I have to be honest with you. This Tacoma location was absolutely terrible. The customer service was really bad. Even the manager didn't know what products they had and no one seemed to know where anything was located. They just told me to check all the end caps. That's where all the Latest # things are. They didn't have what I wanted so I was able to order it and because of that they gave me free delivery to my home so that's great. I did purchase one thing from there, but I got more help from other customers than I did any of the employees or management it's conveniently located outside the Tacoma Mall on that Tacoma Mall campus, but parking is horrendous. Going into an Ulta can be pretty overwhelming but once you learn the ropes as to what you are looking for it gets easier. So once I got passed the newness of it all I proceeded to get the deodorants that sounded good. Every Man Jack was one of my choices as far as brands go. I have to say I am very impressed with that brand and especially like the Cedarwood fragrance that I purchased. It's a unique fragrance and one you don't often come across when shopping around for fragrances. The soaps I am equally impressed by. Very good quality and refreshing with each use. I'd never used the salon at Ulta before. When I walked in, the first cashier I saw directed me to the back of the store. I found the salon area, but no one greeted me. Two staff members were behind the desk, each with customers. One was on the phone with her client, and the other was ringing someone up. I stood there for a couple of minutes without even a head nod or hello. It felt awkward and unwelcoming. After a short wait, the woman at the counter finished her transaction, waved me over, and checked me in. She told me to have a seat and wait for my makeup artist. I waited about ten minutes, feeling uncertain about the experience so far. Then my stylist, Shyla C., called me over, and everything changed. She was probably half my age, and I'll admit I was a little nervous about that at first. Makeup trends and techniques change over the years, and I wasn't sure if someone younger would understand what works best for my features. I shouldn't have worried. She absolutely did. She explained what she was doing, did half my face first, and then guided me through recreating the look on the other side. The result was natural, flattering, and confidence-boosting. I walked in feeling frumpy and walked out feeling great. When I told Shyla I'd like to buy some of the products she used, she walked me through the store and helped me find everything. I really appreciated that because I would have felt lost in all those aisles. At the end of my consultation, the woman who rang me up was personable and kind. She even gave me a card with the name of someone on Instagram she thought I'd like. She was right. I do. I left feeling like I got the fresh face I wanted, found new products I love, and discovered a future resource for even more tips. The front-desk experience needs some improvement, but the overall service and the people who helped me turned it into a very positive visit. The $30 half-hour session was money well spent. Salon time! Naudia did a fantastic job on my all over color. I really appreciated her care, attention to detail, transparency and passion for hair. The pesky dye reside on the skin? She swiped some vaseline on before applying the dye, and made sure to scrub this off during my hair wash. She's got me fam. I also added an Olaplex treatment onto my appointment. My hair feel so soft and healthy, Naudia noticed and complimented my hair as well. Lastly, the way she styled my hair is so nice. She didn't give me stringy unflattering curls, but rather, lovely voluminous curls that will look great tomorrow and the next day. She mentioned doing them this way to aim for a nice beach wave look tomorrow - I love that she's thinking ahead. Highly recommend schedualing with Naudia for an all over color and Olaplex. I like this ultra location. It's easy to access without having to go into the mall. And every time I've gone so far, it's pretty chill. The employees are friendly. My only complaint is the parking. The intersections between the stores are so busy and the spaces can be tight. read more

McKenzie, or however she spells it, was not respecting my request not to open an account using my number. She insisted on it, and when I suggested she simply ring up the items and I would handle it later, she claimed she needed a first name to proceed. This was frustrating, as I believe customers should have their wishes respected and be allowed to complete their purchases without sharing personal information. As to my knowledge you don't have to share personal information to make a purchase.. I have been visiting Ulta for years and have never encountered this issue at this location before. I contacted the store and spoke with the manager, who seemed apologetic but made excuses for the employee's behavior, such as needing information for returns. I am aware of these policies, but when a customer declines to share personal information, there should be no exceptions nor excuses. It is understandable why McKenzie or McKinsey behaves in the manner she does with customers, as she has managers who support her justifications. read more

