My first visit to Ugly Dumpling was absolutely amazing! From the moment we sat down, our server, Emm, made us feel welcome and ensured we had an unforgettable experience. Since it was our first time, Emm took the time to explain the menu, how the kitchen operates, and helped us choose some of the restaurant's most popular dishes. Every recommendation was spot on! We enjoyed the bao buns, crispy chicken wings, ramen, and the beef soup--which was incredibly flavorful and absolutely delicious. To top it all off, the matcha ice cream was the perfect dessert and a fantastic way to end our meal. What truly made our visit special was Emily outstanding service. She checked on us throughout our meal to make sure everything was perfect and genuinely cared that we were enjoying ourselves. She also went above and beyond to make my grandson feel extra special by making sure he got the matcha ice cream he wanted, which completely made his day. We have been anxiously awaiting the opening and it was absolutely worth the wait. Everyone is super nice and very professional. The manager Joseph R. was very welcoming and extremely friendly. We stopped in for brunch on a weekday, and it was pretty quiet, which we actually enjoyed. The ambiance was cool, relaxing, and laid-back--definitely the kind of place where you can sit, eat, talk, and not feel like someone is waiting to snatch the table from underneath you. ‍ Now, let's talk food! We've eaten at quite a few dumpling spots, so the bar has been set pretty high for us. Unfortunately, the taste and overall quality here didn't quite measure up to some of the other dumpling places we've tried. It wasn't bad by any means--it just didn't have us sitting there saying, "Okay...we NEED to come back." The fried chicken dumplings were the winner for me! Easily the best thing I ordered that day. We were told the food would come out FAST--and they absolutely delivered on that promise! Everything started hitting the table quickly. The problem? Fast doesn't always mean hot. Most of our dishes arrived warm at best. And when we're talking about soup, dumplings, and especially seafood, I want to see a little steam! I'd gladly wait another 5-10 minutes if it means the food arrives piping hot. That was probably our biggest disappointment. What really saved the experience--and earned that fourth star--was the customer service. The hosts and servers were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Our server gave us some awesome recommendations, made us feel comfortable, and never once made us feel rushed. Great customer service goes a LONG way with us, and they definitely got that part right! There's also a small bar for anyone who wants to grab a drink. The location is convenient too--just a few doors down from ShopRite and around the bend from Planet Fitness in Scarsdale. Had to try out this new place with my friend. decided to visit for monday lunch and sat in a booth. The place is huge and well decorated. we tried the braised beef noodle soup, the ugly ramen, the soup dumpling sampler and the sticky ribs. the ramen tasted better than the braised beef soup. but both soups were generous in meat and portion. the sticky ribs were finger licking good and we were saddened by the portion size. the soup dumplings were ok as the skin was thicker than we liked. the flavor was ok for use variety set, but didn't taste much of the "special flavors" come through. If you're looking for good Asian food, this isn't the spot. It seems like they put more effort into the logo and sleek aesthetic than the food itself. The dumplings were just okay. The gimmick is that you can watch them being made in the "dumpling lab," but the experience doesn't make up for the overall lack of flavor across the menu. The food was bland and uninspired, with the kind of taste that reminded me of packaged supermarket Asian food heated up in a microwave. The service didn't help. Our servers seemed unsure of what they were doing. We weren't given utensils, and when we asked for chopsticks, we were told they were out. We started with the Shumai, filled with pork and shrimp and served with a dipping sauce that added another layer of flavor. There were 4 to an order, so we each had one. The Ugly Dumpling Sampler featured 6 varieties of soup dumplings: pork, chicken, pork & crab, pork & truffle, pork, shrimp & spinach, and Szechuan pork. Since we were a table of three, we each had two. I tried the truffle and pork & spinach, while my dinner companions sampled the others. We also ordered the Cream Cheese Rangoon. Six came with the order, so we each had two. They had a creamy filling and were served with sweet-and-sour sauce. The Spicy Pork & Shrimp Wontons came with 8. They had thin wrappers and a moist pork and shrimp filling. Despite being listed as spicy, ours didn't have much heat, so we added some of the garlic chili oil from the table. For our entrées, we ordered Orange Chicken, Chicken Stir-Fry Noodles, and Mongolian Beef. I'm glad we waited until we'd finished the dumplings to order them, because no sooner had I placed the order than the food was already