After hearing so many positive things about Aberdeen Seafood & Dim Sum, I was expecting a standout meal, but I left disappointed. The food wasn't bad--it was simply mediocre and underwhelming. The biggest issue was that several dishes were underseasoned and lacked the bold flavors I expect from a good Cantonese restaurant. The Yang Chow fried rice was especially bland and needed more seasoning. The har gow and several of the dim sum items also fell short of expectations. The steamed spare ribs and beef chow fun were okay but nothing memorable. The salt and pepper shrimp was probably the highlight of the meal, but it wasn't unique or better than what I've had at many other Chinese restaurants. So... we traveled 1200 miles to have wonderful Chinese Food. The Aberdeen, located off the lobby of the White Plains Residence Inn, is known for its dim sum - which is excellent. However, the rest of the broad and deep menu is excellent as well. The rich Sweet Corn Chicken Soup is sweet, thick (but not gummy) and quite tasty. The pan fried dumplings were outstanding. They were perfectly cooked and well stuffed with minced pork and veggies. The Honey Walnut Shrimp were amazing - plump and perfectly dressed. Finally, the Sesame Chicken was amazing. Pleasantly surprised to discover that the restaurant inside my hotel (the Marriott Residence Inn) was actually a solid dim sum spot! I stopped by around 1:30-2pm on a Sunday and was seated immediately with no wait. Service was quick and efficient throughout the meal. Having both options is very convenient and presumably a major time-saver during their busier periods. The food came out promptly, and as always with dim sum, my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. I completely overordered, but honestly, no regrets because the leftovers made a great dinner later that night. A highlight for me was that they offered sweet silken tofu, which can surprisingly be hard to find. The tofu itself was silky and satisfying, though I personally wish the syrup had been just a touch sweeter, however, the ginger flavor came through wonderfully. I order dim sum, so the pork soup dumplings, shumai chives dumplings and a wonton soup. So I loved the pork soup dumplings really good. The shumai was also really good and the chives dumplings had a whole shrimp in them. I loved all the items except the wonton soup. The wonton soup had a too much pepper and if it was not pepper it was a flavor, I have never had before. The soup was not bad just that particular flavor overwhelmed it. This had been on my list of places to check out so i'm glad we finally got to go. Food: we tried several dim sum and some main entrees. The dim sum dishes were overall really good. My fave was the pork shu mai which were very flavorful and juicy. The entrees (beef over crispy noodles and crispy chicken w/ fried garlic) were good but not amazing. Service was great. They are quick and attentive. Price: a bit expensive for dim sum. Each dim sum dish was around $7-8 and by the end of the evening, our check came out to $140 (including tax and tip) for 3 people. We were full and satisfied but dayum.. that was expensive. Dim Sum: if you're looking for the traditional dim sum experience, just be warned that at least when we went for dinner, they didn't do the dim sum in carts like they do in chinatown. I don't know if they do that during earlier hours. Tip: you can park in the paid parking lot to the LEFT side of the restaurant/hotel building. take you ticket inside and the restaurant will validate your parking up to 3hrs so that it will be free! The dumplings were good, but I felt four dumplings for the price wasn't worth it. I would've appreciated another dumpling or a little less money. I do not like how when the gratuity gets printed on the bill the suggested or two that I mean, it comes after the tax. They shouldn't be recommending gratuity on the tax. I had only been here a few years ago and it is totally different now. When I went years ago, I really wasn't impressed for all the hype and was disappointed. This time was totally the opposite. Aberdeen is our go-to place for our big family Chinese celebrations, including Chinese New Years. It's the best chinese restaurant in the area, which the widest array of options. We have members of the group that can't eat spicy food, so Aberdeen is the only place we can go to (that I know of). O'Mandarin and Fantasy Cuisine are other favorites, but they don't have any or limited non-spicy dishes. I've seen other negative comments. We're of Chinese descent and have come here multiple times with up to 3 families, multi-generational from boomers to millennials, and everyone enjoyed the food. You can have a nice big group here and reservations make it easy. We've had about 10 people. We also had a work anniversary dinner here for 10-12, which was wonderful (the place was chosen by a Taiwanese foodie). Service is good. Decor is a little old, but it's pleasant enough. Aberdeen is different from many of those noisy, busy restaurants, including buffets and AYCE's. I love that this place is nice and quiet, so people can relax, talk and have conversations. Note, these are not light meals! Our favorites are Peking pork chops, sesame chicken, noodles with mushrooms, pan fried beef chow mein , Peking duck, shrimp with mayonnaise, any vegetable, and lobster. The kung pow tofu was surprisingly delicious with small pieces of crisp tofu, soft in the middle. We ordered this dish for the vegan in our family. They stop serving dim sum at 7:30 so I was able to get my fave char siu bao as an app. One thing I don't love about coming here is the online ordering system, an unfortunate addition from Covid. You scan a code and are taken to the menu, you place your order online and wait for the food. If you have questions about the menu or need more tea or drinks you end up waiting awhile for a person to walk past- they have a lot fewer staff now that they don't have to