    Closure notice

We were loyal customers for years and ate here at least twice a week. In May 2026, when the restaurant was closed, I was told it was due to a broken pipe/plumbing issue, so we returned shortly after they reopened. A few days ago I saw the official Santa Clara County health closure notice posted on their front door. I took a photo of the notice, scanned the QR code, and read the county inspection reports. I was absolutely horrified by what I found. According to the official Santa Clara County inspection records: * September 2024: Routine inspection resulted in a Conditional Pass with violations requiring follow-up. * September 2025: The restaurant was closed by the county for critical health violations, including food being subject to contamination from vermin. * May 13, 2026: The restaurant was closed again for vermin-related health violations. The county conducted multiple follow-up inspections on May 15, May 19, May 22, and May 26, and the restaurant remained closed until May 28, 2026. * July 28, 2026: The restaurant was closed again. The official inspection report documented a cockroach infestation, including more than 30+ live cockroaches observed in just one area, along with food being subject to contamination from vermin and food-contact surfaces/equipment not being protected from contamination. A follow-up inspection on July 31 still did not clear the restaurant to reopen. As someone who trusted this restaurant, ate there regularly, and brought my children there, I feel deeply disappointed and misled. Had I known the actual reason for the May closure, I never would have brought my family back so soon after reopening. I am sharing the photo I took of the official county closure notice posted on the door. The notice includes a QR code linking directly to the county inspection report. Please don't just take my word for it--scan the QR code, read the official reports yourself, and make your own informed decision. I only wish I had known this history before continuing to eat here.

    Johnny Luv roll 5/5

I popped in for lunch today. I didn't have a huge appetite but I was craving sushi and wanted a roll or two to go and this place hit the spot! I was greeted upon entry and service was prompt. There were a couple other diners that seemed to be regulars and upon seating, they were served miso soup and edamame. I definitely need to come back for the full dining experience, all the rolls people ordered looked super delicious. The layout is bright, clean and modern with about 4 dining tables, it's a small cozy spot with a sushi bar in the middle. After picking up my order I was impressed with the presentation even with a to go order. I ordered the Las Vegas roll, it was fresh and tasty! It was creamy, crunchy and had colorful bits of tobiko, soft shell crab and cream cheese. I also ordered the Johnny Luv baked roll, warm and delicous, it was a yummy California roll topped with scallops. Everything was 5/5 and I would order this again.

We had lunch here for the first time in over five years, TGI use to be one of our favorite sushi spots. The place is still casual and cozy, everything look almost exactly the same as before the fire. Four of us shared a sushi lunch, a sashimi lunch, a salmon lover roll, a country girl roll and a grilled hamachi kama. We all enjoyed the sashimi, rolls and grilled Kama a lot. The sushi lunch was our least favorite which I wouldn't order again. We are happy to have rediscovered TGI and glad that they still offered quality at reasonable prices. We shall return.

Service takes a while since there were many tables before us and there were about 2 chefs making dishes. Cute comfy restaurant. The rice is a little on the heavier side, especially at the end of the rolls. The fish do taste fresh and the presentation is nice. Great place for those with a big appetite.

This place is just okay. Will satisfy your sushi craving but won't blow you away. However, they do give you complementary edamame and miso soup with your meal! Spicy rainbow roll 3.5/5: Standard. The spicy tuna is good and I liked the variety of fish on top. Crispy sushi rice 2/5: The ratio of rice to spicy tuna is way off. The rice was also rock solid. Disappointing dish and would skip next time.

Got to the place at the beginning of the service rush. The place is small and saw a lot of people ordered to go. I heard the server tell someone wait time for to go is 1 hour. Luckily got one a few last spots at the bar. Service to sit, water, and got water pretty quick. We were served complimentary miso soup which was good and a small bowl of edamame. We waited some time and then the chicken karage came out. It was well fried but had no flavor. It could have used a little sprinkle of salt at the least. Dipped it in some sort of sweet dark thick sauce for some flavor. We waited quite awhile for the sushi to arrive. I noticed when we first got there there was only 2 people preparing the sushi at the bar and while waiting for the sushi a third person came to help. Sure that helped the other tables waiting for their order; just too bad help didn't come sooner to shorten my wait. The 3 sushi rolls we ordered were well prepared. Everything tasted good except I am not sure about the 1 piece of calamari. The texture I noticed was a little slimy which was very odd. I hope it was one off. The prices are ok. The menu is huge. I would come back for take out, but not in a rush.

Hands down one of the best sushi places I've been to in a while. Upon entering our party of 4 was immediately welcomed, seated and served complimentary edamame and miso soup. The edamame was warm and lightly salted and the Miso soup was a flavorful warm broth with tofu and seaweed. These large sushi rolls are beautifully made and are satisfyingly delicious with great flavor. Overall the quality of the sushi is extremely fresh with nicely seasoned sushi rice and good quality fish. The dining room is small, warm & cozy with sushi bar seating for ~8 ppl and table seating for ~20.

These new owners are going to fail great customers will look elsewhere. I have been going there for many years. Terrible service.

