It's been almost a year since I last ate at Kaizen. Had a bento box delivered for lunch today and I have mixed feelings about the food. The three items I ordered for the bento box were teriyaki chicken, gyoza, and mixed tempura. It also came with rice, miso soup, and salad. I didn't care for the teriyaki chicken at all. The sauce didn't taste good to me and the chicken pieces were tough with too many ligaments. The gyoza was excellent, but the container of dipping sauce held about two drops. Last year I mentioned in my review that the dipping sauce container was only half full. If anyone from Kaizen is reading this, please, for the love of God, fill the container 100% and make sure the lid is snapped on tightly. The pieces of mixed tempura on the top of the box tasted good, but the ones on the bottom were soggy. Not sure if there is a way to avoid this in delivery packaging because it's pretty common. The miso soup and salad were very good. I love the salad dressing that comes with it. Sad to say I probably won't be back. I've been eating at Kaizen for over 15 years, starting with a previous owner who served wonderful food.

This is (1) of my (2) favorite sushi spots in SJ. Ever since they got new owners, the customer service here has been amazing. I ordered frequently from them whether it'll be delivery, pick up, or dine-in. Their portions are good, food is always fresh, and prices match quality without burning a hole in your pockets. I appreciate that they have lunch pricing, along with dinner pricing and during lunch you can choose between the lunch portion or the dinner portion. Service here is also quick, but you can still taste the quality. They do also have a special for hot sake, dine-in only, for $1.99. I appreciate that when you order hot tea for the table it comes in a kettle and they bring as many cups to you as there are people seated. They also quickly refill your water and make table touch quite often. This place is not very loud, but it's also not quiet. When you come in, everyone says hello to you and it feels very welcoming. Overall, this place is very clean. However, I have yet to use their restroom. Parking is no problem here as there are a lot of places to park.

Went here on a date night with my boyfriend and had such a nice time! This restaurant is in a little plaza with a good amount of parking. We've been here a few times, and we've never had an issue before. The servers here are always nice and kind, and will always greet those that come in! It's very welcoming there, and they're always happy to see you :) Food here is always delicious! We like to start our meal with some miso soup, but they also give you a complimentary cucumber dish which is savory and refreshing. Today we had the tarantula roll, salmon nigiri, and tuna nigiri. The tarantula roll was a mix of texture with the soft shell crab inside. It was very yummy! The fish on nigiri was very fresh and good. They also gave us agedashi tofu on the house today! It was a fun experience to try it out, as we've never had it before. It was warm and yummy and we might get it the next time we're there! Overall, love it here!

Kaizen Sushi in Campbell has become my go-to lunch spot, especially when I'm doing to-go. I've been craving sushi lately and it has been a perfect place to go. They have an amazing lunch deal that I love on DoorDash or Grubhub. I usually get the Red Mango roll, and it never disappoints. The salmon sashimi pieces are huge and super fresh. It's super filling which is perfect for a busy day. Highly recommend if you're in the area or if you just love mango rolls.

Nice Sunday lunch here! My so. And I ordered sushi lunch specials. His sushi lunch included some of the best hamachi we've tasted in a long time. Both of our plates included buttery toro-like maguro. My son-in law was surprised at the size of his rainbow and spicy something-or-other rolls. As always, the service was terrific!

Food was hot, fresh and delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Pretty quiet for a fairly small restaurant. Great neighborhood find.

My boyfriend and I frequent here and the service/staff is always so lovely even when they're slammed on a busy weekend night :') the food is great and we wanted to be baller last night and get the Rock Salt Toro. Best and fattiest Tuna I've had in the states since my trip to Japan!!!

I came with a group of friends - one of whom has a shellfish allergy. The staff was accommodating and overall, the food was good. We were seated right away when we walked in and got to choose where we wanted to sit as there was a section that was pretty clear. Our waitress gave us some time to look through the menu and we made our selections. My friend told the staff that he had a shellfish allergy and then the staff member conveyed this to the chefs to make sure his food didn't touch any shellfish. Complimentary miso soup came out and we enjoyed the warmth it provided while waiting for our meal. Appetizers came out first - garlic edamame and corn tempura. The edamame was good, but the corn tempura was awesome. I didn't really care for the pepper on top, but I loved the crispiness and corn flavor! The portion was also bigger than I had anticipated and we ended up not finishing it. One of my friend and I shared some rolls - Destiny, Double Double and Ironman. Out of all three, my favorite was the Destiny roll while my friend preferred the Double Double. While Ironman was good, there was nothing noticeable or outstanding about it. The three rolls were enough to stuff us and by the end, I almost didn't make it (hence leaving some of the corn tempura). My other friend said his food was okay, but his fish was overcooked and the cream cheese in his rolls were warm. He did, however, like his fresh wasabi, ginger and the edamame. They also have an oyster special going on at the moment - $1.50 per raw oyster - Mon-Thurs. None of us like oysters, so we didn't get any. Overall, I would come back again and try some of the other rolls... as well as get the corn tempura again.

