I am so excited that this place is here. I can't believe it took me this long to go inside. It's like Sephora, but bigger, and they have a wider range of products, including "low-end" products you would find at the drugstore, like Revlon. Hooray! I'm so happy! No more driving to that godawful mall in Emeryville only to have to stop at Walgreens on the way home. This place has everything. As a bonus, the staff were all really knowledgeable (again, so so much better than the Sephora in Emeryville), and available to help. I got plenty of assistance picking out products. AND, I don't know why but I got a sweet bonus sample to take home -- decently sized eye cream, and an entire tube of lipstick. Totally wasn't expecting that. read more

Location-wise this Ulta is a gem. Situated in South Shore Center, which is surrounded by various stores and eateries - if you're in the area and need to grab some makeup, brushes, etc. it's not a bad place to stop by. One thing I would have to say is that this store is very spacious and feels very open. You don't feel congested when you walk in, there's room to breathe (which is always nice in my personal opinion). They have a variety of products that range from drugstore to somewhat higher end, which is nice because personally I feel like that really provides a good balance and helps you decide whether or not you want something based on your given budget. As many yelpers before me have mentioned, this location does run frequently low on certain items and if it's not on the floor or out on display, there's a good chance that they do not have it in the back, but it doesn't hurt to ask! I feel like it's fine that not everything is always in stock because it shows what's popular and I mean...if it's popular you can bet that it's not going to be in stock for long once they do restock....(just saying) HOWEVER this could be one of those to each one's own scenarios. Save yourself some heartache and just go in thinking there's a 75% chance the item won't be in stock so that if it's there you can do a little happy dance. The biggest issue I had with this location was that there were not enough staff members on the floor to really monitor or ask anyone if they needed help. One staff member asked my sister and I if we needed any assistance. At the time we didn't need any help AND she was also doing the makeup for a client (I'm assuming) so it was one of those situations where it was like...Okay, so if I really needed any help would I want to take you away from what you're doing and that client's time? Personal opinion....No, I would not. It should be noted, however, that the staff member was sweet and good vibes/intentions were felt. NONETHELESS, more staff accommodating to customers on the floor would be nice when there's quite a bit of customers....I'm not into the whole hover staff peoples' but I mean having one extra person wouldn't be so bad. But overall, none of the staff members were rude and good vibes were felt. (Not sure if this was just dependent on the time and day we went...) In comparison to the San Leandro location to all you Benefit lovers, my sister noted to me that they had a much bigger selection here in Alameda. TIP: If you haven't already, sign up for their free rewards card so you can rack up some points and redeem them for stuffs later and plus, you get emails with their deals and what-not. read more

Strange experience. I decided to try Ulta b/c I thought they may have different stock then Sephora. I was wrong and ultimately did not buy anything. I went in on a quiet Saturday with a specific lists of products. The only person to ever acknowledge me was the security guard. He followed me for a couple of minutes then fell away. Probably bc it was obvious I was seriously looking for several products. Here was the strangest thing: the girls that worked the store openly stared at me, but never offered any help. Never said anything. Just stared. There was even one girl splayed on the floor peeking up at me. It was hella creepy. Are Ulta staff intimidated by their customers? Or is this early Halloween? My boo who I came in with eventually offered to help and would ask sales associates about products. It was so quiet and unorganized they might have asked where the nearest OBGYNs office was. This ULTA is a hit or miss with me. The girls there are either helpful or not. 8 times out of 10, I'll find what I need and then there are times when I have to go out to the other ULTA location which is in Fremont. That's annoying for me because I work in Alameda so it's much more convenient for me to come to this one. The store itself is clean and mostly organized. I have no gripes about that. The only thing is the service. Like I said. The girls that work here are either helpful or they're not. I actually prefer ULTA over Sephora because not everything is overpriced. I'll be a tad honest and say there are some things I'd rather go to Target for but I mean, you get points for every dollar you spend with the ULTAmate rewards card - which is great. I love that they have nail polishes on clearance because I'm a nail polish hoarder. Anyways, this ULTA is A-OK. It's the service that might need help every once in a while. read more

This review is specifically for the Ulta Dermalogica facial with Vidi. I've been a regular customer with Vidi for about 5 months now. During this time I did 3-session peel, few skin clearing (acne) facial, and few of the mini facial. Vidi is very nice lady and very knowledgable about skincare, she answers all my questions about taking care of my acne-prone skin, providing suggestion on what I should try, not trying to sell me Dermalogica product (though during the peel I did receive treatment kit and fell in love with a couple things). Her technique is great, I usually ended up falling asleep during the process, even during acne extraction. I just recently found out she also does makeup so I will be trying that with her as well soon. read more

