I have moved several times over the last five years, including cross country and back to New York. On more than one occasion, the move was traumatic for a variety of reasons, so I have a fair amount of trepidation when it comes to movers. Recently I had to move from Poughkeepsie to Brooklyn. I needed to find a new mover, so I asked my realtor and he recommended U. Santini. I had asked a different local mover first, but they said they didn't like the "hassle" of driving into the city. U. Santini were very responsive, professional, and cooperative on the phone. They offered me a few options and told me the rates. Two weeks later, they arrived right on time (which was impressive, considering the traffic possibilities in Brooklyn). It was a three man crew and a large truck. The driver spoke perfect English and greeted me warmly, as did the other two men. I toured the house and explained everything (only certain items were going, not all). They were fast, careful, and respectful of my belongings. Anything I was concerned about, they handled with ease including guitars without cases, TVs, printers, and taking apart furniture. They packed up the truck and drove down--we drove separately. We got to the apartment first because we could take different roads. I predicted they would try and make me pay a crazy sum of money for extra boxes or packing, or that they would take forever to arrive. But they got to the apartment maybe twenty minutes after us. They brought up all the stuff. Everything was there; nothing was damaged. They placed things where I asked and rebuilt the furniture. At the end, the price was extremely reasonable and true to the hourly quote. The extra boxes and packing supplies cost much less than I predicted. The whole thing was as stress free as possible, and my wife and I were thrilled with the results. They even gave me a dolly for help with unpacking and moving boxes around. U. Santini came highly recommended to us from a family member so we chose them despite the high quote because of the assurances we received of their professionalism and reliability. We've had bad movers break things before. Turns out U Santini doesn't break things, they just lose them completely. Upon arriving and unboxing, we realized that one bag was missing -- the bag containing a lifetime collection of jewelry. It wasn't fragile and we'd watched it leave the house with the other suitcases that we had packed at the apartment we were moving out of so we trusted the team to move it safely. We noticed it was missing that night and called U. Santini repeatedly but they just kept telling us to check the apartment again. We had completely unpacked already, and the bag was nowhere in the apartment. I called them for the 8th time over two weeks to talk about the missing bag and see if they found it on the truck, they hadn't. It took countless repetitions to make clear that this wasn't just any bag but that it had all my jewelry in it and their response eventually was "Oh no wow I didn't know that shoot are you sure? Wow. Well we can only offer you 30 cents a pound." I submitted a claim and got a call a week or two later saying that because I didn't log the bag on their papers U.Santini didn't owe me anything. At no point did they ask me to log anything on any paper. Or ask about the value of anything I was moving. I've had bad movers break things, but I've never had something just disappear en route! I didn't think I needed to point out that everything should make it from Point A to Point B. You're movers. It's in your name. Would never recommend this company to anyone moving anything worth more than 30 cents a pound. read more

I asked my real estate broker if she had a recommendation for a mover as I was moving across country from Brooklyn to Oakland after selling my condo. She asked around and said a lot of brokers recommend U. Santini. I coordinated everything by email with Simi, including the quote, and the date and the time of my move, possible purchase of boxes, and other questions I had along the way. He was very responsive and answered me right away. On move day, Billy and Rollin showed up ON TIME, WEARING MASKS, at 8:30 AM and moved all of my stuff. Since I was storing my furniture for a few months, they wrapped all of it in those big blankets with lots of tape and padding and it just was very secure looking. They were awesome. Super professional, really nice, fast in a good way, and they helped some friends who showed up for some of my possessions that I couldn't take with me. I've used U. Santini four times now. My first three moves were all Brooklyn to Brooklyn but I was continually impressed with how reliable these movers were. Their estimates were right on target, they showed up when they said they would and they were meticulous in packing my things--probably too meticulous! They treated my Target dinner plates as if they were fine china and wrapped every piece carefully. Anyway, last week I had a much larger move out of state and I called them