I landed in Phoenix today and realized that my Kenta flat iron no longer worked. I was so ticked. I had this Flatiron for 20 years now, but oh well off I went to Ulta to replace it. Normally when I visit Ulta, I'm being told to go there by my friend Angie because they have some great sale long. I was hoping I could get a good deal on a flat iron, but no cigar. The One that I found was on sale for 59.99. I didn't know how I would like it so imagine my surprise when I got it home and it worked like a dream. CONS: the customer service is nonexistent. I felt invisible the whole time I was standing there trying to figure out the difference in flat irons. This would never happen in a Sephora. I figured that this place would take care of the customers a little better. I mean, I knew exactly the product I wanted to purchase, no one would help me . From the moment I walked it, I felt invisible. There were plenty of employees but no one helping customers other than the one or two cashiers. I came into this location on my lunch break looking to just pick up some primer and Candace approached me to see if I was doing alright. We began talking about how my primer just wasn't cutting it and I was in dyer need of some make up education. Candace took time to explain to me what was going to best for my skin and she actually ended up doing a color match along with some helpful skills to better apply my make up. It may seem like something small but it honestly made me feel better about myself and more confident. She had me walking out of the store with a smile on my face a feeling way more confident about my appearance. She was very knowledgeable and professional and also didn't make me feel dumb for asking questions. read more

My boyfriend took me here to get me out of using my cheap makeup and Jacci helped us out and I couldn't have asked for better help. She knew just what I needed and helped me without once seeming annoyed with allnmt questions. I mean her skin was perfect! Her skin was the goals for my skin. Beautiful! Simply beautiful. I left spending more than I wanted but Mrs. Jacci was right on just what I needed. I got so many samples which makes me excited! Here's the scoop if you don't know Ulta: it's a Total. Chick. Store. Find hair products (shampoos, conditioners, styling), tools (irons, curlers, dryers, headbands, bows, clips), makeup (all kinds), lotions, sunscreens, shower soaps, facial skincare, and a salon. They carry some high-end stuff but not everything, e.g. no Christian Dior, bumble & bumble... I've been shopping at Ulta for years, and in several different cities...this isn't the best Ulta I've ever been in but they usually have what I want. The most obvious (and irritating) difference at this location is that the employees don't give you your current rewards points total at the time of your transaction, nor do they ask if you'd like to redeem them to get your purchase discounted (sometimes by a LOT, depending on how many points you've accumulated). Parking is another issue for this location... Ulta is smack between an Old Navy and a Michael's craft store, and in the same vicinity as a Best Buy, Marshalls, Staples and Last Chance. I'd be better off -- in more ways than one -- to hop my mountain bike up here. I ordered a couple things from Ulta.com and had them delivered home over the holidays...may have to start doing that more often. read more

I was looking for a retinol cream when Lilia K approached me to offer assistance. She commented on my complexion, stating that it looked very irritated and she asked me if I had rosacea. I was so horrified that someone would ask that out loud to a potential customer. I do not have rosacea. My face is a little sunburnt from being outside. I laughed it off and denied the rosacea. She then began to ask me questions of what skin products I use or don't use and every time I answered her, she responded in a judgemental way as if I'm doing everything wrong. I'm in my early twenties, my skin is decent, but I'm wanting to get a head start on good skin care. I think she was trying to convince me into thinking I needed more than what I came in for but she ended up offending me. Poor customer service read more

Let me start by saying that I have my hair professionally maintained on both a monthly and weekly basis. I see a long time stylist every four weeks for a color retouch, and for connivence reasons I visit Ulta every week for a professional blowout. I have never had such a sub par unprofessional encounter in the entire 20 years that I have been getting my hair professionally done. I had an appointment for 11 - my prior obligation( in the same parking lot) ran over. had contacted the salon at Ulta and let them know that I was running just a few minutes behind and they let me know to still come in for my appointment. I arrived approximately four minutes after I made the phone call to the salon- I was not met with warm greeting at all by an older gentleman named Franco- He said had I have been another two minutes late he would've been unable to perform my service- He took me back to the rinse bowl where I then took my hair down and let him know that it is a split dye meaning one side needs to be washed separately from the other one side- red on one side other side is a platinum blonde- He proceeded to wet my hair down and I quote tell me "I do not have time for this hon" At first he separated my hair in the bowl and let one side hang over while he washed the other side by the end of the wash both sides of my hair were mixed together in the bowl allowing the red to bleed into the platinum blonde-Apart from that he used hot water any hair care professional trying to maintain the integrity of platinum blonde hair and red hair knows you should be doing a cold water wash also why I get my hair professionally washed- I was extremely irritated but figured I am already here my hair is already wet I just need to push through and get out of here- He was not gentle at all and about ripped an earring out of my ear which caught me completely off guard -At the end of the wash I was gestured to go back to his chair to where he had very lightly spritzed my hair with a product I am unfamiliar with- And proceeded to literally rake through my hair with a pic by the end of it I had two medium size clumps of hair beneath the chair- I did not say one single word to this man during the entire process of him racking through my hair- When he was done he walked away and the general manager came over and let me know that he would not be able to continue my service because he was not comfortable doing so-They did not provide me a reason as to "why@ it was absolutely the worst encounter I have ever experienced as someone who spends thousands of dollars at Ulta a year I will never be coming back to this establishment or any other Ulta beauty. Their management is unprofessional their "stylists" operate haphazardly and with no regard for their clients or integrity of their hair. read more

