My oven stopped working so I called UAR and they said someone would be there between 4-6 and then called me when Darius was an hour out. Darius was a polite friendly guy and he checked out my oven and determined that I needed a new control board then he looked it up and quoted me how much it would be for the part ($164) and labor ($180). I paid him in full plus tip and he said they were ordering the part today and that they would call me in the next few days to schedule the repair. I realized once Darius left that I stupidly had just given a stranger $395 cash and not asked for a receipt so I called them up and asked them to email me one. A few hours later they hadn't done it so I called back and they sent me an itemized invoice. I never heard back from them so I called a few days later and Darius said he wasn't sure if they had gotten the part yet but said he would call me back, and then he did a few hours later and said he could be here in 30 minutes to install the new part. He arrived on time, installed the part and my oven seems to be working great, I am baking an apple crisp as we speak. So - I can't speak to others' experiences with Darius but I found him to be competent, friendly and professional. I did have to be a little pushy about getting a receipt I should have asked for when I initially paid, and to get information about the status of my repair but overall I had a good experience and my stove was fixed within a few days. read more

This place is a ripoff.. they cashed my check within 24 hours of almost $500 and said they would come fix my dryer as soon as the parts came in .. this was May 8, 2020.. after me calling numerous amount of times they tell me that they can't fix it and would refund me my money.. it's now Oct9, 2020 and I still haven't gotten my refund .. they have numerous amount of complaints .. He also disconnected some connections and failed to put them back together while doing his diagnostic. He claimed they would needed to order a part, and would return the following tuesday. Do not use this company. I called them to replace an ignitor on my gas stovetop. It didn't work. Come to find out he did not install it properly. The technician said it was a faulty burner plate. We paid him for the service call and a deposit on the burner plate. He said it would be a couple of weeks to get in. After two weeks I called and they said they were still waiting. I waited another week, he said they were still waiting. I told him to cancel the order and refund the deposit. I then called back said we would wait another week. He said like he told me the other day that the stovetop was too old and they could not get the part. Completely different than what he told me. I went online and found the part in about 10 minutes and ordered it. Should be here in a few days. And we don't even need it. This guy is a crook and he does not even deserve one star. He diagnosed my microwave as needing door switches replaced, missed multiple appointments, broke the mounting bracket while attempting to replace the switches, denied it, left the microwave that worked before he got here disconnected with no labels on the wires and NEVER spoke to me again. he texted me to say the switch he needed was not available (I found it easily). I have several texts from him promising a refund which he has promised 3 times and not done. He is fraudulent and incompetent....luckily a rare bird in the appliance repair business. I suspect this same guy is now operating under the business name of Century Appliance Repair with a Poughkeepsie address. The name on the invoice is Paul Johnson, but the credit card charge was from Ulster Appliance Repair. The email address on the invoice bounced and is bogus. He's blocked my number and looks to be the same operation he was running before. First he ordered the wrong part, then he came back and (I believe) installed my old part back on, based on the problem being the same. He may have installed something else though, since it now blows my circuit breaker every time it kicks on. At the end of the day I'm $600 poorer and have more problems than when I started. read more

On August 8, 2019 Mr Darius Smith come to repair a washing machine. Without fully diagnosing the problem he said it was the door latch and he could have one the following day, but I had to pay in advance, stupid me I wrote a check, which he cashed immediately. Next day he comes with part, and that wasn't the problem. The service repair man came out showed me what needs to be repaired,he ordered the parts I paid them almost the whole balance and he said part will be in next week how does Dec.5 work between 8-10? I had high hopes for these guys as they were willing to try to fix a fridge that other local repair shops weren't comfortable with (it's not a common brand). They showed up and were very professional and diagnosed the issue pretty quickly (the one I had called about plus another they found when they opened up the back panel). They set a date to come back and fix it but didn't show up for the appointment. When I called he said the parts hadn't arrived. Didn't think to tell me in advance (I took a morning off work to be there to let them in). We set another date when the parts arrived. They show up and fixed problem #1 but the part for problem #2 was the wrong part. But I've already paid for the part in advance. After several weeks, Darius told me he can't find the proper part and will issue a refund. That was 2 months ago. I've been calling and texting and he either doesn't answer or return the text or says, "Check is going out today/tomorrow/Friday/etc." I still haven't received a refund for the part. read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. Darius was full of nothing but excuses. In order to repair my washing machine, my gas dryer had to come down out of my small laundry closet (it is a stacked unit). After multiple reschedules (all which were done last minute, during the planned arrival window) he did repair the washing machine, but he did not put the dryer back into the closet properly. I had a gas leak AND the dryer was venting into the house. When I called back to schedule another visit (because of the 60 day warranty on parts and labor) we had more reschedules. He called to say he was on his way, then texted me 5 minutes later to say "the boss said I can't work with the gas line, a licensed plumber has to"... but he is the owner of the company?? He apparently never should have touched it to begin with, and a licensed plumber should have been involved. I am now out over $1000 to clean up the mess that Darius made, when he should have told me he couldn't be responsible for taking the dryer down / putting it back up in the first place. read more