with very little notice (less than a week). Simi was great to work with in scheduling the move and working with the management company at my old building in Fort Greene and Mario and his crew, who handled the move itself, were excellent. Everyone was extremely careful and extremely interested in doing things exactly as I wanted. All of the guys were polite and professional. They worked quickly but again, took great care with my items. For pieces that they took apart, they rebuilt them (better than I had originally constructed them) and were patient with me when I had them move furniture from room to room once I saw how it looked in the new location. Awful; they broke two expensive custom picture frames and damaged antiques and other furniture, they wrapped pennies and screws and put them in nearly empty boxes to charge me for more time and more boxes (which were already used and they took back and re-used after charging me hundreds of dollars worth of boxes [I live in a tiny Brooklyn 1 bed so obviously don't have that much]), and on top of that he cornered me from the beginning to tell me how much I needed to tip him (in cash!) before they would even start moving me. I was referred to Simi at U. Santini for a local move within Jersey City. I had previously relocated across country from LA and had used United Van Lines and have moved many times before with other companies (Flatrate). This time, I needed a professional, local moving company to help make this move easy. From the moment I contacted Simi, he was responsive and helpful, showing up for an estimate within the same week (2 months before move) and quoting full pack and no pack options to give me flexibility. In the week leading up to the move, he helped me finalize timeline (coordinating elevator windows at both buildings) and COIs, and sent 2 guys from his team to get me packed up the day before (which we hadn't planned for but needed given tight timelines on elevators). I am not sure how I felt about the team being able to put my entire life in a box in 3 hours :), but it sure saved me time on move day and allowed the team to get in and out of the buildings quickly and efficiently. I lost one small pane of glass from a side table that the team compensated me for. While the final price was $300 higher than the high end of estimate and I tipped on top of that, the time saved in getting my treasures packed properly and me moved quickly and easily, including helping me place furniture and unpack/remove some of the bigger empty boxes in the smaller new apartment made it possible for me to get settled in one busy weekend. I can't recommend U. Santini highly enough. Moving is always horrible, but Super Mario, Jhon, and Jhosep did an amazing job hauling my silly garbage between boroughs and up two flights of very narrow stairs without any damage (this includes a ridiculously heavy piano). In the time it took me to touch every piece of paper I've hoarded and subsequently decide to keep each piece of said paper, they packed and loaded my entire apartment. Amazingly, out of the many places I got quotes from, it was closer to the less expensive options. Will likely die in my new place, but if I ever need to move again, will make sure it's with U. Super Mario and his team (John, Edwin, Joseph and Abraham) helped us move on a miserably hot day in July of this year, when the high-pressure "heat dome" sent temperatures and humidity soaring. They hauled our stuff down 3 flights of stairs, then back up three flights of stairs at the next location, in a relatively short amount of time. They disassembled the bed and table very quickly, and moved it through a super-narrow hallway at the move-in location with no nicks or scratches. Also, they were very communicative about additional packaging expenses-- they told us cost, what they needed to use (before they used it) and why. On top of that, super-friendly and upbeat despite working in some really tough conditions. Amazing, guys. You are seriously the best and we couldn't have done it without your help. read more

I recently used U. Santini on a complicated move. It involved sending 2/3 of my stuff from a house in Brooklyn to another house upstate. The other 1/3 had to be picked up, unloaded in storage, re-loaded and delivered to a building in Manhattan. Oh, and on the way I asked them to pay for and pick up a dining table I had purchased from Craigslist. I chose them because I'm old-fashioned, I like to deal with a business that has been around a while, is local, and where you can walk in and meet the owner. So after doing just that, I asked them to come over and give me a price. Naturally I also checked their record at the BBB and online. The estimate I got was based on time and materials, not a 'flat rate', so I asked the estimator what were the chances of the estimate going over. He said that as long as I did what I said I would, i.e., pack my stuff as I had promised, that I would not be charged more. And in fact that's how it was. All the moves went like clockwork, and to my surprise nothing was damaged. I should also mention that all my furniture is heavy, solid wood furniture, and I have a lot of heavy stuff like books and LPs. The movers didn't complain and they dealt with everything that came up while staying cheerful and dedicated the whole move. All in all, a great experience. read more

