The venue " Shutters on the Beach" is front of the beach in Santa Monica it was windy in November 2014. But she stayed by my side and fixed my hair during all the wedding photos. Kana is amazing! She has been my go-to hair stylist for 6 years and counting. When she left Object Salon I must admit I grew a little bit anxious. I used to live 5 mins away from Object, then I moved to Cerritos which turned the drive into 50 mins (on a good day!) Now that she is at Lukaro Salon, my drive hasn't any gotten better. But you know what...good hair don't care! I'd literally drive anywhere to see her. I've experimented with other salons closer to home, but they don't ever match up to Kana's skills. She is very talented, kind, sweet, and always keeps up to date with the newest hairstyles and coloring techniques. She also definitely knows how to tame my thick locks. I love how she cuts hair when it is wet, then also cuts it after it is dried. Other stylists I've been to only cut hair wet and after it is blow dried it turns into a frizzy mess. I found Kana through a good friend's referral. This was my first haircut and color in over a year and I'm so glad I trusted Kana. She is a true professional and starts asking you for pictures of your current hair and what your end result should look like a week before you appointment. I have more and thicker hair than most people. Actually, that's an understatement. I probably have double the amount of hair most women have. So my hair coloring experiences have always sucked in the past. I pretty much gave up on coloring for 2 years before I found Kana. When I got to the salon, she made sure she understood exactly what I was looking for. My goal was a long lob cut with ash blonde balayage highlights. The only problem with that is my thick black Asian hair. She made sure to warn me that Asian hair has a lot of red undertones and it would be very difficult to accomplish this ashy cool tone I was looking for. But nevertheless, she worked her magic. I'm very disappointed that I chose kana to do my hair. First off, she was not so friendly as I read on many of her reviews. She seemed to have a really bad day and seemed not interested in talking. No smile, no how are you, no nothing. It was so awkward the entire time. I tried to have mini talks here and there but all ended with just her saying yes or no.. I thought ok, maybe she just wants to concentrate on her work. I left the awkwardness alone. But as she continued to work on my hair, not only she was unfriendly, my hair/head was man handled so much! She had such rough touches while washing and blow drying that I was in pain. She'd also sigh a lot. Again I though maybe she's just having a bad day and told myself that I'm here for my hair. I don't have to like her. Just wait for the result that everyone on her reviews is raving about. I continued to sit patiently. The result was not what I had told her at all. We'd spoken via email with photos of what my current hair looks like and what I'm looking for (per her request). I also explained in person on the day of the appointment. We speak the same mother language so I'm sure there was no misunderstanding... At the end, I just realized that I wasn't treated as an important client of hers. I see that she has lots of her regular clients along with the ones who followed her from her previous salon and probably because she works with some silly semi known instagrammers, Anyone else is maybe just some dreading work to her.
