I stopped in to get a few replacement items of things I ran out of. Going into Ulta can be a stressful experience because it's usually really packed and just overall crazy. When I walked in I was greeted nicely (not that fast, obnoxious HEYWELCOMETOULTA greeting you sometimes get). Two different workers asked if I needed help. When I went to pay the cashier was so lovely. She did the usual "did you find everything ok?" But as she was ringing me up she asked "how is your day going?" It caught me off guard because I know cashiers are just trying to get through their day and want to get things done quickly so it was nice to be asked. We had a short conversation then I left. I left feeling good because I just had a good interaction with someone. I wish I would have gotten her name but she had blue hair and was working Wednesday (October 9) afternoon. read more

So I went into Ulta tonight and was very upset to see a man and a women walking around in the store with no mask on. I do understand that today the governor lifted restrictions HOWEVER, stores and private businesses are able to keep those restrictions if they want to. I clearly heard the employee ask both people to put on a mask and they walked in laughing saying "yea ok" but never did put one on. They were the only 2 people in the whole store who clearly refused to put on a mask. Businesses take into consideration that we (people who want to be safe) do not want to shop in stores where wearing a mask is not enforced. It is not a hard thing to do, if they refuse they should be asked to leave. I really hope all stores don't let this type of behavior go or continue otherwise I will just start supporting online stores. read more

If I could give them ZERO stars I would. Last year, I had a not so great hair color experience with the location on Power. But against my better judgment I decided to give Ulta another try, this time at the location in Tempe Marketplace. So I scheduled a hair color appointment with Kimberly this past Wednesday for 3pm. Upon arrival I gave her a picture of what I wanted. I already had a blonde balayage that basically needed to be raised. I asked her if it would be done by 7pm because I had a dinner date at 8pm. She assured me it wouldn't take that long. Fast forward to 5pm and she informed me that she had another hair color appointment but it would be fine because she could work on both of us. She kept going back and forth between the two until she finally asked someone else to help her with the other client. She "finished" my hair around 7:30 only to discover that it was not at all what I wanted. Instead of the blonde that I had asked for, my hair was extremely brassy orangey from root to almost the tip. (For some reason my tips were grey). I expressed to Kimberly that I was not satisfied and she, along with another stylist named Kevin, attempted to fix my hair. By the time she was "finished" fixing it, the store was now closed and everyone was gone other than two employees located at the registers waiting to lock the doors. I didn't leave the establishment until 9:37. I not only had to cancel my dinner but I spent over 6 hours at the salon and never received the color that I asked for. My hair looked so awful (I had three different colors throughout my hair) that I desperately went to Walmart and bought box color. My hair looks so much better with box color than what Ulta did to it. I will never step foot in another Ulta Salon again. Worst experience of my life. read more

I went in to pick up an online order. Had to wait in the long line. I get to the register the girls is not very pleasant asks for my ID for the order. The order was found under another name. The manager came over and I told her I have the email as well. They said no we can't use the email. Even though I have it! And it has the barcode to scan! They said I needed to call and get the name corrected. I spend 5-7 minutes getting the name corrected. Then I have to go back and wait in the line again to pick up my order! Then at checkout they were so rude and the girl said oh your the girl that had to get the name changed. Overall, very rude and made me feel discriminated against. Mainly just writing this review because today I got color matched by Dawn and OH MY GOD. She is a BEAST! As soon as i asked her to help me, she picked out three colors from a brand that described exactly what i wanted. When we sat down, she put these colors on me and somehow all of them matched? One was a lighter shade, the other a perfect tone, and the last a little darker for summer. I don't know how this woman did it. She is like a color matching GOD. I got my hair done on 4-20-19 with Vlora in the Ulta Salon and I am absolutely in love!!! She was amazing with detail and made sure I got exactly what I wanted!! I love Ulta, and this location never lets me down. The store is always clean, well- organized, products are usually all in stock. Assistance is there if you need it; the staff will ask if you need help finding anything if you're nearby and browsing, but they aren't breathing down your neck, which I personally prefer. Super glad to have an Ulta nearby because the prices are way more affordable than other beauty supply stores. I feel very fortunate to have had the assistance from many staff members (from multiple locations too) because I have learned some invaluable knowledge regarding techniques and products. read more