Went to Ulta for my 1st time around June to get my haircut. I had no idea who my hair stylist was. Her name was Vanessa. She introduced herself very politely. I explained to her that I wanted a comb over haircut, she listened clearly and even gave some feed back about what she thought. She explained the process of what she was going to do to see if I agreed or not. I agreed with everything and she began. An hour went by and she was finished. I was a little nervous about how it came out but once she turned that chair around I was shocked. I fell in love with my haircut. It was great. She did an amazing job, took her time and I give her 5 stars! The haircut was a little pricey but was totally worth paying that much for. Just booked my next appointment with her for July. read more

Ulta is a great store and to me, is similar Sephora but a lot more affordable! You definitely get a lot more bang for your buck!The closest store used to be in Dublin for me so I was pretty stoked when I found out Alameda was getting one! Location is super convenient near the entrance of the shopping center. Parking is free and plentiful. They offer full hair salon services and a Benefit Brow Bar - Nina is great and attentive! I was apprehensive getting my first eyebrow wax but she assured me she'll be gentle and it really didn't hurt much! There's always specials and coupons...I also like their special events! For Breast Cancer Awareness Month - they did a Cut-a-Thon for a $10 donation (wash and dry). My stylist did a great job and even gave me some quick layers upon request :D Staff are always friendly and helpful with any questions you have regarding products. I have been coming here for 2 years. Started with one stylist but when she left i switched to Brendan. They do an amazing job. My favorite thing to do is to go in and get my hair color put in then walk around the store while the color is setting and buy my make up. He has always given me what I want and he is honest when i ask for something that i want that he knows won't work for me. The best part of Ulta are the rewards points you can get. I get so many points that i rarely have to pay for perfume. I would highly recommend this store. read more

I don't have a lot of reasons to go to Ulta, but I really wanted to try and get my beard under control and I thought I could find a couple of things to help me at Ulta! Was greeted immediately and was asked what I was looking for. After demonstrating how crazy my beard looked, I was helped by Brendan, who was helpful and funny and polite! I very rarely if ever leave a negative review. But after the experience I had today at this Ulta location , I had to come to Yelp and see if I was the only one. Unfortunately I'm sad to say that I see many reviews that mirror my experience today.I had an order pick-up for item I placed my order at about 9:30am. I got an email notifying me it was ready for pickup at 11am, I didn't head over to the store until 3 hours later at around 2:30. I arrive and the lady at the register is all the way in the corner putting away things. As I walk up to the counter she looks up at me and with just annoyance in her voice she goes "can I help you?" I kindly reply that I am just here for an order pickup. Ok so we walk over to the designated order pick up area. She says nothing but "can you show me your Id" ok I do and I also pull up the email that states my order is ready. She doesn't bother to look she just starts to look for my item. She doesn't find it so she looks at me and goes "what's your name again", then proceeds to ask me who ordered the product and if I was picking up from someone else because she can't find my name. I tell her that I had ordered it on my ulta app and it was under my account and I had no designated pick-up person only myself. While she looks I tell her what I had ordered and she goes "I don't know what you got I need a name , I can't see in the bags" she then tells me "are you sure your orders ready let me see the email?" I proceed to show her my email and the location , the whole entire time she avoids eye contact with me and all she tells me is she can't find my name. So I just simply asked her what she would like me to do , I also noticed a line forming and told her if she like to help down customers I can wait for her. At that point she just kinda huffs and says "I'll just grab it now" comes back tosses it and and bag and hands it to me. I'm so sorry but I have never felt more uncomfortable in my life. I felt as if I was disturbing her by just trying to pickup and item that said it was ready. I also felt a bit insulted , I use order pickup quite often both at ulta and my usual store Sephora, but the way this lady acted as if I didn't know what I was doing just threw me completely off. I myself work in the service industry (barista) and I get we all have off days but I just felt the whole interaction was rude and made me not want to return to Ulta. The many times I've done order pickups at Sephora in many different locations I have never had such horrible customer service. read more

