This place is a joke. Tried to make an appointment today and rang the store. I was put on hold while the lady tried to find out what time the benefit bar opened until. I didn't get a reply after being put on hold for 5 minutes. I hung up and rang again. The lady said the bar will be open until the store was open (until 9) but the brow girl will be there until 7. I asked could I make an appointment and she said sure. I was put on hold for another 5 minutes before giving up. I presumed that it wouldn't be a big deal to make an appointment seeing as the brow bar was going to be open until 7 anyway. I arrived at the bar and stood there for 10 minutes. Nobody acknowledged me. I finally went to the blow dry bar and the receptionist told me the girl had gone home. She took me to another employee because she wasn't sure and I was told again that the girl had gone home. This was frustrating. My advise is to skip this brow bar and head right down the road to Macy's where I eventually got mine done within 5 mins with no appointment. read more

I was buying some press on nails for Valentine's Day and she was so sweet and helped me decide which ones to pick. Of course, I ended up getting both :) She also recommended going to ulta.com to get a three dollar off coupon to use right in the moment. And, she also changed my email and updated it for me quick as a wink! Bottom line, I never expect amazing service in big box stores but this girl was great - I wish I could recall her name. Absolutely horrible experience - will never come back here again after being a loyal customer to this location for several years. Got there about an hour before my brow appt, let them know I was early and whenever they are ready, I am here. Checked again but couldn't take me earlier. Got a couple things, waited in line 30 min ... 30 min !!! and asked to prepay for my brows at the checkout so I didn't have to wait again and they told me since it was 5 min after my appt they couldn't do them any more. Manager was unapologetic and the one who determined I couldn't do them any more. For someone who had to arrange childcare just to do this, it isn't easy to reschedule. The inventory and customer service experience was by far the worst I have even received at any Ulta Beauty store. I have been in several retail locations throughout the U.S., and today's experience at this location was very disappointing, to say the least. I was in the store for at least 45 minutes, and not ONE associate offered to help me with anything. I spent at least 30 minutes trying on different foundations, and I had a few questions, but I didn't want to interrupt the sales associates that were clearly more interested in talking with each other instead of helping the customers. I was not alone in my experience either, I asked another customer if she was offered any help, and she said, "No." This location may need to look into new management. read more

Okay so I'm a natural hair girly, with 4c hair. I went out on a limb and booked an appointment with a stylist that I saw while doing my Ulta haul because I saw she had hair with a texture similar to mine. I asked her if she knew how to do natural hair and she greeted me with a smile and giggled "yes". At the end of our very brief conversation, she gave me her card and I booked an appointment. So fast forward to my appointment, all of the Ulta girlies were so sweet. Rashaunda (my stylist) asked me to tell her about my hair, I'm which I gave her the nitty gritty. Typically, in my experience, stylists just immediately start, without getting MY opinion on MY hair as if they're more familiar with it than I am. They don't ask what your hair needs or what regimen you're following at home, so I knew from that point on "yeaaaah... sis is finna do her thang" AND HER THANG SHE DID! We shared some laughs, and the experience was overall just a great time. My hair is absolutely beautiful and she got it bone straight with just one pass of the flat iron. She added some body to it after cutting my ends (and no, she's not scissor happy and asked me if I was okay with the amount she wanted to cut before cutting my hair) like I asked. I have lived in Cali for 2yrs now, and have had incredibly trash experiences out here when it comes to my hair, but Rashaunda revived it for the whole state in my opinion. I definitely recommend her to all of the ladies who would like service, especially the natural ladies who want to be pampered with a fresh silky for the fall. Customer service is horrible at this location. When I asked for a particular product they gave me a blank stare, like how do you not know where your products are? You might as well shop online and guess. I walked around three hours in the store and no one asked if I needed help. Something about Ulta is off. Because I'm someone of color they seem to not care about us. I lost my wallet here as well, when I asked the "manager" to help and asked to see the security camera footage to try to locate it she didn't have access to it supposedly. She just brushed me off. I am here to update my Ulta review. I hadn't posted pictures because I'm embarrassed of the way "Kate" Katherine Keenan disfigured me. It has now been more than three years since my hair was permanently lost. I ended up losing about 70% of my hair, permanently! This has been the hardest thing in my life and up to this day I'm dealing with the consequences of Kate Keenan's negligence. I filed a complaint with the CA Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Kate was found to be at fault (guilty), but she got away with her horrific negligence by only paying a fine, while I will pay for this until the last day of my life. My everyday life is now a constant struggle, Every. Single. Day. I go through the heartache and pain her negligence caused. I lost all myself self-esteem as a girl and also my essence and identity. Ulta Beauty never apologized, not even once, nor did Kate Keenan. Instead, Ulta promoted her, which is disgusting and a slap in the face. I have so much pain and suffering that I have gone to therapy (talk) for my hair loss. My hair loss is all over my scalp, not just in one or two areas; there's no solution to my problem. NO PRP, no transplant, nothing. My follicles died off due to the trauma that Kate Keenan caused