Love Ultreia! Went here with a group of co-workers so we were able to sample many dishes, perfect way to dine at a tapas style place. Had stuffed dates, crispy eggplant, a fantastic mushroom dish, and a marinated-fermented carrot dish. All so unusual and delicious! Then had the chorizo soup, and the Colorado lamb sandwich. Others also had the soup and sandwich combo with the Piri Piri spicy chicken sandwich and a marinated tuna sandwich. Definitely need to return for dinner and try the rest of the menu. Also great decor, a lovely outdoor seating area and excellent service. It reminded me a bit of Tinto, Jose Garces's place in Philly. read more

Delicious food and great atmosphere, with either indoor or outdoor seating. We ordered a couple of different dishes (croquetetas, huevos Diablo, spices ribs, plank mushrooms, mussels, and seared octopus). Unfortunately, they were out of crab for the huevos Diablo, so they substituted it with yellow tail, luckily I love yellow tail, so it was still great. Everything else was full of flavor, so honestly you can't go wrong with any dish that you order, the only downfall is that it's pricey & the portions are quite small. Can I just say how much I LOVE their happy hour?! Seriously, their delish treats and drinks are all I can think about. The season g&t - summer and fall - have been amazing. And the purple hue is amazing. The pan con tomate was great snack while sipping down my HH g&t but the shishitos...those shishitos. I've never been to Spain (which it feels like that's a must if you want to feel remotely qualified to give this place a review ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) but who cares if you have ...good food is good food, good drinks are good drinks. Walked into this gorgeous establishment from the Union Station and was floored with the decor and classiness of everything! We (the food tour group I was with) walked in and were seated into the most comfortable seating I have experienced at a restaurant. It was really really beautiful in there. But enough about the looks of the place. The food too was just as good as the vibes the place gave off. We got the ciabatta bread with tomato and the street style churros with chocolate sauce for dipping. Both dishes of which were absolutely delicious. I would more than recommend trying them and whatever else they have on that menu of theirs. I feel like everyone is trying to qualify themselves in these reviews of Ultreia. So I also lived in Spain (Salamanca) - but who really cares because even if this isn't a replica of "authentic" Spanish tapas, it is still fabulous. BTW - there is a BLEND (not exact) of Spanish, Portuguese, and American influences. So if you go in with the expectations that it's a modern take on tapas, you will not be disappointed that this doesn't take you back to Spain while sitting outside with a glass of sangria and tapas in the Plaza de Mayor. Things to Do: 1) Jamon, Jamon, Jamon 2) Wasn't a fan of the Trout 3) Gambas was meh 4) Lots of good cheeses 5) Stick with them meats (lean Jamon, Chorizo, Steak) Personally I had great service and it's in a neat spot to hangout and people watch. And the smoke vent issue - no idea if it is resolved but I guess it also didn't bother me. My husband had been anxiously awaiting Ultreia's opening. So when we had a reason to celebrate one Friday afternoon, we suggested it to our friends. Four of us had a wonderful late afternoon of pintxos and drinks. We had olives, stuffed dates, chorizo, patatas bravas, and beef ribs so delicious we ordered another round. Those drinking cocktails loved their gin drinks. I had one of the most delicious glasses of wine I've ever tasted. It's a small place, so don't bring a crowd and plan ahead if you can. But it's cute and cozy, with plush chairs and lots of outdoor seating which will be great come spring. read more

Underwhelming- nothing to ride home about. This restaurant was recommended by a third party website for "best lunch". We love tapas and decided to try it. We didn't realize all of the seafood was canned seafood (not something we've ever encountered before). We later realized it does say "tinned" on the menu and for $50 we decided to try it. Unfortunately it was simply not good. Had we realized we would have eaten elsewhere (again personal preference). The other apps were just ok as well. My friend and I went here last night before the MJ musical. It was our first time dining here. Our server was super knowledgeable about the food and cocktails. I am normally not a gin drinker, but the server talked me into sampling a citrus gin. I ended up ordering the Sanguina cocktail made with the citrus gin and it was AMAZING! All of the food was to die for including the bacon wrapped dates and the croquettes (we ended up getting two orders of each)! I had the chocolate torte for dessert, but the real winner, especially if you just want a little something was the little pastry with custard. At only $2.25, it was perfect just for a small bit of sweet. Definitely would visit again, very enjoyable experience. read more

