I shop at different Ulta stores often over the years as it's my "happy place". I have never ever ever had a negative experience at any location UNTIL I started shopping at this one on PCH. Just, yikes. The store is ran by a manager by the name of "Kira". (She's so problematic, she even spelled it for me.) Clearly she sets the tone of the store when it comes to how incompetant they are. It's a nice shopping center so you'd think they'd have someone with more class and common sense in charge. I came in, purchased 3 items: a foaming cleanser, a gel medicated cleanser, and a moisturizer. The gel medicated cleanser was scanned twice. Without noticing the double scan, I left the store. About a week later, I brought in the unopened items but also a 4th item: a clay mask I had purchased from Amazon which is not available at any Ulta store. The cashier, Lily, did my return. Not only was the double scanned gel cleanser not noticed, but the clay mask which I know for a fact would not scan or be eligible if it was not in the original receipt was accepted as a return! In her defense, she may have been attempting to cover for the previous error but thats not how we do things. I had bought this to make a kit for an esthetician program I changed my mind about so I had a lot of amazon items I was dealing with and was relying on the competincy of the cashier to catch any mistakes and like I said, that mask would not have scanned and should have immidiately been returned to me ESPECIALLY since it's not even sold by them. As frustrated as I was, I know mistakes happen and it's the holiday season but then I'm told they LOST the amazon clay mask they took from me. When I spoke with Kira, she spent more time going over my changed hair tone and my dog then the actual details and facts of the issue at hand. After crying for four days, I wrote to Ulta Beauty Headquarters. Thirty days later, they have not responded. Apparently, my diamond status means nothing. I'd also like to add that every single day I still curse the WITCH that butchered me. Here is the letter in part.... Dear Ulta Beauty, The good news is I did not wake up crying today. I did yesterday. And I went to bed crying both Saturday, and Friday. The problem started February 5, 2021 when, after months of not having had a haircut, I had an appointment for 10 AM on 5 February. I've never used Ulta before for haircuts. My longtime hairdresser started selling real estate due to Covid. I paid $55 + $10 tip for a 27-minute hack job. And to be clear, my hair has NEVER been this short in the back EVER. There is also next to zero color left and because the witch cut is so crazy short, I can't get any color into it. That means for MONTHS I'm going to have to deal with this. It is EXTREMELY important to me how I present myself in public. I care deeply how I present myself and look particularly in my professional environment. Now I look butch. Male. Like I can't afford a freaking haircut. I look gross and it's breaking my heart. Looking butch is not my idea of femineity. I'm sure you agree. This haircut is anything but feminine. It's going to take MONTHS for this to grow out, on top of which I'm going to have to deal with the gray, and the lack of blond!!!!! Months and months it's going to be awful. I arrived at my appointment 30 minutes early I was so excited! I walked around outside and waited for the store to open at 10 AM. I was greeted and shared with her how excited I was to be getting a haircut finally. My gosh, I'd been gushing about it for a week with friends and family I was so excited for this appointment. I had been locked down for the past year and had just received my first vaccine dose. This was a very big fat deal for me. A platinum blond woman checked me in and took me around the other side and told me mumbled so and so would be cutting my hair. Masks and blow dryers probably did not help. I sat in the chair. The witch never said hello. Or asked my name. Or even told me her name. 27 minutes later I was back in my car. 27 minutes. Oh, and $65.00 later. I shared with the witch I had been growing my hair almost a year, and that I was very excited for this appointment. That I usually kept it short and spikey and I absolutely did not want that. I wanted something more like a long pixie cut. My hair is so freaking short and has at least 5,000 different lengths, there is zero I can do. You should see it now, 30 days later. She never even touched my hair and there was no consult. I checked a couple days later the prices - I was supposed to get a consult. The witch just took a scissor and immediately just chopped off some 4 inches in the back then had me in the shampoo chair and then took a comb to my scalp in one hand with the scissor in the other and before I could believe it, it was over! It was over before I could literally take a breath. At one point I did reach my hand up to feel how long it was, my glasses were off so while I could see, I could not see definition so to speak. I felt stunned. I felt stunned when the witch took the cape off me and ushered me to the register where the witch never asked if I wanted another appointment, an appointment for color, I did try to bring up color, much less said thank you. The witch handed me a piece of paper. By the time I hit the register, I was beyond stunned and imagine I looked it as the register clerk never even asked me how I was or how my haircut was. I mean, it is pretty obvious my haircut is a hack job. Suffice it to say, I will never use your services again. I am currently processing if I'll ever shop at your store again. You can bet your ass I'll let every single person I face know that I got this whack job at Ulta Beauty. I never thought at age 63 I'd be crying over a haircut. Ever. I placed an order for curbside pickup online. Made sure each item in my cart was available at the pickup location and at checkout selected curbside pickup. But the website shipped it to my home address that doesn't allow packaged deliveries. When I called customer service I was told there is nothing they can do. That I would have to wait the 8 days to see if it gets delivered (which it won't) and two more weeks for it to ship back in order for me to get a refund. I ordered over $100 worth of items that I now I have to wait a month to get my money back. Customers should NEVER EVER trust Ulta's online service. I'm so incredibly dissatisfied and disappointed at how this was handled. All customers should be aware of their faulty website and HORRIBLE customer service! read more

