Stopped by during happy and did the "Signature Tasting" happy hour omakase 9 course tasting for 2 fora total of $120 10/10 recommend, it is perfect We ordered some extra happy hour items but all in all it was worth it. Had such a good experience I will go back! Intimate dark inside, bar seating available where you can view chefs cook. Waiter was so friendly, he mentioned you can do a Somakase where create your own tasting and you can give them a budget and any preferences or allergies & they can create an experience for you! Will be going back to do a Somakase!

Had a great experience at Uchi! Service was quick and every dish came out at a good pace. The kinoko nabe with gyutoro was definitely my favorite bite of the night -- so flavorful and comforting. We did the happy hour omakase for $120 for two people and it was absolutely worth it. Such a perfect date night spot! There's a parking garage at the Montrose Collective that you can park in for a fee!

They have a happy hour menu that goes from 4-6p that's really affordable and pretty extensive for a happy hour. The server said they're expanding to NYC next year (2027) so that will be fun. Parking is available (paid) across the street at an underground covered garage - you can use tap payment at the kiosk while exiting; it's automatic via your license plate. I think $4.25 for an hour and a half. hama chili - 3 pieces of yellowtail sashimi. best dish I tried walu walu - strong fishy taste, very heavy sakana tempura - an extremely rich, fried, very very heavy taste. I couldn't stomach eating more than 2 of them although they do seem to be cooked to perfection it's an extremely fatty dish. salmon makimono - interesting addition of mint to the roll; wasn't a huge fan of the collection of flavors but good quality fish/ingredients.

This place is still my fav. The inside is a casual vibe for a sushi place but the prices and taste is by any means casual. This is actually one of my favorite sushi spots in Houston. The service is great and the servers are similar with the dishes. There's a parking garage where you can park and it does cost money. I think I saw valet too but i don't think it is complimentary. They change up the menu every once in a while or try new things out. They have daily special on the menu. They have plenty of drinks and even zero proof. Their Brussel sprouts is truly one of the best I've ever had. They were like marinated and drenched in sweet chili and lemon. I tried the a5 hot rock waygu and that was very tasty. Flavors and texture was there I could taste the quality. My favorite was the a5 Uni nigiri. This just melted in my mouth. I tried the waygyu tartare and the bread it came with made this dish it was buttery or milky soft and tossed. The actual meat was grinded up like you'd expect and it was okay just the bread really made this dish. I also loved the kanpachi crudo. It was just the right amount of sauce that leveled up the amberjack and the pineapple brighten the dish. I tried the flounder on the daily special menu and that was not it. This had to be the worse thing I tried. The cilantro broth was too heavy and the cilantro flavors were overpowering. The flounder even tasted dry. I received a free crab roll and this was tasty. Had the hamachi chili which the hamachi is always my favorite with the chilis and pineapple. The blue fin otoro was also one of my favorites. I just love the melt in your mouth textures. The salmon belly was okay. I tried the collar bone fish (Hama Kama) and that was fire. You're suppose to scoop out the fish. It's very easy to pick off the fish it was so soft and fall off the bone. The sauce it came with reminded me of nuoc mam but its sesame vinegar. It paired really well with the fish.

Friendly staff, enthusiastic service, intimate atmosphere! Came to Uchi as part of a group dinner with a set coursed menu. The food was fantastic-- fresh, clean, and well complimenting flavors. The highlight for us was the Chutoro nigiri. Despite a classic combination of flavors, the ginger they used had a fresh and spicy kick which we all enjoyed, paired with melt in your mouth fish. The coursed dinner proved that you can't really go wrong with any of the menu items at Uchi, they're all made with simple ingredients which are prepared and paired well. Is it the best sushi restaurant in Houston? Unfortunately not... but are they in the runnings? 100% The vibes at Uchi are intimate. Regardless of if it's a date or a group dinner, the environment really brings everyone together... the bustling conversations throughout the dining room is evidence of that. Rating: 9/10, rounded up for 5 stars for great service and simply great ingredients

Uchi Houston might've been my best dining experience thus far. My partner and I came for our anniversary and had an extraordinary time dining with them. Our server was named Tyler, and he was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the menu. We had so many dishes, from the Walu Walu to the Wagyu every bite was perfection. When we were served each dish we were instructed on how best to eat it and a detailed description of its ingredients. I loved this aspect, we got to fully understand the process and get a well rounded experience. Uchi's ambient lighting and gorgeous interiors make for the perfect date night spot. My partner and I have already booked another reservation to come back in June!