Ultreia is a new concept from the group behind Rioja, Stoic & Genuine, Euclid Hall, and Bistro Vendome.  Rioja is one of our favorites, and we have had good food at Stoic & Genuine and Euclid Hall as well. When we ate at Ultreia, it had opened 12 days ago in a small space just inside Union Station.  The menu is heavily influenced by Spanish and Portuguese cooking.  Think lots of olives and lots of ham, or jamon.  Nothing wrong with that.  The drink focus at Ultreia is primarily on gin and tonics: they have eleven different options.  But their drink menu also includes plenty of wine. After a little mid-week happy hour at Vesta, we arrived just before 6 pm and didn't have to wait for a table.  When we sat down, the waitress started walking us through the drink menu.  Andrew ended up ordering the Winston, which has Bulldog gin, Angostura bitters, lemon, lime, and tonic.  It was a solid interpretation of a gin and tonic.  Em got a glass of wine. When it came time to order food, we again turned to our waitress to shepard us through the menu.  Because of the strong Spanish and Portuguese influences on the menu, it is a little difficult to navigate.  The waitress suggested three starters and a main to share.  We started with the Croqueta de Jamon, essentially croquetas with jamon and béchamel sauce.  Those croquetas are a contender for best bite in Denver so far.  If you go, we highly recommend these. We also got the Cana de Cabra, or black walnuts and goat cheese on a skewer.  We were not overly impressed with this dish.  It had no wow factor. Next, we got the Brassica Caliente, which is a salad of cauliflower, gallon, piquillo vinaigrette, pine nut puree, and dried pomegranate.  In the interest of full disclosure, this was a different order than what our waitress had recommended.  She suggested the Ensalada De Escarole Rizada, which has frisee, Cana de Cabra goat cheese, parsley, and honey za'taar.  The cauliflower was good, but we suspect perhaps the frisee salad may have been better. For our main course, we again went against the waitress's recommendation.  She suggested the stew or the prawns.  Instead, we got the leg of lamb.  The lamb was cooked really well, but the accompaniment was a bean salad, which fell flat. On the whole, we were disappointed with Ultreia.  Everyone there was really nice, but the service was slow (particularly for how many staff they had and for the size of the place).  Also, the food ran the gamut from amazing to meh.  And the portions were pretty small, especially for how expensive it is.  We thought that three appetizers and a main would fill us up, but it didn't even come close.  We left hungry, and that never happens. We'll go back and give it another shot in a few months.  But we will not rush back or take guests until we have a better experience. read more

This review is for drinks only, we did not have any food. The patio is a very cute patio for a drink! Fountain, flowers, cute tables and chairs. VERY inviting. I did not know this, but was disappointed to discover, that they are a Gin bar. The only non-gin drink they had was a Bloody Mary. I find that to be a bit limiting - not everyone likes Gin. 2 out of the 3 people in our party, hate it. We almost left, but our friend wanted to stay, since he liked Gin. So we ordered a Bloody Mary - turns out they didn't have any Bloody Mary mix. LOL. We were told by the server, that they would go get some from "downstairs". So we waited - slightly annoyed. The reason I am giving 4 stars and not 3 is due to the manager. He came out, apologized and offered a free drink next time. That's customer service!! This gesture definitely goes A LONG way. Lucky to have stumbled upon Ultreia for date night while in town for the holiday. Food was phenom and the cocktails were plentiful. A few tips: - Tomato bread was not my favorite. The bread comes plain with tomato (and tons of garlic) on the side - Shishito peppers are great and a hefty portion - Don't sleep on the empanadas. They sound funky but we're amazing - Crispy eggplant was golden - Stuffed dates were - as expected - quite tasty - I had a lovely gin cocktail that was huuuuuuge and delicious. I'm blanking on the name but it had rosemary in it All in all, it was a lovely dinner with a lovely ambiance and rang in at a super reasonable price. Would highly recommend it. read more

