    Chicken tori

The 100000% lives up to the hype. One of best ramens I've eaten in the PNW. I love ramen danbo in Seattle and I'd say my ramen at this place was better. I got the chicken tori. So much flavor. So many different toppings. Pickled ginger adding to the aromatics and overall flavor profile. Phenomenal. They now have patio seating too!

The shoyu ramen was a solid choice, pretty flavorful and even a bit creamy (which is a little different than the shoyu I'm used to); and the pork in it was so tasty! I went back and tried the tonkatsu ramen as well; I personally preferred the shoyu, but both were delicious options! The crispy gyoza pork dumplings (and the sauce that came with it) were good, too. We sat outside and enjoyed the cute, colorful village it's located in. The staff was super sweet too, enjoyed my experience here!

Until I visit Japan, I am convinced this is the most authentic, delicious ramen I have ever tasted. The place is small and quaint but it makes me feel like I am in Japan from what I have seen in videos. I have tried both the tonkotsu and spicy miso and love the flavor of each one. I always add the extra meat to have a bigger portion and fuller belly. I really enjoy the broth, the toppings, the meat, and the sauces and almost took a picture of my empty bowl I slurped down. I am not a huge gyoza fan ever but these pork ones with the sauce were delicious. Anytime we have come in here the people are always friendly and happy to serve us. Love love this place!

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place sooner. I've been here a couple times now and it's always a great experience! Yes, the ramen is on the pricier side (around $23 a bowl), but they really deliver on quality and portion size. The toppings are generous, they add the perfect amount of noodles, and the pork is absolutely incredible! so tender and flavorful. Honestly, the quality of the pork here puts chain ramen spots to shame. I had the spicy miso this time, and I'd give it an 8.5/10. The broth had a strong ginger kick a bit too strong for my taste, especially since it wasn't mentioned on the menu. It was intense enough to sting my nose a bit. That said, it was still a delicious bowl overall and absolutely worth the long drive and ferry ride to get here. Bonus points for the easy parking (huge lot in the back with tons of space) and outdoor seating. Can't wait to come back again!

If you're in Coupeville you need to find the red brick Road that leads to this outstanding ramen place in Langley Village. Parking is available in lots here and there behind as well as on the street. It has really personable service, and what looks to be a tiny kitchen but it cooks with convection very efficiently, Japanese style. There are Japanese craft beers, sake (hot and cold) and other drinks for sale, alongside imported snacks (see photos) that reminded me of childhood visits to the Japanese grocery in Toronto. "IRRASHAIMASE!" is the first thing they say when you walk in, so you feel welcomed and seen. And the first thing down on your table will be a bowl of edamame, complements of the house. The hospitality is wonderful. It's $20 for any bowl of Ramen on the menu. There are three different kinds of noodles including vegan, that are available with any Ramen bowl. (It was actually a close vegan friend who found the place during one of our visits to Whidbey Island and it's become a must come every time.) On a cold and rainy day it hits the spot like nothing else can. The broth is boiled for hours so the richness is undeniable. The flavor is incredible and the noodles are done perfectly. Brought a friend who had not had Ramen in a Ramen house before so he opted for the classic Tonkosu with pork slices and black garlic oil in bone broth, half an egg, spinach, naruto, etc. All the fixings and the trimmings that make a fantastic bowl of Ramen. I went with the spicy miso because I like a good kick and I think my friend preferred it as well. One of the impressive things to see on the menu was natto a very traditional fermented bean dish that old-school Japanese elders love. It's an acquired taste. Don't be surprised if you leave here a fan. $20 for the ramen, $10-$15 for drinks and snacks.

SO GOOD! Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this goodness in a bowl! Ultra House is the best therapy on Whidbey Island!

