'm busy." and he added, "it's a common sense~! you should have known that this cube won't go thru your garage gate~! it is a common sense~" so i don't even have a common sense..? The rep who took the order in the first place, should have told me that i have to check if the garage gate is higher than their cube height.. I didn't even think something like this could happen.. it was my first time to use moving container..! So, i replied... "OK, then just tell me... how do other people do? Do they all put their containers on the street like this? you know, usually apartment complex parking gate is not that high.. then what do you normally do? just put it anywhere like this and go?" i was merely just asking.. because i was really curious..! and he goes.. "you get smart with me, then just do whatever you want! i am leaving now." What the... i can understand that it doesn't go under the gate, etc... but INSTEAD OF EXPLAINING IT TO ME NICELY... HIS ATTITUDE WAS SO ARROGANT AND IRRESPONSIBLE, "WHATEVER, I DON'T CARE"..ATTITUDE. I WAS EXTREMELY OFFENDED, AND I EVEN TALKED TO HIS MANAGER LATER, BUT HE WAS NOT THAT KIND EITHER. THE MANAGER KEPT SAYING "WELL I DON'T KNOW.. I DON'T KNOW.." finally we found a street that didn't have any time limitations.. so luckily we could park the container there. but it doesn't end here... They didn't even bring the LOCKS for the container.. they said i can buy the lock from local locksmith... I thought the locks were incldued in the fee.. but the driver said, i should have ordered the locks when i first made an order. the rep didn't even ask me if i needed a lock..!! later on, the driver apologized to me, (becuase i talked to his manager..) but i still think this is not the way to treat his customer. phew.. what a day. I WILL NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE EVER..!!!! read more

Moving from Los Angeles to Minneapolis was a lot of work, but made much easier by using UPack. U-Pack's quote page estimates higher than what they actually charge! Call them for a quote - don't rely on the web page. I had a fear that something would get broken on the trip - either my lack of packing skills or carelessness on the part of the shipper. U-Pack handled my things as if they were their own. 1 glass bowl was broken ... my poor packing skills :) ... If I ever need to move again U-Pack is my only choice. We had a great experience. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that when we arrived with our stuff to pack on the truck they kept us waiting for about 35 minutes. Apparently, everyone was at lunch and even though we called ahead to give them our ETA like instructed, no one left out the trailer for us to start packing. However, they gave us a great quote based on how much feet they expected us to use. We stacked as high as possible and used a lot less feet than expected. Our move was from LA to Charleston and was the lowest quote by far to move across country. We researched every way possible including driving a Penske ourselves and UPack was by far the most affordable. Our furniture arrived exactly when they said it would and they dropped the trailer in our driveway, gave us 3 days to unpack then came and picked up the trailer once it was empty. It's too bad that other reviewers had such a bad experience -- mine was amazing! The thing to remember is that this is budget moving. If you want someone to do the work, you can have that, but you pay a lot more. Since hiring movers to drive my stuff from Seattle to LA was out of the question financially, I researched the options for pack-it-yourself containers. I called PODs, but they wanted $2800 for one container that was about 1.5 the size of ABF's ReloCube. ABF gave me two cubes for $1200. I managed to fit most of a 15x15 storage unit in them. I did have to give away two couches because they wouldn't fit, but seriously, who has three couches? How did I end up with three couches? At every step of the way, from the guy doing my quote, to dispatch at both ends, the customer service was impeccable. Everyone was nice and helpful and patient, and since I had never done this before, I had lots of questions about where the cubes would fit, and how they arrive, etc. Cubes arrived when they were supposed to, and were picked up when they were scheduled to be. Explained our parking situation ahead of time and they told us it was not a problem, they even explained how they would drop it off and that they were familiar with the area. When they got there they refused to try and now we have to pay out of pocket for a uhaul and drive all the way out to their warehouse Pacioma multiple times (not close, especially with LA traffic) and take time off work to do so. This is a great company to use cross country. This is our second trip with them and we could not be happier. They arrived for pickup on the day they said they would and arrived at our home within the three day window they gave us. Everything arrived safely. Trailer was picked up in our driveway early morning and we never even heard them (our bedroom is right below where trailer is parked). 5 stars to the drivers and staff for communication. A couple of quick tips: have some flexibility in your schedule with delivery. Traffic, accidents and natural disasters can occur. They are not robots. Pack well and secure all items with rope! The wood barrier is not supposed to hold back heavy loads and items can shift in transit. Be conscientious packers and don't blame the company if something breaks (our first trip we had a one break do to bad packing on my part). Los Angeles no longer allows trailers to be dropped on the street. Secure private locations and you won't have to worry about parking tickets. ABS trucking does not work weekends! Schedule your pickup early. If you call Thursday afternoon to pick up Friday morning, they may not have enough time. Hands down the best company to use cross country or heavy loads as they charge by square foot. They gave us a quote and we used less square footage so they charged us less.