Sorry to say I've never been in this Ulta and probably will never go. My experience happened without me even stepping foot in the door. I moved to Long Beach from Arizona not too long ago, and as time progressed I found I was in need of a hair cut. When I lived in AZ I would go to the Ulta close to my house and actually built a relationship with my stylist there, (one that I was sad to leave, as we actually became friends) but I figured I would keep my relationship with Ulta alive and hope to find a stylist here. This is where things went bad. As I said I was/am in need of a hair cut, nothing crazy just trim and clipper cut the sides and back as they are getting shaggy. I booked an appointment on the Ulta app to have a clipper cut, I chose the option for "Any Pro" and was booked with Yvonne. Great, I was set my apt was for 8:30PM, later I know but hey it was available when I was. Here is where things turn south, I received a call from Ulta, thinking it was to confirm my apt, but to find out it's the "Pro" calling me to tell me that she doesn't do "clipper cuts" and that she was the only one there that evening so I wouldn't be able to get service. Now let me say this first and foremost, the "Pros" attitude, tone of voice, or demeanor was not negative in any way. She was nice, pleasant and wasn't rude at all. My issue is what stylist out there can not do a simple clipper cut with a trim, you can go into a Supercuts and have someone who didn't even learn the trade clipper cut your hair. How can a "Pro" at Ulta, a company that I know hires stylists who know their trade, "not do clipper cuts". To me this was someone who saw an appointment with an 8:30pm time and simply didn't want to deal with having to work that late. It came off as though they didn't want to have to deal with all that goes into cutting hair at that time of the evening. The store closes at 9 and they didn't want to have to be doing any extra work before closing up shop. As someone who has worked retail for a very long time, yes it sucks when that customer comes in before closing and makes you work. BUT as someone who knows, that's the job, it happens and you go on. This simply felt like an employee who didn't want to deal with a customer so close to closing and just figured out how to make it go away. I wouldn't even have been half as put off if she had even tried to offer to set up an alternative appointment time with another stylist who "does do clipper cuts" but she didn't even offer to have me come I at another time. Just told me "I don't do clipper cuts, and I'm the only one here sorry." Ulta if your stylist staff doesn't want to cut hair past 8pm or even 7pm that's fine change your hours I can understand that. There are tons of salons that are not open past 7pm, I looked, but if you're going to have salon appointments that go till 8:30pm then the staff should be willing to work it. And all means, your stylists should all know the basics. I'm a very loyal consumer, once I find something I stick to it. Sad to say this put me off so much that I really feel wont find the same relationship here that I did back at my old Ulta. read more

Ulta is ulta, they carry most of the products. You go in and get what you want. Find what you want. But keep in mind that the staff has no control of things getting out of stock, i mean things are popular and they get out of stock, too bad you came too late and missed it. Anyhow, this 5 start review is for their service. All of the staff in this location is so great. Incomparable to any other ulta i've been to. Amanda Liberty is such a great and sweet person. If i could remember everyone's name I would have mention them in here. But Amanda was the one who did my hair today, and she was amazing. And the rest of the staff were very helpful. Patricia, who is a new cashier (today was her second day on job) was also very great and nice. She is very knowledgeable and answered most of my questions. Anyhow, I'd rather go here than the one next to my house. So I have been returning to this place because of their Salon and great service! I dont know why people think the staffs here are rude. I dont reccomend going to any ulta as most of them have the most uncomfortable customer service. This location was not an exception. Everything was fine until i got to the register. I get all my items and i tell the cashier my info from the last time i was pressured into making an account come to find that that account doesn't exist amd now i have to make a completely new one and again im badgered into making another one. I tell the cashier no thank you 3 times before caving. Ulta needs to do somthing about how they train employees or dont give them a required minimum of people they need to sign up because i dont know why the cashiers are always so hostile when it comes to the ulta membership. read more

