The store was clean, organized, and easy to navigate, which I always appreciate, especially with how many products they carry. I was able to find what I needed without feeling overwhelmed, and everything seemed well-stocked. The staff was friendly and approachable. I didn't feel pressured while browsing, but when I did have a question, someone was quick to help and point me in the right direction. Customer service here could be a lot better. I went to the Ulta in Downers Grove and not only is their service better but their stock and availability of products is better. For example I walked in the store and one of the workers saw me and instead of welcoming me in the store she just walked to the back. They didn't ask me if I needed help or anything. It's just never an overly joyous experience here, they can really work on how they treat ALL their customers. I really don't enjoy going to this location at all. Other than the customer service it's like any other Ulta around the US, other than the fact that they are often out of products. However as I stated earlier the location in Downers Grove is stocked with products and they are actually friendly and approachable. Overall I would give them 2 1/2 stars read more

This Ulta location is my favorite by far! Great selection of products with a nice setup, and employees willing to offer suggestions. Some locations have a Salon that is booked months out and/or don't even answer the phone, never had a problem at Hodgkins getting in quickly. Had my makeup done my Sam she's great super nice and a pretty good make up artist! She keeps a conversation and is very kind. My make up lasted all night even woke up with it mostly still on. Blended out my eyeshadow great. Eyeliner and brows could be better but I under they are pretty hard to do so I fixed them to my liking at home. Also I didn't like that booked the $45 buck appointment and I ended up getting charged for the $70 but I guess it's my fault my maybe I should've asked the difference but on the website it's vague on the details. read more

I have shopped here before because it's close to the other stores I shop weekly. Anyway, last visit here was at the salon. I brought my mom in for a hair gloss and I had planned to book a facial and eyelash extensions the same day. Then things didn't work out how I hoped due to a snobby stylist and esthetician. Thankfully, to Coco, our stylist, our first experience at the salon was pleasant. Unlike , the skinny and snobby stylists with blue color extensions !! Ugh!! Maybe because I am a beautiful and curvy Latina , she clearly made me feel unwelcome by kicking me off her (unoccupied)chair. After her client left she placed boxes on top, so I would not sit again. I remained calm and classy and carried on with a smile. Lol. The snobs clearly need to be retrained about having good manners, also not to be racist , and to be more welcoming to the business! I can't believe all the bad reviews about the staff being unfriendly! I shop here regularly and I've always found the employees to be very nice and helpful. I will agree that occasionally the floor isn't very well stocked, however staff is willing to check the back for you, and 9/10 times they'll come back with what you need. If you're not already a rewards member, make sure you sign up to receive emails/flyers! A trip here can get expensive, fast, so coming in knowing their promotions ahead of time will save you some money. I mostly use NYX makeup and it often goes on sale buy one get one 50% off, so I always wait for that deal to stock up. For my hair I use Redken and every so often they have the jumbo size bottles on sale (I think the last time it was $15.99 for the jumbo size, which is normally the prize of the small size). They also send out 20% off coupons fairly often which I reserve for Dermablend tattoo coverup, or if I just need to stock up in between the other promotions. Being in tune with their sales is key to making your trip less pricey. I originally started coming here for their salon services, and while as of late I've been cutting my own hair, they're the only people I trust. Whether you need a cut or color, any of their salon professionals can make you look great. The only down side is that the salon isn't separate from people shopping really, only the sinks for when they wash your hair, which isn't that big of a deal. read more

This store is convenient to me and the staff has always been helpful when needed. That said, the last two times I have been there I have witness coordinated robberies. In day light a group of people come in, steal all the perfume and cologne and leave. There is no security, there are no lock ups for the perfumes, there are no impediment for the criminals to rob this place. With a predominantly women workforce and guests, where is Ulta corporate to protect these women? One employee tells me these type of thefts happen all the time now. This is a huge company making a ton of money...when will they step up and protect the women in this store? read more

