I find it amazing how much women spend on makeup and skin care products. And it's similarly amazing how much men spend on makeup and skin care products as gifts for women. Today was a visit with my daughter for Christmas presents (yeah, this review is a little late) for my wife. I was here to do the driving and the paying, carrying the basket as my daughter plucked product after product off the shelves and into the basket. Oy, vey. She stuck to brand names I had heard of or at least ones I've seen in my wife's makeup palette so it wasn't cheap but it is all high quality stuff and that's likely reflected in the price tag. I had originally asked for a purple with black sort of gradient hair. I was in the chair for a good 4 plus hours. I think the purple may have sat too long and bled with the black that was applied to the top of my head? The purple was ONLY noticeable in sunlight at best and Grace informed me the longer it stayed in the longer it would last and I'll see the color more after some washes. Needless to say it has been about 2 weeks and the color is gone? It's not what I asked for. The color I asked for will be posted first so you guys can compare. And yes I use the correct shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. I just read a review from a lady who said that no one speaks to her when she comes into the store, will speak to customers of another race behind her. As a black woman, I've never had this experience, they always speaks to me... until today. when I walked in, there were two employees standing at the door, talking one of them turned and looked at me and turned around and kept talking, neither one of them spoke. I had a disappointing experience at this Ulta location on 12/1 @4:40. I came in to exchange a Dior perfume, and the person assisting me had an unprofessional attitude throughout the interaction. This is a decent store with several beauty hair care nail care and body care items. This store has a shared parking lot in a shopping center. The prices are a bit high but they have a rewards program. You can also order online. The customer service is lacking where people don't speak when they see you or offer any help. The line is long typically which deters me from coming. Frequently there is no one to help if you have a question. They could benefit from hiring a full staff or educating those who are working in customer service. They also have a hair care station. When I visit a salon I usually have my hair roots touched up, hair cut in layers and then dried. In my first to Ulta Beauty Waverly I informed the hairdresser of the precise color used on my blond hair for touch up on my hair roots, which were gray. She chose the wrong color, and thus the root touch up was done incorrectly, in a very dark brown tone. I pointed out, immediately when she started,, that color looked wrong, but hairdresser ignored me and completed it, resulting in a pronounced 2 layer tonality which is gross. First inch or two of hair at scalp is colored medium brown, with rest of hair is a medium blond tone. When I called general manager Claudette the next day to register my complaint, i was set up with appointment for hair color correction with male hairdresser who was only available on Friday evening, at 5 pm. I have been getting my hair done with Mr. Sam and he just amazes me. He is so good my husband and my sister have now become his clients as well! The staff is kind and Jennifer did a GREAT JOB waxing my husbands eyebrows for the first time! My husband loves Sam because he doesn't just buzz his hair away, he really takes his time and uses only scissors which just looks so awesome. Nice new shopping area by Providence. I was greeted and the employees were all friendly with a smile, and eager to help. Never once did I felt discomfort as I've previously had at an Ulta location that's nearby. I used to be a frequent shopper there but I will surely prefer to come to this location instead. It's Ulta which is a woman Happy Place for any and everything from hair to nails to make up to perfume to sampling beauty goodies. This new location is awesome as it's conveniently located on Providence in a shopping center that is soon to be my new FAV as they are opening all of my FAVORITE places in one location much closer to our home than the other locations of these places including but not limited to WHOLE FOODS, Panera Bread, etc.. WE happen to visit while BareMinerals was having a Beauty event which was perfect because my teenager is a Senior in H.S and will be going on Prom and has never worn make-up so we let them try some looks out on her face. I also met Rose who is the Brow expert and she filled in my eyebrows which was perfect as I had datenight with my husband the same day. I made an appointment with her for the next day to have a BrowMap and Brow services completed. I will say I wrote a tip about having an appointment and having to wait. I still stand by that as I'm a business woman and I like to arrive at least 5-10min before my appointment (just in case I can get in early) and at least be in the seat at the start of my appointment and in this case I wasn't in the seat until 15 minutes after my appointment time as there was someone who was a walk in in the seat. I made another appointment for next month and will be there beforehand again as I give at least 2 chances before I just stop trying and hopefully I can get in the seat on time. I really like Rose she is personable and good at her job. I am a huge fan of Ulta & this is a great new location for them. I was in the week before Christmas & found that this store was stocked with everything on my shopping list. On my visit, the employees I encountered were friendly & helpful. Also, I didn't have to wait long in line to checkout, which was nice. Since the new Waverly shopping center hasn't been completed yet, getting in & out was pretty easy. However, once the shopping center is completely developed, this is likely to be a very busy location. Still, for me, it's easier than going to the Stonecrest location. This location in particular ALWAYS makes me regret waking through the door. No one greets me. Yet, when someone of another race walks in right behind me or before me, they're greeted immediately. That's UNACCEPTABLE!! No one offers to assist me even if I'm walking around clearly looking for something. However, again, when someone of another race is walking around, I see them getting approached and asked if they need help. I've often been directed to the wrong place when I've run someone down asking where something is. I made an appointment at the Salon here for a root touch up. Everything went on