Delicious omasake experience! We also ordered the shag roll from the menu. Would definitely recommend the happy hour omakase! It's filling, well-timed out courses, and a reasonable price for the amount of food. Ambiance is perfect for a fun date. Hype music but not too loud where you can't hear your date. Service is very very good. Every waiter is attentive, friendly, and welcoming.

This is my second time coming to Uchi. I was greeted by the hosts when I walked in and was taken care of. The staff were so friendly and they made sure to check on us while we were enjoying our meals. I went during happy hour which there was a lot of great deals. I got the omakase for 2 and it was worth it. I was excited to see what we were going to get next. The salmon nigiri was my favorite. We also got the Hama Kama and the flavor was amazing. It was so soft and the fish fell off the bone. I would definitely go back here especially if you are coming to celebrate for a special occasion.

Had a reservation at Uchi. Seated once the entire party arrived. Got our drink orders in quick. - Espresso martini was pretty good & miso carajillo was better after mixing! It took a while before food orders were placed. Luckily everything came out at a good pace. Service was excellent and staff was friendly. - Ora king salmon (1 big piece) - least fave, worth trying once tho - Muki hotate gunkan (scallop & avocado) - got a 2nd round since they were that good Sashimi 6pc - Madai: Good but scales/crispy texture threw me off - can't decide which was my fave between Akami (tuna) & Sake toro (salmon belly) - Unagi nigiri was great (slightly crispy) - Zero sen maki: roll was delicious, unique flavors! - Enjoyed the brussel sprouts. - Hot rock (wagyu 6pc): just like the name, that's where you cook the meat for a few seconds haha - Hama chili (yellowtail paired w/ orange): this was amazing They brought a complimentary dessert for a friend celebrating her birthday! Dessert: Fried milk ice cream (3pc) - melts in your mouth! Honestly each person should order their own portion for this! Can't wait to dine at Uchi again!

Stop 3 on an unexpected happy hour tour! Let's just say what I thought would be a 2 hour catch up at another spot turned into a full on girls night. We had already eaten but all desperately wanted a lychee martini. So we walked over and met the sweetest worker who told us we could hang out on the patio if we wanted a more relaxed vibe since we weren't planning on ordering food. This was perfect since we weren't also planning to do our small gifts exchange! We ran into a couple of guys who wanted to join in the fun and ended up getting us another round of a specialty margarita. While we were surprised there were no actual lychees the cocktail was still beautiful and even included an edible flower. Will come back for dinner

    Yasmin S.

I loveddd their happy hour! We ordered lychee martinis which were super good, and a margarita on their menu which was yummy. The only downside is that they don't include a lychee in them(bummer!) However, our waitress was so sweet! I can't remember her name, but she worked Friday evening. She was very personable, and super friendly. I'll definitely be back for food next time.

Husband wanted to do an impromptu date night in the middle of the week, and we've always heard so much about Uchi he decided that's where he wanted to go! He was able to get reservations for the next day, even though they showed fully booked they were able to fit us in when we called them, which we really appreciated. I'm always a bit nervous with places that serve sushi because there's never much on the menu for me- I don't do seafood. And understandably I can't expect them to cater to non-seafood eaters at a seafood place. However, Uchi has so many options! They even have a vegetarian menu. My friends had told me to be sure to try the Gyutoro, it's this 72 hour wagyu beef sashimi, and when they bring it out they explain the way to eat it is to flip inside down and get a feel for the seasoning on the bottom. It was melt in your mouth delicious. We were so happy with that dish we ordered more. We also had the A5 Hot Rock with wagyu and it was such a fun concept. They bring out a hot stone, and raw wagyu beef, that you cook yourself tableside on top of the stone, it instantly starts to sizzle when the beef touches it. It's interesting because this was also Wagyu beef but the flavors and taste were entirely different from the other dishes we had ordered. We enjoyed this and was a fun concept. We had edamame which was standard fare, onion ring tempura- nice and crispy, gyumaki and for dessert we had the fried milk dessert. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Our server did seem in a hurry to rush us out, maybe that's because we were worked in when they were showing sold out? We had a great time though and can't wait to try more on the menu.

    Nicki M.

Uchi is one of those places that is consistently delicious and keeps me coming back! I've been many times and always have a really fun server but this time, ours was definitely good and knowledgeable but just lacked that "so glad you're here" personality. I didn't realize how much that makes an impression on your dining experience. The restaurant is upscale with sophisticated atmosphere. Everything I ordered was delicious and expertly crafted. My favorite of the evening was the lobster laksa!

