I love Ulta and have a huge problem overspending there. That being said the last 3 times I have been to this location is enough to never make me go to it again. The last two times I was shamed about not having their credit card even though I am diamond. I don't care if I tell you no please respect that. I get they need to ask but I don't need to be berated at the register about how I'm losing money. I was told I spend so much money I should have the credit card. Please don't talk to me about my spending habits. Yesterday I literally went in because I had to pee and was thinking about browsing after. Restrooms were closed so I was going to go in the lobby one and come back. But the cashier who was checking out a customer paused to ask me if I couldn't find what I was looking for and stopped checking the person out. It caught me so off guard I was halfway out the store. Of course it was one the employees who got on me for not having an ulta credit card. Plus you were already doing something. I stopped into this Ulta beauty location before picking up some food at Bibibop. This location in Kenwood is surrounded by pretty busy businesses. On a Friday night, I felt like there were several people checking out the stores and that parking lot was packed! I usually check out the Ulta beauty in Deerfield TowneCenter, as that is a bit closer to my house. Since I was in the area, I decided to stop in and pick up a few items I needed. What I liked best about this location was that the staff let me browse. Sometimes, I feel like the staff swarms any guest and does not give you any space, as they are looking to sell you something. I did not feel that way in this location. An employee did stop by as I was looking at eyeliner. I asked a question, and she answered. She gave me her advice and told me about a product she would purchase, and then she left. I did not feel like she was pushing any specific product on me, and I appreciated the space to browse. I was offered a credit card at the cashier line. I feel like they always do this, and some cashiers are a little pushy... I was asked a few questions after I declined the credit card, but for the most part, I was not hounded. If you were looking for a specific items or a place to purchase all beauty products--it's a great spot to peruse. If you are looking for new things to try, I love that Ulta let's you play with make-up or smell the various perfumes. They're a little pricy on some things but I do love that all beauty items are under one roof. Average experience--a quick in and out for me! read more

Terrible customer service and management has no brain!!! My daughter bought a $14 serum from this location and the box was empty. When I went in to explain what happened the rude and inept "manager" told me there was nothing she could do bc I couldn't prove that the box was empty. I could not believe how unhelpful, rude and brainless this "manager" and the other manager in her ear, who refused to come up front handled the situation. I have spent thousands of dollars at Ulta but from now on I will take all my business elsewhere. Customer service is important and acting dumb and unaccommodating in a day and age where brick and mortar stores are closing left and right isn't the best strategy for keeping your job. I have never in my life been so terribly treated by anyone on the retail world. Shame on Ulta for hiring and allowing such inept people to represent the company. read more

