Just visited this location and the service and customer service is absolutely terrible. I was profiled and harassed the whole time that I was shopping. IN REGARDS TO THE SALON - I've been trying to schedule a damn bang trim for weeks when they kept pushing my appointment date and when I finally got in, Charlie f*ed up a simple bang trim and left me looking like Lord Farquad went through a lawn mower when I asked for just a trim and wispy front bang look. I even told her I didn't want to get it cut straight across. What does she do??? Cuts it straight across. When she claimed "That's why I don't like getting front bangs, because I like to see my eyebrows!" I knew I messed up. Gave her the benefit of the doubt and now I'm gonna have to wait for this god awful cut to grow out. It also irked me that, in a totally fake tone, she kept reiterating "Omg it looks so good! Ok I'm almost done ok it looks so good!" to try and save face when she knew there was no going back. I'm not a confrontational person so I just asked for her card with her name and left quietly because I know hair and bangs in particular grow out relatively fast but never again. It was also my fault for not taking the time to show her a picture but I figured she knew what she was doing. Seems like I could've just given my 5 year old nephew some scissors and he might've done a better job. Find a good stylist at a regular salon. I went in for a haircut a few weeks ago with Charlie, I normally won't share negative experiences but she cut my hair very uneven and my bangs have not been the same, I almost immediately went to a salon to get my hair fixed. Although I was able to get my bangs fixed a little they've been a struggle to style everyday which made me write this review. My hair overall was a mess. Unfortunately I will not be returning. Shopping experience at this location was horrible. My mom and I came in here Friday afternoon to browse after DSW and I'm not sure if it was because I had a bag but we were followed around the entire store. We started off in the Lancôme section and when asked if we needed help, I responded no thanks just looking. Cecilia would not leave us alone. We kept moving to different sections, I was talking to my mom about mascara and she interjects trying to show us a product. So we moved again. We went to the other side of the store because it seemed like she kept coming around us and it made us uncomfortable. Then again she comes over acting like she's looking for something and every aisle we went into she just so happened to be looking for something. Then another woman asked us if we needed help or a basket and we jokingly said "no thank you, we shouldn't buy more than we could carry", a few minutes later someone was shoving a basket in our face. So, a little update. I got my makeup done again last week for my cousin's wedding but not by Shayla. The staff told me that Shayla does not work there anymore, which is quite a shame. She was amazing. I was kinda sad that she doesn't work there anymore (Shayla, if you're reading this girlie, I miss you and I hope everything is well with you). So, I ended up getting my makeup done by a woman named Patty. She was awesome. I had a great experience with her just as I did with Shayla. She paid attention to how I wanted my makeup done and she made me look like a queen!! I was so obsessed with it! It was another makeup look done by another great artist that this Ulta store, that I want to keep coming back. Product selection is great. It's the staff/estheticians I've a problem with. At both Modesto locations I've made and they have confirmed appointments. I arrived on time, sat for 20 minutes at the Riverbank location only to be told no one available as esthetician took wrong schedule home. Sisk Rd location told me I didn't leave phone number so the couldn't call to tell me esthetician wasn't in. As I started to tell staff that they did have number as they had called to confirm, she just walked away. Two strikes rule for me. read more

I came in here for a elf primer that is literally under 10 dollars because target was sold out I was in a rush and there was a long line. I never go to ULTA because the atmosphere here is just horrible. Anyway I waited at least 10 minutes in line get rung up and the girl asks me if I want to sign up for the rewards. I say no thank you and she proceeds to insist and I keep declining. Then another girl comes rudely and starts telling me I won't be able to return my items because I won't sign up. I say no thank you again. Why would I want to return a 9 dollar primer. Anyway I felt like I was being harassed to signing up when I clearly said no. Holy beauty supply store! Ulta Beauty has officially opened in Modesto. For those of you who have never had the pleasure of entering an Ulta store, allow me to illuminate. Ulta reminds me of a cross between Sephora and Target. From drugstore cosmetic/skincare brands to department store staples and dermatologist lines, Ulta has a good selection of products to meet your beauty needs. Not only does