Don't even bother with this company! First appointment for an estimate was cancelled 1/2 hr after they were expected here. Second appt...no show, no call!!! Talked to OWNER of business and his excuse was that the estimator had car trouble. Were his fingers broken also that he couldnt' call his waiting clients to let them know???? This past election day, all my worldly possessions were moved from a 2-story house + basement in Westchester into U.Santini's storage facility in Brooklyn, to await a second move to an apartment in Brooklyn at the end of the year. Having no experience whatsoever with packing items and furniture to go into storage, I must admit I was a little apprehensive about the entire procedure. I should have known better, having had the pleasure of working with U Santini --and Super Mario -- some 2 years prior : after some minor delays getting from Brooklyn to Westchester (and a phone call to keep me apprised of the delay), the crew arrived ready to roll, and worked tirelessly and with a smile until the truck was fully loaded and they were ready to drive back to Brooklyn -- in rush-hour traffic. It is worth noting that last year I moved the exact same contents from one house to another in Westchester with a major national moving company and had an all around nightmarish experience. It had not dawned on me that I could use U. Santini (which I associated with my old neighborhood in Brooklyn) to do the move. Just completed a move with them. From the beginning it was hassle free. They were the only moving company who offered to come to my apartment before giving a quote. Used this company for a move from condo (only about a mile away) to have 2 br apt put into their storage and then move to apt in Rego park 1.5 months later. Move out went very smooth. Only took 3 hours including wrapping some items. All items were wrapped in quilts or boxed. We packed most of the apt. ourselves. Haven't moved in 19 years so not too sure what a move like that costs but it was worth it to us. Simi even recalculated estimate when I asked him to return once we got closer to move date and we had packed up much more stuff. Only four stars because of pricing. My concern was total time calculated in both moves seemed to be more than I expected however, price was as stated in estimate. Moving guys get 5 stars. They held furniture up so I could place sliders underneath and but everything where I asked. The crew that showed up: Super Mario, (and I apologize to the rest of the guys, I just moved into the new place yesterday with Mario and a different crew yesterday. Where to start I had my stuff in storage with them for many years. When I finally wanted my stuff moved I called. They changed the date on me 3 times and only because I called. Had I not called they planned on just not showing up and I took the 3 days off of work. The owner, Dan Mencini, would always say he would call and never did. Finally I receive my stuff and a box was missing. I called everyday. Dan Mencini picked up only once and said he would follow up and never did. I emailed I tried calling and never have been able to get through to him. He has taken zero responsibility and dealing with him and the company has been a struggle throughout the years. When they delivered my furniture, many of the pieces were cracked and the wood furniture damaged. There are so many great movers out there, definitely do NOT use santini movers if you value your furniture and expect an actual response from the owner himself read more

a little over 3 years ago i used this moving company; santini's...i used them 2x to move to two places....i trusted them. it was my first time to have used a public moving company. all other times my friends, family & relatives always helped. all i can tell u is that they robbed me both times & i actually saw them doing it!! they stopped the truck in the middle of the road & saw the guys unloading my stuff off the back of the truck. i wrote the company with an itemized list & they made comment about what i saw & they made up some odd ball excuse for the happening!! to date all the items stolen come to over $10,000.00 & i had them investigated & took action against them but to no satisfaction!!! they broke my heart cause many of the items were from my grandfather who brought things over from europe in the late 1800's & were in my family for over 100 years. i hate what they did to me & my family to this day ...i payed dearly in cash to them & was very generous in tipping them.....but never did i realize the ugly experience i went thru until it was way too late!! (u certainly dont need a gun to hold-up anyone to rob them!!) read more
