My boyfriend and his parents have been going to UK Salon to get their hair cuts and highlighted by Takeshi for over 15 years now. So when I wanted to get my hair highlighted for the first time along with a great cut, I thought why not have Takeshi do it? I have been wanting to get my hair highlighted for years now, but am always so afraid that the stylist will mess up my hair and cause it to break and fall out. I have relatively thin hair, so I can't afford to lose anymore hair. We called in for an appointment but had to wait 2 weeks because UK Salon was backed up with customers already. I didn't mind waiting at all. At last I don't have to wait years to get what I wanted. I was more and more excited and bit nervous as the weeks passed by. I didn't know what to expect - I just know I have HIGH expectations for Takeshi and the services at UK. They did NOT disappoint. Takeshi worked on my highlights, then cut my bf's hair while I was getting a head massage, then back to finishing up cutting my hair. I love our conversations while Takeshi cuts my hair. There was never a moment that I felt uncomfortable. He and his staff were SUPER NICE and POLITE. With highlights and a cut, the bill came out to be $190 (including tips). To me, this is pretty pricey for any hair cuts, but according to my bf Takeshi has given me a great discount. Regardless of the price, I would come back again. Next time, I would like to get a wavy perm and make my highlights lighter shades of golden brown. Takeshi's professional cuts made my hair soft and natural looking. I've been going here for about 4 years and have never been disappointed. I refer friends all the time and they too are fans. I have very dark hair which requires a lot of time and Takashi is always amazing and does wonders. Every time I visit home (Cali) I try to squeeze in an appointment. Takeshi took care of my hair for couple of years. He is really skilled. Japanese hair stylists who trained in Japan, they practice after work until 11pm or midnight everyday. Over there everyone wants to be a top hair stylist. Takeshi is the one of them. When he colors your hair, your hair never get damaged. When he cuts and set your hair you look million dollars. I moved to S.F couple years ago and keep looking for the one like Takeshi. Unfortunately there is no one great like Takeshi. I miss him soooooo much! He is the best! read more

Got to venture to good ol' LA the other weekend and do my beauty rounds. If you're anything like me, you've had one too many bad haircut experiences that have left you scarred (uh, why do I look like I have a mullet? :P). Not the case at UK Salon! My first hair experience here was, hm... I think 5 years ago! And ever since, it's the only place, and I mean ONLY that I go to and exit feeling happy & satisfied w/the cut and style (Noriko's my girl!). I've tried posh salons in Northern Cali & Chicago, but nothing compares. UK Salon isn't pretentious, the stylists listen to what you want/work with your hair texture, and the end impact to your pocketbook is decent. Hence, the ritual of heading out to LA every so often for beauty rounds. And for this low-key gal to go through all that trouble ... it's worth it. read more

Don't be scared by the Beverly Hills bitches getting their blowouts, this salon is really down to earth and everyone is super nice! The scalp massage during the hair wash is probably one of the best I've ever experienced (I think I may have drooled?) Takeshi gives amazing haircuts, spending time looking at your bone structure and the texture of your hair before he even wields the scissors. Perfect color. And when I say perfect, I mean that other colorists, when blow drying my hair, have stopped what they were doing to freak out about how great my color is. And it's not that it's just great color for me and my skin tone--it's that Yumin's approach is meticulous and most colorists won't take the time to be as thorough as he will. That's the detail that the other colorists stop and wonder at. The cuts are also always wonderful and precise and I leave their wonderful, bright salon feeling like a million bucks. Yumi is one of the best hairdressers in the l.a. area. I have a crazy head of hair that only he seems to be able to manage. He is always on time, and does great color, great blow dry, great flat iron, and hair straightening too. If you cant make it to the salon, no worries, he has a set up at home too! He has been my loyal hairdresser for years, he does my childrens too!! I have never had a problem getting an appt. Yumi does the Beverly Hills Hair do, without charging Beverly Hills prices. His assistant always massages my head when she washes my hair, and she gives the gentlest of scalp massages for added pleasure. you cant go wrong with this salon!!! We love you!!! read more

I don't think its worth coming here if you are NOT already an existing customer. You will NOT get the attention and cut you deserve for paying $80. I feel like he just chopped off my hair as FAST as he can so he can serve more customers. Its not because they are not skilled. Its because they have NO TIME for new customers. I mean, I'm no newbie to having my hair cut.... Usually to get a proper cut I think you will give the first cut.... then refined it atleast one time after blow drying. I've been going to Takeshi since 1994 when he was at a prior salon off of Third Street. I guess he's cut my hair at least well over 100 times. I've gone through the caeser, the short on sides long on top look, long hair, spikey top, etc. with him. He's always been great and I have never felt rushed. He is professional, precise, and always friendly. The head messages are great and you always feel like you get his full attention. After over a decade, I've now become very good friends with him and his staff. Love the Takeshi!! read more

Takeshi has been cutting my hair forever. I have tried other local stylists for convenience and no one compares, so I make the haul to the Westside from Pasadena ( I always ask him if he can open a satellite salon.) The salon is laid back and mellow with no attitude and it is always a great experience. read more

so I come in and am pleased with the Japanes hospitality and politeness, but very disappointed by the fact that I was told by the gentleman(owner) he can cut wavy, curly hair with razer. I also asked to keep the front of my hair long and not to touch it. and what did he manage to do he took the scissors to my scalp in the front I have hair so short in the very front its the worst experience of my life since it won't grow to full length for months. OMG the worst hair cut in my life, It was butchered so bad I might as well have gone to supercuts. seems to be the trend here in LA where all dishonest people tell you they can cut hair the way you want, and in reality they don't even have a clue how to do it. I come form NYC where people actually have talent and are not afraid to hold scissors and razor blades. after trying so many hair salons here Ive decided to fly back to NYC for hair cut from now.