being delivered to our table! The Orange Chicken had a distinctly sweet, orange-forward sauce. The noodles were nicely cooked with a small amount of chicken, while the Mongolian Beef had a pronounced pepper flavor and a generous portion of beef. The restaurant has a bright, airy atmosphere, plenty of space between tables, and comfortable booths. The open layout makes it welcoming for families and accessible for guests with disabilities. The staff was friendly and attentive. There's also a large bar area, although they're still waiting for their liquor license, plus a private party room expected to open in the coming weeks. Go for the soup dumplings, wontons, and Shumai. From the three entrées, I tasted if I wanted Chinese food, I'd go to my favorite Chinese restaurant and skip those meals. read more

Mel and Max took great care of us, and the GM Joe even stopped by our table to check in. We also got to pick a mystery dumpling, and I ended up getting the color I wanted, which was a fun little surprise. Now for the food. The pork belly bao buns were good, but they didn't really wow me. The scallion pancake was flavorful, though I personally prefer mine a little crispier. The beef brisket noodle soup was outstanding. The noodles had that perfect chewy bite, the brisket was fall-apart tender, and the rich, comforting broth was exactly what I was craving. The real MVP, though, was the pork, shrimp, and spinach soup dumplings. I know....who goes to a soup dumpling restaurant and skips the classic pork? But these completely stole the show. They were juicy, flavorful, and honestly some of the best soup dumplings I've ever had. We also ordered the crab and pork soup dumplings. They were good, but not nearly as memorable as the pork, shrimp, and spinach. Don't skip the garlic string beans either, they were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. You could also make them "ugly" but I skipped on the spicy for the night. For dessert, we ordered the giant warm cookie à la mode because there was this glorious menu that was starting back at me saying I need to try it. The first one came out with a cold cookie, but Max immediately took it back without hesitation. Mel personally made sure the replacement came out warm, fresh, and gooey. It was the perfect way to end the meal and really showed how much they cared about the guest experience. Overall, this was a fantastic first visit. I ordered the spring rolls and the pork soup dumplings and they were both delicious. I didn't have time to eat in so I got it to go and ate in the car. What I did notice as I waited on my food to be prepared is that the restaurant seemed short staffed and people had a 15-20 minute wait even though there was a plethora of empty tables in the dining room. I was hoping for the best when I heard about this place, and it met and exceeded my expectations. I'll name a few things: the service was great -- Angela and the other staff members were wonderful. The atmosphere was great too. The pork soup dumplings were awesome! I ordered a pork chop appetizer with a side of white rice for my 4-year-old, and I couldn't believe he ate the whole thing. I had a bite and it was delicious. I also ordered the BBQ bun -- it was okay. Overall, the food was great and I can't wait to go back to try other things on the menu. I'm used to having authentic dim sum places in Queens or Manhattan I guess this is the closest thing in the area. Quality of the dumplings was the biggest downside for me. Could not ask for more attentive! The dumplings were great and the sauces made them even better! I did feel both flavors of LoMein were a bit oily leaving me with an aftertaste of toasted sesame oil, but perhaps that's just my sensitivity to that flavor. Food was really good at this location. Wait was long to get a table but when we were let in there were many tables available, so perhaps more wait staff is needed. I did not get my whole order (the ramen was never delivered). We had to ask a few times to get water and the food and drinks came out at random times. We liked the food, especially the Mongolian beef, and the cost and would give it a try again once service can improve by management. Hmmm...well let's start with the soup dumplings. The name speaks for itself, "soup" dumplings. One would expect soup, yes? When the soup dumplings first arrived, some were flat, others were plumped, and sticking to one another. One was so flat, might as well been a pancake. Then I lifted one, there are no tongs, so use your little paws, and it broke! But that was not the only problem, that dumpling was bone dry! NOTHING! Do not bother with the regular steamed dumpling, just go to H Mart and buy a bag for a few bucks, same same. Stir fried noods, okay, but nothing special. The best thing was the soup though and that is the golden star above. In sum, other than reminiscing about how it use to be Red Lobster, just go to Nan Xiang (flushing), the best close by. The string beans came first and we're a little salty for us. The dish was whisked away immediately and replaced. By then, we had already ordered the 2nd round