It makes me sad to write this review because my family and I have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years. Unfortunately, our experience during our most recent visit was so disappointing that we no longer plan to return. While we were having dinner, my dad was watching a soccer game on his phone. At no point did any staff member ask us to lower the volume. After the table behind us left, our waiter politely informed us that those guests had complained about the sound and asked if we could turn it down. My dad immediately lowered the volume without any issue. After that, we noticed the owner repeatedly looking at us and speaking to the waiter about the situation. Feeling uncomfortable, my dad asked if everything was okay. The owner's response was unexpectedly rude and confrontational. He aggressively told my dad to turn off the phone, even though the volume had already been lowered and my dad was complying. The interaction felt hostile and intimidating. From that point on, we felt extremely uncomfortable. The owner continued to stare at us and discuss the situation with staff while we were trying to finish our meal. Rather than stay and enjoy the rest of our dinner, we decided to leave. In more than 10 years of dining here, we have never experienced anything like this. We understand that noise complaints can happen and would have gladly cooperated, as we already did. What was upsetting was the way the situation was handled by the owner. Long-time customers should be treated with respect, and unfortunately, that was not our experience. Because of how we were treated, we will not be returning. read more

I would avoid this restaurant. We had delivered via DoorDash. We ordered quite a few things: Chicken Karage - not edible - it was awful. The meat was not even fully cut/separated before it was breaded and fried. Looked like a big chunk of calamari. No salt, horrible breading. Bad on every level. Gyoza - undercooked but fine. Sauce was vinegar, not what I would want or expect. 49er roll - ewww. They did not take skin off unagi, it was tough and chewy and all wrong. The rolls were ridiculously cut, fish was also cut inappropriately. I would argue there is no properly trained sushi chef in this location. Also the fish was not fresh tasting. Agedashi - NOT WORTH $15.00 - 4 small pieces, no benito flakes or nori and the sauce was off, it was not the correct serving sauce. Udon - broth was fine, noodles were fine - everything else, again, not edible. They must be getting the absolute worst quality chicken - it was tough, full of gristle and not handled with care, huge inconsistent chunks, it was not appetizing. Broccoli - what Japanese restaurant uses broccoli - but it was so grossly overcooked, it was mushy as were the other weird vegetables - mushrooms and zucchini - it was weird. We ordered two other sushi rolls - that were mediocre at best. Again large in size, so portions I suppose are good, but not when you can't choke it down. I would argue this is not owned or properly trained Japanese chef works here. But for the price of what we pay, I would hope a little more care and attention would be put into preparing the food and quality needs to improve. Not a fan. read more

It's been almost a year since I last ate at Kaizen. Had a bento box delivered for lunch today and I have mixed feelings about the food. The three items I ordered for the bento box were teriyaki chicken, gyoza, and mixed tempura. It also came with rice, miso soup, and salad. I didn't care for the teriyaki chicken at all. The sauce didn't taste good to me and the chicken pieces were tough with too many ligaments. The gyoza was excellent, but the container of dipping sauce held about two drops. Last year I mentioned in my review that the dipping sauce container was only half full. If anyone from Kaizen is reading this, please, for the love of God, fill the container 100% and make sure the lid is snapped on tightly. The pieces of mixed tempura on the top of the box tasted good, but the ones on the bottom were soggy. Not sure if there is a way to avoid this in delivery packaging because it's pretty common. The miso soup and salad were very good. I love the salad dressing that comes with it. Sad to say I probably won't be back. I've been eating at Kaizen for over 15 years, starting with a previous owner who served wonderful food. read more

This is (1) of my (2) favorite sushi spots in SJ. Ever since they got new owners, the customer service here has been amazing. I ordered frequently from them whether it'll be delivery, pick up, or dine-in. Their portions are good, food is always fresh, and prices match quality without burning a hole in your pockets. I appreciate that they have lunch pricing, along with dinner pricing and during lunch you can choose between the lunch portion or the dinner portion. Service here is also quick, but you can still taste the quality. They do also have a special for hot sake, dine-in only, for $1.99. I appreciate that when you order hot tea for the table it comes in a kettle and they bring as many cups to you as there are people seated. They also quickly refill your water and make table touch quite often. This place is not very loud, but it's also not quiet. When you come in, everyone says hello to you and it feels very welcoming. Overall, this place is very clean. However, I have yet to use their restroom. Parking is no problem here as there are a lot of places to park. read more

