I liked all five wines on the tasting menu, including the rosé, which is new for me because I don't usually love rosés. I ended up getting another glass of the Barbera after we finished the tasting. Beautiful view from their deck. We caught the tail end of their cave tour, which always fun. Overall a really lovely wine experience.

Let me preface this with this - I rarely write reviews, and never have had to write a bad one…read moresadly. I believe sometimes companies have off days, and employees may have a bad day, which can affect one's experience, thus I dont let one bad experience ruin a company's review. But when it comes to my CHILD, you best believe i will never forgive and forget or let our experience be forgotten. We visited this winery expecting a relaxing, family-friendly experience and instead left with our daughter crying after being scratched in the face near her eye by the owner's off-leash dog. What makes this especially frustrating is that the winery's own rules state dogs must be leashed, yet the owners' dogs were roaming the property freely. Our daughter was calmly petting one of the dogs with me standing directly beside her when the dog suddenly growled and scratched her across the face. This was completely unprovoked and witnessed by the owner himself, who said absolutely nothing afterward. No apology, no concern, no accountability. An employee later approached us and said, "Sorry, he's old and maybe didn't like that she was the same height as him, which made him react".....which felt less like accountability and more like an absurd attempt to excuse why a reactive dog was allowed to roam off leash around guests and children. We also observed the dogs behaving territorially toward other leashed dogs on the property, making it even more inappropriate that they were allowed off leash in a public setting. My father-in-law is a VERY well known, well respected, and prominent winemaker in Virginia and across the United States, if you know anything about wine, you know him. So lets say, we understand winery culture and hospitality, fairly well. Had something like this happened on his property, it would have been handled immediately and professionally with genuine concern for the injured guest.....especially a child. Watching the owner casually continue on in his conversation with whomever, and pet the dog like nothing happened while our daughter screamed and cried was honestly unbelievable. In my opinion, not worth the visit for the subpar wine, if you want to take your children/dog somewhere. The poodles were friendly to me, and other adults, until we saw their behavior to other dogs & then my child....The complete lack of concern from ownership after a child was injured was shocking. Frankly, they are fortunate we chose not to escalate the situation further. Parents should absolutely be cautious visiting here with children or pets. An off-leash dog with territorial behavior has no place interacting freely with guests. Absolutely shocked and the owner should be ashamed of his actions & response (or lack there of) to the situation.

The staff and owners are wonderful friendly, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the entire experience feel warm and engaging. LXV is especially known for pairing wine with custom spice and flavor experiences that complement the tasting. They traditional wine tasting and a wine-and-cheese pairing experience (which I highly recommend). The cheeses are coated with the different blends of LXV's own herbs and spices, adding a unique layer of flavor to each tasting. Our first stop when we arrived in Paso. We've been to so many wineries, this would be one of our top 10. The spice pairing is unique but pairs so well with the wine. Buy 3 bottles to waive the fee. Since it's more of boutique, the bottles are quite pricey, mostly ranging near the 100s. But it was our favorite the whole weekend we went there. And we bought 6 bottles. We loved the spell and got 3 bottles of that! It's a Syrah cab blend. Has the Paso flavor that we love. It's not a vineyard, just a tasting room but worth a visit. We met the wine maker too. Friendly and attentive service. Can't wait to pop open a bottle at home soon!

We called to say that we were running a little behind which they were ok with. When we arrived, we were the only one there. The property itself isn't that big. Somewhat of an industrial area. There's also the barrel room area which I believe your allowed tasting in as well but seemed more for an event. Which one was either happening that evening or the following day. The gentleman working was the sweetest. Welcomed us and took very good care of us. Explained the wine which is always a must. I'm more of a red drinker but some of their whites were excellent. Oh, the bubbles to begin with was great. It's more of a mom and pop place but tasty. During our tasting, people did start to arrive which was nice and I believe the owners were there as well. Preparing for the event happening later. The pours were great and the wine was quite nice. The whole experience was very fun. Compared to the other wineries which are pretty massive. Everyone got the chance to hold each bird with a gloved hand. We met Bug, the calm and irresistibly cute mini owl; Jack, the Eurasian Eagle Owl, surprisingly heavy and full of personality (though not thrilled about being passed back to his handler); Goose, the chatty falcon who was charming but preferred not to be touched; and Ranger, the hawk, who stole the show. We loved sending Ranger out and calling him back with a treat--though he did swoop down and land on my head once (thankfully, I had a hat on!). After all the bird encounters, we wrapped up with a wine tasting at Via Vega Winery. It was the perfect way to end a unique, unforgettable experience.

After that, everything was fantastic. I love that Justin offers this tasting room separate from their main winery, which is several miles away. Having a location right in the downtown Paso Robles square is so convenient, especially being surrounded by shops and restaurants. I also really loved the setup with tables to sit at versus standing at a bar. They offer wine by the glass as well as different tasting flight options, and they also serve small bites. We heard there are different menus depending on the day, which is a nice touch. Our server greeted us quickly, brought water right away, and got our first tasting to us fast. She was very knowledgeable about the wines and did an excellent job explaining each one. Since we were in a bit of a hurry to catch a flight, she kindly brought all of our tastings out at once, clearly labeled, walked us through them, and let us enjoy at our own pace.
