I practically live at Ulta and Sephora. I adore their makeup and hair products. Plus the staff is always helpful and gives you free makeovers and assistance without you having to feel inclined to buy the products like at a department store. I get my color services and hairstyling done by Ali at Ulta. She is amazing. She does a great job and my hair is past shoulder length so it is long. My hair color lasts and lasts. I color my hair every 6-8 months. I do a lot of deep conditioning and wait until the color has really taken to my hair before changing it(basically I wait until you can't see if there is a mix of colors in my hair, and distinguish what my true hair color is based on my roots) Favorite things bought at Ulta: Headbands Fekkai products Living proof products Tarte cosmetics Napoleon Cosmetics OPI nail polish fragrances Studio Gear Mario Badescu The list could go on forever, I have never bought something and been unsatisfied! I came to the store yesterday (5/29/2020) to pick up my online order! They brought me out my order and got the best service when calling the store to let them know I was there! Unfortunately I ordered the wrong item so I went into the store to return it, no big deal it was my mistake! I went into the store and was greeted and told about how the store is operated during this pandemic (COVID19). They were so sweet! I got straight to the line to return my item and was greeted by the most disrespectful, rude woman! I explained to the woman what happened and she was very vague, just staring at me like it wasn't her problem. I didn't have a receipt in my bag and All I got was an item confirmation email because I ordered via the app. She supposedly gave me a refund but I'll wait for the statement to show on my Ulta account. I'm not upset over 7 dollars because I don't want to have to deal with the rudeness! Good enough selection: I know what products I'm looking for and always find them here. They're retail price so don't expect any discounts--even if you bring the online coupons, they don't honor them for urban decay products, only crappy Clinique (yeah sorry no thx lol). Went to the other Ulta in Scottsdale and they told me this was not true!! They said they just didn't wanna do the return for whatever reason. Customer service is not that great. I wasn't greeted instead the employees moved out of my way as I noticeably looked for items. What stood out for me was the facial I received from their esthetician Clarissa. She saw me looking around and asked if I was interested in a mini facial and was super polite and sweet. So this review is for the store itself and the employee interaction I had with Elizabeth and Dimitri. They were both so helpful and friendly in helping me to find some new makeup and finding the right color. As a pale girl it's very hard to find the right foundation. So I was grateful for the help :) In addition, the mascara I ended up getting (despite them telling me it may clump) they were right! Haha. I found it DID clump lol. I love the fact that I can go and exchange it for a different mascara. Make sure you register your number so they can keep all your purchase history (in case you need to exchange something) Overall, this location is the largest I am told and I really like it here. It's a busy store and yes you do need to ask for help at times. However, if one of the two people I mentioned is working... You'll have a great experience. Parking is as expected in a shopping plaza. The stylist should change her occupation to butcher. She used the electric buzzers around my ears, and went way high on left side and gouged out a huge chunk. I was mortified. I am so pissed. I told her what I liked and what I didn't like and she did my hair perfect. I love it! SALON- certainly I can't leave a zero star on Yelp for the awful embarrassing moment I have had here. Please do not put yourself through the same experience I went through. It took me a bit to even write this bc I was mortified of the experience I had here. I finally came clean to my sister who influenced me to write the review, post pictures and contact corporate. It wasn't until after corporate had their salon manager call my sister about the compliant that they did nothing but apologize and offer a discount to come back in!!! This is poor business ethics and I will be reporting them to the BBB for the same reason! I spent so much money to come home and just cry in the bathroom for being so stupid to spend so much money and tip on top of the outrageous price. I included the shmucks name in the pictures on Yelp as well as my receipt for others to beware! Over $200 I came home to this shit storm. I couldn't bare to let my husband see me or still to this day let him know how much I spent! The appointment started out with this guy asking me what I wanted to do- I showed him pictures and I knew I was going to spend some money bc I have long hair. Well half way through of already adding color he didn't have enough and talked me into doing two tone bc of it. Okay I guess you know what your doing? Well the douche was dropping hair dye on the floor and on me. Okay whatever it's a messy job. Ohhh, now he has to charge me for the extra bowl he had to mix and that I went with two colors (mind you I was forced to bc they didn't have enough color)!! Well if you hadn't dropped a bunch all over the floor maybe we would have enough?! After that comes the cut- he did not layer my hair what so ever. It was straight all the way through! It's hard to tell when your hair is wet though. So I shrug it off. I get to the check out and asked the girls well what should I tip- oh it's standard 20%. Okay I don't want to be the asshole and not leave a decent tip.. On my way home, I'm seriously itching like crazy around my ears and my neck! What's going on - I've never had this! I get home and go to the bathroom and realize I have dye under my finger nails from scratching where I was itching so bad. I look in the mirror and was just floored at what I saw!! It looks like I dyed my hair at home with cheap box color!! I immediately locked the door and cried as I scrubbed the dye off of my neck, ears, and forehead. I couldn't bare letting my husband see me or still to this day let him know I spent over $200 for a four year old to dye and cut my hair!! The next week and half I had these dry scaly itchy patches where the dye was left on my skin. This is my story to this shithole of a place they call a salon. Please avoid this place- when they fuck up all they want you to do is go in again for some crappy discount. read more