Probably one of the more solid experiences I have had at a ULTA store thanks to Katy from Chicago. I just got a new position and needed a decent tattoo coverup. I walked in and was greeted by one of the employees. I started browsing aisles, and Katy asked if I needed any help. Which is rare, because I never get asked that at ULTA, I usually have to ask for help. I told her I was looking for a tattoo coverup and she recommended DermaBlend. She offered to find the perfect shade. The Arizona weather has left me with five different shades of brown skin, but after a few tries we found the perfect match. Katy was patient, attentive, and friendly. I asked her about the Naked Heat palette because at the front display there were no more. She found the last one they had on the shelf! Amazing customer service, thank you Katy! The store itself is clean, and easy to navigate. I haven't gone beauty shopping in so long, so I was taking my time looking at each aisle. I took one star off because I felt as if one particular older employee kept watching and following me. Everywhere I would turn I saw her. I wanted to say something, but I am not one to make a scene. I did want to point it out in my review, because it was obvious, made me feel uncomfortable, and disappointed because I spent $140 dollars on products tonight. This ULTA is a lot bigger than most of the Ultra I have been to. They have this store layout differently than all the other stores. The makeup that I buy here is a lot cheaper here and I always seem to have a coupon when I come here too. One of the things I like about this ULTA is that everyone that works there is always helpful and friendly. Normally at other ULTA's the staff is not very friendly to me and never helpful. I went to Ulta for the first time in about a year to pick up some hair care products. There was so much wrong with this trip that needs to be said...so, here we go! First, when we entered the store, we passed about 6 employees on our way to the hair care products. Not one of them asked us if we needed help. Second, after waiting and looking around, I finally found an employee (they seemed to be avoiding us). She just stared at me until I asked if I could get some help. This is the worst part...I asked her about a type of product, which she gave me a suggestion for, but then started putting her hands in my hair and looking around. She told me I needed a good haircut and shampoo. I told her I got my hair cut a week ago, at which she wrinkled her nose and said, "Really?". I kinda stared at her for a second and nodded. She then proceded to tell me that my haircut is very choppy and frizzy and that she could "fix" me. I was so mortified--all I could do was stare at my sister (who was with me the whole time and equally as shocked). She kept running her hands through my hair, then told me she would get price quotes for me and come back. Anyway, she never came back, but I had already moved on. I got some very helpful advice from a blonde man working with the flat irons. While I was checking out, I asked for the manager to tell her about my experience. The only thing the manager did was look mortified and tell me she would speak with the employee. This is a nice gesture, but I believe someone telling me I look horrible warrants a little more than an, "I'm sorry" when you work in a beauty supply store. Needless to say, Ulta did not make me feel pretty. Of course, this was also the first time I decided to let my hair air-dry because I want to prevent damage, so I was already feeling self-concious. I had been going here for my haircuts since it opened. After 20 - 30 haircuts I found out that I had been overcharged. I noticed the price kept increasing. So I got a haircut from Aubrey about a month ago and I LOVED it. I thought to myself, I've been wanting some subtle ombré/highlights for a long time, why not try Ulta since I liked my haircut so much? Such a mistake. First, the hair stylist (who I will not name... Lucky for her) did not listen to me at all. I have naturally dark ash blonde hair, which I've been trying to dye back to after a few years of playing with my color. She chided me for doing home box dye (sorry we all don't have enough money to constantly maintain our hair with $100 dye jobs). Then she proceeded to color my hair with a dark red looking glaze and do the highlights. I didn't ask for the glaze, but I told her I trusted her since I did see the ashy green in my hair. When my hair came out, it was DARK BROWN on top with platinum blonde highlights. Are you kidding me? Subtle does not equal high color contrast. She told me it would wash out to a lighter color, but it didn't and I was not about to go to work with skunk hair. I also paid $100 for this, and was pissed they used the stupid Redken color glaze on my hair that I probably didn't need. So this morning I used Color Oops to get the color out. And my beautiful hair is straw. Cool! So I can say from experience, Aubrey listens to you and gives you what you want, whereas one other employee that I know of will not listen to you. I also find that getting assistance in this location can be tricky, again because of the crowd. A lot of the products here sell out fast.I was looking for a specific shade of revlon lipcolor which was out of stock here but i found it at another Ulta Location. I definitely like Ulta they have an interesting mix of affordable and good brands like NYX,Revlon,Loreal,Urban Decay,Maybelline etc. They also have so many offers and discounts going on.I would encourage signing up for their rewards program.They sometimes give out free samples from their Ulta collection which is great. This has been an interesting week. My Yelp, Facebook and Twitter friends who like to judge me, have had a field day with my reviews and checkins of nail salons and waxing salons. Assholes. Can't they appreciate a perfect Dave? ANYWAY....I stopped by ULTA this morning because it was time to pick up some additional grooming products. As soon as I walked into the doors, a semi-attractive girl approached me and asked if I needed help. I asked where all the men's grooming supplies were. I asked because, in Vegas, ULTA has a nice big selection of men's supplies like pre-shave oils, after shave balms, ingrown hair treatments, etc. Being a clean shaven man, I like to invest some dough in good stuff. The girl proceeds to take me to the back section of the store where they have Gillette and BIC products. Are you kidding me? If I wanted this crap, I would've gone down to Walmart or Target (Target is closed on Easter). I gave the girl a fake "Thank You" and let her get the hell away from me. I wandered around the store by myself, pretending I knew what I was doing. I made sure to avoid all the hair products, because as a bald man, that would be incredibly creepy. Then, I got to the fragrance section.....and like a water fountain in the desert, I found my oasis. The REAL men's grooming section full of products by Clinique, Anthony for Men, Jack Black, etc. At this point, I knew what I was doing and didn't need the help of some chick. My advice to ULTA? Train your staff on the very few men's products you have. Just because you are a woman-friendly store, doesn't mean that men are non-existent. Haters. I had to buy additional product, but instead of patronizing this location, I chose to take my business to the Indian Bend location. I'm cool like that. read more