This place has almost EVERYTHING! You name it, they got it. Name brand cosmetics, hair/nail products, hair accessories, etc. Just like Sephora, you can test out some of the products before you buy. They have a salon (which I have not tried), Benefit Brow bar, store specials, rewards program, and coupons you can print out or come in the mail. The only thing I don't like about the coupons are some products are excluded. For instance, I use Bare Minerals and they will not accept coupon for that brand. I was in this Ulta recently to pick up a couple of items that I was running out of and needed. I'm always greeted as soon as I walk in the store and offered help in finding what I need. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful. Ulta carries both high-end makeup and low-end makeup. I shop at both Ulta and Sephora. Some things are only available in store at each store and both stores have exclusives. Example, Sephora doesn't carry Morphe or ColourPop and Ulta doesn't carry KatVonD products. Both stores carry Tarte products but only Ulta carries the Tarte Busy Gal Brows. Ulta reward points will let you get money off and Sephora only lets you get trial size products with points. But I'm VIB at Sephora so I get the option of extra items when ordering online and Sephora has much better birthday gifts. The reward points system is where I recently had some issues with Ulta, though. My reward points from in store shopping would never post to my account when I checked online. Then the 2x-5x point coupons that were sent to my emails and added to my account would never be added when I shopped in the store. I've tried to get it straighten out multiple times while in the store but to no avail. Finally, after shopping online yesterday and placing an order, I contacted their online customer service. Apparently I have two accounts because my address was wrong on the account that I had signed up for in store. When I initially logged into Ulta to online shop awhile back it made a 2nd account because it was a different address. I was told to check the addresses and make sure they matched exactly and then they would merge the two accounts into one account. Wow! What a huge mistake. The lady that signed me up in store, while so nice and friendly, had completely mangled my address. Due to a language barrier she had misunderstood me when I gave her my address and mistyped it. Actually, my street name wasn't even real words! Seriously, they weren't real words. I'm lucky my online orders have made it to me. I corrected the mistake and finally, after well over a year of issues and multiple attempts to get this fixed, it is fixed. The only problem is that all the times that I should have had points multiplied by 2x-5x when shopping in the store were never applied and I've lost out on a lot of reward points. It's also why my coupons didn't apply and I was unable to save money on items. This Ulta location's staff is a joke. I just placed a CALL to this location and had an ultimate WTF moment. I'm not wasting a lot of time and words on such a bitchy-ass store because it doesn't deserve a think piece on how underqualified but entitled their makeup girls are, but suffice to stay I will avoid this location. I'll take my cash and increase the hourly sales at any other Ulta location. I'm a platinum member blahblahblah which just means I spend too much money at Ulta and allow them to track what I buy in exchange for perks and coupons. One of these perks is free samples of prestige brand cosmetics, etc. The annoying problem is that stores seem to always be woefully under-stocked with these samples, however they have ALWAYS kindly allowed a substitute free sample of another product because, well, it's Ulta corporate's underwriters' fault for not properly calculating the amount of free samples attributable to the number of platinum members that they email about these rewards. I didn't want to make that trip for a Becca product just for them to be out, so I called the Kenwood location and asked if they had any samples remaining: of course they didn't. So I asked my routine follow-up question of what other samples did they have available that they would sub instead. The register girl or whatever her title was got the nastiest, snotty tone after putting me on hold to "talk to her manager" (seriously, this is hardly a management talking point) and practically sing-sang her response to me "sorryyyyy, no substitutions!" CLICK. Again, WTF moment and wake-up call about an overpriced Wal-Mart of makeup. To this Ulta location's staff, you're not even CLOSE to the caliber of a Sephora employee. Yet, every time I am assisted by a Sephora employee they wait on and treat me as if they are my personal beauty consultant and I am their prized client. I will not be coming to this location again, so I called this location before I got here asking them if they had a product still in stock, the staff worker responded and told me yes, i asked her how many they had and she CLEARY SAID 2 and I asked her if she could PLEASE HOLD IT FOR ME BC I was coming from west Chester to pick up up... the lady took my first name and last name and my phone number Abs said we will have it on hold for u. Mind you I had already driven to 3 different Ulta's to get to this dumbass location for the stupid manager to first come to me and ask me if I'm finding everything okay and being rude, I let her know I called about some lipsticks and she was okay okay and like walking away, anyways I go to the front to buy the lipsticks I called for, come to find out she never put them on hold... denied telling me she was placing it on hold, stated oh some customer grabbed it while she was there looking to see if we had it to put it on the side. It just shows that this manager obviously is VERY INCONSIDERATE OF THE CUSTOMER AND OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T give a fuck. I wasted my time abs GAS TO COME AND THEY TELL ME THIS BS. If I could give them 0 stars I would!! Made an appointment on my wedding day last month and they got me in the salon for my hair 35 minutes past my appointment time, were unapologetic and I ended up being late getting my hair finished as well! By the time I got back to the ceremony site I had 20 minutes left to do my makeup, nails, lashes & get dressed!! Needless to say, I didn't get to do my lashes or nails...and my makeup wasn't what I wanted it to be on my special day. Not only that but my updo was falling down DURING THE CEREMONY!! I've had to edit all my pictures because the "stylist" did a horrible job. :( The salon management has barely apologized to me and it took over a week to get a refund for my hair appointment. I live almost an hour away and to get my refund I have to travel back to the salon with my receipt to get it. I will NEVER go to ULTA beauty for ANYTHING ever again. This store is a joke and cares nothing about their customers!! STAY AWAY!! UPDATE*** Just thought I would update everyone. Last year they ruined my wedding day. My hairstyle was falling out and they made me late to my own wedding. So on my big day I had horrible hair, hardly any makeup on because I didn't have time to get it done, no lashes didn't have time to do those either. I had set aside over an hour to do my makeup and lashes... That's how late they made me for my wedding!! After fighting with store management about the situation they finally refunded my money over the phone and sent me a little tiny makeup bag for the trouble. That's it. I was getting ready for work when my flat iron died yesterday, so I went to this location instead of my usual since it is across the street from my job. When I made my purchase, I asked the lady helping me if it would be possible to use my new flat iron in their salon area since I had to be at work in 20 minutes and my hair was a train wreck, to say the least. She went above and beyond to help me out. It was so nice NOT to feel like I was inconveniencing her, which is usually how I feel when I ask for any kind of help in department stores anymore. I went to this store to return an item- which I have never done in the past. I often shop at Ulta and always have wonderful experiences. Anyway - I get to the counter and an associate is being trained by another associate and they are both very rude and unwelcoming. I ask for a store credit card and they both ignore me. They process the return, and barely acknowledge me, and then they say ' it's back on your Visa card'. The card I used for this transaction was a visa gift card ( specifically for Ulta and other stores ). When I purchased the item- the cashier asked if I wanted her to throw my card away as it wouldn't be used In the future and I said sure. So back to present day, they hand me the receipt and I'm like ' where is my gift card ' and they are like no it just goes back on your visa that you no longer have because it's a gift card. They call up the manager who tells me multiple times there is nothing she can do. She does apologize- but just tells me to call visa. After 2 hours on the phone with visa- they tell me there is nothing they can do. So now I'm out the item I returned, 35 dollars, and 2-3 hours of my life. I then contact ULTA, and they respond to me and say the store manager will be reaching out. After 3 days I ask when I will hear from the store manager, and they don't respond. I will not shop here again and I urge others not to as well. read more