Beautiful fresh sushi served with unique flavors. Quick, friendly service in relaxing and serene setting. Our favorite was Sweet Fantasy roll with balsamic vinegar, but so delicious we didn't get a pic before it was gone. Definitely great sushi

***4.5 stars*** I was initially a bit skeptical due to the 3.7 overall rating but this restaurant exceeded my expectations. Came by on a Saturday evening around 6:30pm and it didn't get too crowded until around 7-7:30pm. Not a huge restaurant, seating available at tables and at the sushi bar. My friend and I shared a 2-item bento box with beef teriyaki and mixed tempura, the Red Mango roll, and the Salmon Delight roll. Bento box comes with rice, miso soup, and salad. Food came out extremely quickly. Employees were super friendly too! Both rolls came less than 5 mins after ordering and bento box followed shortly after. Red Mango roll was on the heavier side with large pieces of sushi and loads of flavor. I'd go with this one if I was super hungry and could only choose 1 roll and I wanted something heavier and filling. Salmon Delight was so delicious! It was lighter, and the salmon pieces were thick and so fresh. Very filling as well. Personally, I liked the Salmon Delight better between the two, but both were great. Although I will say the capers on the Salmon Delight roll were not necessary in my opinion. Bento was pretty standard, I would probably stick with their sushi rolls if I come back. Beef teriyaki wasn't that tender and it was more on the dry side. Salad was good and I loved the sweet, creamy dressing on top. Value for the meal was pretty good too - overall I'd return here in the future!

My family came here for dinner and had an awesome meal! We got several rolls, the curry chicken katsu, and a sashimi dinner. Everything was delicious and fresh, and the service was great! The staff were attentive and so kind and made sure we were happy with everything we ordered. This is one of my family's favorite neighborhood spots, and I look forward to coming when I visit.

Three item bento: Shrimp tempura, salmon sashimi (3), California roll

Came here on 03/30/24 for lunch at 11:45am with a friend. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a bunch of flies at the doorway, which as extremely unpleasant. We were seated immediately only cuz the resultant only had three groups of people eating. The server was nice.. there was only one. -1 We ordered the three-item bento (~$20) for lunch which includes a small bowl of soup, salad, and rice. I ordered the salmon sashimi, California roll, and shrimp tempura. The soup was decent, a little watery, and barely any tofu with two pieces of seaweed. The salad was so wet, not worth it. The dressing doesn't stay on. The shrimp tempura looked so good, but on the first bite, all I got was.... batter... The shrimp was so tiny. I guess they tried to make it up with the batter? Salmon sashimi came in three pretty thick slices. It had a nice marbling too. Lastly the California roll, it was the best out of everything in the bento. -2 My friend had teriyaki chicken in his bento and it was really good. It was a nice chunky, juicy piece and still had some bones in it. Overall, it is not worth coming here for sushi. I may try it one more time, just cuz my friend loved this place. Well, they need to fix the fly problem first. It is never nice to be treated by a bunch of flies.

Oh! I am delightfully full! The rich umami broth really sets this place apart from others. What I…read morereally like about this place is that one may customize the menu depending on dietary concerns (vegan, lactose-free, shellfish allergens etc.), but however one customizes, the quality is fort-rate. Our party consisted of family and friends who had differing dietary concerns, but we were each able to eat delicious ramen without any worries. We started out with some appetizers - the Karaage Chicken and the Umami cucumber. The chicken had a nice crunch, yet the meat was juicy and tender! Nice! I appreciate the matcha salt that came with the chicken, as it added a little extra flavor to the chicken. And the umami cucumbers were joyfully crisp, with a slightly sweet soy sauce base, the sesame seeds and the bonito flakes on top adding to the umami. I ordered the Sukiyaki Beef Ramen - something unique, and it is not listed on the colorful poster on the door, nor was it listed on the menu card on the table. It caught my eye, though, when I ordered using the QR code. I felt like this was something on a secret menu or something . . . I was in heaven! The sukiyaki beef was tender and flavorful with that sukiyaki sweetness, and it perfectly balanced the saltiness of the broth. Oh, darn! I forgot to take a photo of the bowl of ramen!! Oops! Well, as I mentioned at the start of this review, I was delightfully full at the end, especially since I just could not leave perfectly delicious broth in the bowl. Good enough to drink as a soup! I must say, however, that when this place first opened, I was not impressed. And when I ate here two years ago, I was equally unimpressed. Today, however, I am blown away! Whatever they changed really is for the better. They have found their footing and Hinodeya Ramen Bar has matured into a wonderful place for ramen.