I was seen by Melissa for my salon visit and she did an absolutely amazing job! I normally get a "balayage" but instead Melissa recommended a Color Melt. Less heat to my hair, so less damage! She did wonderful working with me while she also had another client. She took her time and didn't rush any part of the process. The salon in general was great with working me into their schedule when I was originally scheduled for the next day and I really needed to get in. I've been going to Ulta Salon for a long time now and they're a great salon; I can compare them to other salons in the area and they're definitely worth going to and I can recommend multiple stylists but Melissa did wonders and I will definitely go back to her in the future! read more

I've been shopping at ULTA all around the country for so many years yet this one store is the worst one in the entire US! The service is horrendous. There is almost never anyone around to help you out and when there is, they don't know a thing. There is one girl that is just the dictionary definition of a bitch and everyone seems to go back to her for everything so even if you are lucky enough to find someone, this someone would go to Miss Bitch and you end up being abuse by her no matter what. I really enjoy browsing this Ulta. I'm the type of person who loves to browse without being interrupted a bajillion times during my visit and the employees here are helpful without being too intrusive. I enjoy browsing the perfumes and cologne here as well. They don't always have the testers to try, but my husband and I have been told that there has been quite a few thefts of the tester bottles, so that is unfortunate. The cashiers are super friendly, and I've always had pleasant encounters with the security guards at the front. The testers can sometimes be gross and dried out but with the amount of foot traffic this location receives, it is to be expected! read more

I somehow lost my toiletry bag on a recent flight back home from Calgary. Unfortunately inside that bag was all of my make-up, some fabulous face moisturizer, tweezers, perfume, etc... I went several days without all of this stuff, and despite what my husband says (he hates me in make-up by the way), I didn't feel too pretty. So I made time to visit this Ulta to get a few necessities. It was my first time at this location and I was pleasantly surprised! They carry everything I was looking for and oh so much more. From hair and skin care lines to perfume and make-up. This Ulta has you covered! Caution as you shop though: despite the moderate prices, everything adds up! I had a $25 gift card and it didn't get me very far! If you are in need of new toiletries like I was and/or you find yourself looking for cosmetics, fragrance, shampoo, conditioner, a hairdryer, or basically anything to help beautify, this Ulta has you covered! And while I'd happily shop here again, I hope not to have to for awhile. Lesson learned: do not put a toiletry bag with everything you own in your suitcase and check it through with your checked baggage, but if you do, Ulta will come to the rescue! read more

I usually only buy beauty products at a department store or Sephora but ULTA is a lot closer, I run there when I'm in a jam. I would consider the shopping experience here a small step up from Walgreens. It has the necessities but not the items you never knew you needed. Very small selection of brand named make-up, skin care and perfumes. Over priced hair care and hair accessories. I'm always bummed out when I walk around. As for the staff, can't stand them. Perhaps I'm spoiled by other places that like to tell you what's new, which items come with gifts or help you pick a color. Nope, not ULTA. There's usually ONE girl working the register, no matter how big the line. The rest of the staff is coagulated by this counter in between the make-up and hair salon. I have no idea what purpose that counter serves because they're all clustered around it, putting make-up on each other and gossiping about the girl at the register - you know, the one actually working. The one time I did actually pull one away to ask for help with liquid eye liner she handed me one of those pencil eyeliners that don't need to be sharpened. Ugh, thanks for nuthin'. read more

Usually, I LOVE ULTA! Unfortunately, this Ulta is the worst I've ever experienced and constantly disappoints me. The store shelves are constantly disorganized and their products are out of stock, especially those which have deals in the weekly ad. Last week, I went to get my hair cut and the stylist stopped by to say she would be '10 minutes out as she was finishing a blow dry' ... 35 minutes later, I look over and she is basically curling each of the hair's on this lady's head into ringlets. I kindly told one of the customer service representatives to let the stylist know I would be leaving and was no longer interested in getting any services. Lastly, the PARKING at the Esplanade is awful! I try not to write too many negative reviews on Yelp but this one needs to be heard... Nonetheless, I won't be returning to this Ulta ever again. read more