Zero stars! I booked a signature haircut with a master stylist for a Wednesday evening. I then received a call Wednesday afternoon saying the stylist went home sick. So I was rebooked for Friday evening and an hour before the appointment I was called with a rebook because the stylist went home sick. Rescheduled for Saturday at 1 pm and looking forward to finally getting my haircut. I came 10 mins early was told the stylist was finishing up. Waited for 10 additional minutes after my appointment start time as she's still chopping it up with her client prior to me so, I left. I was livid! I came into the salon to get my hair bleached, stylist was so sweet and really talkative, but I left with my hair darker than when I came in, and half of my ends were fried even though my hair was virgin. I came in the next day and spoke with another stylist, and she had said that it was because of the box dye in my hair, which I didn't have, and that my stylist was worried about the integrity of my hair even though I had nothing in it. My hair is now very damaged only on one side and it is nothing close to what I was looking for. I called the store a few days later and the woman I talked to was quite rude and told me that the only way to fix it was if I rebooked and spent almost double what I spent the first time. I'm very very disappointed with my experience and I am really upset that my hair is now damaged. I do not recommend the salon section of this store. I don't normally like confrontation but this time it's unacceptable, terrible experience and terrible service. The woman who checked me out was sweet but everyone else there was very judgmental and had very snarky looks not only with me, but with many other people there and were very dismissive. Faith H. Is the absolute best! During my recent hair appointment she went above and beyond just dying my hair. Faith also corrected my bad hair cut from another salon (not ulta) and she educated me on how what products I was using were hurting my hair and what products I should use that would also address my concerns. It's fun to have a spree at this store to spoil yourself if you want to pay more. I got a small bag of items for $120 and looked up the items on Amazon when i got home. Amazon had Tarte Shape Tape extra creamy for $10 less. The Venus razor cartridges were also over $10 less on Amazon, and It Superhero mascara was $7 less on Amazon. Some items are advertised as only at Ulta but they're not, like the Shape Tape ultra creamy, which was why i went. There was a long slow line and only one person checking despite the fact there were several employees on the floor. I came here yesterday with my mom, and received the absolute best customer service. There were so many people shopping at the same time, so it was a little hard to get through the aisles and/or see everything I wanted to, as the store is a little small. However, there were a couple of associates that would check in with us while we're shopping to make sure we were finding everything OK, and actually meant it. Because when we took them up on their offer of finding something, they were kind and patient in assisting us. I actually found everything I needed, even the good molecules product that says it's only online. The line was a little long but it went fast. The gentleman at the register, I think was named Eric, what is the best. He checked my order and my mom's order out separately. He chatted with me about the products I got. And when my mom's order was being rung up, she had lots of questions about her store card and coupons, which he answered, all kindly and patiently, and even asked the store manager to come assist, who is also incredibly nice. I just visited this Tacoma Mall location in Tacoma, WA with my sister and 2 year old niece and our shopping experience was horribly marred by the fact that an associate/loss prevention/security personnel took it upon himself to tail us through multiple aisles in the store. He made it obvious by humming which was what first cued me because it sounded close and persistent wherever I was at in the store and also every time i looked up to go to another aisle I made eye contact with him always walking by an aisle away. I feel as though I was racially profiled / targeted as one of few minorities in the store because we didn't observe him following anyone else in the store. He also made my sister and her toddler horribly uncomfortable. This is the first and last time I will visit this location. We spent over $300 to be treated like trash. read more

I'd like to preface this with the fact I have severe anxiety to where even self care is stressful. I finally got the courage to get my hair cut after a few years, after a bad experience with a stylist, and booked a 1hr 15min haircut with Nicole. I was surprisingly excited once we sat down and started talking and my anxiety was calmed by how meticulous she is with her sections as she cuts! My hair is gorgeous and I'm honestly surprised with how well it came out! (I'm verrrry type A) Since I was her last appt of the day she took an extra hour at the end of her shift just to curl my hair. I am always skeptical changing brow artists but Colleen at the Tacoma location proved to be wonderful! She listened to exactly how I like my brows to look and developed a plan going forth to get my shape and fullness where I would like it to be.