time, and the stylist, Tammy, matched my hair very well. Overall my roots were covered, and were a very close match to my hair. The bad. Nothing put on my hairline to prevent color bleed, would not color my eyebrows, shampoo was a nightmare. I have never had such a torturous shampoo...this is usually when you relax the most! She shampooed the first time and raked through my hair over and over...painful!! Then a second time, same thing. During this painful experience, recommended a conditioning treatment...saying that was the reason for all the pulling and that I was 'shedding'. HELLO? You're literally pulling the hair out of my head! I have never, ever had someone do that to my hair with shampoo only. Quite frankly, I never want to experience it again. Finally some conditioner, which of course was much easier. No head massage, absolutely the worst experience I've ever had in my lifetime for a simple shampoo. This is certainly NOT how you treat wavy/curly hair...or any hair for that matter. Then came time for 'styling'. She asked how I wanted it styled, and I said leave-in condtioner and some gel. I had to repeat this three times between the shampoo area and the chair. She pulled out a leave-in conditioner from a drawer, and then was randomly pulling bottles to find a gel. She took the first one she found, didn't matter if it was suitable for my hair. At that point I just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Back to Modern Salon and Spa. Not a good experience! I went there today Saturday at 1130, a weekend and after the store has been opened for an hour and half. While there were several associates just casually walking around w baskets in aisles doing small things w merchandise, there is a line, well 2 lines forming.. one in the middle and people at the side of the store in that lane, waiting to be checked out, while there is 1 cashier moving very slowly and never even looked up at all of us waiting and how many people, different lines. I was waiting 10 minutes almost and was hoping someone would come and help ring. No one acknowledged whatsoever. Other lady next to me in line said, this is ridiculous, where is everyone. I finally put my items back and left. I then called the store, asked to speak w management, i spoke a Camille that said she was the store manager, and i couldn't believe how rude and unprofessional she was. Her first response when i told her everything was, with a chuckle, i mean I'm sorry you had to wait in line longer than expected and didn't say anything after that. I said really?! That is your response?? She said well i mean, i guess I'm trying to understand what you are saying or are upset about. I thought again, for real, what is so hard to understand about that and why would you have said sorry if you didn't understand. That appeared alll the more unprofessional. Then when i said, well i mean if it's that hard to understand, I'll call corporate, maybe they will understand. She then hit more apologetic, and acknowledged what happened, said, I'll go over w my team, they should have reached out for help if a lot of people waiting etc, I'm sorry you had a bad experience, is there anything i can do to make it better? She said well next time you are in id love to help you w product. That was her offering, for my time coming out there, waiting, putting product back, and taking time to call!! Last Saturday, November 16th, I decided to get an eyebrow trim by Jasmine. Jasmine cut me right below my eyebrow. I normally get my eyebrows trimmed here but that was the last time. Normally I have a wonderful experience at the location in Stonecrest, but decided to give this location a try since it is more convenient to my home. I have visited this location a few times and on almost all occasions the customer service has been sub par. I live close by and try to go during weekday afternoons to avoid waiting in line. There always seem to be staff walking around the store then only 1 person working the checkout area while a line of several ladies wait patiently. When I finally got to the register, the person waiting on me was not friendly. I had to ask her for the promotional gift offered online with my makeup purchase. She knew nothing about it, could not find it and then told me they must have already run out! I questioned how that could be as the promotion only started a day earlier. The other location in Charlotte at Ikea is super nice always helped my girls pick out the correct eyeshadow and blush. This location, unhelpful very unfriendly. Not one employee helped us, they were too busy yapping with each other. One daughter needed a price on tarte blush so she had to go hunt someone down. After oh, 15 min m, I get an employee to walk her butt over and tell me I can't have a Whole Food buggy in the store. I told her they don't have any buggies. Of course she doesn't care about that fact. I left my stroller in our mountain house so I thought, why not use the same buggy i used at Whole Fiods!? I've ditched Sephora (even though I am a VIP Rouge) for Ulta. The lighting is better- you can see how products look in natural light. With no exception, every staff member is wonderful. I especially appreciate when a brand ambassador helps me find a good shade of foundation, even if it's out of her brand. The manager is excellent- she is able to handle multiple things at once. On a busy Saturday, the line was very long, but it was efficient, and I waited maybe three minutes to be checked out. I've done retail and restaurant jobs, so I may be a bit picky about store and places to eat. That being said, I love this Ulta, and will come back again and again. read more

I purchased a hair growth topical spray in September for about $40. I used it till January, and saw no results. I don't know about you but $40 is money I don't have to waste. I tried to return it to the Waverly Ulta and was told it had been too long to return. I don't know what they expect, hair growth topical spray would take a while to work/try/see results... I left the store annoyed went to the Ulta at Stonecrest, and they returned it at pro-rated cost of about $35 with no issue.... I will not be returning to Ulta at Waverly. read more

Poorest customer service I've ever experienced. The African-American manager has a nasty tone and isn't helpful. The cashiers don't tell you your point balance unless you ask which is rude considering some people may not know how many points they've accumulated. I made a huge purchase and could've gotten $27 off with my points but I wasn't told. It's sad! Not all Ulta locations carry a varied amount of products for darker skin and the Waverly location does.