I have been to many Ulta locations and this is the worst. They are always out of stock on sku's and when I ask an associate, I am told they don't have it and check another location. The cash wrap is always about 20 people deep on weekends. I am never shopping at Ulta again. I placed an order and it defaulted to my old address. I called immediately and they assured me the order was canceled and I could reorder, so I did. This morning I get an email saying it actually did not cancel and I'm stuck with both orders, too bad. I called both customer service, demanded a manager, and called a store manager and no luck. So now who ever moved into my old place just got a $75 housewarming present. I am also returning the one that does show up and reordering it all at Sephora. I had a Sephora order stuck in transit last week and they refunded me no issue. I also had a Carter's order default to the wrong address and they changed it right away. So, ulta's lack of care is not the standard and there are plenty of places to do business that will take care of their clients. read more

My friend and I went into this Ulta location because she needed a new mascara and had heard about this new brand she wanted to try out. Upon entering the store, no one was there to greet us and being new to the store we walked around aimlessly for a good 10 minutes before we found what we were looking for. No one asked us for help and no one was really around. I was pretty shocked by the lack of customer service as I too was looking for a specific eyeliner and had no help in service so I decided I would look elsewhere and waited as my friend found her mascara. When we got to the register the lady was kind but didn't offer us the rewards program they have going on. The only reason my friend was able to sign up was because she had heard about it and asked about it herself which prompted the lady behind the counter to then give a bit more information about the program. On 2/15/24 I was kicked out of this location absolutely no reason. I had a group of friends that I came with and I had originally entered by myself not knowing that one of them was held up in the car doing something on their phone for work and that the other had gone into TJ Maxx first. From the moment I had entered the store I was being asked if I needed help with anything probably every five minutes or less by different attendants to an obvious extent that I was not wanted there which made me anxious quickly as I suffer from CPTSD. So while browsing I would occasionally do a quick glance over the whole store and look around for my friends as well as look out the front windows to see if I saw them coming towards the store which by the time I was getting told I had to leave the first time I had seen them coming. I was told that they would be happy to show me their policies and handbook on why I was not allowed to be in there because from what I gathered I was not looking at things? When they saw that my friends were coming they quickly wrote this off as they were just concerned about my safety because it looks like I was looking for somebody or concerned somebody was following me. Though it took less than 10 minutes after the same behavior of me being constantly asked if I needed help with anything I finally snapped (Which when I tell you this never happens I mean this NEVER happens) and basically asked What the issue was and I told them that I would be leaving because there are plenty other ultas where I know I would get much better treatment. They asked if I would like to let my friend know and I said sure if you could. And I quickly stormed out of there intending to make this review and call right away but my friend had already started doing so and said that they would be calling me in the morning later in the week. Right after I left they approached my friend and told her " your friend is waiting outside." To which she replied "cool I'm going to continue shopping." And then they proceeded to kick her out and said it was because we all came in smelling like some thing. I knew my friend was planning on buying entirely new make up and spending hundreds of dollars and I was myself planning on spending money here as well and know where did we look bad or as if we were doing something bad. I have gone into plenty other stores looking way worse than I had that day. Also if that were the case then it would not add up because I under the loan originally and not with a group. I know that my friend had a smoked a blunt in the car which even if that were the smell and that was the case as to why they were kicking us out it is completely illegal and there is no way that I'm going to believe somewhere in the handbook it says must kick people out that smell like marijuana. I'm pretty sure I've never seen that rule anywhere in public stores. I never end up reviewing things when I get angry but the specific situation completely had me more than upset and feeling very disrespected for no reason. read more

Ulta is usually my go to and since this location is close to my work I thought it would be great to go here after work or on my lunch. I have been multiple times and the staff is extremely rude, do not offer help, and seem so pissed off when you do ask a question. I approached one employee to ask if they carried oval brushes, in a horrible tone he asked "oval brush?", then when I explained what they look like he glared at me while pointing to a brush nearby (didn't ask if I had a brand preference), and then walked off. There was another occasion I went to return an eyebrow pencil and the girl at the counter insisted I tell her what was wrong with it before I could return it. When I told her I didn't like the consistency of the product or the way it applied she told me I was wrong and everyone loves that product. The parking is terrible, the staff are garbage, and you're better off going to a different location. read more

This location seems to be low in stock on a few items. I went to purchase Aqua Di Gio the other day, and they were out of the smaller bottles. The whole men's cologne section looked a little bare. Another thing that isn't the greatest here is the parking. The whole lot facing Camelback Road is a total cluster. I was skeptical to get my hair done at ulta because its not like normal salons you typically see but i get my hair done at ulta on Bethany and 19th ave and my stylist does a fonaminal job with my hair and im going blonde. So, my stylist was busy 2 weeks ago i wanted layers, so i decided to book an appointment with Tomas at the Ulta on camelback (this one). He did a good job with the layers I will not complain about that. What i am going to complain about is how he charged me $80 for straightening my hair AND burning my scalp. He would spray on this hair heat resistant spray and immediately after he would iron my hair and it would sizzle. He burnt my hair and charged me for a style which comes with the cut. read more