This review is a bit overdue, but this location is closest to my work so I'm here often. I was practically here for 3 weeks straight during the 21 day sale event. Haha. I'd have to say 7/10 times I come here they've done a great job being attentive. I've done a few returns which would probably be annoying, but they've been really cool about it. Some of the managers are really awesome, some look like they're having a bad day. Once, I was in there around 7ish and walked around for 10 minutes and no one bothered to assist me when I was clearly looking for help because I tried to make eye contact with people who kept walking past me. 2 of them were even discussing phone plans and phone upgrades then made a phone call to their company while on the sales floor. Yes, I was there long enough for all that. There was one associate though that stood out the most (during a different visit) and that is Tooba. I came in there looking for foundation and she upsold me on a few things. She went above and beyond what was expected of her and her customer service was on point! Great personality, not judgmental, good vibes, just awesome! She deserves 5 stars all on her own. read more

I'm not exactly sure why I kept giving this Ulta location a chance. Perhaps it's because it sits in between 2 businesses that I visit pretty frequently. (Best Buy & Chipotle). They are always either out of stock or have discontinued a popular item. I was looking for a particular item for my skin, but it had been discontinued. Okay, that's fine. I get it. So I asked my stalker, errr, I mean the employee following me if she recommended another product. Without an ounce of thought, she pulls a product made by a company that I've never heard of, which happened to be on the shelf right next to her and mixed in with a mish-mash of other products. She then proceeds to tell me that it is the hottest product on the market right now. Seriously?? I find it hard to believe that the "hottest product on the market right now" would 1) be sold at Ulta, and 2) that we were standing right next to it while it's mixed with other random products. Do yourself a favor and drive over to the Seal Beach store. They have much better service. 99/100 read more

Long story short: As I was checking out, I put my phone number in for the rewards program & the cashier said "you might be eligible to receive 20% off your purchase today, would you like to answer this survey to find out?" DON'T FILL OUT THE QUESTIONNAIRE, THEY ARE TRICKING YOU INTO FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION FOR A CREDIT CARD. Humiliating. Violating. Frustrating. And to make matters worse, the Ulta website makes it practically impossible to deactivate the account, which leads me to assume that they train their employees to do this on purpose. Never ONCE did this girl even mention the word "credit card". I feel completely taken advantage of. Cannot even believe that someone would willingly put another persons credit score on the line without a second thought, probably just for some company-wide competition. My husband has been doing his own hair for a while and thinks he does great. I convinced him to get a professional hair cut and beard trim at Ulta. After his service, he clearly saw that his self cutting skills were at best mediocre. Amy is skilled in doing men's hair, it's her specialty apparently. She is happy and kind and gave him clean lines, a neck clean up, and a groomed beard. What a difference, even he admitted the drastic improvement. Easy parking, good price and no wait time either. I'd like to express how upset and humiliated I was when this stores manager falsely accused me of stealing and continued to fallow me after the merchandise was found on the floor next to my foot instead of my purse!!!!! This woman made me feel so anxious I couldn't continue shopping every aisle I went down she was there smiling and then glaring and not until I nervously reached the cash register did she digress to the middle of the store. It felt like the walls were closing in on me and I felt that the other employees were trying to make me feel a certain way..... The incident is as follows: December 26 2018 I walked into this ulta store to have some shop therapy and had a few items in mind I'd like to purchase.... well that didn't end up happening I actually purchased nothing I wanted even the wrong color! This is the BEST ulta store in SoCal. Why? Earlier in April 2017 I saved money to buy a load of makeup. Quite proud of myself until I went into another ulta store to start spending my saved money. This ulta (location will go un named) WAS EMPTY. They did not have ABH products, not even a one highlight palette. So I left, and decided to call another ulta before driving, this location had some but about half the products I was looking for, and said that they answer calls to book appointments not to answer stock room questions. Ouch ok So finally I call this place. Not only were they friendly, and have the products I wanted, they HELD ALL of the products until I was able to get them. When I got there I asked questions about the makeup I was buying, instead of just reaching for my credit card she took me to the side and showed me how to apply certain products!! Ally was amazing, she answered all of my make up questions and was very kind. This will always be my go to store read more