What is the dress code for women?

Whatever you want it to be

Do they really open at 4pm now?

    Heck yeah

Do you still have patio seating?

No, they do not but check out their adjoining bar.

    How much is the omakase?

    $175 as of May 2024

Is social hour offered on the weekends as well?

    Yes

Is the full menu also available during happy hour?

If the question is about the food, then they have a Happy hour menu, both vegetarian or vegan and regular

    Is there outdoor seating?

No I don't believe there is sorry :(

Is there still a corking fee?

No I don't believe so but don't absolutely quote me on that! But we'll worth it I promise!

Is the happy hour till 6 or 6:30pm?

Hi Jenny. Happy hour ends at 6pm now.

Does this restaurant offer tatami floor seating?

No they don't its a more modern sushi restaurant. You might want to try Teppay

    How much is valet parking?

Its complimentary, you just have to let the valet service know that you are visiting Uchi.

I love sushi, but my partner does not. Do they have dishes available for people who don't eat raw fish or raw meat? Anything cooked that's not sushi? The menu is a bit difficult to understand.

They have many cooked items that are delicious. Not everything is raw but I wouldn't suggest Omakase "Chef's choice" because it is mostly raw

I see in curbside menu that there's Omakase for $150.... if that for one person or is that a bundle because it mentions for two?

We didn't have the Omakase curbside, but dined in. They're small plates, so the dishes will prob avg 2 pieces or so.

I noticed recent pictures of to go sushi it doesn't look good. Could they serve with ice? After all it's raw fish and ice isn't a huge overhead.

My wife and I were there tonight. Quality was excellent. As good as always. Less of a crowd as expected.… Read more

Is Uchi still offering happy hour?

Yes, Uchi is honoring their Sake Social menu everyday between 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM CT.

    How dressy is dressy attire?

Upscale casual. I wouldn't go here in shorts and flip flops, but the crowd is definitely on the dressier side. They're pretty relaxed, so a cool hipster vibe works well too.

Can someone eat at the bar without a reservation?

Yes, there are two bars, one that's geared more to drinking but you can still order food and then the sushi bar, which is where you want to be obviously. the earlier you go, the easier it is to get a good spot. You might have to wait 10-15 minutes… Read more

What time do you have to start lining up to get first or second place in the sake social line? I know it's offered from 5 to 6:30 but there's a huge line every day when I pass by! Also where in the restaurant is the best place to sit? Thanks!

Generally the wait isn't very long these days. I just went 2 Wednesdays ago, and we just happened to get there 5 minutes before opening (wasn't really trying to get there early), and we were third in line. Seated immediately.

How much is the chef's tasting menu?

The price of the tasting menus vary daily, but the 5-6 course "favorites" menu is generally $75 for two people and the 10 course omakase is about $100/pp. If you're looking to dine with a specific budget, the servers or chefs at the sushi bar can… Read more

The mapo tofu is one of the best we've had outside of Bellaire with spicy, savory, numbing, and warmth that you expect from a good mapo tofu. Crispy popcorn chicken is a classic that's spicy, lightly fried, and crisp. It has an authenticity that other places around can't replicate and makes you keep craving more. The portions are also appropriate for their price. Service is incredibly quick, and you can order as you go and receive your dish within 10-15 minutes, regardless of how busy they are. As for the ambiance, it's loud, it's hectic, and it's simple... maybe a stretch, but makes me feel like I'm eating at a mom and pop shop in the heart of China. On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

I arrived about 20 minutes before opening and had to wait outside in Houston's summer heat 93'F. While there are a few benches, there is very little shade, and guests are not allowed to wait inside. When the restaurant opened, there was no clear system for seating guests. Even though I was first in line, several people rushed in ahead of me, making the process feel disorganized. The biggest issue involved a $300 gift card that my friend had received years ago. She simply asked the staff to check the balance. When the server returned, he told us the manager had cut the card in half and that the entire balance had to be used during that visit. What bothered me was the lack of communication. We were never informed of the policy before the card was invalidated. If that is the restaurant's policy, it should be explained clearly beforehand. As two ladies having lunch, spending $300 was difficult, so we ended up ordering far more food than we normally would. The sashimi was fresh but cut thinly than what I've had at comparable restaurants. The hamachi kama, chirashi, and lobster mac and cheese were good. The green tea soufflé cheesecake was the biggest disappointment. For $10, it consisted of three very small cubes and felt overpriced. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly and professional, which helped salvage the experience. However, between the uncomfortable wait outside, the chaotic seating process, and the poor handling of the gift card, this visit did not live up to my previous experiences. While I have many good memories of Kata Robata, I'm not sure I'll be returning anytime soon.

