She then asked what this was for, and I told her the situation. While it was strange that she turned away business from a first-time customer, I soon came to appreciate her honesty, opinions, and skill in subsequent alterations. Julie is the best seamstress ever! In the past, I've never gotten any of my clothes tailored but lately I've ordered clothes online so its hard to tell how they will fit. I bring all of my skirts and dresses to Julie and she sews them to perfection. She makes all of my clothes look PERFECT on my body shape and she always jokes around about how she's about to make me look so sexy! She's so fun and makes you very comfortable to work with. Julie has tailored many dresses for me but most recently my wedding dress. She fixed up the belt , added hook and eyes for the dancing and the underarms so it was comfortable. I spent less than $4 and danced the night away. She is very kind and even said no to an item that she said couldn't be tailored without ruining the dress. Came here last week with 1 suit and an additional jacket and shirt. When I tried them on the woman helping me had a great eye for what I could do to really get those clothes fitting in a flattering way. I use GQ for all my style advice and when I mentioned they had said it was in to have a cuff at the bottom of the pants but couldn't remember how much, she was able to tell me what American standard versus fashion sizes were (I went with the fashion size because, why not?) and they look great. She took in the jacket, shortened the sleeves on both jackets, slimmed the pants and added the cuff, as well as shortened the sleeves on the shirt and added extra buttons, all for about $100. I walked in on a Monday afternoon, changed into the suit, she quickly measured me, made a few marks, and told me to pick it up Tuesday at 2! I thought she meant the next week! Wow. I went in on a Tuesday with a bunch of items, and I mentioned to the lady at the front that I mainly wanted one item ready by next Monday for my cousins wedding she said yes that's fine and took my measurements and told me how she would fix the back zipper and to come back on Friday to measure the rest of the stuff on with heels that I needed to bring.. I show up Monday afternoon and the romper wasn't even started... she back tracked on everything she said and she needed to order a special zipper to match the color of the romper. I was very disappointed and now I'm having to rush to the mall to find another outfit for my cousins wedding. Don't recommend this place at all! read more

I've been here several times to have pants, dresses, and skirts hemmed and they've always done a good job. I've also had a few shirts taken in and I've never had any issues with their work. However, I'm giving them an average rating because the last 2 times that I went, they told me to return in a week to pick up my items and neither times were my clothes ready. The last time that I went, I called before going to make sure my clothes were tailored, and they left me on hold for 30 minutes! I ended up having to go to the place anyways because they forgot about me. Their tailoring is really good, but not having things done on time is really not helpful. read more

The lady who did my pants, Julie, did a horrible job! First of all, these were designer pants and she just did a quick measuring on the bottom of the pants and pinned it up on one side only... she did not bother to take the time to make sure that everything was correct. When I got the suit pants back, they were so short that when I sat down the leg rode up close to mid-shin. DO NOT TAKE YOUR NICE CLOTHES TO THIS PLACE!!! If you have anything that you need alterations on, please please take it to a qualified Tailor. This lady does not know what she is doing and does a shoddy job at best. A good tailor would use a tape strip to do a more professional hem. ONLY TAKE YOUR CLOTHES TO THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT THEM RUINED!!!! i had a very very bad experience with this place. The owner was very friendly and helpful when dealing with the customers, but what ended up making me to give then 1 star is because of how the owner forgot to altered my dress when i gave her a full week to do a simple 10 minutes task for my dress ( as of calling themselves "professional + experience", it is a x1000 times simple task), on the day i came to pick up my dress, the owner wasnt there, there were two other vietnamese women who talked to me and decided to fix my dress in 7minutes rush. the women who altered my dress has no experience, SHE USED DIFFERENT THREAD COLOR with my dress and made the WRONG ALTERATIONS too, the ALTERATIONS looks UGLY and UNACCEPTABLE with MANY LOOSE THREADS, at the end, they still charges me $11 for it. If you want to come here, then dont let anyone touch your clothes but the owner, ONE BIG ADVICE read more