I usually enjoy working with the employees at Ulta but if you have someone who is a "make up expert" I have very simple expectations. I went in for a new foundation and I asked if I could be color matched and obviously the lighting in Ulta is terrible so the match I was given looked like it was good in the store but as I'm wearing my new foundation it's 100% not a match with my skin color. Now I have to take time out of my personal life to go back and return this completely wrong color, all I'm saying is if your employees are going to have that title under their name tag they can Atleast know how to color match your paying customers. Comparing Sephora and Ulta is quickly becoming like comparing Walmart and Target, there's just no competition, Sephora is so much better. I walked in with the goal of testing and buying a new foundation. I walked toward the 'Prestige Cosmetics' area where three employees were talking amongst themselves, which continued well after they saw me. Th conversation was not work appropriate and yet they didn't seem to get that. After about five minutes, I finally asked a male employee for assistance. He was visibly annoyed and came over to help me. He quickly matched my shade, handed me the box and went back to his conversation. I got in line and there was one cashier for a line of 6 people, who while checking customers out was shouting to her coworker a few aisles over. I am not sure where the manager was, but it's clear they have zero control over their store. Totally unprofessional. read more

Ugh. Unfortunately I've been really disappointed by the Ulta stores in the Phoenix area. Ulta used to be my go-to for makeup/ beauty products because they carry a good mix of premium and drug store products, but the last few times I've been in this store, I've been kind of overwhelmed and frustrated by the service and selection. I came in today to get a replacement brush for my Clarisonic, and walked around for about 10 minutes. The first five minutes i couldn't find what I needed and the second five I couldn't find someone to help me find it. I witnessed the most disgusting act here. Some employee with deep red hair was basically belittling a customer about I believe it was hair dye to purchase. It appeared she was tying to dye her own hair. I don't go here very often and I will not be going back in this ulta or any ulta. KAYLA, so glad I kept my receipt to figure out who rung me out because the worst customer service award goes to you. Came in to return a juvias lip liner because I did not like the color. (No tester out on the shelf). I had previously came in to return a different lip liner and asked if they still had it to help save inventory but understand how it can be a safety hazard but instead goes "all the damaged products are already in the back and so you're gonna have to grab a new one on the shelf" in a rude loud tone! I told her sorry and that I changed my mind, I went back and grabbed a new one and while exchanging she had a pissed look on her face she asks to print the receipt and said "going to need your signature incase you change your mind again". She puts it in the bag and tosses it away in front of me. I just left. Girl sorry that my return ruined your mood so bad to treat me this way but you need to learn to have some respect or just be nice to people if your representing ulta. read more

Went to ulta after getting my hair done to pick up a curling wand, texture spray and a hair mask and after wandering around for about 30 minutes lost and outta my element (I dont know much about hair care/styling) when I was approached by a super friendly ulta employee named shelby who helped me find the perfect texture spray that also fit my budget. She also gave me advice on how best to use the product and curl my hair with the wand I was buying. This is definitely my go to ulta from now on! read more

Walking into this store do not expect any help from any anyone that works there. My Bf and I walked into Ulta, looked around and there was at least 4 employees just standing around in a circle talking to eachother did not give us the time of day and it was VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. We had no idea where to go in the store to look for a product. We finally had to take the initiative to walk up to a worker ourselves and ask for help. It took 3 employees to finally help us as it seemed like they were just passing us around. We ended up buying a $50 face mask for the sake that we didn't want to go anywhere else. I go to Ulta all of the time. Mostly in the south east valley. I was traveling for work and needed to pick up a few things. This store was way below par of what I have come to expect at Ulta. The staff was friendly and helpful, but were hard to locate when I needed them. The men's fragrance section was a mess. No testers for much of their selection, empty testers of others that I wanted to test. When I was trying to match a new foundation the bulbs were burnt out at the makeup stations, the trash from others trying on makeup was all over the counters. So I thought that this Ulta store would be nice because of its location in the Biltmore area. It is the worst Ulta I've ever been to. It's dirty and unorganized. The testers are filthy and there aren't all the appropriate tools to properly test some items. The workers are fairly friendly. I asked one for an eyebrow brush to try some brow pomade and I kid you not, it looked like you be of those brushes you'd get in a kids paint set. They also didn't have any MAC products like the store in Tempe. Save yourself the headache and go to the store in Tempe Marketplace instead. read more