The staff at Ulta really impressed me tonight! I live ten minutes from the store and called in to see if they had a special brand of lip stain that I've been dying to try. Upon my arrival to pick it up, the gloss that was put on hold for me went missing. Literally everyone working that shift was looking for it (it also happened to be the last one). When they couldn't find it, I was clearly bummed. A young make-up artist came to my rescue and found a shade that was even better, but out of my price range. To remedy the inconvenience, she gave me a 50% discount. The store may be small, but the staff are absolutely stellar. They are the very essence of great customer service! read more

I went to the Ulta to buy a specific eye-shadow primer, buy a duplicate of a smashbox lipstick they carry and to find a lip-liner to match. I was greeted by the cashier immediately and while I was looking for a text where my friend told me which primer she bought there, Denise approached me and asked if she could help. After showing her the text photo, she led me straight to the primer. Next, she took me to the smashbox display for the lipstick I wanted. However, the third item was a little more difficult to find. I had previously bought a liner by smashbox which was supposed to be a good match, but it wasn't at all. Denise looked at all the smashbox liners and agreed with me, but also felt like she could find a better match perhaps in another brand. She took the time to look through several other brands while trying possibles on our hands which she later cleaned. We went to another section of the store and tried those, too. Finally, we went to their Ulta brand and she opened a liner to let me try! Voila, it was a perfect match. As usual when someone goes way above and beyond to help me, I ask to speak to the manager. Turns out she IS the manager so here I am on Yelp letting you know that she is a the perfect public face to represent Ulta in Cincinnati. No, we are not related LOL. Someone there should give her positive affirmations on her work ethic to go to whatever lengths it takes to match a customers need/want with an appropriate product. I felt so strongly that I contacted corporate headquarters before writing this review. Yes, I agree you don't always get service this amazing there, but I'm not sure that I've ever had such outstanding service anywhere! So, 5 stars it is. read more