Soo where do I begin? I started going to Ulta at Metro Center a few years ago. I hated everything about the place other then the hair dressers. It was dirty... actually, filthy. The girls that worked up front were clueless. I never once saw a manger on the floor. The fact that they didn't have a receptionist in the salon drove me nuts. I was always interrupted several times during my service. On the other hand, I have never had so many compliments about my hair- plus Metro Center is super close. I dealt with my frustrations because I love Karen, her hair cuts are reasonable ($35), they could always fit me in last minute, and the location was super convenient. Well, I wasn't too surprised when I found out they were closing. My friends told me I had to follow Karen though matter what- that she gave me the best haircuts I have ever had. I don't want to travel to Arrowhead and Tempe Marketplace is right next to my job so I decided to try them on a lunch break. I call in and book an eyebrow wax and haircut. Wax- 12:45 and cut at 1PM they tell me. I get there a few minutes early and get my eyebrows waxed in the middle of the store at the "brow bar". I hated this experience. If I am paying $20 for a wax, I want to be in a dark room, candles, music... I need more peace in my life. Instead, I am sitting in the middle of a busy store, of course being interrupted every 2 seconds. The girl is helping customers decide which foundation to buy, walking them to the isle and pointing to the eyeliner they are looking for... Are you kidding me? So 20 minutes into this embarrassing scene of a waxing she tells me I should just go and get my hair done and come back afterwards to finish my waxing. I hated my haircut. I told the girl several times what I wanted and she promised me when it was dry it would look that way. No, it didn't and I am on my lunch break. My bangs looked like a kid cut them. I go back to the "brow bar" and she has 6 people standing around her and she is doing someone's brows. She apologizes and says it will be a few more minutes. I buy some makeup, wait on a long line, pay and she is still working on the same girl. I told her again, I am on my lunch break, I have to go. She says bye. I call and complain for the first time in my life. I had to- I was so upset. The manager tells me to come in for free wax and cut. I was pleased with this offer- went in and still am not that happy. So long story short- I miss Karen and I will certainly make the trip to Arrowhead for now on. read more

I'm all for makeup stores and like to look through each and every product to see which would be the best color for me, etc. and since Sunday's are the best time for me to go I just brought my debit card in, that was all! No purse and I was just wearing a tank top and jeans. I love Ulta, I loved the Lancôme salesperson, I spent over $100 on a few items, and when I got to the checkout I was VERY uncomfortable. I was being checked out and made a comment to the cashier about how I disliked my wallet because it's hard to see my cards when all of a sudden the cashier next to her kept saying "what did she say." She must of said it three times. I looked at my cashier and asked if she was talking to me and they just kept giggling and I felt so disrespected. Come to find out, they all wear earpieces and evidently they were in a world of their own talking amongst themselves... forgetting that you should be conversing with the paying customer. I am so tempted to take my items back. I expect to be treated professionally when I am spending my hard earned money on a product. I purchased two Lancôme products, which are not cheap. Class it up. Every time I try and shop at this Ulta location I have problems. Either they are out of stock of the products I need, they don't have any one on the floor to assist me in finding what I'm looking for, or there is a very long line to check out. Today I asked one of the employees for help in finding what I needed. She said she would check in back and was gone for more than 15 minutes before I decided to walk out. I feel like I have given this location more than enough chances. I will never shop there again. I will be shopping at the Sephora inside of JCPenney instead from now on. read more