Nothing like walking into a store knowing what you need, and then walking out having spent the entire time shopping, and leaving most of your purchases out of frustration. This has been my experience with Ulta several times. Something I cherish is the ability to connect with people; and when the store has a sign up saying that there's a promotion going on - and it's no longer available - the correct way to handle it with customers is not to argue with them, but to say "sorry, we should have taken all of those down, our mistake." At this Ulta today, they had a couple promotions up which were misleading. The promo signs were sitting in front of mini products, which were being offered as part of the promo with a purchase; then when you go to the register, they tell you the products that were under the sign aren't the products that are part of the promotion; that they were no longer available; it's "while supplies last" and "no they don't think it's misleading at all" to have mini size products under the promo sign" which state the free gift of three minis is worth $30 (three mini products are $10 each - the super mini product they then tried to give me was not the same product at all). To be clear - it's not about the free products at all - it's about the waste of my time. I spent a long time looking around for the right colors of the minis throughout the store and then brought all of my purchases up only to be blankly looked at by three different sales people (managers included) without ONE of them able to think outside of the box and see that, at a minimum, leaving advertisements up for two promotions for which they no longer had products was certainly poor business, and the placement of mini shape tape and other mini items below the sign for "purchase a shape tape or glow wand and receive three mini products - a $30 value - free" was extremely misleading. The other side of the display was full sized shape tapes and glow wands. Logic would indicate you purchase one of those and pick your three minis under the promo sign. All it would have taken from any of the associates was a simple "yes, I can see how you might think that." But no. They blankly kept repeating the same thing. Like robots, without the ability to reason. It was actually a bit shocking that none of them could see that it was even a little misleading. I finally said "don't you think having the mini shape tapes right here might cause people to then try and purchase that and look for the free gift?" "No, it's a mini. I would think I'd have to buy a full sized one to get the gift." "But that's on the other side - so why is this one under the promo sign if it's not part of the promo? You have to see how that might be a little misleading." "No, it's just a mini for purchase. And there was a sign on the other side that said you had to buy a full size one for the promo." Oh. There WAS a sign. They put the sign back up for my benefit and pointed to it as if I should have given them a cookie. Right. Still no acknowledgement from any of them that it was confusing, misleading, or that, I don't know - "hey we fucked up - see we ran out of free gifts so we should have taken the sign down as soon as we did. Our bad!" Nope. Not even that. I get it, I've had dealings with another Ulta where their corporate policy has them allowing customers to be towed from their parking lot without even so much as a warning as you enter the store...but it would go a long way to teach some basic customer care and service. Please. In the meantime - this is precisely why brick and mortar stores will continue to lose to online shopping. Tarte.com will receive my full order now. And while many of the associates did seem to share the common trait of beautiful lashes, perhaps they should worry less about their extensions and more about product knowledge as it was rather limited. Since Tarte is such a big seller (and the subject of the above promos which are no longer running) the least they can do is figure out what the purpose of the glow wand product is and come up with a better statement about a moisturizer than "some people think it's not hydrating enough and others think it's too hydrating." As an aside - years ago there was a fabulous associate named Christian. I can only presume he wised up and moved on. Or perhaps Ulta did the right thing and promoted him to district manager? Could it be? As to the current state of employees at this location, sorry Ulta, clearly you didn't listen and hire Marcie from River Forest to train everyone. Big mistake. Huge. read more

