I've been to a good share of yogurt places and this place is pretty dang good. The Yogurt flavours change fairly often and hit all the usual bases (peanut butter, cake batter, cookies n cream). I think the area where this location earns 4 stars is the toppings. While it has the usual fruit, it has a variety of cereals as well. Cocoa krispies are the best! And my favourite topping to date, Chocolate covered sunflower seeds! Try it out if you're in the area, the hours are great! read more

I was really not impressed with this place. The snotty high school students working there weren't very nice. They would NOT give me a glass of water! Whats up with that! The frozen yogurt was super sweet and didn't taste that great. The amount of toppings was a little overwhelming and led me to getting way too much food. Gee, I wonder why they weigh it by the ounce. I spent $15 for me and a friend to get ice cream. I'd rather get a few pints of Ben n Jerry's any day. Don't forget the ORIGINAL and BEST frozen yogurt in town, Redwood Yogurt. Their vanilla frozen yogurt is vegan and tastes amazing. The other flavors change daily, even mango, tiramisu, etc. They aren't a corporate new bling bling place with snotty high school students working there. Its a nice, mellow, happy place with a piano, reading material, and often a little string jam session. I love that place. Try it out. read more

I decided last week after hearing all my friends swear by this place to go check it out myself. I'm used to these places in the bay area so it was a nice treat to see one in Arcata. I could have really done some serious damage here when I was going to HSU but luckily now that my head isn't in the clouds anymore and I can resist getting too crazy with the toppings. My only complaint is that they don't offer any loyalty cards, like buy 9 yogurts get the 10th free. I love coming here with my daughter a8nd have even come by myself a few times. I spend so much money here it would be awesome to get a little something back. Plus it gives customers a reason to keep coming back! I like this establishment and was pleased when they opened. It is family/ locally owned. Lots of good flavor selections including non-dairy and sugar-free. Lots of toppings including fresh fruit (love the berry selection). Great location on the plaza. And clean! Not as healthy as homemade frozen yogurt, but still delicious! read more

When it comes to restaurants, I believe that there are three primary factors that should be considered: (1) Quality, quantity, and flavored compared to expectations, (2) Service, restaurant cleanliness, and group size appropriate server interaction, and finally (3) atmosphere, location, and experience. This is your typical modern Self-serve Yogurt shop; however, it's locally owned by the husband and wife duo that own Spotlight Video and Tanning. PROS Constantly changing flavors with something special for the season. There's always at least one non-dairy option that isn't too bad. For being right on the plaza they keep this place very clean. It's only been open a few years now, but everything looks mostly new. CONS Other than the owners and employees there isn't anything about it that has a bit of local Humboldt Flair... though if you're a local it's kind of nice because it's like stepping into one of the corporate franchises you find in big cities. read more

This is a very well-stocked yogurt bar that would not be out of place in the bay area, so I can see how it is kind of out of place in Arcata. I really enjoyed all the varieties available here and the broad array of toppings, but it definitely had more of a corporate/sterile vibe than any kind of natural feel. In addition to candy and fruit, they had hot fudge and different kinds of syrup available, as well as waffle cups and assorted drinks for sale. One really great feature that I haven't seen in other yogurt places is that they have real bowls and spoons for dine-in, rather than just disposable. Great idea! read more

YUM! Great place with a huge selection of toppings. Pricing is by the ounce. Gets a bit crowded from time to time, but the wait is worth it. They have great flavors and a totally random selection of toppings from fruit pebbles to monster-sized fresh blueberries. So many toppings! If you like frozen yogurt then this is your spot. This place is every kid's dream with toppings they can only imagine while they dream of sugar plums and candy coated streets. I am not a yogurt head like many people I know, but I can appreciate what they have going on. However if your child does dream of sugar plums and wants them on their yogurt they may be let down, as that is one of the only toppings they don't have. read more

This place is FUN! I felt like a little kid the first time I came here. The toppings are basically sugar rush central and the staff is goofy (tie-dye uniforms?) I feel bad since this place is basically driving redwood yogurt out of business,,, but they are open late and are on the plaza. Ultimate Yogurt is an awesome new addition to the Arcata Plaza, I love strolling in anytime I'm nearby and grabbing a cup. It is very affordable, quick, easy, and tasty...what more do you need from a self-serve frozen yogurt shop? Oh right, TOPPINGS! and they have plenty of good toppings including fresh fruit and, my favorite, crushed butterfingers. The flavor selection is adequate, nothing mindblowing but I like keeping my frozen yogurt simple so it works for me. The staff is usually friendly and helpful, though I've had to wait a few times for someone to ring me up because they were in the back. Knocking off one star because there's been a couple times when the dispensers were a little messy and needed a cleandown. But the bottom line is anytime I get the urge for some frozen yogurt, this place is what I think of first. read more