I went to this location because I was in need of help finding a good lip product. I have never worn any type of make up on my lips before, so I thought that coming here would help to offer me some insight. I was definitely wrong. The representatives were not eager whatsoever to help me out, and when I finally did get help less than half of the lip products were actually available to try on. Definitely going back to Sephora next time. Too bad, because the store is so much closer to me. But it's basically the equivalent of going to target, with nicer products. read more

Though I've been shopping there more lately (3 stores near me in particular) it's been very nice to find products and get familiar with a store without someone coming up asking do you need help... every 5 minutes. Hi, I wanted to let you know that I went into the ULTA Store #185 and received the worst customer service from any place I have ever shopped at. I have invested a lot of time and money into ULTA. The cashier Bailey was rude from the start to end of my transaction, I was literally just purchasing my items and making an online order due to the out of stock item I was looking for in ULTA. As I waited for another associate to place my online order, I witnessed how much nicer Bailey was to the other customer. The fact that I did nothing to deserve her rudeness left me into conclusion that I felt racism. I am a person of color and this horrible customer service reminded me that I am a person of color. I can't express myself enough to explain how upset this made me, what made it worse was that the associate that was helping me with my online order was also really rude, she did not even want to apply a coupon I had for the online order, the worst part was that she externally expressed that she was bothered at my request and said, "Ugh I will have to go all the way back in the beginning and re-do it", I just said its fine if she doesn't apply the coupon because she made me feel guilty. I am not sure if ULTA will act on this but I don't care if I get anything out of it as long as someone else doesn't have to experience of not belonging somewhere. This was my first experience ever coming to Ulta and I was blown away by how nice and helpful the staff were. I'm not a make up expert, I have acne, and I was nervous about coming in. The woman at the Clinique counter was extremely nice about helping find a shade, even if it took more than one try. She also helped me find a skin care regime to help with the acne. I never once felt out of place or not good enough to be in there (a worry I had after a bad Sephora experience). Everyone was welcoming and eager to help. I also did not feel like they were pushing products or just trying to make a sale, rather they were listening to my concerns and helping find affordable options. read more

The store never (and I do mean never) answers their phones, even in the salon. Their store also seemed really disorganized-- perhaps because they are so close to ASU and have a ton of shoppers? In any case, when I go there in person, their staff is really friendly, although busy. I've been going to the Ulta Salon for over a year now and I love the service I get everytime I'm there. I've had so many bad hair experiences in the past that once I found Ulta and met with Aubry--my hair stylist; I now know I could never leave. Aubry is wonderful and really knows what she is doing! She always does exactly what I want and never cuts off more than I want either! Ive done 3 Kera Straight Treatments with her too and sitting in the chair for hours never bothers me. Super rude customer service from here and no one seems to know what they're doing or what's in the store. On one occasion, I was in line and was just watching one of the managers ring up customers as I was waiting and she was just super rude. She didn't even talk to the customers, she basically yelled "what's your phone number" at them when they walked up to her and would roll her eyes if they talked or asked her a question. When it was my turn, she just looked at me and rolled her eyes and told me she'll be right back and never came back. I just thought this attitude was unacceptable, especially from a manager. Another time I was here, I asked an associate if she knew where this palette was (which showed "in stock" at this location online) and she asked me "Oh are you talking about the one sold at Sephora?" in a rude tone. No, I'm asking about the one that's here in the store. I showed her the product that was on the website since she didn't believe me that this product was sold in the store and she told me if the palette isn't found with the other products from the same brand then they don't have it and walked away. I couldn't help but think what terrible and incompetent customer service that was. I had to ask another associate who was nice enough to check in the back so Ulta has at least one good sales associate. I hate that I live down the street from this place and it's my "makeup go to", but I think i'll just start going to Sephora from now on. read more