If I could give this location a 0, I absolutely would. I went in to get a trim and all of hair color to match my natural hair--I walked out with 5 UNEVEN inches off and BLACK HAIR (my natural color is light brown). The hair dresser, Abigail, did not speak to me the entire 2 and a half hours other than to ask me what I wanted to do or to tell me to switch chairs. She was clearly new and nervous--I very well may have been her first client EVER. I stayed patient trying to be positive that it was just a little bit different than I expected. I left with greasy hair because the hair dresser did not wash the conditioner out of my hair, it was jet black, and the most uneven cut you can imagine. I was able to grab handful lengths of hair that she had neglected to cut. I get that everyone starts somewhere, but being that new--this hairdresser needed to be supervised by someone with more experience. I am now out double the money that I originally spend because of all it is taking to fix this mess. After the color and cut (which looked like I had done it myself--in the dark nonetheless) and with sopping wet hair, she asked me "um did you want me to dry it?". After half drying it she put the blow dryer away and said "did you want me to dry it all the way?" Uh guess not. While attempting to check out, 2 managers and the hair dresser did not know how to print off the slip for me to pay. This took 15 minutes to which the one manager finally said, "sorry, we're all new"...as if I couldn't tell that already. Yes, I could have asked them to fix the uneven cut as soon as I got to my car and took a good look at it but I thought I may end up bald if I let this girl anywhere near me with the scissors (that she couldn't hold correctly and had to continually adjust, I think at one point she might have even dropped them) again. When I went back the next day to get my money back, I showed the manager the pictures of what this girl had done to my hair, Tinny I believe her name was, LAUGHED at the pictures. She, along with the other woman that looked to be a manager standing there during my refund, did not apologize once for this god awful experience that I had. Truly, I was so upset by it that I will avoid all Ulta stores and recommend the same to every single person that I know. The disrespect and carelessness of both the employees and management is not worth the couple of dollars you save from shopping at Sephora instead. Went to Ulta on a lunch break and was looking for a product I couldn't find. I saw numerous sales staff walking with headsets on but couldn't get anyone's attention. When I did catch an employee's attention, she looked at me and said " I can help you in a minute" That never happened. Then when I went to pay there were 4 people in line with one cashier! I looked around and there was a congregation of 3 sales people hanging out and talking. Then I asked the only cashier that was working to call someone and when someone showed up it was the lady who told me to wait a minute, and she was the Manager!!! I had a coupon for a free item with any purchase and when the computer didn't want to accept the coupon, instead of just shrugging her shoulders and saying "oh well" she worked around it and still allowed me to use the coupon. I wish I could give this place a 0 stars...this was my experience. Set up an appointment for a wash and dry/style as I was feeling lazy about doing this myself. Went into the store/salon and no one was in the salon area. I asked a nearby employee if anyone was working back there as I had appointment. Yes, a young woman came over and said she was my stylist as well as a manager. Oh good, someone with experience is always a good thing but really how difficult is a wash and dry? What could possibly go wrong? The washing part was fine, no scalp massage but I really didn't expect this here. She, the stylist, explained that she was also a waitress part time and I thought that was quite ambitious, she wants to earn money, bravo! She started to dry my hair and seemed tentative about using a brush. I have thick hair and she needed to pull the brush through the hair in order for it to dry. After a few minutes, too few, she decided that she was finished as her next customer was waiting. No flat iron or finishing. Just some light spray. It didn't look finished. I walked up to the register to pay and slid my hand up through my scalp where I felt a handful of soaking wet hair! The underside was completely wet! Not just damp. This meant I was heading home to dry my own hair and them restyle it. I paid the $30. And when asked if I wanted to leave a tip on the credit card, politely said, "no". I thought I would share why if I was asked about the lack of tip, but no, I was I was not asked about it. Went home, dried and flat ironed my hair and it looked great! read more

