Every time i come in i can't find anything I'm looking for it's so messy everything is out of stock and when i ask someone who works there, they can't find it either. Most of the employees there are super rude and don't even want to help you. I even asked the manager for help and she was useless. Then i tell her my feedback about the store she doesn't even care. This review is for the Salon... I got my haircut and colored by Brendan along with a hair treatment. He really listened to what I wanted and gave me a lot of information about my hair and what would be expected, which was awesome! Brendan gave me tips on how to style my hair to achieve the look I wanted too! I got my hair cut just a bit, since my hair was already short. Also did a bayalage with a bit of lighter pieces in my hair, because my hair has been colored previously. Overall, the experience was great! This was my second time ever at an Ulta store. The website offered a lot of variety, but the store wasted too much precious space on low-end beauty products that are offered in drugstores and discount stores like Target. Why would they offer Cover Girl and Aveeno items is beyond me. Wouldn't I save more at Target? Meanwhile, brands I found from their website were not available. Customer service reps were just as confused as me! They were going around helping me find items and asking colleagues if certain brands were stocked. I almost came out empty-handed but I saw something on sale I thought I'll just try out. I went home and ordered online and got free gifts with my order and free shipping (on $50+ orders). Most of the time I'm able to find what I need. I usually come to Ulta to buy prestige cosmetics, but unfortunately this time around this particular Ulta stopped carrying it. It's hard for me to find what I need at Target or other drugstores, so I opted for a similar color in another brand. It took me about 20 minutes to browse around to find the exact color I was looking for, but it was well worth it. Even though this Ulta is a bit small and doesn't carry more of the brands I'm use to, I'm still a loyal fan. Overall this was a positive experience and I'm satisfied. Thanks Ulta! read more