Came into Ultra Beauty earlier today as soon as I walked in there was a woman standing near the door that work there, I asked her about a skin product called Urban skin RX, and did they have it in the store and she looked at me in my face and told me that they didn't carry it. I asked her was she sure and I repeated the name and she said she never heard of it and they didn't carry it in the store. so I said okay. and I walked around the store anyway just to make sure on my own and there you have it I found it I just don't understand why do people hire lazy workers. if she wasn't sure and her mind that the store didn't carry it she should've at least double checked with someone. she's making the store lose out on a sale because she don't want to go look or double check just to make sure. and I had to go find it on my own, no help at all.. please hire better workers that actually like their job that actually want to help a person find a beauty product.. and not just dismiss because they don't want to look or ready to go home, whatever the case was she made the store miss out on a sale. read more

She also kept on glaring at us like we were going to steal something making us feel overall uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Must have been 8 workers in the store. Watched 2 women load up their backpacks with products and walk out. No one else noticed. Had any of workers paid any attention to me I might have mentioned it. When I went to the register one worker completely ignored me while having a personal call. I'm almost Sure she was the manager. Another worker came up and noticed me but walked off. The poor service and staffing issues on the retail side continues to appall me. Which is why despite these awesome cosmetologists, it gets a single star. Ulta is only there on my shopping list because I use Paul Mitchell and they have the coupons. Good luck trying to get someone on the phone these days. I don't care if it's late, it's still 30 minutes to an hour before closing and not even an employee picks up and says: please hold. Been like this for over a week! I even talked to the GM and she said she called in a work order. Lady, please realize the holiday season means stuff shouldn't be glitching to that point and putting it off is not ok. As with your typical Ulta, dirty floors no sales associate on the floor pretty much and sometimes I have to flag someone to be at the register. Store happens to have theft issues in the past. Just left this Ulta, not a good visit because the security watched me the entire time I was shopping for skincare. I work for Sephora and I would have shopped there but ulta has the brand I need. Anyways being an employee at Sephora I know how you are supposed to handle client that could be stealing and hovering over them and watching them from the other aisle is not PROPER servicing. Mind you I had no bag just my phone and my wallet nothing more and I'm legit shopping. So what makes me look like I'm going to steal? I even got tired of him watching me and walked right in front of him to look at brushes to let him know I know he's watching me. He then moves to the opposite aisle and continues to watch me which I find pointless. At that point I decide that this ulta doesn't need my money and I left. Their security needs to learn how to properly approach these type of situation. Not ok. Especially sense he was following us me and not even paying any attention to the people's the front of the store which makes me feel like I was singled out for some weird reason. read more

After reading about how great the service was for brow care here, I decided to give it a try. I was tended to by Christina and she was amazing in every way! She was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. She received a phone call and even though I told her she was free to get it, she stated she didn't like to leave in the middle of work. My skins super sensitive and normally after getting brow work done my brows are irritated, not with the treatment I got here! Ended up spending a lot of money in the store as well, and can't say I have had a bad experience here yet. Great location. :) read more

I love this ulta! Immediately when I come in someone always greets me (good sales point) and employees are always attentive and asking if I need anything or have questions. If they don't have something in stock they will look to double check their inventory and usually they have what I need! Other ulta stores have nothing on this one in the Bay Area. More like a 3.5 for me, really. I don't find the staff rude at all. In fact, I started coming here when it first opened and dropped a lot of dough the first few times I visited. One of the managers there, I think her name is Anjelica, helped me with my very purchase there, and I swear, still smiles warmly at me and remembers me to this day. I think there's something to be said about that since I don't even come as often as before! Yes, their stock can use some help. I'll give it to you there. Too many times are they out of stock or low on products. I don't really buy too much make up, so I guess that doesn't bother me but I suppose it would if I wore it often. General up keep also needs a boost, like maintaining all the "vanity" areas and making sure tissues, make up removers, qtips, etc are fully stocked. They seem to have a hard time keeping a general flow to this store which I think is the chaos people feel in here. A tidy, full stocked store does wonders especially if you're in the market of COSMETICS. Just sayin' + for the sweet staff + points rack up quick and are redeemable + they carry a nice array of products (so long as it's in stock!) read more