Good selction of products but the staff that work here are TERRIBLE!!! I've been in several times and the service is consistently BAD. They get two stars because they offer a great selection of high end products which I like at moderate prices. They do not regularly say hello when you walk in and if they do it's with a snotty, apathetic tone and don't even look up to see if you respond. No one asks if they can help you find anything so good luck, you're on your own. I have seen three different employees applying their own makeup at the the stands designed for the customer! Talk about self-centered, egocentric, superficial employees. Check out is usually the worst. The people up front barely take two seconds away from whatever converstaion/gossip they are discussing and literally seem put-out to be helping you. Unless they want to talk about themselves in regards to whatever you purchased and how "one time, they used it, and they liked it cause it made them so beautiful..." I suppose I'm glad these people are selling grooming products and not managing my money or providing my healthcare, or really doing anything that requires them to think beyond themselves. However, I went this past week and Marcus helped out my friend and I on our lunch break and he was fantastic. He was helpful, humorous and got us what we needed quickly, even helping me remember my coupons and applying my points. This review is about my experience with haircolor services in Ulta's salon. I went in for a consultation because I wanted an unusual hair color and thought it was advisable to discuss my options and pricing. I spoke with a stylist in person for over half an hour. Among the things we discussed was the fact that my hair is very long and thick and would require more than one tube of color. I had worn my hair braided to the salon, so I asked the stylist if she needed me to unbraid it so she could get a better sense of its length and condition. She said that was not necessary -- she could see it well enough. We settled on exactly what would be done, and I asked for a quote on those services. I was quoted around $185, which included a haircut and style. Since I didn't need a cut, I declined that service, which brought my total below $150. I made an appointment for the next day. The stylist called while I was in the shower the next morning. When I returned the call, the manager told me that the stylist was busy with another client, but that she had called me because she had failed to take into account the length of my hair when calculating a price for my haircolor service. I wanted to know what the new price was, but the manager wouldn't tell me. He said I would need to speak with the stylist directly, and that I should simply come in to my appointment, since the stylist would be too busy to speak with me before then. Good job, Mr. Manager. It's always a great idea to tell clients that you are too busy to talk with them about a mistake the salon made. Thumbs up on making your clients go to extra trouble in order to get accurate information from you. Although I didn't really want to drive out there just to get a new quote, I gritted my teeth and drove to the salon. Once I got there, the stylist acted like nothing was amiss, then gave me a new quote that was $50 (33%) higher than the original quote, bringing my new total to $200. She explained that she had simply not taken the length and thickness of my hair into account. When I pointed out that we had specifically discussed these things, she said "Yeah, I know." She also said, "I should have looked at your hair yesterday." Ya think? If a customer takes the time to come in for an in-person consultation on hair color, generally it's a good idea to take a look at her hair. I declined service at Ulta because I don't like to reward either incompetence or fraud. Although $200 may not have been unreasonable for the particular haircolor service I requested, the pricing was hardly transparent, and I no longer trusted the stylist to get anything right if she couldn't give me a reliable in-person quote. It's actually possible that I owe the stylist a thank you. I had noticed, when sitting down in the chair she offered, that there were still a few hairs in it from the previous client. I decided not to be a princess about that, but then realized that the stylist's entire workstation was plastered in the previous client's hair clippings. Floor, work surface, drawer fronts -- everything. You know what I really do not enjoy? Being covered in a complete stranger's discarded hair. Or a loved one's hair. Pretty much any hair clippings at all are going to be undesirable attire for me. Perhaps I actually dodged a bullet. read more

I've recently felt the need to invest in a different foundation, primer, etc. I went into Ulta and began reading about the different lines finding the best fit for my needs. A sales person approached me and led me to a line I had never heard of. She explained why the products were perfect for my skin needs and did not suggest other product lines to test as well. She tested each product just a little bit on my cheek (and with her fingers, without using hand sanitizer first!) I ignorantly accepted the foundation, primer, and setting podwer she suggested and asked her if I should mention her name while checking out. She said it wasn't necessary.... From my limited experience, I think the sales people are hired as particular brand reps and receive commission or kickbacks if they sell their particular product lines. Later that day as I was getting ready to go to dinner, I applied the makeup and it all went on horribly. The "pea size" she said I needed ended up being way more in order to accomplish a full application... and it wore terribly. I looked orange, cake-y, and greasy after just a couple hours. Needless to say, I took all the products back the next day and headed to Sephora, where the employee offered me a full consultation, and sent me home with samples to try instead of just 'buying and hoping'. I was so turned off by the brand rep idea and felt duped. I will not be going back. read more

I have always like Ulta stores. In Reno, NV the staff was usually friendly and helpful. At this store on Montgomery Rd in Cinci, the staff is aloof, mocking and helpful only after your search out a staff member and make your request. Then, when they point in the general direction where your product is located, if you tell them you already looked over there and couldn't find it, they will grudgingly walk you over to the location (at a gallop). Not my idea of customer service. I've been to the Ulta on Edmonton once and the staff was much nicer and more professional; same with the Ulta on Colerain. I try and avoid this Montgomery Rd. Ulta like the plague, but sometimes in that part of town. read more

I told myself I would never come back here after the first time they were rude and unhelpful but somehow ended back up at the same ulta thinking I could kill 2 birds with one stone.... Nope.