Horrible horrible horrible. Every other time was a good experience (been a customer for 3 years) but this time it was horrible. If I could give it 0 stars I would. As we walked in, my sister and I, we were greeted nicely by the security guard, with hand sanitizer provided. He told us to stay 6 ft away from others, keep our mask on, and to not touch the displays (since they didn't want any germs passing around) which we understood. So we said okay and did our shopping. Not even 5 minutes after getting "greeted" the security guard had the audacity to follow us around the store. THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE THERE. So disrespectful and rude. If I could give 0 stars I would I had a horrible experience with the general manager of Volta Alameda Robert Black who makes arbitrary rules up and does not leave in great customer service as a VIP member I will never go to alter in Alameda for services again I strongly advise all women of color to avoid that salon at all cost. Return policy: Rating - 3 I strongly advise against trying to return a product when you no longer have the receipt and it's been more than 60 days since your purchase. Requesting to have customer service email my receipt to the store and final receive a refund required 5 different trips and 4 different online requests. In store customer service: Rating - 5 I never felt like anyone ignored me or didn't try to help me the best they could with what they had. Everyone in the store was very helpful and sweet and I appreciated that they always treated me with respect even when I was frustrated. Online customer service: Rating - 2 I felt like all the responses were being copied from a template and lacked sensitivity and the timelines of their responses took a week or longer. So I have struggled to find a great stylist who really knows their shit when it comes to Platinum blondes ever since my stylist moved out of the country. I have had a lot of bad experiences including a stylist at Ulta in Stockton CA who turned my hair green!!! I moved to Oakland and shop for my makeup products at the Alameda Ulta. One day last month I finally decided to ask if anyone was exceptional with Platinum blondes and they were quick to recommend Brendan the salon manager. Another stylist came along and also agreed that Brendan was definitely the best. So I scheduled for December 19th just before Christmas. I was really nervous because of all my bad experiences. Boy was I in for a treat!!! Brendan was fantastic! Not only did he correct the issues that a previous stylist had done but he is so friendly and just full of positive energy! He even gave me one of his homemade cookies which was delicious! Then on New Year's Eve I was having a really bad day and went by hoping for a miracle.... and it came true! I needed a shampoo and style for a last minute trip and Brendan squeezed me in and hooked me up... and trust me I was a hot A$$ mess that day! So I was coming to leave a review about the security lady today may/4 but I decided to read what others have said and apparently it's not first time this happens... Today I went in with my husband and my 3 year old I had a small cross body bag (literally big enough for my wallet and phone) since I was there to buy a perfume I went straight to the fragrance section. The whole time she was standing just watching us then my husband went to the restroom and I started walking around the right side (more expensive) makeup and I noticed she was following me I decided to walk to the hair aisle and she followed me again. When my husband came back we went back to the fragrance section and she followed us so I asked her if she could help us find what we were looking for she obviously said no... Point is pls Ulta do something about this it's so uncomfortable having to feel like someone is about to jump you if you touch something because they think your about to steal or something... This particular Ulta location at South Shore Center needs so much improvement. There are always empty shelves for no apparent reason. Fragrance cabinet is completely empty; if you want fragrance they have to go get it out of the back. Wanted to sample a scent but there was no sample bottle available. The "manager" (she doesn't appear to manage much of anything) said they could not open one to create a sample bottle. No sale on that item - can't buy a fragrance without smelling it!! Overall, the shelves are junky and could be much cleaner. Too many floor displays full of jumbled product block the ability to navigate the store. There are employees who try to be helpful, but they are inexperienced in the products and have no sales skills, and are clearly hindered by poor management. Generally speaking, Ulta seems to be a junk store for makeup. The chain does not provide a pleasant shopping environment, yet the prices don't match the bargain basement ambiance--everything is full price or more. (We walked over to the Kohl's + Sephora in the same center and got the fragrance we wanted with the ability to sample if first, AND it was $30 cheaper than Ulta's price!) This Ulta was extremely overheated, and there was a constant ear piercing beeping from some kind of alarm, which employees just seemed to ignore. The heat, the alarm beeping, the overly-loud music, and the low stock/selection on everything plus junky shelves & makeup samples all made us just want to leave immediately. On the way out, we mentioned the alarm beeping to the manager and she just kind of shrugged and acted like she didn't know what we were talking about. Given how many one-star reviews there are for this location here on Yelp, the problems have been ongoing for a long while, so the problem must be Ulta's upper leadership being incapable of giving a crap about making improvements. Hi everyone! I wanted to write this review in response to another review written by Rick Q. He states that the manager here was rude and disrespectful but i was behind him in line and witnessed this event and the narrative rick is writing is completely false. HE was extremely disrespectful, rude and threatening yelling across the entire store insulting and belittling the manager (jessica). She was unaware of one product in a store filled with thousands of items and apologized multiple times when another associate found it. He continued to argue with her incessantly and wouldn't leave her alone even after she expressed that she was beginning to feel uncomfortable due to Ricks aggressiveness. Frankly, Rick should apologize to her as it was a simple mistake and he flew off the handle for no apparent reason. If you are a Black Woman , I HIGHLY recommend not coming to this Ulta. I came to this location the other day when it was raining just to re-up on some mascara and see what else was new in stock. It was raining as I stated so I had on a beanie. I was in the store for like 90 seconds literally when their LP lady started to follow me. I thought she was a work coming to greet me or something, I was wrong. She literally followed me the entire time I was in there , making it super uncomfortable. It was weird to me because I was the only woman being followed while there was a woman in there of another ethnicity with a suitcase & was payed no mind. This location is closets to my home that's why I went but after purchasing my products & leaving , I still feel a way about the whole ordeal. I won't patron this location ever again. Rebecca or the chick with the nasty fading green hair needs to be fired or get an attitude check. My sister had a 20% off coupon and when we tried to use it, Rebecca said it didn't work for prestige items. Okay that's fine, a lot of Ulta coupons do have that restriction. But I had a separate coupon that specifically says 20% off on prestige items and fragrances. I showed it to her and she immediately dismissed it and said "oh yes but there are specific brands that are excluded and it doesn't work for yours". She didn't even attempt to use the coupon. I walked outside and tried on my phone since there's never signal inside and low and behold, the coupon worked for the specific item we were buying. Went back in line and told her and she said "no I didn't say that. I said I can't use the code you gave me." Obviously I slapped back with "no you didn't even attempt to use the code, you straight up said it doesn't work even though it says it works on prestige brands." Then when a manager or higher up asks what's wrong, she snaps and tries to hide her mistake by saying nothing. She talks to me with an attitude and asks me to turn up my brightness on my phone, grabs my phone out of my hand (bish didn't even ask), then tosses the eye cream I was buying onto the counter towards me. Girl asking you to try a coupon doesn't hurt YOUR wallet in anyway, it's your dam job. And if my email says it works on prestige items, at least look at it. Rude and dismiss af. Ulta is a great store that carries high-end AND drugstore makeup. They also have a great selection on skin care, perfumes, hair products and bath products like shampoo and body wash; almost kind of like a one-stop shop for your beauty needs. The service here can be hit or miss; the first few times I was here, the associates weren't very friendly and didn't have the greatest attitude. Lately the service has been improving! Everyone is eager and happy to help. With such a beautiful store, it's sad that the drugstore area is always tampered with... It's nearly impossible to buy anything from the NYX section because almost all of the products have been opened up and swatched/used. It's a bummer, cause I love the soft matte lip creams! The high-end beauty products don't really have any issues, except maybe the Anastasia Beverly Hills section. I feel like a "quick trip" isn't possible here because the checkout lanes move so slow. I dropped in for a haircut yesterday. It was an awful cut. I showed the stylist a picture of how I wanted it and asked is she wants to see it again. My friend and I were stalked all throughout the store by multiple employees and when we confronted one of them about it, she lied to us and denied everything. Got my makeup done there for prom and was just not happy with how I looked and it took such a long time for a less than decent result, I almost missed my prom bus. I don't recommend getting your makeup done there (then again it could've been the specific MUA but I don't remember her name) or wandering the store if you'd like to avoid being stalked. I've been coming to this Ulta since it first opened years ago. I don't understand why this Ulta hires girls with nasty attitudes. I was just serviced by Leann at the counter. I asked if one of the Ulta brushes I wanted to buy was half off today for the 21 days of beauty. Okay I get this snooty " it's only the makeup kits that are on sale". Me being the nice person that I am, gently told her there's a sign up that mentions individual brushes are on sale as well. She proceeds to ask me what section did I see that sign in. My goodness, is all this necessary. I don't appreciate people taking to me like I'm stupid over something so minute and trivial This is a common theme at this Ulta and I'm getting tired of it really. There's no need for the snooty attitude or the sarcastic " byee". Maybe, just maybe start hiring folks that have a little empathy and a little kindness to them. This review is for the nail salon at Ulta not the store itself. I am happy that Ulta moved into South Shore. It's so nice to have lots of options for skin care and makeup and I think it complements the Beauty Center and Walgreens just fine. I decided to try out the salon at Ulta and get a manicure. I am hard on my hands and the gel manicures have been a welcomed addition to my personal maintenance. Ulta only does OPI gel manicures. I've had OPI gel at other nail shops and it performed wonderfully -usually lasting 12 days. Not so much with the OPI Gel manicure from Ulta. The manicure itself was lackluster- more like a polish change, not pushing back cuticles, no trimming. The manicurist had to answer phones and customer's questions which made the manicure very long. She had a beautiful manicure herself. I have never been to a nail salon where the manicurist wears nail polish. She was very careful with her nails and I think my service suffered for it. The gel peeled and lifted at the edges after 2 days. I got a manicure two days before a big party because I wasn't going to have time the day of. The day of the party I soaked off the gel and cleaned my nails up at home. So much for $25 and over an hour of my time. There are a lot of good nail salons in Alameda and Ulta isn't one of them. read more