I felt a spontaneous urge to change my hair up with a cut and have had a bad experience going to another Ulta's salon, so I looked up reviews on the best stylist at this location. I noticed people were raving about Kimmie, and she just so happened to have availability later on that day (which I found out was the only appointment booked for the day, which made her pay that much more attention to my cut!) When I got there, I was greeted my Kimmie and was immediately comfortable with her. She sat me down and asked me what I had in mind and ended up giving me a couple of suggestions, including the deep conditioning treatment. I agreed and she walked me over to the sink and made sure I was comfortable by giving me a footrest and an extra towel for my neck. She was so gentle while washing my hair and was explaining the benefits of the different products she was using. She brought me a cold water from the back while I waited with my conditioning treatment in. It made my hair so so soft and healthy-looking. She got to cutting and I could tell she definitely loves what she does by the attention she was giving my hair. My cut looked great and my hair is so incredibly soft now, so I will definitely be coming back to Kimmie any time I need touch ups, a trim, or any product recommendations. read more

The salesperson gave me a ridiculously small amount of product and made me feel like a bitch for asking about the 10 day supply. Every other Ulta I've been to offers you a chance to try out the Clinique skincare products for 10 days before buying it. I've done it several times and have bought several of their products this way- I like to make sure it works before I invest. She referenced that she had been at the store "for a long time" and had never heard of the promotion. It honestly looked like she hadn't put anything in at all, and she made me feel horrible about the encounter. Will not be shopping here again. Update: I was right. If you are lucky enough to get an appointment with her, you should take it and book your next one immediately so you do not miss out!!! Sara has been doing my hair for years now. I first found her when I first moved back to Long Beach and I was at first apprehensive of getting my hair done in an Ulta. However, she is a diamond in the rough. After going to her, I will not trust anyone else with my hair. She is simply a master at what she does. I have really long, thick, and curly hair and Sara is able to handle it with ease. I have had many haircuts in the past that have made it unmanageable. Sara know how to cut in long layers to take the weight off and make it so I can easily style it at home. I completely trust Sara and do not need to ever give any direction. I trust her to do what looks good and appreciate her counsel when I ask something that she thinks either isn't on trend or will not look good given my hair's texture and color. Sara is sweet and a kind person who is a joy to be around. I really look forward to my appointments. I sometimes wish that my hair grew faster so I would have an excuse to see her more often. Today, I was shamed out of stepping foot into this store by a hairstylist. Let's take a look at the facts. I wanted to dye my hair a grayish blue color. My hair is naturally a very dark black. Call me crazy, but once upon a time, I used to bleach my hair to almost platinum in the span of one day whenever I wanted a funky hair color. I had done it successfully each time, and my hair always still felt healthy afterwards. I've been seeing more people going with various shades of gray and wanted to try it out. After researching products online and seeing that a bunch of reviewers said they purchased bleaches and dyes at Ulta, I decided to give it a shot. The first girl who helped me was I think a general sales worker. She was very kind and tried to give me all kinds of advice even though she told me it was not recommended to do it myself as I could damage my hair. She tried to give me other options that would not involve bleaching. Another woman came by who I think was one of the managers, and she had this cool gray-purple thing going on. Likewise, she advised against doing it at home but was trying to point me in the direction of good products presuming if I did get my hair professionally bleached. Another girl who was one of the hairstylists was called in and came by to talk to me because she might have had more experience as a professional. Again, same thing. Don't do it at home, but if your hair was professionally bleached, here are some things you can try. Probably because she and I had the same heritage, she was more in belief that I've done it successfully at home. Very nice girls, all of them. Finally, this tall girl came to join the conversation. She had beautifully fading teal hair that looked like it was chopped off with kitchen shears, and her eye make up looked like she had expertly applied silver acrylic paint and green crayons to her face. She asked why I didn't just want to do it in the salon, and I explained that I've done it before in the past at home by myself successfully. Furthermore, I have a hard time having someone else touch and do stuff to my hair. The one and only reason I cut my own hair. She then told me the products they use are professional and asked if I was a cosmetologist. Ummm I'm a guy representing the origins of the term "pizza face," so you tell me. I told her I wasn't, so she then asked why I wanted to steal their knowledge. She told me they go to cosmetology school and had to pay for it, so she doesn't understand why I'd try to steal what they learned. I said that if that's the tone the conversation was going on, I would just figure it out on my own. She reiterated that she didn't know why I'd expect them to give me advice if i didn't want to have it done in a salon. I told her not to offer advice then and thanked her before walking away. The other stylist who was initially speaking to me apologized. Very nice girl, that one. I spoke to a different manager about the incident who also apologized and tried to ask what I needed help with. By that point, I was just so mortified that I wanted to leave. Remember when I said that I am a guy? So, I'm gay, but I'm really bad at it. I have gone to this Ulta before to buy high quality products in my vain attempt to improve my appearance. It's the best I could do. I already am so uncomfortable in the store because I know men are less commonly found in such stores shopping for products for themselves, yet there I am trying to do something to help myself. Another reason why I prefer to do things like cut and color my hair in the privacy of my own home. To be shamed for wanting to do something myself and accused of stealing hard earned training, well I mean, I'm not uncomfortably coming into the store to feel even worse about myself. My question is... if, unanimously, the products that they sell are highly recommended to avoid, why are they even sold there in the first place? My assumption was that it was for stubborn idiots like myself that prefer to DIY it and accept the responsibility that we might fuck ourselves up. If you work in a beauty supply store or a salon and your intent is to belittle people, you should probably work on making people feel pretty on the inside as well as the outside. I'm actually not a huge Ulta fan, but I am a huge THIS Ulta store fan. I've always received excellent customer service from the employees at this location. The store also seems cleaner and better stocked than the others with better management. I'm just guessing at the management, but everyone does what they are supposed to be doing, I'll put it that way. Never thought I would write a review though, until my last visit. On my last particular occasion, I was meandering around the makeup. Estee Lauder had stopped making my base makeup I had been using...for the last 10 years! Ugh. Had to find a replacement. I'd already been through four when I decided to leave the department store to see what Ulta had to offer. I was approached by a friendly salesperson, "Vanessa". I hate to say it, but I always look at the sales associate's makeup before I think about asking for help, and her's was flawless. She directed me to my new favorite product, "It CC+". She spent a good bit of time on me, matching my color, talking about the benefits of primer, powder, etc., stuff I needed and more importantly, what I didn't need, which made me feel like she wasn't trying to just sell to me. I have been wanting to get some natural looking makeup for the longest and so I finally went in today and was helped right away! Sara(h) was so great, she got me the right color to match with my tone and gave me some tips too! The entire time she was putting makeup on me, we were having a really good talk and once she was done I was amazed by the results. I will definitely be back here again! read more