Went here on a date night with my boyfriend and had such a nice time! This restaurant is in a little plaza with a good amount of parking. We've been here a few times, and we've never had an issue before. The servers here are always nice and kind, and will always greet those that come in! It's very welcoming there, and they're always happy to see you :) Food here is always delicious! We like to start our meal with some miso soup, but they also give you a complimentary cucumber dish which is savory and refreshing. Today we had the tarantula roll, salmon nigiri, and tuna nigiri. The tarantula roll was a mix of texture with the soft shell crab inside. It was very yummy! The fish on nigiri was very fresh and good. They also gave us agedashi tofu on the house today! Really enjoyed my lunch here! The miso soup was delicious and nicely balanced; not overly salty, which I always appreciate. They also started us off with a complimentary cucumber side dish, which was a refreshing little appetizer and a nice touch. The lunch prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality. The tempura was a standout- super crunchy, light, and perfect with the dipping sauce. You can tell the ingredients are very fresh, and the flavors really come through without being heavy or salty. Kaizen Sushi in Campbell has become my go-to lunch spot, especially when I'm doing to-go. I've been craving sushi lately and it has been a perfect place to go. They have an amazing lunch deal that I love on DoorDash or Grubhub. I usually get the Red Mango roll, and it never disappoints. The salmon sashimi pieces are huge and super fresh. I came with a group of friends - one of whom has a shellfish allergy. The staff was accommodating and overall, the food was good. We were seated right away when we walked in and got to choose where we wanted to sit as there was a section that was pretty clear. Our waitress gave us some time to look through the menu and we made our selections. My friend told the staff that he had a shellfish allergy and then the staff member conveyed this to the chefs to make sure his food didn't touch any shellfish. Complimentary miso soup came out and we enjoyed the warmth it provided while waiting for our meal. Appetizers came out first - garlic edamame and corn tempura. The edamame was good, but the corn tempura was awesome. I didn't really care for the pepper on top, but I loved the crispiness and corn flavor! The portion was also bigger than I had anticipated and we ended up not finishing it. One of my friend and I shared some rolls - Destiny, Double Double and Ironman. Out of all three, my favorite was the Destiny roll while my friend preferred the Double Double. While Ironman was good, there was nothing noticeable or outstanding about it. The three rolls were enough to stuff us and by the end, I almost didn't make it (hence leaving some of the corn tempura). My other friend said his food was okay, but his fish was overcooked and the cream cheese in his rolls were warm. He did, however, like his fresh wasabi, ginger and the edamame. They also have an oyster special going on at the moment - $1.50 per raw oyster - Mon-Thurs. None of us like oysters, so we didn't get any. I ordered 2 3pcs Bento Box for me and my coworker, at first it says it will be delivered by 1-1:15PM but we received our food before 1 PM! Such a quick delivery! The food is so delicious!! ***4.5 stars*** I was initially a bit skeptical due to the 3.7 overall rating but this restaurant exceeded my expectations. Came by on a Saturday evening around 6:30pm and it didn't get too crowded until around 7-7:30pm. Not a huge restaurant, seating available at tables and at the sushi bar. My friend and I shared a 2-item bento box with beef teriyaki and mixed tempura, the Red Mango roll, and the Salmon Delight roll. Bento box comes with rice, miso soup, and salad. Food came out extremely quickly. Employees were super friendly too! Both rolls came less than 5 mins after ordering and bento box followed shortly after. Red Mango roll was on the heavier side with large pieces of sushi and loads of flavor. I'd go with this one if I was super hungry and could only choose 1 roll and I wanted something heavier and filling. Salmon Delight was so delicious! It was lighter, and the salmon pieces were thick and so fresh. Very filling as well. Personally, I liked the Salmon Delight better between the two, but both were great. Although I will say the capers on the Salmon Delight roll were not necessary in my opinion. Bento was pretty standard, I would probably stick with their sushi rolls if I come back. Beef teriyaki wasn't that tender and it was more on the dry side. Salad was good and I loved the sweet, creamy dressing on top. Came here on 03/30/24 for lunch at 11:45am with a friend. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a bunch of flies at the doorway, which as extremely unpleasant. We were seated immediately only cuz the resultant only had three groups of people eating. The server was nice.. there was only one. -1 We ordered the three-item bento (~$20) for lunch which includes a small bowl of soup, salad, and rice. I ordered the salmon sashimi, California roll, and shrimp tempura. The soup was decent, a little watery, and barely any tofu with two pieces of seaweed. The salad was so wet, not worth it. The dressing doesn't stay on. The shrimp tempura looked so good, but on the first bite, all I got was.... batter... The shrimp was so tiny. I guess they tried to make it up with the batter? Salmon sashimi came in three pretty thick slices. It had a nice marbling too. Lastly the California roll, it was the best out of everything in the bento. -2 My friend had teriyaki chicken in his bento and it was really good. It was a nice chunky, juicy piece and still had some bones in it. Overall, it is not worth coming here for sushi. I may try it one more time, just cuz my friend loved this place. So here is a place I didn't even know existed. Kaizen 330 E Hamilton Ave, Ste 7, Campbell, CA 95008. I was looking for a sushi place that opened before 11:30 AM so I found this place. There are some negative reviews related to deliveries, but most were positive. I was really impressed how clean and nicely decorated the restaurant was. The young lady server was so kind and polite. She answered all of my questions about the menu and even offered suggestions. She could not have been nicer! I ordered the three item bento box which I selected included miso soup, beef teriyaki, combo tempura, California roll, salad and white rice. There were lots of other choices I could have made. The food was really good and prepared fresh. The beef was tender, the tempura had a great selection of vegetables, and the rice was soft and tender. The portions were very generous, prices were reasonable, and the green tea ice cream was WOW! The main thing I really liked was the relaxing soft piano bar style recorded music being played. At night, they play K-pop music. This is my new favorite sushi place and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant. read more

