The greatest experience I had was before Christmas when everyone did their last minute shopping and one of the floor associates helped me find everything I needed, even though she didn't have to, she showed me everything I needed and always asked if there was more to look for. read more

Great place to purchase make-up, hair supplies. Good service & help with choosing make-up. They do have hair stylists & brow waxing. If you sign up you earn points with every purchase. Cosmetics are a "fair trade" item so they aren't any more expensive than other stores. read more

I don't know why, but this location could use some refreshers on customer service. I normally go in around 10AM, when they open, normally people haven't lost all their patience by that time.. But every time I've gone in, they show some sort of attitude towards the customers. I understand we all have bad days, but this is just a bit much. It's important that you show the people who are in the store, that you appreciate their business and presence. If you do not acknowledge that, not just your sales go down, but moral as well. I'm hoping in the future, to be greeted with smiles and hopeful hearts. Even the manager could benefit from a renewed sense of spirit. Come on Oceanside! I agree with some of the reviews about the hair salon. I had my hair done there a year ago. I too have long hair and was getting the glaze color. It was supposed to be a new client rate and from what I remember I was over charged what I was quoted by 20 dollars. I left with a nicked earlobe. Yup I was cut. And color all over the back of my shirt and they never told me. I discovered the cut and dye all over my shirt when I got home. I went several places and how embarrassing to be walking around like that. I actually remember the girl saying something after what I thought was only the comb. When I went to pay it had two hairdresser names on the form and was confused because I didn't have two people cutting my hair. Needless to say I don't even think they had the right hairdressers name at all. The lady at the register didn't request or get me the clarification I needed but just cared if I was leaving a tip or not. I wouldn't have tipped if I knew I was cut & had coloring all down my back. I went in today & got some needed items for my daughter n I. Changed my address but the cashier didn't even confirm the address that I just gave. Guess I'll just trust that it was done right. It feels more like get them in get them out at times. I have mixed feelings about this business. Some days I love it here then other days it's totally off. read more

My issue is with the manager Lila in the hair salon. I called to get a price quote for two braids... nothing fancy, not for a wedding, prom, nothing special.i could do it myself but since I'm going camping for three days (where there's no showers) I wanted to make sure it's tight to last longer. Mind you I have straight fine hair so even more easy. She quoted me 40.00 (for two braids). A couple weeks ago a different stylist quoted me 20 (very reasonable)! 40 dollars is just ridiculous. And she said they don't have a set price so essentially she can make up any price depending on her mood. Not cool Ulta..how is this an acceptable business practice? read more

I love this salon!! Kat is my go to hairstylist now! I just moved down here from Orange County and was afraid to find a new hair stylist, but fear no more I've found her!! She does ombré like nobodies business! Lila and Virginia are also amazing. The more you visit the salon the more points you rack up on your rewards card. Because I love coming to Ulta anyways it's a perfect fit for me. All the ladies on the sales floor are so knowledgeable and helpful as well :) I'm now a platinum rewards member and I get special deals for hair and skin care in the salon, as well as beauty products. She explained everything she was doing, and asked about my skincare regime at home. The pricing was amazing, and I left with my skin feeling brand new. This is a great Ulta. They always have things in stock unlike the carlsbad location which seems to run out of Joico and other products so fast. I also always can get help at this Ulta location. This store is a little smaller then the other Ulta but like I said they usually have a lot more in stock. Make sure you get an ulta card where you can rack up points for discounts and free gifts. read more

The girls who work here are not "rude", but they definitely don't go out of their way to be nice and friendly to you. Luckily I know what I want when I go in there. Otherwise, I'd feel much more uncomfortable. I'd just save yourself the trip and go to Macy's across the street. read more

This review is for the salon. I went in saturday early afternoon without an appointment. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and was able to fit me in for a haircut within 10 minutes! Lorelei was my stylist. I didnt have any pictures, I just described what I wanted and she gave ne exactly what I had in mind! My hair feels and looks so much healthier and has so much more movement! I absolutely love it! I had been looking for a new hairstylist for months and I think I finally found her! Will definitely be back. read more

Great customer service that caused me to write my first review! Yesterday I went into Ulta looking for foundation and possibly concealer. I was super self-conscious because I stopped wearing makeup a while ago, and felt like I had no idea what I was doing there. I was helped by Kayla, and she was the absolute BEST. Truthfully, I love ulta better than sephora but this store is always either out of stock, have no clue about products they carry nor the sales that's going on or don't have the product at all. Either this place expand their location due to having a small space or just close down. San Marcos and Carlsbad isn't that far. I would rather order online at ulta.com but thinking maybe going to the store will save me a trip and shipping cost, i end up spending more with the drive here because they don't have the product. I'm so glad i found this place! I used to buy my makeup at Macy's and spend way to much and get little to no help with tons of sales pressure, and end up with not what I wanted! Ulta you can try all the expensive products by yourself or with help from a consultant. They also have free demo's you can sign up for with a rep of the products and get a consultation and try the products. My friend and i signed up for smash box at the Oceanside Ulta with Kaylie. It was great our rep Kaylie was so sweet and knowledgeable! Dermalogica is a great face cleanser and skin care system too! You get points and money off with how much u buy. read more