Such bad service, I called a couple minutes before 4:30 would not take my order even though they were open for service. I was in parking lot wanted to be respectful as I had been gardening I didn't want to sit inside. Called at 4:30 gave my order asked for extra light rice on one roll she confirmed. Told me 20 minutes ask her to please let me know I was in the car right in front of the door or she could call me. I waited and went in 18 minutes and she said it was first one ready. She had absolutely zero patrons and it had been ready for over 10 minutes. And couldn't waive out the door to let me know it was ready and extra light rice on my roll was not done.

A GF and I wanted to get sushi but somewhere that opened earlier than 5 pm. So I found TGI Sushi down the street from our regular place. This place was small but cozy. We got there right around 4:30 pm, so it wasn't busy yet. The service was great. It turns out that one of the servers recognized my friend from another restaurant, who was very attentive. Of course, we started off with sake and ordered garlic edamame and a couple of rolls. This is a new place of ours!

The place is small, but don't let that push you away the service is fast. The food is great I've been here a few times and it's a great place to grab some sushi at a reasonable price.

    Sweet Suzy Roll

Been coming here for years. My old favorite was the baked scallop roll. My new favorite is the hamachi crudo and tartar. Last night I tried the sweet Suzy too and really enjoyed the sweet roll. They gave us all miso soup and a bowl of edemame to share. It's a small place but we had no issues getting a table on a Tuesday. We did a lot of to go during Covid. Never had an issues with wrong orders and even got a free item once. The yellowtail crudo had nice thick cuts and so much flavor. Agedashi tofu was just ok. It's pretty and they serve everything separate so you can put what you want in it. Not sure we would order it again. Not a cheap dinner for 4 but I always love coming here at a nice treat!

Look at their health inspection reports and STAY AWAY. They do not have a good track record of running a sanitary place of business.

Are the nigiri slices the correct rice to fish ratio like how japan does it or is the super large cuts of fish?

I am not sure if they are correct rice to fish ratio. Some days the slices are larger than others.

Anywho, we ordered a variety of items to try: new stamina don, clam chowder croquette, kani chirashi bento, and a salmon kama bento. Regarding the food: New stamina don came with slice beef, sliced beef tongue, braised pork, poached egg, and kimchi over rice. The sliced beef was cooked to rare, and the braised pork was very tender. The rice also came with the poached egg, kewpie mayo and a lemon, mixing it all together with the rice made it have a nice creamy flavor. Clam chowder croquette was something I have never heard of before, so I definitely wanted to try it. This was delicious, would definitely get it again. A fried crispy croquette with clam chowder in it but also some mashed potatoes and tonkotsu sauce on top. Kani chirashi bento had snow crab, fish roe over rice, rolled egg omelette, sashimi, fried boneless chicken, and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The sashimi came with 4 pieces, 2 tuna and 2 salmon. the tuna was a little fishy but the soy sauce helped. The salmon was actually pretty good - good fattiness. The fried chicken was fine, a few pieces were dry. Overall this bento was good. Salmon Kama bento is salmon collar over rice, fried boneless chicken, takoyaki and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The salmon collar needed some salt in my opinion. For the food overall, it was a little bit under seasoned for me but for portion, price and quality are good.

The restaurant was pretty full so not sure how long it would take if we waited. The restaurant is inside a plaza with some other stores and restaurants but there was plenty of space even in the evening. They have a happy hour menu from 7 to 10 pm on Saturdays, but they differ depending on the day. They have some appetizers and drinks on the happy hour menu, so we tried the gyoza, mochi and side tempura. The mochi had a house made sauce glaze that was sweet and salty, and came with nori as a wrap. The texture of the mochi was really soft and chewy. The gyoza were really crispy with a soft interior. We ended up ordering a second round of them. The tempura was nicely fried with not too much batter. The shrimp was really succulent and I liked that they have mushroom tempura too. From their regular menu, we ordered a bunch of food. I tried the yaki-onigiri ochazuke with salmon, fried chicken skin, the eggplant and various skewers. The fried chicken skin was really nice and crispy, and came with a ponzu sauce and mayo to dip in. The yaki onigiri was nicely grilled and still had crispy bits when submerged in the soup. I was really excited that they have shishamo/smelt. It was nicely roasted and didn't have any overtly fishy flavor. Everyone at my table really enjoyed their food. I'd definitely come back here to try their other dishes!

Everything was simply prepared, properly cooked, and excellent. The squid was beautifully charred, the sausages were plump and blistered, and the shrimp were exceptionally crisp. We washed it all down with a bottle of chilled junmai sake. A nice touch: they bring over a basket filled with mismatched ceramic and glass sake cups so everyone can choose their own. Excellent food, comfortable atmosphere, and a welcome reminder that Japanese cuisine offers much more than sushi and ramen.

My dad immediately lowered the volume without any issue. After that, we noticed the owner repeatedly looking at us and speaking to the waiter about the situation. Feeling uncomfortable, my dad asked if everything was okay. The owner's response was unexpectedly rude and confrontational. He aggressively told my dad to turn off the phone, even though the volume had already been lowered and my dad was complying. The interaction felt hostile and intimidating.
