My mom has a complicated case and he has helped immensely with solid advice. It's hard to find docotors in Los Angeles who are honest. This docotor is wonderful at what he does but he really goes above and beyond, takes the extra time and cares from the heart. He is very patient and detailed. As a new patient, I went in for a general cleaning. The office was small but neat and clean. The receptionist was very kind and welcoming. Unlike my previous experiences with other dental offices, I was called in right on my scheduled time. Dr. Charng was professional and detailed in explaining the conditions of my teeth. I went again in February to clean my teeth and took e-ray for all teeth. I was informed that it is fine, but I feel plaque is still there. 4/27 I had bad tooth ache, I went to see him 5/1. Dr. Charng told me to do root canal. But previous x-ray showed nothing wrong. My insurance is Delta and he treated me as Medical patient. I went to get second opinion, the dentist spent time to clean my infected area and gave me antibiotic, and informed me if it doesn't help, I may see gum specialist. I used to go see Dr. Charng in West Covina before he started his own practice. Thank goodness I have found his personal office! Dr. Charng is by far one of the best dentists around! He is extremely personable, friendly, and patient. He is very thorough with his exam, and he is really straightforward and honest with the work he recommends. I feel very comfortable and at ease with his work. He always explains the process of the procedure as it is happening, and he makes sure I understand, which I greatly appreciated. I booked through their online system and not only did Dr. Charng's office get back to me within an hour, they got me a Saturday appointment! Dr. Charng was professional, courteous and calm. I'm not the best patient when it comes to scheduling a yearly dental cleaning because I am deathly afraid of the dentist. I've had lots of bad experiences before; the roughness from the dentists, sights of the equipments, and the scary noises from the equipments aren't really ideal for me. I've been looking for a new dentist for awhile. Good doctors are really hard to come by. I wanted to make sure I was going to a honest, patient, and reputable dentist. I was referred to Steven. He owns his own office in Arcadia. I have been waiting and putting my teeth cleaning off for way too long that I decided to finally make an appointment. Most dental offices were packed and/or couldn't take me the day of. I only needed and wanted a teeth cleaning. However, Terri (front desk) and Steven took me right in! Thank you Terri for your hospitality and making me feel right at home when I first stepped in. The parking lot is ample and spacious. The entire staff was so welcoming and friendly. The office was tidy, modern, and well kept! He has updated technologies and equipments. His dental hygienist, Mikki (Mickey?) was sweet and gentle with me when it came to taking X-rays. I have a super sensitive gag reflex and kept messing up. I felt bad because she had to do a couple of tries. She was able to manage, still have a smile on her face, and be patient with me. Afterwards, Steven introduced himself and explained / showed me my X-rays on his laptop. In the end I received a dental cleaning and fixed a small cavity that was found upon the X-rays. He was able to get everything done in one day! During the process, he would explain step by step what was going to happen next. He was so kind, gentle, and extremely patient. He answered all my questions and was very thorough in his work. He demonstrated how I should be flossing and brushing my teeth correctly. Guess the entire time I was brushing incorrectly and brushed too hard. At the end of our session, he gifted me a toothbrush. :) Steven did a phenomenal job from beginning to end! So... I'm going to be honest here. I haven't been to the dentist in... when did I get married, 3 years ago... okay, so two years before that. Five years. Possibly longer, because my family dentist (who my entire family has seen for years, YEARS) is all the way in Hacienda Heights and I live in Monrovia now. So, I am not driving through traffic for that. Fortunately, my friend told me about her dentist was that actually close to me that recently opened. I was like... 1. Does he take Kaiser's Delta plan? 2. Just HOW close is he? 1. Yes. 2. He's at the border of Monrovia and Arcadia! I'M AT THE BORDER OF MONROVIA AND ARCADIA. Okay... I made an appointment and the receptionist was SO FRIENDLY. She was so accommodating to my schedule (I only require EARLY mornings) and she was able to find me an appointment to just do a check up and X-rays. Again... I told her it's been a long time since I've seen a dentist. I will have a lot of problems. I mean, I do brush often and floss, but not like CRAZY obsessively. Who has time to carefully floss after every meal?!?! Anyways, the receptionist was wonderful and I went in and got my x-rays done. It's ALL DIGITAL NOW. Okay, this shows you how long it's been since I've seen a dentist. All that stuff that they used to do... IT'S DIGITAL NOW. I feel