This store is always clean, well lit, and easy to maneuver in. I have never had a problem shopping here, the staff is always quick to ask if I need help(though usually I never take them up on it) but also gives you space to shop without pressure. I love that ulta is not as flashy and intimidating as some other cosmetics stores, because I'm just a basic chick looking for basic makeup. I went in today looking to overhaul my makeup bag. Luckily, Maria was fixing up the aisle I was looking on. I was just casually browsing, and she offered me some product knowledge on new It cosmetics foundation, and when I went to swatch it on my hand, she stopped me and asked if she could show me with a brush instead, so I would see what it would look like actually putting it on myself. I like that she did that, and then moment later offered to show me on my own face, and just try out some fun makeup. She made me look like a million bucks. I came in bare face, which means redness, dark circles, breakouts and the look of someone who doesn't get much sleep. She made me look and feel great, with easy conversation and tips on how to do my own makeup every day to look finished but not flashy. When it came time for me to choose what I wanted, she walked me down the aisle, and showed me each thing she used without being pushy. I took home quite a few products, and she wasn't pushing me to buy everything, only what I needed (told her I had 100 eyeshadow palletes, she told me to remember the name of the one she used when I ran out, and when I said I wasn't sure lipstick would be for me, she said when I'm ready to try it she would be happy to help me find the perfect shade). If you're looking to get really good reviews on makeup by someone who is kind, funny, and not pushy when it comes time to check out, go on a Saturday or Sunday and find Maria. This location has the most unhelpful employees. I asked if something was in the stockroom and the employee told me no even tho it said it was in stock online. I left and placed an in store pickup and picked it up less than an hour later. The same employee was there and she wouldn't even make eye contact. I guess it's more important for her to stare at herself in the counter mirror that make sales. read more

This is not one of the better Ulta stores. Within the past year, this store continues to go downhill more and more with each visit. I received a free birthday mascara, and every time I went in, they never had it stocked. I ended up missing out on the promotion. I also have made quite a few stops in for a specific Red Carpet manicure product- a product that is a necessary part of the gel nail polish process- and they never have it stocked. The girls who work there are always nice, but the store can use some more attention. Some aisles seem very picked though, on a quite often basis. I am always pretty disappointed with this location for the same reason every time. They are ALWAYS out of stock on their high-end make-up. It never fails that I find an Urban Decay or Smashbox eye or lip pallet that I like on display, and when I ask if they have any more I always get the same answer: NO, and we don't know when or if we will be getting more. These products are always left out and never reordered. I've come in two weeks later to purchase the same product and it's still not there and I get the same answer. It's just very disappointing and I have to say that this problem never happens at Sephora. I find myself driving the extra miles to a Sephora so that I can get what I came for on the first visit. read more

I LOVE ULTA! This location usually has long lines & the testers look like a hot mess but I still adore the chain. The employees are all very kind and helpful. I've never walked out of an Ulta with a frown on my face. This location has a particularly enjoyable staff whereas the one in Orland is uptight and stuffy. Parking is much more convenient in Orland... Still, I'd rather wait in line & enjoy the staff than be treated like just another open wallet. Good job, Ulta! read more

Went for my second facial at Ulta - at first I didn't realize they offered this type of salon service but I'm so happy they do!! Fedda, my esthetician is awesome - and when I left the salon, my skin felt like satin and I had a wonderful glow all day long! I went shopping afterwards (without makeup on mind you) and people were commenting on how great I looked. They had a promotion going on so the services were discounted from the regular price...I will be sure to watch for this special again - you can't beat the quality of the facial and the service for this price. read more

I drove here for a product in which I double checked online to make sure they had in stock before hand. The product was not on the shelf, so I asked an employee for help. She proceeded to tell me if it's not out they don't have it, I explained I check on the Ulta app & it says "in stock" for this specific location. She check on the computers they had 6 in stock... disappeared for 2mins max to go find them for me. She came back & said "I couldn't find them". Good selection of products in many price ranges from Wet 'n Wild to Stila, and I've always been able to find what I need. I have never had a problem with staff members. I love their Ulta brand cosmetics. The eyeshadows especially are divine, and such a good deal (look out for combos/sales for even better deals!) Store has a LOT in it, so sometimes finding what you need is a little tricky, and if the register is busy, it is a little difficult to get someone to help direct you. I have never tried any salon services here-- a little hesitant to with the other reviews and the fact that the salon is right up by the window, leaving you with less privacy while you get beautified. read more

