I had stopped at this Ulta to pick up an online order, however, I stayed & shopped because the wonderful Sophia was just so charming & fun! We immediately bonded over my pick-up purchase (Chanel foundation). I then asked her if she had recommendations for color correction for a bruise on my chin. She recommended different products in different price ranges & even took the time to test several shades on my face. We geeked out talking about favorite skin care products we love. Bottom line: Sophia is friendly, knowledgeable & a lot of fun. She turned an ordinary product pick up into a joyful experience. It's been a long while since I've visited an Ulta, but I was thankful to find this location while out on my travels. Unsure if it's always that busy, but it seems Sunday afternoon brought in more than a few customers. During my visit, I overheard the manager telling an unmasked customer they'd have to leave & come back with mask. That said, it was nice to hear the mask mandate being enforced. I found my items quickly & headed to check out. When I got to the cashier, I was hurriedly signed up for Ulta's rewards program, which felt more like being forced to be honest. My fault for being too polite, but I really had no interest in doing so - I dislike when you're asked to provide a bunch of info. I just want to purchase my items & leave. I don't think I'll be returning to this location any time soon. While somewhat convenient, I prefer the Lakeview location. read more

I decided to swatch the testers to see which one would suit me best. One of the stocker associates told me I'm not supposed to open the new products as I was struggling to open one of the testers since my nails made it difficult. I was confused as I was clearly only grabbing the ones that were displayed as testers with the stickers, so once I mentioned that I only used the testers she made no more comments. I understand wanting to notify customers that only certain ones could be opened, but it felt like she gave me a side eye and it just made me feel uncomfortable when she could've admitted she misunderstood the situation. This is my favorite Ulta! The staff is great here. I know nothing about make up and I always tell them that, and they're helpful in their product suggestions. I don't feel like they're just trying to get me buy something expensive or something I don't know how to use. I appreciate that. They tell me if I have coupons available. Every sales associate asked if I needed help. Everyone was nice and the store was laid out nicely for a guy visiting ULTA. Had a manager ring me out. Very easy to sign up for the rewards card. Location wise? It is great. Support from staff? Could be better. I have come here several times as I live 1.5 miles away but it has been consistently inconsistent. I am really bad at make up, incredibly impatint and one impulsive buyer. If you talk to me and suggest me things to buy I will buy your whole store and believe you and all the suggestions you have for me. I have come here spent 6 mins and walked out with 160 dollars worth of products. I have also spent 20 mins and only gotten one eyeliner and left because the consultants are not helpful. Anyway, I assume covid has been affecting them like any other business as they are out of a lot of things but thats why you need beauty consultants, to steer you to other options. The response from Ulta Beauty was that they were sorry we couldn't find all of the products we wanted, and that some things fly off the shelf. And that they don't match competitor's prices... Nice response, however, I wasn't complaining that they wouldn't match Amazon's price, I was complaining that because they didn't have it in the store, they would have to order it for delivery to my home. The item was on sale for 30% off in the store, but I would have to pay FULL PRICE to have it delivered. I was in the store, but I would have had to pay an extra $6 to have it delivered. The manager couldn't do anything for us, since she didn't have a coupon code to apply there was nothing she could do for us. The store didn't even try to see if any other stores in the area had the item we wanted. Ulta gets an undeserved 1st at review for lousy customer service. read more

I like this location MUCH better than the Harlem location across the street from the Harlem and Irving Mall. I came here yesterday around closing time, and they were surprisingly very nice. I worked in retail, and I know how annoying late stragglers are, but I came in with my boyfriend at 8:50 when they were closing at 9pm, and they were still very helpful. I thankfully knew exactly what I wanted and I wasn't that a-hole who looked around for hours. The one worker asked if she can help me with anything in particular, and I am so glad she came up to me and asked in a friendly way because she let me know that they didn't have the one brand I was looking for, but they do sell the Becca highlight that I wanted. I just didn't know where it was located in the store, so she walked me right to it. The workers here have always been very nice, and unlike the Harlem store, they don't follow you around assuming that you are stealing products. I have never gotten my hair or makeup done here because my mom is a hairstylist and I just do my own makeup, so I do not have any review on how they do with that, but the store itself is very clean and organized and I have never had a negative experience from any worker at this particular location. read more

I don't use the salon so this review is for the store only. I've never had a problem and in fact, the sales people have always been friendly and helpful to me. I come here for my daughter's dance makeup and for the colognes and perfumes. Love the regular coupons in my email! What I find most disappointing is that Ulta now carries MAC, which is my favorite cosmetics line, yet this location doesn't have it! Ugh!! I walked into your store about 7pm Friday night looking to try a whole new method and products for my face. I was looking around and felt lost. LOL As I was looking around, I gave up and finally asked for help. I asked this lady named Lonnise, if she could help me in finding me a new products for my face as in primer, concealer, moisturizer, foundation, you name it. She suggested a couple brands and actually took the time to explain each product and help me try some on. She had patience and grace when attending to me. A couple people around us needed help as well. And let me tell you, she did her best to attend to us all. I have never been to an ULTA and felt so happy with customer service I receive. As I was walking out, she made sure to tell me, "have a good night and make sure to tell me how products worked for you". I've been a returning customer at this location for years, but after an experience I had yesterday I will most definitely not be coming back. I came in late evening to buy a perfume, the young lady at the register was extremely helpful and kind. However, I believe it may have been one of the managers that was being extremely demeaning towards the young lady on the register. This manager was talking down on her and being disrespectful/demeaning and it was extremely disheartening to witness. This manager should be fired! I'm not sure of the name of this specific manager but she has blonde hair. This was such an unfortunate situation I had to witness. THIS IS FOR THE STORE ONLY! I have been going to the Skokie Ulta (in addition to others) for many, many years, much like most women. I have never had a bad experience, until my last visit at the Skokie store - which, ironically, will be my last visit. I reached out to management to voice my concern/complaint - to no avail. It is apparent big box stores don't care about individual customers - to be expected, I guess. I am a manager at a small, independent animal hospital, and every once in a while when we have an unhappy guest we take it very seriously. Slightly disappointed that they do not feel the same. But again, not surprised. I will NEVER return to another Ulta - and I am very happy Whole Foods has amazing cruelty-free products, at great prices. Oh yeah, and amazing customer service. read more