Ulta offer cosmetics, skin care and hair products, but they also have a salon as well. I didn't check out the services they offer since I already have a fabulous hair stylist of my own. The sales associates were friendly and welcoming. I received helpful recs regarding which product would best meet my needs, which I greatly appreciated. I am updating this review from 1 to 3 stars because of Victoria & Jose. Let me make it VERY CLEAR that it would have been updated to a FIVE STAR review if it wasn't for the "lead cashier" Megan. MEGAN TREATED ME LIKE DIRT. I came in today to get my eyebrows done by Victoria; who is always awesome by the way. To only get treated like total dirt while being rung up by Megan. I purchased an eyebrow wax and 3 full size benefit mascaras. That apparently still wasn't good enough for Megan. What happened: So it was my birthday on Sunday & I asked Megan for my birthday gift that they always give rewards members every year. She spoke to me rudely & explained if I didn't have the email there's "Nothing I can do about it, call customer service." Even though my birthday was in the rewards system. She saw it and even verified with me. Seriously? You can't override it or have your manager override it and do the RIGHT THING? ITS PRINCIPAL. This was in front of Victoria, Victoria could feel how rude Megan was I think. Because Victoria looked at me and said, "Don't worry, I'll write the number down for you." So as I walked around the store (after already making my purchase with mean Megan) & called customer service. They promptly sent me my birthday email and this time Jose checked me out. My granddaughter went to the salon at Ulta on Sisk Rd in Modesto. She told the lady exactly what she wanted just a straight trim, the hair dresser couldn't do a straight trim and cut her hair shorter in the back then the front! Apparently the hair dresser only knows one way to cut hair!! She didn't have time to stick around for her to fix it and the manager was not helpful at all. Not the first time they messed up! Apparently you can't go into Ulta carrying a tote bag because you get stocked and followed around the whole store. I went in a few days ago to pick up an order I had placed online and was killing time before I picked up my daughter from school. The lady with the British accent made me feel so uncomfortable. As soon as I approached the Lancôme counter she was on me like flies on shit. She made it so obvious she grabbed all the products that where on display and put them away. There was another lady standing by and she didn't even acknowledge her standing there. I felt uncomfortable and targeted. I ended up going to Macy's and spent over $200 they had 15% of all beauty products so I splurged after all it was my Birthday. If you want to pay $200+ for two people to treat you poorly and ruin the integrity of your hair, then I suggest coming here. I lost a significant amount of length since February when they dip dyed my hair blonde when I requested for highlights. I foolishly thought they would be kind about fixing it, but the so-called hairstylist just sloppily left dark patchy spots; when I explained my concern, she snapped at me about my hair being dark. I'm biracial so my hair has darkened as I've gotten older, but I was hurt by her discriminating comment & embarrassed because I didn't ask her to be platinum blonde. I went to ulta today to pick up some perfume hair products and primer, i did also have two it cosmetics to return. When i got called to the register i told taylor about the return she proceeded to help, she said since my items were past 60 days and more than 20% used they usually do not return and she would do it this one time and she was going to make a note in my acct. ok thats fine make your note, it was a serum i tried it for two weeks and it severely broke me out so of course i returned them. Whether they took them back or not it didnt bother me i just figured i would try. What really bothered me is that she repeated herself about 4-5 times like ok TAYLOR i UNDERSTAND what your are sayin! Tabitha is an AMAZING cosmetologist. She knows exactly how to cut wavy/curly hair types. I mentioned how I don't really like layers in my hair, however since it's curly my hair needs them. She blended in the layers flawlessly! I never felt the urge to schedule regular trims, but she did such an amazing job and I want her to be my regular stylist. Cashier Cynthia has the nastiest attitude. She didn't talk the entire checkout time and expected me to know when to insert my card to pay. She just stared at me and I realized she was done scanning my items so I insert my card and paid and she threw my bag at me. My cousin was also with me and noticed the nasty attitude. Well, I don't know what has happened at Ulta lately. But I've been coming here at this location for 7 years and it doesn't feel the same. There was like 5 securities inside of the store and all the employees staring at you as you come in and shop around. The environment felt like I was walking into a jail. As you shop and look around you have employees asking you if you need anything, it kinda feels like you're being harassed by them every 5min. You don't get to walk freely without having someone looking at you or following you. I honestly don't feel like going back to this location. I don't feel like I can shop around without being checked on every 5 to 10 min. It makes me feel uncomfortable now. I have spend thousands of dollars here and the staff makes me feel like I can't look around freely and take my time to shop and look for new items to try. Most likely I will not come back unless I really need to. But most importantly please treat paying customers with a sense of comfort to shop around. read more