This place was okay... I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if you're in the area and need for a ramen fix, it'll suffice. I must add I am very picky with ramen so please take that into consideration here... I haven't found anything that I like so far in WA. I definitely think it's an okay ramen but more so a place of convenience to curb a craving since this area is pretty far from anything else. The tonkotsu traditionally has white round noodles, not the curvy yellow noodles and that's a pet peeve for me. I am Japanese and have been to Japan about 10 times so this is why I'm so picky about this. The ramen was quite expensive $20 per. I was surprised they had a natto bowl... so i ordered that I believe it was $14... also pretty expensive. The service was quite slow but they were pretty busy. It is quite a small restaurant so expect to wait if you're visiting during peak hours. I was very impressed with their beer selection.. they were all japanese imports... $12/12oz. the Pilsner was delicious!

Order the Spicy miso and can say... It wasn't spicy at all! Having said that the broth had a lot of depth and every sans the slightly undercooked noodles was good. Had the ramen been spicy and the noodles cooked it would have been a solid four stars. I enjoyed the flecks of ginger I could occasionally distinguish and I'm not a ginger fan. Service was good and prompt. I'll definitely give it another go since it is the only actual ramen worth a stop outside of the mainland!

Sun Noodle Spicy Miso Ramen Kit
    Oleksandr S.

I came here after reading so many positive reviews, expecting a proper bowl of ramen crafted with care and skill. Instead, what I got was a $20 insult to authentic ramen chefs everywhere. They're charging premium prices for what is essentially a Sun Noodle Ramen Kit - the kind you can buy at a grocery store. The toppings? Unseasoned boiled egg, preserved menma, ginger, and corn that lacked any depth or freshness. No effort, no care, no soul. It's a slap in the face to the craftsmanship and dedication that real ramen chefs put into their work. If you're going to charge $20 for a bowl, it better be made with fresh noodles, a broth simmered for hours, and thoughtful, well-seasoned toppings. This place clearly doesn't understand what ramen is supposed to be. Skip it and find a restaurant that respects the art of ramen. Don't be fooled by the hype.

    Tori Chicken Ramen

We originally wanted to check out another place but with the kids in tow and a two hour wait time we passed on our first spot and found this place. The fates wanted us to find this spot it seems because it was absolutely delicious. Comfortable and friendly setting with great accommodations for small kids-- their menu comes with some seaweed chips and we were offered some capri suns. Yes, we'll take whatever we can get to tame our small and hungry kiddos and they loved it. Also, they had a small little toy area it seemed which we grabbed a couple of things for our kids to play with as well. We ordered the potstickers, tori chicken ramen, pork rice bowl, kids chicken ramen and last the kids chicken rice bowl. Everything was absolutely delicious, the ramen was like a warm hug for the soul after lots of traveling with small kids and being six months pregnant. The staff were attentive and helpful and the atmosphere of the place was cozy and calm. Extremely happy with our experience and if we return to the island again someday this will be a staple for us after a long trip.

    Pork Gyoza

Was visiting Langley during July 4th weekend, and Ultra House looked like a pretty enticing place to go enjoy some delicious ramen for dinner. We decided to swing by on a Sunday around 7pm to try and get seating. There was a 20 minute wait time for a walk in, and we were able to get seats after the waiting period. The restaurant itself is located in a plaza where there are several other shops in close proximity. There is plenty of parking in the downtown Langley area in the back of the restaurant and in the town center. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and cozy! There were seats set up outside the restaurant, bar seating, high chair, and normal table seating. Plenty of Japanese themed decorations and a open view to the kitchen for you to see your food getting prepared. Though we came a holiday time where the restaurant wasn't expecting so many people, so we were unfortunately unable to try the meat protein options that Ultra House has to offer. But the owner was very accommodating and offered us a pork gyoza on the house since we were unable to try the original options we were looking for - which was really nice of them! The pork gyoza had a crispy bottom and a juicy filling. One thing that I found interesting was the small line of yuzu paste beneath the sauce - it had a deep citrus flavor that kinda tasted like pickles + yuzu + the effect of wasabi on your sinuses, I was a fan! I got the Spicy Miso with Vegan toppings which included fried tofu, mushrooms, spinach, corn, bamboo, and some other veggie options. The broth was creamy and had nice miso flavor, and also held onto the noodles which had good chew. The bowl of ramen was pretty hearty and did definitely leave me content. In the end, we spent about $42 for two bowls of ramen, which is an alright price given the quantity and quality of the food received. The service was pretty good and accommodating despite the fact that given we were not able to receive the original flavors of ramen we wanted. I would definitely like to revisit in the future to try the other flavors of ramen that Ultra House has to offer! (4.5 stars)

