My hairdresser of 7 years had to unexpectedly shut down her business so I had to find elsewhere to go for a trim. That was it, just a trim. No color, layers, etc. I have been searching around to see where I could get a simple trim to take 1-2 inches off but the minimum cost elsewhere was $80+ for a trim. I found this place thinking it wouldn't be an issue since it's JUST A TRIM. They couldn't mess up cutting a few inches off, at least that's what I thought. I was so wrong. You get what you pay for. Awful . The person who did my partial was the worst stylist ever. They were so rude and unprofessional. Every response out of their mouth had a tone etc. they weee pissed at the person who did booking as well as with a towel employee who was working at the time. I don't need to hear your snarky sighs because you don't like her! They didn't finish the service either and the place is super dirty. They had an old women sign some release that she would pay which I have never seen. I didn't have to sign one and I got the same service. This was the worst experience ever. Has the worst roots hair touch up from BAILEY, this experience has really bothered me for a couple of weeks ago she literary ruined all my red highlights that I love and am enjoying , my gray hair from both of my burn side there is still plenty gray hair also with her 10 fingernails are too long, she can't even wash off my scalp color, I got so itchy and when I scratch my head i saw five of my fingernails are all black. I called her and told her exactly what I just said and she told me " there is nothing i can't do " WTH ?? I can't believe she said that to customer and she didn't even say sorry. I was really upset and while we are talking she just hung up on me. I have never been so upset when going to a hairdresser before every time I look at my hair in the mirror, I get very upset. I will never go back there and highly recommend others choose a place that actually values customers time and efforts to try and support their businesses. BAILEY's nasty attitude and zero willingness to create happy customers that make me very upsetting for this experience has really bothered me for a few weeks to go through this as a client Fantastic Sams, you should really make sure the beauticians pass the beautiful school exam before you hire them and don't hire someone fresh out of beauty school with nasty attitude just to fill the chairs in your salon Strongly not recommended. read more

Just finished getting my hair done (cut and color) with Rosie and I loved it - all of it. From the first hello to paying the bill. I don't go very often to get my hair done. But when I do, I want to go to a person with enough experience so I can get it done right without any issues. Enter Ms. Rosie. She took care of everything I wanted and it came out great. One of the best haircoloring experiences I've had in a very long time. And I didn't leave with blots of dye stains on my hairline (like some places). Each brush stroke of applying the color was efficient and neat. She made me feel welcome and at ease. Some people come across as being forced to make small talk. She was just being herself and talking to her felt like an old friend just catching up. Now, that's rare!! Looking forward to coming back. If you decide to visit this location, ask for Rosie. First Impressions (prior to going inside): - Easy to find parking - Nice curb appeal, location wise near Albertsons This is my first time visiting this Fantastic Sams location. There were only two stylists working when I went in for my haircut. Luckily, upon arriving with no appointment I was able to be assisted immediately - no wait! Yay! I sat in the chair, showed my stylist a snapshot of what hairstyle I was hoping to achieve and we were off to getting my hair shampooed/washed. My stylist was very gentle and took her time washing my hair. Afterwards, she cut my hair and asked if I liked the look or wanted to go shorter. I originally wanted my hair to be shoulder length, but had a change of mind and went shorter. She proceeded to cutting more off without any hesitation. I'm very pleased with my experience here and will definitely be returning! read more