use carts for dim sum anymore. Also beware if you're ordering dim sum, don't order everything at one time online. We hadn't been here since before the pandemic. We prefer getting here right when they open on a weekend at 11:30am. We were a party of 7, so we made a reservation ahead of time. We were seated right away, despite our entire party not being present. The most notable change since before the pandemic is how you order. Each table now is given a QR code and one person can order via their phone for the whole table. Within minutes of pressing "enter" on my phone, the dishes started coming! The only dish that wasn't hot was the shrimp with the eggplant. Everything tasted just how we remembered it. We were recommended this place by a friend who lives in Connecticut and drives all the way to White Plains to eat dim sum here! We made a reservation (had to call, no option to do this online) for a party of 4 around 6:00pm on a week night. We showed up early by about 30 minutes or so, and they attended to us without issue. They took our drink orders and then showed us how to order using their online system. Once food was ordered, it came out very quickly and was served with care. Although the majority of the ordering was done via the online system, there were still waiters around to answer questions and help. We mostly ordered a variety of dumplings, and then added a soy noodle dish and some scallion pancakes. Everything was amazing. The dumplings were tender, hot, and packed full of flavor. This is, by far, the best dim sum we have had in years, better than many places we've tried in Manhattan. The only thing I would say that Aberdeen could improve it its ambience, which is a bit dated and cold. To me, that's not worth removing a star because the food is incredible and the service is friendly, but it's something that might matter to other guests. read more

And the chive filling mixed with rice flour was incredibly thick. The bean curd skin was absolutely delicious, super hot and perfectly balanced in flavor. I love how savory this dish is and it's one of my favorites. The roast pork buns were okay. They have never been a favorite but I was curious how they would taste here. Again it just didn't taste fresh for some reason. Im so used to hot freshly baked, and this wasn't that. The pork dumplings were absolutely delicious and fresh. They came out last though. We had to wait quite some time after we were done with the rest of dishes. The service was ok. When we asked about the dumplings. They said they were coming out shortly and we could see them walking out with pork dumplings for other tables and they kept passing us by. Finally when we asked one last time, they brought them out. As I mentioned in my prior review, I hadn't been since 2019. Anyway, my GF moved to Westchester and wanted Chinese food, and there are way, way fewer options than around New Brunswick, NJ. O Mandarin is ok, and she wanted to go here instead. Basically, the place is exactly the same as it was in 2019, though maybe a bit dingier. Parking garage is still super tiny (but they do validate parking). That said we went during dinner on a Friday around 7 PM and it wasn't too crowded. Order some dim sum as well as a noodle dish. I liked it. GF liked it. Definitely still the best Chinese restaurant in Westchester but basically it and O Mandarin are the only Chinese restaurants in Westchester. We had a nice lunch here. Food was good, but it's a little bit difficult to order on your phone. I don't like the system they have here. There is nowhere to request water, or if you need a fork, or if somethings missing at the table. This is a real downfall to enjoying the meal. You're constantly on your phone ordering more or looking for someone to bring you something that you can't get on your phone. Anyway, we started with Hot and sour soup which was good. Next we had shrimp dumplings, roast pork buns, curry buns, bean paste buns, custard filled ones, and boneless pork. The best thing on the table by far was the shrimp shumai. Food was good, but some of the dumplings really needed a sauce to dip in. They were very bland. It was also very hard to share everything on this large round table. You enter through a random relatively unmarked solid metal door off to the side of a lobby in a Marriott -- once again proving that "hole in the wall" type places are often solid places to get delicious Chinese food. We showed up on Sunday shortly after they opened and it was a 1-hour wait. We walked around the area and came back shortly before the hour was up and seated promptly. Water and tea were also served as soon as we were seated. While push carts are nostalgic and a fun experience, I actually feel like I enjoyed their ordering system more - it was efficient and easy - you scan a QR code and order online. The service was attentive and quick. The dim sum arrived soon after ordering. We also ordered the salted fish and chicken fried rice, which did take a bit more time, presumably made to order. All the dim sum dishes were fantastic - some standouts included the mango pudding, seafood shui mai, fried shrimp ball. Mango pudding was smooth with exceptional mango flavor. The seafood shui mai and fried shrimp ball both featured a delightful texture with delicious seafood flavor. Other classics like shrimp cheung fun (rice noodle crepe) were well-executed. We also got the rice noodle crepe with fried dough (zhaliang), which was still delicious, but the fried dough didn't seem the freshest - a bit hard compared to the desired crispy/crunchy texture. read more

We arrived at 11:20am on a Sunday to find a line already. They opened at 11:30am and we were the last one to get first seating. Lucky! They re-arranged the interior since the last time we were here pre Covid. The place is clean, dim sum is delicious. And staff is very friendly. We always come back. Total bill was $107 including tip but we shared ~11 types of dim sums. read more