like an old lady who just found out how to use Facebook. So the tech was able to do all my scans and then the doctor came in and looked at the X-Rays and at my teeth. Such a NICE guy. Young, which is great because it popped in my head - I could have this guy as my family dentist for YEARS. My future child (not pregnant) will be able to see this guy cuz he won't be retiring anytime soon! Dr. Charng was very professional. He wanted to show me my X-Rays and explained what he saw. He took photos of my mouth - even though I said "Nah, I trust you, man." He still wanted to show me to understand. So... thank goodness I didn't need a root canal. BUT I did have cavities and needed a deep cleaning - not that bad. My hygiene is fine, thank you very much. So I made another appointment with him... had to make two because i have to clean one side and then the next week another side. DON'T JUDGE ME. Dr. C did not judge me for that. He says it happens. HAHAHA. I love how chill he is. So I go into my deep cleaning and they have to give me stuff to numb my mouth to clean my gums... and it was completely fine. I am usually scared of needles, but OMG. Dr. Charng was like a wizard cuz I didn't see the needle and because he numbed me with this swab, I barely felt the needle. Then he went away at my teeth cleaning and seriously... he was flawless. He didn't rush me at all. Cleaning my teeth and doing the cavities took about two hours - WHICH I AM SO THANKFUL for cuz he didn't rush me. So I know he did a good job. When he did my fillings, he kept filing it down until I felt comfortable. Every time he did it, he'd stop and go, "How does that feel" and I'd say No. Then he'd do it again. And I have to tell you... this guy has the patience of a saint because I am a talkative person who likes to joke around during sessions... so yes, I'm THAT patient. He would just laugh and explain things to me, cuz I was like a child asking "What does that do? What does this do?" BECAUSE... I haven't seen a dentist in SO long. When my face was numb, I sang "I can't feel my face when I'm with you..." I don't think he heard it, but it was stuck in my head. Seriously, patience of a saint. He did a great job. Although I am sore as heck because it's been a long ass time since I've been to the dentist, it feels so clean and really good. I now have a doctor to go to that is local and really good. The guy didn't try to shortchange me or try to sell me products or any of that shady stuff. This shall be my family dentist, where I make my husband and future child come here... and then their future child... if they stay in SGV, of course... and until he retires. Also, his staff is awesome. The receptionist called me to let me know about earlier appointments and my coverage for dental. Seriously, GRADE A service. The tech was so nice too. We got along talking about Beyonce. YASSSS. PARKING: Guys... this parking lot is HUGE. You can throw parties back there. So it will fit tons of cars. And FREE parking... Guys... it's also across the street from the 99 Cents Only Store. What?! So if you're waiting for someone getting their teeth checked or cleaned, you can just go there to waste time! For the first time in years I am smiling after a dentist appointment. This was my first visit to Dr. Charng and it was one of the best dental experiences I've had. My teeth aren't in the best shape; I suffered from a severe eating disorder in my teens and twenties that left lasting damage on my teeth. I've had quite a bit of work done over the years but the costs became overwhelming. My main concern lately has been my front top teeth chipping away. They were sharp and jagged and honestly drove me crazy. The last dentist I saw told me I needed $35,000 worth of work done and he refused to do any work on the chips I wanted to fix until I purchased Invisalign. I noticed the positive reviews of Dr. Charng and I'm so happy I went to him. The receptionist and dental assistant were very friendly and kind and made me feel comfortable. Within one hour (and no wait) I received a full set of x-rays, an exam, and had three teeth beautifully built up and smoothed and was pleasantly surprised by how affordable it was. Dr. Charng is one of the few good dentist left in the field. He is very kind, gentle when it comes to getting local anesthetic. I could write a whole book of nothing but positive things to say about him and his staff. The parking is amazing and his office has a warm welcoming feeling to it. Very clean inside and outside and his dental chairs are extremely comfortable. I accidentally fell into a good deep sleep when he was working on me. That was a bit embarrassing but he didn't mind at all. Dr. Charng explains ones treatment plan in full detail leaving one with no questions to ask. He did ask if I had any questions but when someone literally breaks down ones treatment plan to the littlest detail and educate one to prevent future problems what's left to ask. Again highly recommend dentist that I was recommended by a close friend. I hope this review helps anyone who is is looking for a dentist who is not scary and that is not going to rip them off.