Clean store, friendly employees. Employees here don't seem to have tried a lot of the products (yeah I get that there are a lot of products, but go to Sephora and they will have had firsthand experiences with many of the products in the store) so it doesn't give me a lot of confidence when I ask them, "Have you tried this?" and they say no. Also, employees should be aware of the store's sales. I get that Ulta changes its sales weekly, but it's not a good thing when the customer is overcharged for items that should be on sale. Also, take down outdated sale/promotion signs to not confuse the customer. My biggest issue with this Ulta is that one of the employees signed me up for a "free" Glamour and Allure magazine subscription without my consent. As a result, I have been getting all these junky magazines AND being charged for them. I called Allure and Glamour's customer service numbers (on two separate occasions) to cancel this unauthorized subscription and charge. I told the man I was being charged $10.50 for magazines that I did not ask for and that were OK'ed by an Ulta employee at the Alameda location. The man told me that Ulta SIMPLY HANDS OVER THEIR CUSTOMERS' CREDIT CARD NUMBERS TO THE MAGAZINE COMPANIES SO THAT WE, THE CUSTOMERS, GET CHARGED UNKNOWINGLY. WTF?????? If you MUST shop at Ulta, USE CASH so that your credit card number is not given to a third party without your consent. You have been warned!! read more

This place had so much potential, its in a nice shopping area and its next to the beach. But...this store is the definition of rachet. I'm so dissappointed because this is the only ulta store near me. I went on a monday amd lots of things were out of stock. Most of the time they dont have the new releases that im looking for. On my daughter's 16th birthday, she wanted to spend her birthday money at her favorite store, Ulta. She drove us happy as can be to Ulta at South Shore Alameda CA. Horrible experience, we sat in the car after leaving shocked and upset, I kept apologizing to my daughter. I give 2 stars for customer service. I live in alameda, every time I get a quick run in there, I get the rudest person. Idk what it is about all the Ulta's, from Fremont to Dublin but they certainly aren't friendly. I can be in there for 45 mins walking around, seeing the same employees and none of them bother asking if I need any help or not. Other than that, they sell low to brand name products. Got my hair done at the Ulta salon a couple months ago. I went in to get an ash blonde balayage highlights but that is not what I got. My appointment was with some guy who's name I forgot and don't really care to remember did my hair. He assured me that he had lots of experience doing hair, five or so years worth. However, I find that hard to believe. I left the salon with blotchy, not well blended highlights that were brassy and absolutely not ash blonde. I have been shopping at Ulta for years, and was glad when this one opened in Alameda. Ulta is my one stop shop for everything I need and I love their regular sales and specials. I would usually give a 4 or 5 star review, but the 3 stars in this review reflects a recent salon service. A couple of days after the store opened, I visited Ulta for a gel manicure. The customer service was great, although the manicure took a little long in my opinion, and my nails looked great following the service. However, 2 days after receiving the manicure, the gel polish began to lift around the edges. Gel manicures should last longer than 2 days. Normally I would have gone in and had them repair it, except I was out of town for a wedding (the whole reason I got the manicure). I had to go get the manicure redone before the wedding. My Ulta manicure was a total waste of time and money! I think from now on I'll continue to go to one of Alameda's many other nail salons where I can get a manicure and pedicure for the same price. read more