    Gyoza
    Victoria E.

We visited Ultra House in the evening for dinner, and only had to wait about 10 minutes for indoor seating. They have a couple high top tables with backless metal stools, a larger community type table with regular chairs and some small outdoor tables. The staff was friendly, and service was prompt. The menu is slightly limited compared to other Ramen places I've tried, so if someone in your party isn't a ramen fan it will be hard for them to find something. We ordered the gyoza, spicy miso ramen (without mushrooms and green onion), and 2 Tonkatsu Ramen (one with fried tofu added). The gyozas were tasty, although I found a piece of what appeared to be bone in mine. It was unpleasant to bite into. My friend seemed to enjoy the spicy miso- it was very spicy. My tonkatsu was the one with tofu added, and my first bite was into that tofu...which was still ice cold. It was frozen in the middle. It tasted fine after I pushed it into the hot soup and it defrosted. The pork in the ramen was very moist and delicious, as was the soft boiled egg. I found the mushrooms to be very chewy. My broth was really salty- I could only eat half my bowl before it started to hurt my tongue/mouth. The other tonkatsu bowl wasn't as salty. Over all I probably won't be back.

Botan Ramen n' Bar was a very nice Ramen experience for this novice in Ramen…read more In walking in, you're greeted by a stunning cherry blossom tree and flowers filling the interior. Adding to the outdoor ambiance inside, we were seated in a 'shaded porch' area, which still had plenty of room (such partitioning could reduce interior space). We were promptly greeted by the staff, who interestingly that day were not of Asian descent as typically found in Far East themed restaurants: more like your average Seattleite college-age server. I like that they bucked the stereotypes. As a ramen newbie, I was overwhelmed by the expert-level menu, the main reason I didn't give 5 stars. The menu starts with alcohol, leading me to look around for the food menu. There it is, tucked after several pages of booze and virgin drinks. The food section starts with the 'Botan Deluxe' (don't recall the actual name used) and lists the components using words that I as a newbie have either never seen before or maybe have seen but not understood, so my anxiety level spiked because I don't like being shamed into just ordering without understanding. Fortunately the waitress worked through this with me after my telling her my issue. The following page had a 'build your own ramen' blocked off into sections: noodles, broth, extras. With the extras, you get like 3 or 4 included (green onions, egg. garlic-something, seaweed, etc.) and more cost $1 extra (not printed on menu). I did the udon noodles, bone broth (insert fancy name but not with the fancy-name soy sauce added), and one extra ingredient over the included number. When asked 'tell me more about the green noodle?', the relatively new employee was unable to immediately describe, but went back and learned it was spinach blended. We also ordered a (fancy name) cucumber salad starter: yummy, sizable and recommended. The orders arrived promptly, with just a small break after the starter; the egg I ordered was replaced by bean sprouts: the served quickly and gracefully delivered the missing egg. Each ordered ingredient was placed as an individual island: it's up to the customer to blend or not (I enjoyed not mixing so to experience each flavor). The udon noodle was exactly as I had imagined and desired. My wife said she enjoyed her selection as well, although didn't pick out any unique flavor to the green noodle. The bill was right-priced if not even on the lower side for the neighborhood. We'll be back again to try more of the offerings now that we have a little bit of familiarity with the exotic descriptions.