I have been in this store maybe half a dozen times before, but my visit yesterday was by far the best and most memorable trip!!! Tasha must have sensed my state of utter confusion because she calmly listened to me fumble through an explanation of what I was looking for. Tasha spent a good chunk of time navigating me through the different brands, pointing out the pros and cons and making PERFECT suggestions! I left with face & eye cream, daily cleanser, the perfect microdermabrasion wash, a toner to try, the perfect foundation AND some samples to try! I am so pleased with the improvement to my skin after just one AM/PM application! Tasha treated me like my sister does, made me feel calm and comfortable even when I turned down a product. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the foundation Tasha helped me with! It is EXACTLY what I need, and it's a brand I would not have chosen on my own. Y'all out in AZ don't know how good you have it when it comes to Ulta. My goodness. Ulta locations in so-cal have a reputation for being filled with super snooty sales girls who could care less about helping you. Even one of the employees in this location said he'd heard that about the stores here in CA! It's all TRUE. There are a couple of sweetie pies at the Tustin, CA location but I won't go to the Newport Beach or Huntington Beach locations again because the girls are so. rude! I was so pleasantly surprised by the customer service in this location that I actually told the girl at the cash register about how much better it was. Her name is Kristi by the way and she's very nice. :) I was asked several times if I needed help finding anything, or had any questions. Now, I'm kind of a beauty expert so I don't generally have questions other than "where can I find X?" but I always appreciate a staff that is on the ball! And I overheard a conversation with one staffer who was being really helpful to another customer, so I'm sure if I did have questions they would have tried their best to help. Oh, and a huge pet peeve of mine when I walk into a store is to see the staff just hanging around chit chatting or primping or whatever. I did not see that here. I went to Ulta today to take advantage of the BYGO 50% off deal on NYX. I chose 6 items. After I had paid, the cashier walked away and I looked at my receipt. I was charged for 7 items. Looking closer to the receipt I noticed I was charged twice for one item. I went to the next open cashier & explained the situation. She was only willing to give me $1 & some change back for an item that was over $6. She kept saying because it was BYGO half off, that's all I would receive. The math didn't add up. I bought 6 items at BYGO and was charged full price for a 7th item that I didn't receive. She was insistent on the return only being a dollar something. I said I would just go and get the second eyeliner that I was charged for, instead of getting a dollar back. As soon as I got back to the register with the second eyeliner she started saying she would need a manager. It seemed odd because I was now getting everything I was initially charged for, right? The manager (Briana?) was told the situation by the blonde pregnant cashier. She said she would have to call security to check the tapes to make sure this was all true. Are you freaking kidding me?!? I was going to have to wait there until security reviewed the tapes so I could walk out of the store with exactly what I paid for, that YOUR employee had INCORRECTLY charged me for?! I was absolutely appalled. I voiced my frustration & she changed her mind about having security review the tapes. She then told me that I was owed $6.08 back, instead of the $1.25 the other cashier was demanding that I was to get back. Interesting... ULTA, please train your employees to properly use a cash register, to not overcharge your customers, to learn how to execute a proper refund & PLEASE train your management team to not make your customers feel like criminals when it's THEIR team members that are in the wrong. read more