to my scalp. My scalp was on fire and painful for many months after she performed the hair services. I will post the case number to show I am not lying about this. Before you go see Kate, you should think twice. She is negligent, heartless, and has no integrity. If you look through the reviews for Ulta, you will find that she reviews herself. As far as I know, no one is allowed to review their own work on Yelp. She also invites you to come see her. This is disrespectful, disgusting and unprofessional behavior. No honesty from her nor Ulta. I am attaching pictures of my hair so you can now see with your own eyes the truth behind Kate Keenan's work. Needless to say, I have been going through hell ever since September 2016, when I went in for a hair appointment with Kate. For me, that was the day my life ended. I used to live but now I just exist. Hair loss is one of the most terrifying things that can happen to a woman. I am still going through depression, loss, and grief - all this without even an apology from Ulta or Kate. Ulta should at least have the decency to fire her. The CA Board of Barbering and Cosmetology found her guilty, but like I said, she paid a fine and was subsequently promoted by Ulta. I also filed a lawsuit against Ulta Beauty and Kate. Ulta offered a settlement but it was ridiculous and added insult to injury. The most unacceptable part was that in order for me to take any settlement, I would never be able to talk about this incident - no social media, no reviews, no news station involved, no telling anyone, nothing. I would have to shut my mouth forever and feel the pain and suffering silently. Please beware of Kate Keenan. She still works at the salon in oceanside. Please beware of Ulta salon as a whole, they do not follow any kind of proper procedures when working with your hair. Since I took no settlement, I kept my right to speak, which is why I'm here, warning you about this monster of a person. I hope Yelp realizes Kate reviews her own work on this site. Also, Yelp took down my first review a few days after the posted date. I contacted yelp and asked why (I'm sure Ulta had it removed). Ultimately, Yelp reposted my first review and sent me an email apologizing for removing it, and also gave me permission to review and post photos of this horrible nightmare. You can verify what I'm saying by logging into the CA Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and typing the name of the stylist. Also, for your own safety, check your stylist ask for cosmetology license number or full name before getting your hair done. I truly hope to save at least one person from going through this never ending pain of permanent hair loss caused by a reckless hair stylist. read more

We went in to see about trying a new products. After the initial greeting, we were completely ignored. The two associates that greeted us continued on with their conversation as if the store was empty. Not ONE person asked if we needed help. On our way to the checkout we ran into the only true sales associate in the store. I don't know her name but she is a 5'8" beautiful black woman. She asked us questions and answered ours. At checkout, on of our products (2 separate sales) came with a free gift worth $38.00. Neither associate mentioned this so I asked. We were told that the free gifts hadn't arrived. I come to this Ulta location due to proximity to my home. It's okay... I don't buy too much stuff here. Store is generally clean, staff is nice, although, beauty products can be pricey. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I use to love coming to this ulta, the staff were friendly. But the last few times I've come, the staff are rude, condescending, and give off a mean girl vibe, I feel uncomfortable at times because of the way they just whisper to each other and the way they look at me or customers. The service is just awful. Yesterday I did an online order, never got an email, 6hrs had passed so I went to see if it was ready. Nope... it was three little things too. I said okay, I would come later before closing. Never got the email saying my things were ready. They couldn't get my order ready in 9hrs? That's ridiculous. Other online orders were being fulfilled. So now, I have to drive the half an hour AGAIN, just to go pick up my order which apparently some items aren't available anymore. I've worked with customers in fast food, and I get it gets hard especially when it's crazy busy, but that's zero excuse for the way they treat their customers here at this ulta. So I just went to Ulta off el Camino real in Carlsbad I went in to grab Matrix sleek conditioner and I also grabbed matrix insta cure.. grabbed some mascara.. It's difficult for me to enter inside due to the strong smell of synthetic fragrance, however it's the only local spot I know of that carries Bare Minerals, so I go maybe twice a year. I've cut out all synthetic fragrance (parfum) as it can include carcinogens, allergens, respiratory irritants, endocrine disruptors, and neurotoxic chemicals. When you cut it out, you become very sensitive to it (may not have a reaction, but can hardly stand being near it). While I was looking at Tarte products, the lady on the left of me said her brand (I forget the name) is new and very clean, uses avocado oil, and began trying to sell to me. She offered to try the foundation on me; I asked if it contains synthetic fragrance to which she replied "No", and even double-checked with the other lady (her boss?) who was also there, and she confirmed "No". She applied it to my face and the smell was just outrageously strong. I commented about it and they claimed the smell is the avocado oil to which I replied "No, that's not it", and after a couple attempts I finally obtained the ingredient list which listed "Fragrance (Parfum)" pretty high up on the list. I could hardly stand my face, drove straight home with all the windows down, and washed my face 3 times over to get rid of the super strong synthetic fragrance smell. I felt gross. I'm leaving 1 star as no one should answer "No" to an ingredient without actually KNOWING the answer. This was incredibly offensive to me as I'm extremely sensitive to synthetic fragrance and they should be HONEST, but they were not. It's fine to say "I don't know, let me check", and then ACTUALLY check the FULL ingredient list before answering. Ugh. read more