This review is for the hair salon and Erika who cut and styled my hair. My hair is very thick and wavy/curly so it can be difficult to cut but she did a fantastic job! My hair often feels "weighed down" bc of how thick it is, but after the layers she put in it feels so light and textured. I can let it air dry no problem now without worrying if it will dry weird! She also really took her time with drying and styling it, which takes quite some time with my hair. I will be back for sure! Thank you Erika! read more

I have been an excellent customer @ the LB Marina Pacifica Store inLB - purchasing most of my beauty & hair needs - including Shiseido, Clinique, Bobby Brown, etc.... At my last several visits early this year, customer service was so poor, I have switched to another store & will not return there. At my last visit, several of the sales staff were socializing leisurely while doing makeup for single customers for a half hour or more (did they even purchase anything?). No one else was available to answer simple questions? After 40 minutes of trying to find items myself, I finally left. The one-star rating is for the LB Marina Pacifica Store, not all ULTA stores, although the Cerritos & Lakewood stores rate no higher than 3 stars. read more

Had a quick hair cut and style by Craig. He was amazing. He gave me some great tips on how to use products. I did book my next appointment with him because he's that good. I know that salons around here are competitive however his service and prices were reasonable. I received a wash, cut and blowout for the price I would pay for only a blowout at a high-end salon. And I booked my appointment at 7pm. He had room for me at 8pm. I was out before they closed at 9pm on a Saturday! I am ready for a great night. Thanks Craig! :) read more