I like this location because they Sale Clinique items. It is way more convenient then going to a department store plus I get points for my purchases. They do have a Clinique sales associate so if you have any questions you are able to still get help. Sometime they only have one person checking people out so the line can get long. I also buy my hair products here and I enjoy the deals that they offer. The Brow Bar is a hit or miss. I never see the same person working there so it's hard to find someone you actually like. read more

Been here a few times since it is the closest Ulta to me, but not after this incident I definitely will be shopping at Sephora or driving farther to a different location. Sandy, the salon manager and I talked about my complaint regarding KeraStraight Smoothing treatment I had in the salon. After our discussion, she straightened my hair with a straightening flat iron and layered my hair a little bit. The services were free in exchange for this review. However, Sandy was distracted straightening my hair. She had to do her other managerial duties and had no hair stylist to take over her job to straighten my hair (She come and go). It took a while to straighten my hair. Rating for Sandy: 4 out of 5 Feedback: Sandy's advice on managing my wavy hair works. I am happy with her advice. Invest in straightening flat iron and in deep conditioner. At home, you can do deep conditioning for 15 minutes once a week. For those who have wavy, curly and dry hair, wash your hair every 3-4 days. Rating for KeraStraight Smoothing Treatment: 1 out 5 Feedback: KeraStraight is misleading. It does not straighten wavy and curly hair. The brand should be KeraSmooth, not KeraStraight. KeraStraight treatment is just another expensive and ineffective treatment for wavy and curly hair. Your natural wavy and curly hair comes back after washing your hair with the treatment. Every time I get my hair done I hate the way they style it, but he styled it to perfection! I am so happy with my color!! He made suggestions, used products that were great for my very fine hair. Kelly has been doing my brows since 2017. I usually go to the north Phoenix Ulta on Tatum near PV Mall. Kelly recently moved down to the Tempe marketplace store and I was hesitant about driving 50 miles round-trip to still go and see her. I was actually two weeks past my due appointment but decided what the heck I'll take a drive on a Sunday morning. I am super glad that I did because my brows came out wonderful as usual. So if you are hesitant or questioning your brow person you should check out Kelly. Don't be afraid she listens and she's very cautious about lifting. I had absolutely NO idea that ULTA offered beauty services?! I guess I've been living under a rock as I'm dumbfounded, but now am well aware/educated. My work friend and I went here last week bc I needed her help with my eyebrows not being on-point, and hers are on-fleek daily. I'm OCD and tend to over-pluck them, so aside from the behavioral issue, Julia helped me greatly with educating me on pencilling in my brows with the right tools/color. It was long overdue. Work GF intervened along w/Julia for about 10-15 minutes. I also bought templates/stencils for different brow arches. The pencil/brush tool from Benefit was about $25 but works great. My friend bought templates and some organic moisturizer for face. We also spritzed on some free perfume to smell pretty for the office upon return from lunch. Mine = Dior Addict. Hers = Chanel Chance. I'm hoping they have Tom Ford's Black Orchid perfume as I'm completely infatuated and will throw down some paper for that scent. Next time perhaps. Next trip? We will be getting the $10 facial treatment and bringing along more coworkers for even more fun! read more

This places reminds me of a Sephora but less makeup and more hair products. But really they have everything/every brand from face stuff, to nails stuff to even a salon in the back. You can spend an hour just looking at different products. There are people who are willing to help you find what you need but aren't pushy and will leave you if you look self-sufficient.