Groupon Buyers Beware I purchased a groupon voucher so that I could use it to trim 2 inches off of my hair, nothing major. According to the groupon, you need to make an appointment prior to going in so I tried to do that. A woman, named Megan, said that unless you have an actual appointment made with one of their "hair stylists," you can't make an appointment, instead you're considered a walk in. She then tells me that there is one person waiting. Not a problem since I seriously live 3 miles away. I get there and its pretty empty. They just finished a gentleman and another woman was cutting a child's hair. I walk up and tell her that I would like to trim my hair. I then try to explain to her that I have a groupon and suddenly all the excuses come out of her mouth: "oh she has an appointment... then I have an appointment... and then need to take my lunch.. and then i should be available at 4pm. Girl.... are you kidding me? It's 2pm and i just got off the damn phone with yall. GTFO. Needless to say, I walked out and immediately contacted Groupon and got a refund for my groupon because if this is the type of customer service I am to look forward to, they can take their voucher and choke on it. First and last time for sure. Do not waste your time and go somewhere where they wont find excuses. As for those working at Fantastic Sam's giving customers shade let me give you a clue, these type of deals are an easy way for you to create relationships with new clientele, ya know? I went in for a haircut last week after I purchased a Groupon. I called ahead of time to see if I needed to make an appointment based on how busy they were that day since my house isn't just around the corner. The lady told me "no we're not busy today, go ahead and come in whenever" in that case, I let her know I was on my way. Once I get there, the lady said they didn't have time and that I would have to wait at least an HOUR AND A HALF before they could seat me. I SPECIFICALLY called ahead of time to avoid this. I had already bought the Groupon so I was SOL. I waited. To top it all off, the haircut was horrible. It looks worse now than when I went in. I have to get another haircut just to fix what they did. She wanted to go to a high end expensive salon and TBH I didn't want to spend the money correcting her hair color that she messed up! I got my hair done by Alma at the Fantastic Sams located on Melrose in Vista. I don't even know where to begin. She was horrible! It was the worst hair experience of my life. I asked for a highlights touch up and explained that I only needed the roots done and not to overlap the lightener. Well she did and now I have a chemical haircut from her incompetence. The lightener also bled and caused me to have stripes on my head that looked like a zebra. Her idea of correcting this was to just use her texture shears (which by the way are just another name for thinning shears) she cut holes in my hair until I stopped her and complained. Now I have a bald spot in my hair. She then proceeded to lighten an area again, to blend it and I told her it wasn't right. Of course when she removed the lightener it was worse. I told her I wasn't letting her touch my hair anymore and asked the manager to fix it. Well she attempted to repair some of the damage Alma had created but it wasn't much better. In the end I left and had to work on my hair at home. I was in the salon for several hours because Alma was incredibly slow. If you do see her, I suggest you don't speak with her because she talks with her hands and stops service on your hair, thus taking an extremely long time. I've always been pleased with FS in the past. I'm afraid I'm done with them for good now. Please beware, I hate leaving bad reviews but y'all needed to hear this. read more

Because I've been out-of-state since 28 Aug 22 I have not had a chance to either call Fantastic Sams in Vista or to stop by their salon to voice my concern relating to my 27 Aug 22 men's hair cut visit. On 27 Aug 22, after my Fantastic Sams' haircut, as is my practice, I went home and took a shower. However, for two (+) weeks after my haircut, my head was consistently itchy. I've never experienced an itchy scalp before so I purchased "Selsan Blue", which is a specialized/medicated, albeit an "over-the-counter" shampoo, hoping to ameliorate the itchiness but it persisted. Finally, a full three weeks after my haircut appointment, the itchiness finally subsided. I should have queried the Fantastic Sams shop but I did not due to a busy out-of-state travel schedule. read more

I went in to this salon today and asked to get my eyebrows done. A super skinny gal with shaggy, short, reddish hair walked me to the hair washing station. While she was sitting me down I told her I was going to get my hair cut also. She was working on my eyebrows and ran out of strips and had to cut more, When she was working on my second eyebrow she proceeds to tell me she hadn't did eye brows in a long time and she doesn't ever do hers anymore. I was thinking OMG! When she was finished with them he didn't show them to me, just began washing my hair. My hair is long, just past the bra line and she tells me that my hair kept going in the drain causing it to tangle and she ripped her fingers through my hair trying to get the tangles out. I got up to go sit in the chair and saw my eyebrows and was in shock! They were thin, totally uneven and chopped up! She was brushing my hair and it was like she didn't know how to brush it! My hair was extremely tangled. I told her to give me the brush and I brushed my own hair and told her to take the cape off of me because she ruined my eyebrows so she wasn't going to ruin my hair. Yes, my eyebrows were really overgrown. But I never expected them to turn out as awful as they did. I could of done a better job myself with my eyes closed! I am sorry if I hurt the girls feelings but my goodness, If you don't know how to do something you should speak up! Now my eyebrows are going to look bad for like 3 months. I am even probably going to shave them off and start them over again the look so bad. My mom also got her hair cut by a different gal and she left with her hair all uneven and chopped up also.I can't believe that my mom paid for hers! My Husband was really upset and my family and friends couldn't believe how horrible we looked after stepping out of Fantastic Sams. I am so glad I didn't let that girl cut my hair! This place is hit or miss. I've gone here for the past 17 years b/c it is so conveniently located for me. But it is always always busy. so expect to wait for at least 20 minutes if you don't have an appt. They are best for simple stuff. This is definitely a budget place (Haircut for $20), but for someone like me who just gets trims and layers...it works just fine. So it's not a "hair experience", it's just a haircut. Liz is the best stylist there...so ask for her if you make an appt! read more