This place has something for everyone. Whether you prefer fruit or chocolate desert you will be in luck. The fruit is amazingly fresh no matter what time of year I have stopped by. They are also constantly mixing up the flavors available which keeps things interesting. My one complaint is that sometimes they leave the door hanging open and it can be cold inside. The yogurt is decent. The freshness of the toppings is questionable. Last time I went, the hot fudge container (self serve) was only 1/4 full and had solidified to the point I could barely plop a small amount on my yogurt. Im writing this in hopes to contact the own of the arcata ultimate yogurt location. Know usually it is a pleasant experience we are first time parents of a 1 year old and its a fun family outing for us to do and we always have atleast one day put of the week set aside just for that very reason between work and our son sometimes its hard to find the time or have the energy to enjoy it doing that is how we stay a stong and loving family and in this world sometimes its hard to do and thats what makes it so special. When we went in today at 4:15 the boy that was working barley greated us because he was busy on his phone so i waited for a minute or so just in case it was an important text for work or family. I had to ask for help from him and when he came to help he rushed to hand me 3 little sample cups and ran back to his phone. When we were on are way to pay i saw that there was animal cookies so i got 4 of them for my little one but i didnt want them to get soggy sitting in the frozen yogurt so i visably had them in my hand to put onto a napking to put them on the scale and pay for them but a couple more customers cane in and wanted a shake or something i didnt have a problem waiting they were very nice people and they added to the witness list of people that got to see how i was treated by the employee that said he was the main boss the head hontcho. So finally when he was good and ready to finally help me to pay for my things he gave me a nasty si and started scolding me in front of everyone that i wasnt able to do that i asked what he ment and he replied by accusing me of trying to steal the 4 little animal crackers that i had on a napkin and fully visible for all to see i explained in detail that i had no intention of such a thing. If i did i would of just given them to my son and hid them i wouldnt of had them on a napkin holding them out in front of me with my yogurt. But apparently that wasn't good enough for him he continued to insult and humiliate me and kept repeating that its was his place and he was the boss of the establishment. I politely asked him to please stop talkinf to me like that that this conversation was unpleasant and i did not want it to continue i just wanted to pay and leave he insisted on having the last word and continued his disgusting and repulsive behavior my whole way out of the building. I told him he was rude and has no business working in a family establishment. Honestly i wish i would if just put everything down on the counter and walked away that was by far the worst experience i have ever encountered anywhere. read more

They have some fun toppings and a nice atmosphere and it's nearness to the plaza is a plus, but the yogurt itself is subpar. Much better is Redwood Yogurt, just 7 blocks north on G street, a delicious authentic organic yogurt shop which has been in arcata for many years. read more

I have very mixed opinions on Ultimate Yogurt and as a result, I am an occasional customer but out of Arcata's three ice cream/yogurt shops, it is the one I frequent the least. I would have to say its quality is OKAY, but does not compare to the scoop or redwood yogurt. It is the most "chemically" tasting ice cream place in town. However, it does boast frequent changes in their weekly flavor lineup and some of them are quite interesting. If you want a diverse set of flavors and toppings, then ultimate yogurt is the place to go. Though if you fancy something on the simple side I would head to the scoop or to redwood yogurt instead. While I dont consider ultimate yogurt to be unclean, I do have some sanitary concerns with the nature of self-service, especially since it is frequented by grimy little kids on a daily basis. It can expensive but is reasonable if you are smart and only choose the lightweight toppings as price is determined by weight. read more

Oh - it was so delicious! They have a bunch of yummy flavors to choose from - mint, red velvet cake, mango, blackberry, strawberry, others that I can't remember now. And so many kinds of toppings to pick from - it was quite a dilemma, really! Oh - and did I mention the fresh fruit? Strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, banana! If you like toppings - you'll LOVE this place! My one complaint - only one kind of non-dairy yogurt. I gave in and had a mix of dairy and non-dairy. This establishment has become a favorite of mine over the last 6 months or so, since i moved to the area. Its friendly, fun, and professional,.. with plenty of good incentives( like their text club) for both new and regular customers. They have 8 flavors at any given time ( unless a flavor change is happening, which, is no fault of their own), and both a wall devoted to dry toppings, and a cold bar fully stocked with fresh fruits, cookie dough, brownie, and cheesecake bites, as well as over a dozen different sauces.... Oh! and hot camel and hot fudge ( although the pumps are awfully tough to operate for the young and elderly). I will say that while the Arcata location is smaller, and inturn can seem more busy during the after-school hours of fall-spring, the staff is Constantly out in the lobby wiping down tables and chairs, cleaning the machine dispensers, and providing samples, all while greeting customers and inquiring as to the quality of their experience. If ever ive had to wait more than a minute or two to pay, its only because the 1 employee is busy cutting more fresh mango, making a delicious smoothie/shake, or unlocking the bathrooms. The price can be what you want, if you ( and your children ) practice moderation.. Though, since everything is priced by weight, it can also get spendy quickly if one piles on 10oz of reeses cups and peanut butter sauce and goes back for a mound of strawberries... and so on. They have a Nutritional binder up front by the register with all the info on any froyo they carry, and although most of the time the staff is able to answer ingredient related questions, if they cant, ive seen them promptly refer to the book and help with customers dietary preferences. I have been to their other, Eureka location a few times as well, and while the quality of the product is the same, the overall environment isnt quite as appealing. The store is bigger than Arcata's, and thusly, i suppose, harder to keep clean... Perhaps im conditioned to the cleanliness of Arcata's plaza location, but on more than one occasion i sat down to sticky table tops in Eureka, all the while multiple staff just seemed to ho-hum around, behind the counter, playing on their phones, and chatting with one another. Nothing that would make me leave, or not stop by when im in that part of town, but something that could be improved upon. They do have Crepes in Eureka though, which the Arcata locale does not. To summarize... reasons i love Ultimate Yogurt(* arcata specifically) - Good selection of delicious flavors and toppings - Very pleasant, polite, and professional staff - Good hours, Clean store, great location Things that could be improved upon - Some sort of loyalty card would be awesome - More than 1 Non-Dairy Option at a time perhaps - A mini-display freezer like they have in Eureka for their FroYo-To-Go options read more