I love Ulta. I've been a customer for many years and used to frequent the San Marcos location. I moved to Oceanside about a year ago, so naturally, I started taking my Ulta business to the store closest to home. I have to say that even though it's a drive, I will be spending my $$ at the San Marcos location from now on. I've given this location a year 1/2 to step up, but after Saturday's experience, I'm done. Rude and just plain lacking in customer service is the best way to describe this location. Snotty little B's at the register. Half the time, they have no inventory & no one seems to know what they are talking about, unless you happen to be there on a day when the manufacturers rep are there, then you can get answers to your questions and suggestions, that actually make sense. Luv that! Some times, the store looks kind of dumpy. I noticed that when I first starting using this location, then sometimes it looks cleaner and a little better, then it looks dumpy again. NO consistency, never know what you're going to get, walking through the door. It seems that they are put off, when they actually have to try to find you a product that will fit your needs. If you don't already know what you are looking for, then forget it. Go to Sephora! To sum it up, as another reviewer said, I have mixed feelings about doing business with this business. read more

FOR THE SALON!!! Please do not go save yourself !!! I have tried Oceanside ulta salon, San Marcos salon and Escondido salon , I really want to like them but each time I go get my hair colored or cut it comes out extremely wrong I end up having to pay another salon to fix my hair ; I've gone on multiple occasions for different things and each time it's not good work and with different stylists too . Today I went in to add layers to my shoulder length hair I said not to take any more length from the bottom and I came out with more hair chopped off , I also asked to add some texture to my side bangs so that they weren't so round she hardly touched my bangs and when I asked to texture them she looked confused and wanted to give me a blunt bang cut which is what I said I didn't want on top of that I noticed the haircut itself is uneven one side is shorter than the other it's cut at a slant , my goodness the stories I have from the mistakes at ulta salon . Please !!! Save your money for a salon who would know so that you don't have to pay for someone else to fix ulta's mistakes- from a 24 year old girl who was just trying to feel pretty read more

Great haircut experience! I've had my hair cut twice with Denise and this weekend with Ashley and both ladies are terrific at what they do. I got tons of compliments on my hair yesterday at a family event which made me feel great. I have naturally curly hair with long layers and for some strange reason most other places I've gone to over the years never get it right. Denise and Ashley are friendly and professional. I never feel pushed to buy a service or product, but they've both made helpful suggestions and made me feel very comfortable. I would recommend them both. read more

My 13 year old daughter had 1/2 of her eyebrow waxed off in error today at Ulta and was then held hostage by the employee who would not let her get her mother who was sitting outside of the room. The employee said that it was due to using a new product that she had never used before. It would have been nice for the employee to ask me if it was ok to use my daughter as a ginny pig. I would have said no. Ulta did not charge us for the $12.00 waxing, but did charge us for the $20.00 eyebrow pencil it took to try to hide the fact that my daughter no longer had an eyebrow. Ulta called later and left a message that they would give us 20% off of our next purchase. What next purchase? They did not offer that on the eyebrow pencil at the time. I came to the Salon a couple of months ago and had Ashley work with my hair. She did a good job so I decided to go back yesterday but since it was a last minuet appt she wasn't able to help me. I got booked with Chelsea instead. I'd read many great reviews about her so I wasn't worried. I asked for a chocolate brown hair color and I ended up leaving with straight up black hair(which I'm pretty sure I could've given myself out of a box). While my hair was processing she decided to take her lunch break. I understand we all need our lunch but 45 minuets while you're with a client. Really? Then I asked for shorter layers added and she started chopping away at my hair and didn't even ask me how short I wanted the layers until she had already started. She ended up cutting at least 2 inches off even after I mentioned that I wanted to keep the length. I didn't even realize how shitty the layers were until the next day when I straightened my hair. On top of that, she offered me a deep conditioning and didn't even mention that it was going to cost extra. I can deal with a bad color but I can't deal with a bad cut! The entire time she just seemed careless with my hair. Moral of the story, I left with a way over priced shitty haircut and color. Next time I'll wait for Ashley! read more

They do carry higher end items than you find at Target. But 5 dollars for a mini nail-polish is a bit much for me. They have a salon inside that other reviewers seem very pleased with. Earlier this year I went in looking for lipstick and the lady who was helping me really took the time to listen to what I was looking for and helped me pick the perfect shade for my outfit. Ulta in general is my go-to place for beauty products. I love their makeup selection. They have a good assortment of higher end beauty products and also drug store brands. I go here on the regular for beauty products that I feel I shouldn't skimp out on in turns of quality: mainly foundation, powder, and concealer, but it is also great for everything else-- lip sticks, eye shadow, and brush. I'm not very adventurous on the makeup side, but their accessible and attractive displays for products have on several occasions intrigued me into getting products I hadn't used before e.g. eyebrow gel and primer. I usually come in for one thing and end up with more items than anticipated. I haven't bought anything I haven't been pleased with though. Ulta is awesome. read more

They always have a full inventory of both high end and drug store products. Since 90% of my makeup is high end, it's nice to come here and have such friendly staff always eager to help.