Another hot spot for beautiful women, cosmetics, a hair salon and men's grooming products. Guess which one I come here for, yup you guessed it the cosmetics. Okay for real I come here for the Jack Black products which is a little pricey but well worth it. There are tons of pretty women here but a lot of them in my opinion have way too much make up on. I wish more women were all natural or close to it. Anyway whenever I'm here I'm usually the only guy so I definitely stick out but I don't care. The employees always ask if I need anything and to let them know if I do. They also have a few grooming brands and several lines of cologne. 1. This has nothing to do with the staff personality-wise, they have always been helpful and polite and ready to answer any questions I have. And I'm basing this off ONE visit, compared to my many. But I have only been their bathroom once before. 2. The stars reflect the state of the store, specifically the more affordable products, like Revlon and that side of the store. It is always a mess, products are open and have smeared on displays and is disorganized, not everything but quite a few shelves. The products and displays in state of disarray gives me a low opinion of how much work they actually do, since it is very important to maintain a clean store. But being the holidays, I'm sure it will be bad in all the stores, not just Ulta, with all the shoppers and careless people who destroy the work employees perform to keep the store looking nice and stocked. But what REALLY has me writing here is the state of the bathroom. As soon as I walked in, I was hit with a smell that was very unpleasant, as if the feminine hygiene trash cans in the stalls were full of used feminine products that hadn't been changed in far too long. Old blood on top of other toilet activities, not something that I want to smell. I kid you not, I had to put my shirt up over my nose to handle the stench. IT WAS AWFUL. I had to pee very bad, but it did cross my mind to hold it because it was so awful. The floor was wet, covered in dirty footprints, with paper towels on the floor. No toilet paper or seat covers in the stalls. The stalls themselves were dirty. I've had a better time in a portable toilets. I realise this may all seem super overboard, I dont usually complain, but this needs attention and needs to change. I was very uncomfortable and it was disgusting. I understand their job out front is way more fun than cleaning a bathroom, but upkeep isn't hard and it is very important to have a sanitary bathroom for customers. Kara is an absolutely amazing Chanel artist. She did a makeover for me, suggested products when I asked, explained what she was doing each step of the way, and made sure I was able to use the products I purchased. I had the makeover in advance of a high school reunion. I explained to Kara that I had to look as good as possible. Kara was very knowledgeable, skilled, and pleasant. Her skills were truly unbelievable! I left there looking 15 years younger than when I walked in! I was truly amazed at the magic she was able to work for me. I understand things happen but with such short notice there should have been an offer of a discount on a rescheduled appointment. I did NOT have a good experience here. A friend recommended Ulta Salon for a blowout at a resonable price. I came in the morning of Saturday March 23rd after making an apt online. I told the stylist (Elana M.) that my hair tends to get frizzy and I asked her to use products that would help keep my hair looking nice for the wedding I was attending that afternoon. At the shampoo bowl I was up saled a scalp scrub treatment (Scalp Renew Treatment $27). I asked how much it would cost and the reply I got was "Not that much more". That's when I should have known better. Then she recommended a Keratin treatment (Express Keratin Treatment Add-On $60). When I asked how much it costs she said "Nothing extra- it's included in your service." So, I agreed. Mind you- I don't know much about hair. I'm a busy mom for 3 littles and haven't been taking care of myself/treating myself so I really wanted to look nice. She continued to explain to me how my hair was dry, and the ends were brittle and asking me when the last time I got a haircut was. I told her I have a 8 month old and two boys and don't prioritize myself so I haven't seen my stylist since October. When she starting drying my hair and I assume applying the product ?!? she was telling me how I can't get my hair wet. Mind you...it was raining outside. To which I said "Oh what do you mean by wet?" and she said don't go swimming, wash it, or go in a sauna. After my service she was having issues printing the invoice. I was in a bit of a time crunch as my appointment was taking longer then I anticipated. She handed me the paper (folded in half inside itself) and explained that I pay at the register upfront. There was a long line to check out so my focus at that point was to get in line. When I went to pay was when I had discovered that my blowout cost me $130! I was honestly stunned and in a time crunch. I'm not the best with confrontation. Needless to say- the hair did NOT last. There was no volume. I was EXTREMELY disappointed and irritated. I felt like I had been taken advantage of. I called the salon on Sunday March 24th to express my dissatisfaction. Unfortunately there was no management there at the time but the receptionist assured my that someone would call me back. A gave it a few days and attempted to explain what happened again on Tuesday March 26th. I was told that this was unusual and that they NEVER have had anyone complain before about this type of thing happening. She told me that they would speak to Elana. When asked what they can do to make it right I said "I would like to be reimbursed for the $60 treatment that I was told was included. I don't mind paying for the blowout and scalp treatment" (even though I was dissatified with how my hair held up) but I feel it isn't fair to expect to have the whole service reimbursed. She told me that she would speak to the costumer service management and I would hear back from them in a day or two. Fast forward, it's now April 6th. No one has called.