This was our first time visiting this restaurant and we will definitely be back. It is a short walk from our house and delicious. We sat at the sushi bar and had fun watching the chefs prepare the food. The service was amazing, we had two servers consistently checking in on us and offering suggestions. We were also given miso soup and a fresh orange dessert on the house. The roll had a generous amount of salmon inside of it and the sushi plate was full with fresh fish that blew us away. I wasn't a huge fan of the ikura but I have found that it is different from place to place so that was no big deal! Overall, I give this restaurant a 9/10 and we will definitely be back!! read more

This place used to be our favorite sushi place but no more. The reason why things has changed for the worse is bc the original owners has sold the business and now it's being ran by new management with lower quality foods and higher prices. Food prices has gone up. The only way restaurant can survive is raise their prices or reduce the quantity of the food. A great example is ice cream. You remember ice cream was always sold as a 1/2 gallon? Look at the weight now. Instead of 2 quarts it's now 1.5 quarts. You get less for roughly the same price. See how that works? The best thing for restaurants to do is raise prices because if you lower your quality you just lost your niche and no better than anything at a food court. I feel like Kaizen took both components and that's a recipe for disaster in the food industry. My wife ordered curry pork katsu and it was dry, bland, and barely had any curry gravy. Since it was so tasteless she had to ask for more gravy but they of course they charged an additional $2 for more cold chunky gravy. The rolls were disappointing as well. My Red Mango roll had unripened mango that was still crunchy which made the thing unenjoyable. Time to find a new favorite sushi place. read more

But the past 3 times I have gone, I have been so disappointed. The amount of fish is reduced in the roll, and I was served the fattiest part of fish. I ordered takeout through Grubhub and this is THE WORST pickup experience I have ever had. The app showed pickup time to be between 6:10-6:20pm and I walked in around 6:15pm. I asked a few times about the status of my pickup order and all I got was just grunts or a simple "they're working on it" I saw groups that came in for sit down finish their entire meal before I got my order. I ordered five rolls, which is not a big order and yet when I asked about the order again after standing there for 45 minutes they said they're still working on 3 rolls. No staff asked if I wanted to sit or have some water while I waited for 1 HOUR! No staff apologized about the delay until the very end and I kept asking about my order. I don't know how the food is but I will never ever return to this restaurant, worst experience I have ever had and I rarely feel the need to write a review. read more

Don't be fooled by the bad reviews, this is seriously a great spot for affordable sushi!! They have so many great options on the menu and the staff is extremely friendly always giving us a grilled hamachi or salmon collar on the house! The food comes out extremely quickly and I would recommend getting a spread of everything from appetizers, to sushi, to the cooked dishes too! I wish I could make this a 0 star review. I've ordered this place on door dash before but this time they completely ruined my order. It is like they had a bad fish in the back that they decided to cut up and serve. The nigiri came sneakily with the skin down but the entire bottom was skin. All of my rolls had skin on all of this fish which tasted awful. I will never be ordering from this place again. I got a full refund from door dash by submitting pictures. I suggest that you avoid this place, it seems like all they care about is money, they could care less about opinion or providing a quality product. read more

01/25/25 went there and had a great time. This place was not medium busy so it was very comfortable. Service was fast and the food was good. The interior including the restroom was clean. I ordered the beef teriyaki box and would order it again. They serve their rice with sesame seeds sprinkled on top so if you don't like them ask for it off. The salad dressing is not Miso kinda plain for me. It's not bad just different. We had a 49er roll and we all liked it. The lemon added pop to fish and cancelled out any fishy taste. I remember dining here years ago and loving every bit of my food. Going based on the same experience I brought one of my friends for their first experience on sushi and I ordered oysters for myself. The restaurant itself was clean and nice looking. The service was good but the food didn't meet expectations. Sushi was at the room temperature and had an odd smell to it, making my friend's experience an unpleasant one. The oysters tasted fishy indicating they weren't fresh. I was craving some sushi before my next appointment. Since I wasn't familiar with this area I used Yelp for suggestions. This place was super close so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. The menu has lots to choose from. I ended up ordering a bento box with ton katsu, shrimp tempura and sashimi. Everything was tasty. The sashimi were pieces of salmon. The service was good.