The restaurant is pretty and the staff here are superb, we also enjoyed the happy hour drinks from Spain. However, the happy hour food portion is really small for the price, especially the $4 skewers. The cod Brandade fish cake and empanada specials were two of the best "tapa style dishes" I have tried. For Christmas Eve, each chef and the pastry chef had created a special (the tapas, one entree and a dessert), they were all amazing in addition to the chef's feast we had for the table (an assortment of regular menu items served in two "waves."). Only complaint is they seemed to be having some serious ventilation issues and the restaurant was very smoky, recruiting staff to occasionally open the doors and blast restaurant with cold air, which, frankly, was better than the smoke. Would definitely come back, perhaps when the outdoor section is open. read more

The food is pretty good here, and the $$$ jamon is fantastic, but I've tried to go here twice since, and both times the restaurant or part of the restaurant is closed for a private event. Fool me twice, shame on me. If I can't count on the restaurant being open on a Saturday night, I'm done. The bartender working tonight's HH couldn't have started off worse. Asked her to help ask the two gentlemen manspreading next to the only available seat with my bf, to possibly squeeze in a little so my bar stool could move out. She responded with an eye roll. No biggie. Bf gets his cocktail and she leaves without asking my order. Sat for a good 10 minutes while she texted. Still no bartender to order a drink. Calamari app comes with just the peel of the lemon. 5 mins into the calamari becoming cold, my partner finally asks for the lemon loud enough for her to hear while she's in service bar reading a drink ticket. Instead of grabbing us a cpl lemons that are right in front of her face so we could enjoy our now cold app, she decides to makes the 4 cocktails first. Now it's laughable. Is she being this audacious and rude intentionally? No drink. No food check. Didn't bother eating the cold app, nor did my bf drink his cocktail. Asked for the check and left. For the record, this is a gin bar for cocktails. Aperol and Chartreuse too. Sorely disappointed with the horrendous service. read more

As a professional cook I love to eat out when traveling and Ultreia never disappoints. The food is traditional Spanish/Mediterranean and is executed perfectly. I sat with my girlfriend and our dog on the patio and the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Our server Benjamin was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Review summary: Casual restaurant located inside Union Square station and very reminiscent of Spanish tapas house with a menu that stays true to that vibe. Lovely outdoor terrace which is actually twice the size of their indoor space. As it was a fantastic mid August night we sat on the outdoor terrace for dinner. As it is a tapas-like restaurant we were allowed to order the meal in "a la carte" allowing us to really enjoy the space / late Denver summer evening. We fashioned the meal in three courses each composed of 2-3 dishes. Service was very attentive and contributed to a wonderful evening (in fact we were at the restaurant for over 2 hours!! Not something that we do often in the US). Note: Best dish of the night were the smoke mushrooms - and a true tapas-like restaurant it's hard to find in the US. Detailed food review: Course number one: We start the meal with small finger food and the tomato gazpacho. - The shishito peppers were a perfect small appetizer which could even serve as an amuse. Although very simple (three ingredients on a skewer) the flavours spoke for themselves! (The best kind of dish). Rating: 5/5 * you need to like anchovy to like this dish. - The Croquetes were simply put to die for! Likely some of the best croquettes I've had outside of Spain/France - they were fried for just the right amount time making them crispy on the outside yet very creamy and delicate on the inside! Rating: 5/5 - The stuffed dates wrapped in Serrano ham were well executed and very good. However the kitchen added additional salt flowers which somewhat distracted from the general flavor particularly as the Serrano ham was already salty. Rating: 4/5 - The tomato gazpacho was served with a bruschetta toast. The entire dish came together very well and the dish was very so slightly sweet side which helped to balance out the acidity. The pairing of the two components went very well together. Rating: 5/5 Course number two: For this course we decided to focus on their large selection of cured meats and as such had ibérico, chorizo and smoked mushrooms. - the iberico was serviced with tomato garlic oil and chard toast. Altogether this was very good and simplistic. Rating: 4/5 - The presentation of the chorizo with manchego was very whimsical. Chorizo themselves had good flavour and the manchego was as expected. Rating: 4/5 - the smoke mushroom were served in a smoked cedar board (in fact, one of its corner was still smoking/Amber as it was brought to the table). This was simply ANAZING! The mushrooms were trumpet and maitake mushroom with a black garlic emulsion/gravy and with some fresh dill to lighten up the dish. Absolutely fantastic experience. Rating 5/5 Dessert course: For dessert we decided to try their chocolate churros and their Portuguese tart. - The Portuguese tart, although prepare slightly differently than the original version, was still quite good. Main differences included a much being thinner crust and a sweeter vanilla custard. But the rest of the preparation was very good. Rating 5/5 - The churros were simply OK. First of all Ultreia is a visually lovely restaurant. Acousitically it is very noisy. The ventilation was not working and my close smelled like fried food and needed to be sent to the cleaners. It does not take reservations which is pretentious, considering the food which at a recent dinner for 4 was mediocre. We had all been to both Spain and Portugal in the past 3 years and this was a reunion to celebrate food. Small plates were really small and considering the portions was over priced. The quality of the food served was no where near the quality of the real thing. Aside from the smaller (really, really small) plates the larger plates options were very limited (3 choices with 1 dish not available) and the quality was not acceptable except for the chicken choice which was tasty and properly marinated and cooked. The deserts were good The service was just okay, the wine choices were okay as well, but nothing special. read more