I came here looking for Cargo products but Ulta doesn't carry Cargo anymore. I asked the cashier and she rudely said she didn't know is customer non existent here? Another salesperson approaches me minutes later and asked if i needed help. At least this one was a bit friendlier. I asked her if they carry Anastasia and they did. The store lacks a lot of product that Sephora or Target carries. I went to ring my order to the same rude cashier and showed her a $3.50 online coupon but she couldn't redeem it. I will never come back. Last $55 I'll spend here. In another occasion I was looking for a heavy duty concealer and spent a good hour on the same section. The salesperson grew impatient with me trying to decide which product to buy she literally said "we're about to close in 3 minutes." I was rushed out. Ulta has gone to shit. read more

I got my first keratin treatment last summer with Jackleen and have been getting them every 12-14 weeks since. Before the keratin treatments my hair took forever to dry, it was super frizzy no matter what I did. The keratin treatment doesn't straighten my hair it relaxes my wave, so it's not noticeable when my hair grows in, which is what I feared. The treatment is so worth it if you have hair that's difficult to manage and to style. My hair is smoother, healthier and easier to style because of the treatments, highly recommend it ! read more

But the ONE thing that I wanted, was NOT IN STOCK. Not like it was super high end or super popular, but the spot on the shelf where it should have been was empty. I tried to console myself by looking around. Guess what? Lots of things were out of stock. Whoever does the ordering here has been asleep at the wheel for a while now, it seems. Two of the sales associates walked right by me several times. No one asked me if I needed help. Considering I came in without any makeup on, it could be argued that help was definitely what I needed. But none was offered in the 15-20 minutes I spent wandering aimlessly around. I walked out empty-handed and irritated that I wasted the time and gas coming here. I'm reviewing the SALON at this particular Ulta. I got my eyebrows waxed and my makeup done by Adrianna. She. Is. Spectacular. This is my first experience in eyebrow waxing, and it got them done right before my wedding, and she took the time to explain what she was doing, and why she was doing it. I went in completely nervous, but Adrianna was able to reassure me that she wasn't going to make me look like a fool. My eyebrows look great, and now I'm a waxing convert. She also took the time to do my makeup. We were able to talk beforehand and she actually listened to what I had to say. She took into consideration the fact that I DON'T usually wear that much makeup, and the fact that it was my wedding day. Adrianna also told me about some products I should try without being pushy or making me feel guilty about not purchasing them. Talking to her was like talking to an old friend. Adrianna did an amazing job on my wedding day makeup...nothing felt heavy and I didn't feel like I belonged in a brothel. I felt like me...only more polished. YAY! Plus she's badass. read more

I came here for color service a few months ago. I'm a veteran of the Redken Color Glaze being that it's the only coloring service I've used since 2008. I know the ins and outs of how to mix it and how it works specifically to make sure I get the desired result even if I am stuck with an inexperienced colorist. Being that I just moved away from where my usual Ulta colorist is located, I decided to try the one at Village Crossing out of convenience. I don't remember his name, but a young African-American man was my colorist. I tried to explain to him that I love being a brunette, sans any warm tones. I overheard his conversation with the more experienced colorist that was also working that night, as he did not know how to mix the color for what I was asking and then her suggesting that he mix the clear glaze into my formula. Nope - that will dilute the color and cause more warm tones but obviously these colorists didn't know that. Not wanting to get a bad dye job, I had the young man call the Ulta where I'd last had my hair dyed and ask for the formula that they had on record for my hair. Phew! I got him to agree to use it. I don't like to step on people's toes and act like I know more about their profession than they do, but in this case, I did. They insisted on washing my hair BEFORE coloring it even though no colorist at any Ulta or any salon PERIOD has ever washed hair beforehand. They told me this was their procedure so I went along with it because I didn't want to be a b*tch. I was also told I had to sign a waiver for the color services, something that was also new to me. I could understand if someone was getting a relaxing treatment or some other kind of chemical treatment and needed to sign a waiver, but this was just a standard color glaze - not even permanent color. Whatever, I signed it. Just wanted to get my hair colored and glossed up and get out of there. When I was seated under the dryer, I noticed that the air was cool. I mentioned this and the young man just waved it off and said that the dryer just needed to "warm up." He walked away and so i turned around to check out the temperature setting and it was on "cool" so I turned it up to hot. Heat is needed to get the color to really penetrate the hair and stick, especially in my case, as I have a few grays. I would expect a colorist to know how to properly use the dryers. After they washed my hair, I left. Never going to return even though this location is more convenient for me than any other. Sorry, but you need to go back to beauty school. And for the record, the color did not hold and started washing out within a week and a half. I will always prefer to apply color to DRY hair. read more

I received a facial from Valerie S. and I must say out of all of the stores I have been to, it is hard pressed to find an employee who actually cares about her job, delivers excellent customer service, cares about the customer. Great work ethic! She did an excellent facial, is well informed about product and skin care and took the time, as long as it took, for whatever questions I had, I did not feel hurried at all.
