For VidCon there were tons of food trucks and options available for food. All of the security staff and event staff were super helpful, informative and very friendly. Bummer because this was our 9 year wedding anniversary trip - so definitely disappointed by status not accounting for anything. Cons summary: - No Elite Room Upgrades: Despite three better rooms showing availability, no upgrade was given. Staff noted that upgrades are rarely granted during the summer season even if showing available online. That they usually only offer upgrades during spring if you have status (which was shocking that this was his response since it goes to show that status doesn't mean anything at this hotel and people spend a lot of money to get to status) - Poor Late Check-Out Policy: Late check-out was capped at 12:00 PM and not guaranteed, compared to the reliable 4:00 PM late checkout they typically receive with Marriott. - Underwhelming Highest Elite Status: Holding top-tier IHG Diamond status felt unrewarding and ineffective compared to Marriott Platinum/ Titanium. Zero perks given and seemed that this was common / more of a rarity. - Unresponsive Customer Text Chat: The hotel's text message system failed to reply even after 24 hours, and the app lacks a built-in live chat feature. Pros: - Clean & Modern: The guest rooms were clean and the hotel facilities appeared new and well-maintained. - Customer service: woman at the front was very kind and accommodating - and checked us in early which was a huge help since we had two crazy kids and a cranky one year old. She had a really sweet demeanor which is always great to walk into. With that said, the Asian man at the front didn't even try to act like he was seeing if upgrades were available with my status. The answer was an automatic no, that they don't do upgrades during summer because it's busy season. (From a customer service perspective, he should've at least pretended to check if someone had the highest status, to see if he could "pretend to squeeze them in." While this is an EQ move, even pretending to be happy that someone has status at your hotel makes them feel better. At Marriott they always thanked me for my hotel loyalty, again very different experience, so was super bummed because I had high expectations and was looking forward to this property since it had high reviews)

The only thing that I can think about that is negative about this hall is that there is a dead spot on the stage where the sound simply does not project. If you are performing here, make sure that you know where that spot is, and always have someone sitting in the audience seats to make sure that you can be heard at all times.

I'm not even a Ducks fan so I think I was ruined by getting such great seats. I can't really speak to the food because I just bought beer the last time I was here. I've also recently come here specifically to see 'Stars on Ice' which included some of our greatest Winter Olympians - past and present. When I recently visited, they were going through some renovation so it affected the logistics a bit, but they were still pretty organized. The folks selling the beverages were super friendly and it was pretty easy finding my section/ seat. Getting to see some of our great Olympians was just so fun and the energy from the crowd was electric. Getting to see Alyssa Liu's viral routine and the Blade Angels performing their K-pop Demon Hunters routine was special.

Parking is for a fee and not fun, but you will get a space. The place is cute and clean and it is not so huge that are a ton of bad seats. Most of the seats are great and the sound system is wonderful. The food is fine, it is not great, but it is exactly what you will find at another venue like this. The lines can be long and they need more staff, but it is fine. We always pick this venue over any stadium. You will be happy and safe here.

Standard Marriott amenities, a special shout out to two: complimentary parking and breakfast. Breakfasts were a step above normal Fairfield Inn standards, with additional food & juices. Needed a location a little closer to Long Beach because I was going to the annual Scuba Show at the LB Convention Center that weekend, and this Fairfield Inn fit the bill. Drives in the morning to Long Beach on the weekend were about 20 minutes. Rates were reasonable. About the only hiccup was a refused delivery for something I ordered on-line. Didn't ask, but assumed it was a prohibition against personal deliveries. Still very enjoyable, and one to keep in mind when my travels bring me back to North Orange County. Repeat and recommend!

That said - the start and end of my trip were where the biggest issues came up, sadly - so it wasn't a perfect stay. Check-in is at 3pm, I arrive a little early and dutifully wait until 3pm to check-in. I was initially told that housekeeping hasn't cleaned my room yet. Okay, no worries, I'll just work on my laptop in their lobby. Checked up with them at 3:30 - no room yet, 4pm - no room yet. 4:30 - by now, one of the front desk clerks appeared annoyed. Why was she annoyed? I'm the one without a room. Hotels have check-in policy at 3pm and don't honor it - yet give you trouble if you request late checkout beyond 11am. I didn't get my room keys until closer to 5pm. The mean FDA must've gone on break, because a much friendlier agent helped check me in. I didn't book third party/OTA either - I booked directly on the Marriott site. The room itself was spacious - I had a King Suite - which is a bit bigger than their standard rooms - with an additional couch and workdesk. This FF is nice in that you have both a microwave and mini-fridge. A bathroom that actually has a door that closes (unlike the newer trends that lean towards sliding doors/unlocking doors/glass partitions). There are USB outlets throughout your room - placed next to the bed - on both sides. My room had two flat panel TVs - but I didn't use either of them. There were plenty of lights - but not in the right spots. The workdesk was a bit dark in the evening. There is no in-room safe. View opened up to the neighboring plaza - which is fine, since you're in the middle of a commercial corridor. Despite facing Los Alamitos Blvd. (the main thoroughfare adjacent to the hotel), road noise was minimal. One plus that this FF has is the doors don't slam. They are all equipped with mechanisms that prevent accidental slamming. I could hear my neighbors - but muffled, rather than full-on conversations - so sound insulation between the rooms is acceptable. Free parking is another plus - something that a lot of hotels are moving towards charging for parking these days. The lot is secure and well-lit. Someone posted about non-functional internet. I was able to connect to Marriott wifi fine as a Rewards member - but the download/upload speeds were pretty sad - 4MBps. Luckily, I travel with a hotspot since work requires secure connections - so I switched to my personal wifi network promptly. Complimentary breakfast was above average - you have your usual oatmeal and cereal bar, waffle station, coffee, Yoohoos, juice, Greek yogurt. The hot foods changed daily - my first time there was crustless quiche and hard boiled eggs. Second time there was bacon and cage-free whites. If you're bored of this food, there's a coffee shop (Local Grind) across the street that sells yummy pastries and coffee (check out my review for them)! The other flaw/downside that I experienced on my visit was on checkout day - the AC never cycled on, despite the number of times I tried to start it. The AC is a wall unit - and you can hear the compressor cycling on with a distinct hum - it was present the day I checked in, my second day, but absent my third day (checkout day). The only thing running was the fan. Not sure if this is just a dirty tactic the hotel does (switch off the AC) to shoo guests out faster - but the room temperature uncomfortably rose as the morning went by. This was during a heatwave too. It was up to 77 (with high humidity) by the time I decided to check out well before 11am. I've never stayed at a hotel (and I've stayed at many) where the AC compressor stops working on the morning of checkout. Disappointing and dirty tactic.

Not only that, all proceeds go to the church. I was delighted to support this event and try something new as I've developed a new appreciation for Greek and Mediterranean food. There was a great array of options including gyros, gyro bowls, chicken, lamb and beef combo plates, feta fries, Greek salad, Greek pastries and coffee drinks. The festival also included a micro brewery and cocktail bar. There was something for everyone. There were fun things to do like tour the church, a Greek market, vendors, a kids zone and live music/dancing. It was a lowkey Friday night event that I thoroughly enjoyed with my family and friends!