of dishes and had forgotten to say low salt. They took care of that cheerfully. The juicy pork soup dumpling was the best for me and I didn't need extra ginger which was needed for the red chicken dumpling. The skin wasn't paper thin but perfectly acceptable. The pork chop with fried rice looked good on the menu and tasted even better. The cucumber salad had a hint of spice and the beef noodle soup had 3 large fork tender pieces of beef. It was suspicious that his place had over 200 very positive reviews within the past week when it's been open for such a short period of time. Clearly they were fake reviews or people were compensated in some way for the reviews. First, the ambience was awful. Place doesn't look awful but super bright lighting makes it seem like a cafeteria vs a classy establishment. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you are in an Asian-themed Applebee's. Then, the service was not okay at all. We ordered 4 bubble teas, waters and the meal. 2 bubble teas came out with no straws. Asked for the other bubble teas and straws. Then food started coming out. Still no straws and no other drinks. 4 or 5 of our dishes came out in fast succession and there was no trim left on table--still the rest of the drinks hadn't arrived. Then more food came out. We told them to bring back to the kitchen, that there was clearly no room left on the table, and we still didn't have the rest of the drinks. They got mad at us because they didn't want to bring the food back to the kitchen as it would get cold. The manager then comes to the table we explained how frustrated we were and that the service was awful and he apologized and said it was a 'dim sum experience'. Clearly, he doesn't realize who he is talking to as I go to Dim sum at some of the best places in NYC and this does not even come anywhrrr close to a dim sum experience. Maybe he should try Din Tai Fung or a real dim sum restaurant before he makes a ridiculous comparison having such poor service. The good news is the food was not as terrible as I would have anticipated based on first impression. The soup dumplings were decent as was the scallion pancake. The pork bun, pork chop fried rice, noodles, and cream cheese Rangoon were subpar but edible. The bubble teas were decent. Anyway, I do not recommend - much better options in Westchester area. Better off with Nana's Sunplings in Eastchester area or O'Mandarin a bit further up on Central Ave. Also, the manager needs a lot more training or a new manager is needed. My husband and I have date night every Friday. It was my turn to pick the restaurant and I was in the mood for Asian Cuisine. I remembered that Ugly Dumpling had opened up and wanted to give it a try. I called to see if the Scarsdale location needed reservations or if we could just walk in. The person I spoke to on the phone said no reservations were needed and that I could just walk in. We arrived around 7p and as soon as I saw the parking lot I knew it was going to be packed and that we were going to have a long wait. Once inside my fears were confirmed as we were told it was going to be a 50min wait. I immediately regretted not making the reservation on the phone. So if you are going to visit Ugly Dumpling and you do not want to wait make a reservation. Anyone with a reservation was immediately seated. The redeeming aspect of having to wait was the ambiance. The restaurant was beautiful, the lighting was perfect and I truly enjoyed looking around and discovering new things in the decor as I waited. When it was our turn to be seated we walked by their famous dumpling making window where you can see them making the dumplings. I thought it was so interesting. Once seated, we are presented with the menu and placed our order. Our server was so nice and he really helped guide our choices. I ordered the scallions pancakes, shrimp stir fried noodles. My husband got the Braised baby back ribs, chicken fried rice, orange chicken which came with white rice, and we shared the Soup Dumpling sampler. I wanted to order a Iced sweet creme drink but didn't know if I would like it. I asked our server and he explained that it would be like an iced tea with creme, which didn't sound very good so I got a Pepsi. My husband got the Honey lemonade which was delicious. Everything came out when it was supposed too, the food was hot and very tasty. I read some of the other reviews before going to the Ugly Dumpling and some people said it was very salty. Saltiness really is a preference and if you are sensitive to salt I would suggest not using the condiments as they will add more salt to the food. My only critiques about the food are that the shrimp in my shrimp stir fry noodles were those tiny baby shrimp rather than regular shrimp and that was a little disappointing. I also love crispy garlic chili oil and the one at the table wasn't what I expected as it was more of a paste. Overall I loved my experience at the Ugly Dumpling and I would go back! In fact I want to try their Boa buns, ramen, and Shumai. I even want to try their Taro Sweet creme and Chocolate chip lava cookie. read more