Get the eggplant! Been obsessed with Sichuan food lately,…read moreand my friend recommended this place. I think we may have went on an off day because I have tried takeout form this place that was delicious, but on this day the food wasn't my favorite. We did overall enjoyed our experience and time and I would recommend giving this place a try! We ordered a total of 5 dishes and everything seemed very authentic to Sichuan cooking. With Sichuan cuisine though, a lot of the food will be on the oily side, so keep that in mind. - Eggplant In Spicy Sauce (5/5): Definitely order this dish! You can tell the eggplant was prepared well because it retained its beautiful purple color and luscious shape. The flavor was sweet and savory seeped well into the eggplant. My only comment would be that there wasn't a strong garlic flavor, but it was still so tasty I think it deserved that 5/5! - Mapo Tofu (2.5/5): I came here specifically for the mapo tofu but was left a bit disappointed. The flavor was pretty good and had that strong Sichuan pepper spice that lingers after a while. My issue with the tofu was the consistency of the sauce. I found it to be very thick and clumpy in an unpleasant way, almost like eating little gelatin pieces. I would probably come back to try it again just in case this was a bad batch, but it's hard to compete with wanna boa's mapo tofu. - Spicy and Crispy Chicken (4/5): Pretty juicy and crispy chicken with a slight kick. I love anything fried chicken so I did enjoy this dish but it was pretty standard and there wasn't much to write about. - Red Oil Dumplings (3/5): Pretty standard oil dumplings. They weren't really spicy which would be good for people who can't handle spice. I think I would've liked a bit more meat filling but overall not bad. - Dan Dan Noodles (3/5): I loved the texture of the noodles but I found the sauce to be kinda slippery which made it hard adhere to the noodles. I also thought the flavor could've been a bit stronger. Service/Ambiance: the interior of this place was super cute, especially the upstairs area. I loved the dim lighting and tiny table lamps which gave this place a cozy romantic feeling. The outside was also interesting with an all black exterior and no sign. That might make it hard to notice or find the restaurant, but that did give it a more hidden feeling which was nice. Parking was also abundant and service was great!

We came with a group of 18 people, and the bill ended up being around $972. Unfortunately, most of the dishes were more impressive visually than flavor-wise. The colorful green fried rice looked unique, but honestly just tasted like regular fried rice. The green beans were overcooked, so they lost the crunch and sweetness that usually make that dish enjoyable. The green curry was extremely spicy, but outside of the heat, it wasn't very memorable. The shaking beef dish looked amazing presentation-wise, but the sauce was too sweet for a savory dish, and the crispy rice pairing just didn't work well for me. I initially thought the duck dish was Peking duck, but it was actually the Jasmine Tea Smoked Duck. Even so, everyone at my table agreed we still preferred the traditional Peking duck style. The duck itself lacked flavor for us, and the skin was soft instead of having the crisp texture we were hoping for. The only dishes I genuinely enjoyed were the soup dumplings, cucumber salad, and fried dumplings. Most of the other dishes at the table were barely touched. If you're looking for colorful, aesthetically pleasing food and great presentation, you may enjoy this place. But if flavor is your main priority, this spot just wasn't for me personally.

Honestly, every dish we've ever tried here has been fantastic--it hits exactly the right spots. The Flavor Profile: A quick heads-up for those seeking "authentic" traditional Chinese--this isn't it. This is the Indianized version of Chinese food (Indo-Chinese), so prepare for bold spices and a serious kick. If you grew up loving those specific flavors, Monk's is the gold standard. The Verdict: The heat is on point, the portions are great, and the flavors are nostalgic and bold. It's the kind of meal we look forward to all the way down I-10. I walked in and the spices were spicing so much so that I started sneezing. I asked if maybe the dining area was through some door, but no there is no dine in. It's a small space with a register and seats to wait for your order or you can wait in your car. Food: 4/5 Chicken Tikka Masala it was creamy and velvety, I'm not a big fan of tomato but know is a core part of it, which I did distinguish the taste in this order that I haven't usually tasted in others. The garlic naan had good flavor however it was a bit tough and crunchy when biting into it. Which wasn't my favorite, but got the job done to dip into the sauce.