Ultreia is quite a solid experience. Took our friends (who are locals to the area) for a birthday dinner and it was really nice--some of the best croquettes I've had, really rich jamon (different types), and excellent fall-off-the-bone shortribs. The artichoke was probably my favorite, along with the mushrooms--really special flavor combinations and great textural variety. I felt the pan con tomate was a bit disappointing--not enough flavor in the tomato--and the Portuguese egg tart was similarly underwhelming. Fine, just not much to write home about. Service was pretty fast and very attentive; our waiter suggested (upsold us?) a slightly pricier bottle of wine than we were originally going to get, which ended up being okay, although I felt his description of the notes were a little off. (He was legitimately excited about this bottle, though, so I don't think he meant his suggestion maliciously.) In general, this is a great, cozy space in the train station for a fancy night out. For 4 people, the total ended up being $300 or so, and we got a plethora of tapas plus the bottle of wine and 2 desserts. read more

Ultreia is a cute and trendy spot in Union Station. I came here for happy hour with a few of my friends and tried a few different things on the menu. They have $5 house wines and a small selection of $3 tapas. I tried the octopus, mushroom lettuce wraps, and burrata. All three were yummy and flavorful! I haven't tried their full menu yet but I definitely want to! Highly recommend this place for happy hour though! read more

I am torn about Ultreia. I've had fantastic experiences here -- and also subpar ones where the unfriendliness of the bar staff made me leave and go elsewhere after a drink. The jamón is amazing (iberico or serrano), as is their gin selection and little grilled manchego and jamon sandwich bites. And they still have the best ham croquettes in town in my opinion. The happy hour gin and tonic is only $5 starting at 3pm, but that's the only liquor you'll get on happy hour here. No well vodka replacements. Honestly the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the service is so hit or miss. read more

It was our first time in Denver, we had a layover overnight so we got a LYFT all the way from the airport and went straight to union station. This one was the lucky pick of the night, WE CHOSE WELL. I didn't catch the waiter's name, all i know is he was gay, and he treated us AMAZING!. We literally tried EVERY SINGLE TAPA, AND THEY WERE ALL EXQUISITE, Highly recommend this place. Why not 5 stars you ask? 1. RIDICULOUSLY PRICY, worth it, but still more than I expected to pay that night. 2. I was here for restaurant week. They had a menu special so we got ALL the food. Everything was superb . Highly recommend the migas, the dates, jamón , and patatas bravas. All the dishes were delightful and distinctive. I can't recommend this spot enough. The staff was on point. I dropped a knife on accident and someone was there with a new knife within seconds. My water and cocktail were never empty. Restrooms were located inside the Union Station. For a public restroom they were beyond amazing. 5/5 man . Man, I wanted my experience at Ultreia to be a lot better than it was. They don't take reservations and we only waited about 10 minutes to be sat on their patio, but it took a bit too long to be greeted by a server and there seemed to be some confusion on who exactly our server was, which means we got a rundown of the daily specials twice. I ordered The Real Dill cocktail and it just tasted really watered down. For dinner, we shared the trumpet mushrooms, stuffed dates, pan con tomate, a carrot and goat cheese dip special and the patatas bravas and not a single dish thrilled us. Everything just tasted under-seasoned and it was really disappointing. We were maybe going to order more food and maybe going to get dessert but decided to end the dinner there in favor or ice cream elsewhere. read more