I had forgotten my $5 coupon at home noticed as soon as I was about to pay. The only reason I gave Ulta a 3/5 stars is because my best friend works there and she makes my experience there awesome! Otherwise, it deserves a measley two of five. However, whenever she doesn't work there, the other employees are very catty and rude. I can't stand going in there all the time because they're rude to me. There is one girl in particular that I dislike. I had some sort of fragrance coupon, but what ended up happening is that this girl didn't even tell me that the coupon didn't apply to fragrances over $30, after she rung up my purchases (I admit, I should've read the fine print, but this could've been handled better). Their selection is mediocre. This particular Ulta doesn't has no Lancome products, which makes me sad because I'd love to try out their products. Their selection of drugstore products is fair, they usually have the drugstore products I'm looking for when I go in. I also notice that they don't re-stock shelves as vigorously as they should. Many times I've walked in and out because they didn't have a particular makeup shade that I wanted. This has been true with OPI Shatter nail polish, in particular; they said they were sold out, and had been "sold out" for several weeks before getting a new shipment and consequently selling out of that shipment too. This Ulta has a salon on premises. I've had my hair cut there before, and usually they will give me a spectacular haircut the first time, then an okay haircut the next time, and continue to get worse and worse. I've also had my brows waxed there and have gotten pretty nice results. Overall, this Ulta is just an average store. If you need to only get a drugstore product, just go to the drugstore. However, if you need a high-end product, make the trek to Sephora. read more

After walking around the store did 20+ min I finally could find someone actually working on the floor. Except when I asked him for the product I was looking for he said "we don't sell that here". I mentioned it was a product being promoted in every single ad as being sold EXCLUSIVELY at Ulta. He easily finds another Ulta employee (who is in plain clothes so I didn't even realize she worked three). She says "never heard of it." Do these people ever look at their own ads? If I didn't have the stupid email coupon I would just order it direct but I didn't want to pay shipping. Plus - I'm standing IN THE STORE. This lady asks a third person who is working the register. Finally she says "yep - it is a grab and go right up here." I wish everything I loved was sold at target or Sephora but no such luck so I am completely abandoned by both the non helpers to scour the grab and go bins. I find what I'm looking for just to turn and see that the line that didn't exist when I arrived is now easily 10 people deep. Ugh. The girl ringing me up politely asks if I want to get an Ulta Credit Card. I want to be annoyed but it's not her problem every staff member on the floor is useless. I get my stuff and get out. Rumor has t Megababe will now be available at J Crew, QVC and online. So hopefully I won't ever have to walk into this disaster store again. read more

REVIEW ON ULTA SALON SERVICES: Finally found a hairstylist that knows how I want my hair. I don't color my hair, so I only go for a cut & style. I've been going to her for about a year now, and I always leave very pleased. She's super easy and fun to talk to. I have gotten facials with the microdermabrasion package, my skin felt so much healthier than ever. The esthetician was very attentive. Every time she would apply a creams/lotion, she would ask how I was doing and ensured that I was comfortable. OPI gelcolor nail service ... hmm, not a fan. I rather do my own nails. Apart from the points you accumulate, wish there were coupons and/or promotions for current guests and not just new guests. REVIEW ON ULTA STORE: I like coming to this location because (1) is close to where I work and (2) they tend to have the products I want in-stock. I've never had any of their salon services, but I hear they are great. Urban Decay, Bare Essentials, SmashBox, Tarte, Stilla, Benefit - are just some of my favorites! You always get coupons in the mail, and you build up points by the amount of money you spend, which turns into money to use in the future. If you don't want carts from nearby stores in your store - you may want to post that somewhere. Many moms don't have time to shop in one store, haul back to their car to unload from the first stop, return the cart, probably have to carry at least one child, then stop at another store while their little ones are with them. When you don't make it convenient, we just won't shop there. OR if there is a real concern about carts in your store - then a possible way to handle this situation next time would be to say to the customer "just so you know for next time - those types of carts aren't allowed in our store". Or can you leave your cart right there and we will help you with your purchase.... Because it was not handled appropriately today I will not be returning to your store. I actually went home and found the products I needed on drugstore.com - and for cheaper - so I guess in the end I win - and you lost a sale today and a loyal customer. read more