Brennen and Fatima are so generous and kind. Fatima did a 60 minute Facial, and I am serious when I say I have a never felt my skin so soft and I have yet to mention I didn't know how I should be washing my face, but thankfully Fatima came to my rescue and introduced me to the products she was using on my face while doing my facial. OK, I get the gripes about there not being a HUGE selection, but this store is limited in size and couldn't possibly stock every item they carry online! This is where I go for specific brands/selections that I like such as Fekkai (cheaper than other stores) and Too Faced. Otherwise, I order online. I found the salespeople very friendly - I was asked if I needed help finding anything, but not pestered. The woman at the register was friendly and personable. I've never seen this store messy or unorganized, and it's very easy to find what you're looking for as everything is clearly designated. Horrible Customer Service! So where do I begin? Let's start with the initial call. I called to speak with a stylist that was familiar with transitioning/natural hair and who had immediate appointments. I was then placed on hold to speak with Kevin who they stated was familiar with natural and wash and go hairstyles. I spoke with him for about 5-7 minutes detailing what I was looking looking for as explained my current hair situation. He then told me he had a 3:30 for this Sunday (6/11) and I told him I could only do 4pm as I work the appointment time he had for that day. He then tells me that 4pm WILL BE OKAY and I have gave him all my info such as F&L name/DOB/Address etc that he asked for to set the appointment. I did think it was unusual that he asked for all that info since I've been to other Ulta without this issue, but I gave it to him anyway being naive. Skip to today (6/11) I call to let him know that I'm on my way and to ask if there were any haircare products needed that Ulta might not carry for the hairstyle I was seeking. Just to find out that I don't have an appointment and someone had cancelled it! I ask to speak with a manager and spoke with someone who said they were the AM of the salon which I've never heard of and that he was sorry about the mishap. Seriously, dude this is NOT professional and just downright bad customer service and not to mention RUDE! They didn't offer me any other services for the inconvenience or even let me talk to Kevin to find out what happen to my appointment. Today is a Sunday where I'm the hell are you going find a stylist in the evening?! I felt not valued and brushed off by everyone at that location. It's truly sad when places like Ulta are suppose to be a safe haven for women (and men) to come and feel/get beautiful and I couldn't do that today. Now I have to wait another 3 days to go see my normal stylist and be very self conscious of my hair and uncomfortable. I can guarantee that this will be the last time Ulta gets ANY of my money as a Platinum member. Sephora is my new location even if it is more expensive due to be customer service! And I'll go to my usual stylist who actually cares. I will be contacting corporate tomorrow to address this situation as well as I noticed people don't care about bad service until you hurt there wallets! read more

I went with a person who was being waxed at the waxing bar. I had a lot of time. They followed me around the store like I was doing something wrong. The only thing I did was have the audacity to look bored while browsing their empty shelves. I didn't even have a purse/bag or jacket with me. I'm not sure what caused them to believe I was planning anything nefarious. Then they called security into the store to watch. Since I've worked retail and know full well no one wants people meandering around at closing when they are trying to go home but this location had the doors locked when the sign states they are open until 9pm. I was hanging out with my sister and after spending the previous night watching several makeup tutorials on you tube we thought it would be a great ideal to stop into Ulta to get the makeup to recreate the looks. I've been to this store several times and I will NEVER be back. After picking up some items and browsing the shelves I realized the security guard was following me. At every corner of the store whenever I looked up she was there. She wasn't even monitoring the store or paying attention to all the other shoppers. I even went backwards to a previous shelf and the African American woman security guard went back to the aisle. Some products you have to pick up from the bottom of the shelf or the tester would be at the bottom...looking for the eye liners which are at the bottom of the display and than boom ....black security guard is there. I don't know what her deal is or why she felt the need to profile me and my sister and follow me onto ever aisle on my 45 minute shopping trip there. There is no reason to blantantly and aggressively stand in every aisle either me or my sister went down. There is no pint in spending hundreds of dollars on makeup in establishments like this. My purse and entire outfit cost more than the few pieces of items I had in my hand it didn't make sense. But maybe because I'm black she felt she needed to profile me. Is that a policy at your store? Please tell me if it is so I can put the word out and tell people of color not so shop there I put down the majority of my purchases back on the shelf and purchased just a few things I needed than and there and complained to the lady at check out that shopping there is very uncomfortable. I'm really surprised the security guard didn't follow me to the checkout line, I was looking up expecting her to be there. The employees at this location were nice but being harassed and followed around the store was not. I will never shop at this establishment again and will cancel my store card the next business day ....so thank you for saving me $300 today in purchases I couldn't even make and thank you for helping me realize that you don't want business from me or people who look like me. If management is reading this you need to fire that security guard because ALL my friends who regularly shop here will definitely hear about this. If you are a person of color please do not shop at this location, they profile you for no reason at all and security follows you all over the store.