I was surprised by the lack of customer service after reading positive reviews. However, my experience was very similar to the other 1 star review that I saw. There was an initial misunderstanding about the pickup date therefore I was not upset. I was told by the owner to return the next day and it would be ready. The next day, one of the items was still not ready. Instead of apologizing, I heard several excuses about how it wasn't 6 p.m. yet, I wanted the fabric saved so it took longer and also that they did the job as a "favor" to me as I was Vietnamese. I was very surprised. The cost of the tailoring was not cheap. My bridesmaid dress cost 80 dollars to tailor. My 5 month old son's suit cost 27 dollars to tailor (which was about the cost of buying that suit for him). There are many other tailors who have great customer service and are much cheaper. I would recommend Star Tailor in Montrose area. As a reasonable person, I feel that people who work in customer service need to learn that a simple "I'm sorry" goes a long way. (I also was overcharged for my items, but did not feel it was worth the fight over 12 dollars that she couldn't "remember" overcharging me.) Also, she only accepts cash. I think I am going to avoid these cash-only businesses from now on. I will definitely be avoiding this one. read more

Complete waste of time. Had a nylon flight jacket I wanted shortened, so I called because of the good Yelp reviews. They said sure come on down, we can do it. So I drove 25 miles in the rain hoping for the best. This jacket, btw, is insulated nylon with wool knit wrist- and waist-bands. What I wanted was to shorten the sleeves and shorten the back about an inch. To my dismay, I could not get the woman who waited on me to understand what I required. I even wore a similar jacket to demonstrate what I wanted. She seemed to think that I wanted to shorten the nylon body of the jacket while retaining the overall length of the nylon/wool knit combination (an impossible request). The ensuing conversation we had was too ridiculous to relate. In the end, she said, "We can't do it." I said fine and fled, happy to not have a $500 jacket go under the knife at this roadside clinic, yet angered at the waste of an afternoon. I give one star because there is not a no star choice. I had a dress that I needed to have hemmed. I went here because of the good reviews and it was close to where I live. The lady seemed nice at first. I tried on my dress, and she pinned it. When I was writing my info on the ticket, she had already scribbled the price. She didn't even tell me until I asked her. So she's charging me $40. I thought it was steep, but I guess because of the sequins. She said that was the price they always charged. I come back a few days later, and I hesitantly paid the $40. The hem looked decent at a glance. Upon closer inspection when I got home, I noticed that she had just cut around the sequin pattern (some of it was not even done that nicely). No sewing whatsoever had to be done. I thought "Wow... I paid someone that much to just cut for me? I could have done that myself." I honestly did not think this was fair. So I called her to just ask her why I was being charged so much. She said that that was the price for all sequined dresses. I told her that I only paid $30 for the dress, yet she charged me $40. She said that what I paid should not affect my alteration price. She said that sewing is "easy" and that cutting takes longer. This was why I was charged so much. She said she had a lot of customers and implied that she didn't have complaints nor did she need my business. She told me that I should have gone somewhere else if I didn't like the price, and that I can't go home and complain after it's already been done. True, I could have gone somewhere else and should have said something earlier. But since I'm not a seamstress, I did not know what was going to be done. If I would have known that I could have just CUT the fabric, I would have done it myself. I CANNOT sew, that was why I brought it to a tailor. This is very dishonest business, in my opinion. You should charge based on the amount of alterations needed, not based solely on the fact that it is a certain type of clothing. read more

i had a blast here. At first it was hard finding because i put in Holcomb instead of W Holcomb but in all very fast to find. When i first got there the owner was very nice asked me what i would like to for her to do . I tried all 4 brand new suits, as she was surprised by my age. She is very funny. I was in and out in 10 min. I am sure she is Vietnamese knowing the culture very well. She was quick very fast gave me tips and pointers on my style. Also gave me compliments. I looked at the reviews before coming here and yes without a doubt she is one of the best in Houston. I spent a lot of money on purchasing the suits from the place that took 2 weeks to tailor. I came here and IT ONLY TOOK HER 1 DAY!!! Plus it was not expensive. She is a very smart and business oriented lady, putting the customer first.