Terrible service, slow and not knowledgeable. Long lines with not enough checkers and they are poorly trained. There is always 1 checker with long lines while other employees stand and talk about customers. There is no one to help you. If asked them to help you they act like it's burden. They just don't want to you to be there. They need to understand that we go there that's why they are there. And every time you go there they are always out of stuff there. This is solely a review for the salon; the associates on the floor were helpful. I had my hair cut on 07/23 at the Ulta off Sisk Rd in Modesto CA. Loved the syalist, but once my hair dried (opted not to have a blow out because my hair dries naturally straight and to have it blow dried would have be an additional $12), I realized not much was done at all to my hair and some areas, it was evident they were not trimmed. I have super long hair and didn't want to lose a lot, granted, but some areas were clearly not cut. I'd love to say I'm happy with my cut and clean up, but I'm not. I now have an appointment with another salon, costing me MORE MONEY, to fix this. What had been discussed prior to my cut is that she would cut it straight across, and then throw in layers. It seems she held up some areas, cut at angles, and that was it. She never stood in front of me - my front hair was never touched and so now it's about 2" longer and looks quite awkward. I thought the time elapsed for my cut felt short, and that's because it was. I super liked her as a person, she was personable and friendly, but it's upsetting to spend $25 ($35 with the $10 tip I gave) for me to only have to turn around and get it fixed and thus pay even more money. Very disappointed with this location. I was there on Thursday, 9/8. There we're several girls on the floor, but will not help you unless you are purchasing the brand they represent.. Everything I needed had no stock on the stands.. FORTUNATELY, the benefit girl was able to find my shade. That was about the only assistance I received. I then went to get my bare minerals foundation and surprise surprise, my color was not stocked. So I'm standing there with the tester in my hand, looking for an associate to check back stock. The bare minerals girl was standing RIGHT by me as I helped myself in the back stock drawer, and found my color right away. Never made any sort of contact or even stopped me from going in their back stock... Which is a big no-no. Then the line was a mess. Long and only 1 girl ringing. I had been looking for a stylist to color my hair and had the amazing pleasure of booking an appointment with Ana. She is absolutely a doll. Very professional, listens to her client and keeps you involved in the process the entire way. This is key especially when doing color and highlights. Ana did an amazing job and I would highly recommend her. Down side is Ulta up charges for everything so no haircut is included with color which is very rare. Everything is an add on so you can easily exceed 200.00 in one appointment. Ulta should consider bundling services this would avoid ticket shock at the end and would allow clients too better prepare. I have to imagine this way of pricing may impact the stylist tips because the price they quote is really not the price you pay, so if your not prepared you may not have enough money at the end of the visit. Just a suggestion for a better customer experience. Despite this I am happy with my end result and Ana is incredible- ask for her and when making an appointment and planning on cost just plan for add on charges so you can tip your stylist. They work hard and do amazing work and definitely deserve it. Also, you have to ask to leave the tip you don't get the option when checking out unless you ask. Thank you Ana!! read more

Just to preface this visit, for the record I was not here for makeup! I was on the hunt for some Jack Black products such as the all over body wash, lip balm, cologne and face scrub. All I found though on this trip was the face scrub, boooooo!!! I flagged down an associate and asked about the items I couldn't find and I got a "we're getting our next shipment soon". I shouldn't be too mad since he was trying to ease my mind. Oh but they don't carry the cologne so I am going to have to get it at Bloomingdales when I go to SF soon. Will I be back? Likely.