First time coming here, I love a good ramen…read more Prices are typical for Bay Area ramen shops. A nice selection of different options, though I didn't see anything really exotic like black garlic that you see at speciality ramen places. We ordered the umami Brussel sprouts and shishito peppers as appetizers. I really enjoyed both - they were well flavored and I kept wanting to eat more. Some of the shishitos were a little odd colored though - we wondered what was up with that! They could have been grilled/roasted a little longer in some cases to get that edge-of-burnt touch, but we still very much enjoyed them. As far as the ramen itself, it was fine. As an overall meal, it was pleasing enough. Compared to all the ramen places I've been to, it was mid-tier - not disappointing, but lacked the depth of flavor and umami that makes you want to drink all the broth when you know you definitely shouldn't health-wise. The spiciness was pretty mild, I got the low sodium version, so it wasn't salty. I sampled my daughter's regular sodium (same dish) version, and it may have been a touch saltier, but the lack of flavor depth/layers wasn't just salt thing. It's like the best ramen chefs know how to create an amazing broth to die for, and most places just kind of have a typical flavor that seems to lack the magic of the best broths. So overall, a good experience, but not my go-to ramen place based on my first dining experience here.

I was craving oysters and noticed they had a happy hour, that luckily include oysters on the afternoon we were going. I'm not sure if they always have them, but noticed quite a few pictures of them, so they might be a pretty good staple on the menu. We ordered almost everything on the happy hour menu; bar nuts, oysters, salmon kebab, tuna loin, calamari, and fish ribs. Each dish was unique and well thought out. The oysters had a rhubarb vinaigrette and came with a little piece of citrus and some edible flowers, the calamari a Thai dipping sauce, and the tuna loin pieces of pineapple, chopped cashews, and a salsa. There wasn't a single boring dish in sight. We liked everything we got, but a few things stood out more than the rest. Favorites were the oysters, tuna loin, and salmon kebab. I would get most again if the menu was similar, I might skip the calamari and got for more raw dishes the next time.

Anywho, we ordered a variety of items to try: new stamina don, clam chowder croquette, kani chirashi bento, and a salmon kama bento. Regarding the food: New stamina don came with slice beef, sliced beef tongue, braised pork, poached egg, and kimchi over rice. The sliced beef was cooked to rare, and the braised pork was very tender. The rice also came with the poached egg, kewpie mayo and a lemon, mixing it all together with the rice made it have a nice creamy flavor. Clam chowder croquette was something I have never heard of before, so I definitely wanted to try it. This was delicious, would definitely get it again. A fried crispy croquette with clam chowder in it but also some mashed potatoes and tonkotsu sauce on top. Kani chirashi bento had snow crab, fish roe over rice, rolled egg omelette, sashimi, fried boneless chicken, and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The sashimi came with 4 pieces, 2 tuna and 2 salmon. the tuna was a little fishy but the soy sauce helped. The salmon was actually pretty good - good fattiness. The fried chicken was fine, a few pieces were dry. Overall this bento was good. Salmon Kama bento is salmon collar over rice, fried boneless chicken, takoyaki and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The salmon collar needed some salt in my opinion. I'll admit it might have just been the specific dishes we ordered, but the food overall missed the mark. On a positive note, the service was incredibly fast and the staff was very nice! However, the food left a lot to be desired. We got the wagyu beef plate, and the meat was unfortunately chewy and heavily over-salted. We also ordered the seared salmon ikura bowl, which wasn't anything special and really lacked flavor. The bowl was quite dry, and I kept wishing it came with some sort of sauce to tie everything together. Even the shishito peppers were surprisingly bland. While I appreciate the great service, the food just didn't live up to the hype for me.

But after weighing the price of the all-you-can-eat vs ordering exactly what we were craving a la carte, we decided to just order off the menu, which was the smart move since it was much less expensive and we ended up full. The place is casual and a little not-fancy decor or ambiance wise. You wouldn't bring anyone here you wanted to impress. . .but the food is what's important, right? The sushi was good! The rolls were large, the options were creative, and everything was tasty and met expectations. I wouldn't say it's elevated sushi, where there are layers to the flavors and you go "wow". But you get your sushi and see the portions are a good size and are happy that you get to dig in and eat satisfying sushi. I'd come back here again, especially for casual sushi where you want good value. Service was good as well - again, nothing fancy or overly attentive, but perfectly adequate for the level of restaurant. Also, it came pretty quickly, which was a plus as well (it wasn't that crowded when we went).

3 of us came here for lunch on Saturday around noon. There're plenty of tables available inside and…read morewe got seated right away. Both decor and service were minimal. We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. I wouldn't mind coming back again to try other items on their menu when I'm in the area.