I used to work at a place JUST like this, so imagine my shock and surprise with after 20min of walking around (spending a few min in each dept), not one person approached me to ask if I needed help. And then when I actually did have questions (about blow dryers, which I had been testing for a while- so there was obviously noise to notify an employee a customer is checking out blow dryers), I couldn't find anyone. As if that wasn't bad enough, I did have to buy a clinique product (bc it's the only place in Alameda that does have clinique), and the lady at the cash register was so rude! I couldn't believe it. When I worked in the beauty industry, we were taught that customer service is number one! So instead, I walked on over to the Beauty Center (just behind Ulta, next to Jamba Juice), a family owned business with wonderful customer service, and spent $175 thanks to their black friday sale. Never going into this Ulta again. Oh and it was not a busy day either, that's why I was even more shocked at the lack of customer service. And it seemed like a CVS and Sephora squished into one store- odd. Also, several of their things were cheaper elsewhere. read more

I went to Ulta at Southshore in Alameda CA, on Wednesday morning May 24 2023. I am a straight man, but have a condition on my face that I like to cover up. I went in and asked for some help, and I was directed to a young lady named "Milko". Well, this lady was absolutely fantastic! What an immense amount of help she was! She was courteous, very knowledgeable, and worked with me to find the right product for what I needed. I have to say that this lady was a real pleasure to deal with! And I have to admit, that it didn't hurt that she was totally beautiful as well! I mean, WOW! So I left there very much happy with my purchase. I went in, hoping to not be embarrassed, as a man wanting a little help for his face. I left there, comfortable in the knowledge that Ulta had hired a really wonderful sales consultant, and it was a very reassuring thing to know that indeed, there IS still some good quality customer service out there, even in 2023! I usually really like Ulta. They have a wide variety of products and generally pleasant staff. I go to the Ulta Salon to get my hair cut by Chris. He is fantastic and gives awesome head massages during the shampoo. I have curly hair and he is very attentive to the way I style it and uses products FOR curly hair. He has always listened to what I wanted and has thrown in cool ideas that I usually liked. I have had my hair done by him twice and both times I have come out VERY pleased with my cut! The first time was a walk in and the second was an appointment. I highly recommend getting your hair cut by Chris, whether you have curly, straight, wavy, whatever hair. His prices are fair and well worth the money! I'm giving this Ulta two stars because of my last experience there. I had a hair appointment at 4pm and it was on time. A few minutes after my hair had been washed and Chris had started cutting, the phones started ringing and he had to leave two or three times to answer them because there was no other staff to do it. I was okay with it at first, but then customers started coming up and asking questions and scheduling appointments. Each time, Chris had to stop cutting my hair to tend to these customers. I was a little irked because I had to be at work at 5pm. I was disappointed that there were no other staff to be doing these tasks, therefor cutting into the time I had made for my appointment. In the whole hour, I think we had lost about 15 minutes of my appointment due to the lack of staff. While I will go back to get cut by Chris, I will obviously have to make more time in my window in case these issues come up again. read more

Who knew there was a little Dermalogica spa at Ulta?! First of all I love Dermalogica because they have fused relaxation with serious skincare. The treatment based take home regimes are effective and simple. I love the synergy of the straight forward approach and how it's blended with the decadence of the spa experience. Rachel is the new Dermalogica Esthetician and she is such an amazing skin therapist. What I like about Rachel is her thorough training in Dermalogica skincare. She uses relaxing techniques that tickle and feel oh so relaxing at the same time as using treatment based massage techniques. Acupressure and lymphatic drainage are so important to relieve congestion and to soothe inflammation; I appreciate that she knows these techniques. I have followed Rachel for the past few years. She is warm and soothing with a wealth of skincare knowledge sure to suit your needs. Highly recommended. read more

Clients should know how much service is to be done and if it's to pricey .. Believe me.... they will tell u.. I felt rush because I knew what time she was leaving and because I wanted to get my hair colored and trim, I knew it was going to take longer. I needed to get my hair cut so I said okay cut.. Even that was all choppy. I had went to a different hairstylist to color my hair & she showed me the back of my hair & OMG. It was in blocks & didn't Blend in the front. I didn't see it because they style after. As I was walking around also, this worker was so pissed she was talking shit about someone.. They don't really have much stock either. read more
