I've been visiting the UK gourmet since they were in their original location, which was a much smaller place. Their new location is spacious with a large assortment UK items. Upon entering, the entire left wall is covered with candies and sweets, to the right are aisles of different packaged foods (chips, crackers,jelly, cookies, etc.), cold drinks, teas, and even an area with frozen (Bangers) and other cold items. There is even a small section of gift items and toiletries from the UK. This is a great place to come if you have a homesick friend or family member and you want to create a gift to remind them of home. It is also a great place to find all of the snacks you've heard of but didn't know where to find them. I was even lucky enough to find my (Canadian) Coffee Crisp bar. The ladies at the counter told me that it had been a while since they've gotten them into the store. I didn't want to be greedy, so I only bought four. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

I love this little store. It reminds me of when I used to live in London. They have all sorts of delicious goods and I'll only buy my tea from here! I just purchased a Dunoon bone china cup and I am so pleased with it! I use it every night. They also have delicious crisps and Cadbury chocolate. It really is a taste of UK. i went looking for thier website to see xmas specials and noticed the oddly low yelp rating. Lisa and the staff at UK gourmet are fantastic and I couldn't let that falsely low rating slide. We've been shopping there for years and love the great selection, cheery people, and the quaint feel of this great little shop! I like watching imported british tv shows and they always have the interesting treats and snacks I see being enjoyed over there, like smokey bacon crisps and yorkie bars! The selection and the prices are in line with other import stores and I know and can see you pride yourself on customer service but honestly sometimes it feels stifling and intrusive to have someone constantly greeting you and asking if you need help. Most of us ex-pats know what we're looking for etc and don't need to be followed around. I own a business so I'm all for providing exemplary service but for such a tiny shop five or more times of being asked makes me feel pressured. Also not all of your staff come across as friendly when they ask. One gentleman can be extremely frosty. A customer and I left at the same time once and outside she remarked that she wouldn't be back because she feels intimidated and I know what she means. What a gem we have here in Bethel! Not only is the selection huge, but some of the best food and gifts in the area. The Ambiance is quaint and warm! A wonderful English / Irish market that has many groceries that you would make you would feel your were back home. A very helpful staff wrapped up a lovely Mother's Day basket. While it is a drive from Southeastern CT (about an hour) it is well worth the trek. read more

Make sure you check the hours before planning a trip to the store. This is a great place to find traditional Irish Rashers and Bangers. They also have all the fixings for an Irish breakfast, jams, biscuits, chips. Etc and all the traditional treats. Great place to put together a gift basket for birthdays or holidays. I stumbled upon UK Gourmet during an extensive internet search for my favorite Scottish Oatcake and I couldn't be more pleased! Lisa responded quickly to my request and went out of her way to make sure I got exactly what I asked for. To complicate things, I asked her to delay shipping until a particular date and she not only agreed, but she had my box and tracking info ready when the time was right. The oatcakes were thoughtfully packed and arrived in great shape. I will definitely be ordering from UK Gourmet again and look forward to working with Lisa once more. read more

They seem a bit racist. They're nice to the white couples or families, every time I go there. The manager actually followed me around the store, staring into my basket! I'm British luv! Just trying to get a few things that remind of home! They rang me up so fast and were not friendly at all! This is the last time I will go to this store! Totally happy to find this gem of a shop almost on my doorstep! Always a pleasure visiting this place! Not just the authentic, nostalgic British/UK goodies but their customer service is stellar! Especially, the tall, slender young lady with a welcoming smile, knowledgeable about the products and when customers should check back for certain items. Highly recommend it to anyone curious about European foods or those homesick. My childhood faves are the smarties, toffees, Ribena, and of course the biscuits & Cadbury chocolates...list is endless! This little shop is jam packed full of great British groceries. The selection is amazing and the service very friendly. Before we found this place, we were considering shopping online to get the British food we miss so much. However, these folks are so well stocked, we'll never need to do that. We bought pork pies, back bacon, pork sausage, black pudding, Lorne sausage and haggis. We also got British chocolate, biscuits, crisps, pickled onions and soda. One of the best stocked, fairly priced UK grocers we've been to (and that's saying a lot because we've been to plenty). Everyone who works there is super nice and always upbeat. Even had my fave toothpaste from back in England. TONS of Chocs, BEST bacon, crisps, biscuits, Paxo and so so much more. First, I was really glad to find a cute gourmet store, but they really should re-price their items. After I bought several things from here, I stopped by Caraluzzi's for some other stuffs. And I found exactly same products with less than a half price. As a small business owner, I know it is hard to compete with big businesses, but still paying more than 2 times for the same items really made me turning away from this store. BTW, I went back to check the products that were a lot cheaper at Caraluzzi's, and they were all imported from UK. read more
