It seems to cover about half of Asian cuisine - think: Cheesecake Factory, in terms of the menu size. A perfect illustration of this is what my wife and I ordered: 1) Kalbi (Korean Short Ribs) 2) Hibachi chicken and scallops 3) Shaggy Dog Sushi Roll All very different things that you would normally only get at very different restaurants. But Umami had them all and a lot more to choose from. Let me start by saying that I only come to this place for 1 dish AND the first time I came a few years ago it was phenomenal. It seems EVERY time I have went back over the last few years the quality of the dish has went down tremendously. As someone who makes it at home (learned from Korean friends) it's a dish I love and I know what it should be. SO, if your going for Spicy Pork Bulgogi (Jaeyuk Bokkeum), go elsewhere it's not it at all. It's disappointing because it use to be awesome so either they have new chefs who don't know what they are doing or they just have a bad recipe. The food wasn't horrible. I approached the waiter as nicely as possible asking if there was a solution to maybe trade it for something else, or any other solution he could think of and he rudely said no because we "ate too much of it." The restaurant smelled stale and stuffy, and the food was just okay. I had a shrimp teriyaki bento box from their lunch menu, and my husband had the beef teriyaki bento box. Both included extremely bland fried rice (interesting to find bits of corn in the fried rice), a salad which was drowned in dressing, California rolls that had what seemed like lots of mayo and hardly any avocado or cucumber, and tempura vegetables. The vegetables were the best part of it for me. We also ordered miso soup that had almost no tofu at all, and the bits of tofu that were in the soup were about the size of a pea. We ordered two different sushi rolls as well. I had the Tiger Eye Roll, and it was delicious. My husband began to experience a stomach ache almost immediately after we left. I got the Korean bbq beef. AMAZING!!!!! Never had anything like it!! The meat was so tender and not chewy like at other restaurants! The fried rice was full of vegetables and was so fluffy and not dry! It also came with salad with their house dressing! We had the Kalbi Beef (Korean short ribs), rice, miso soup, and an order of Sashimi Salad. My daughter had Edamame beans and an order of California Rolls. All really good stuff, although I really wanted to try a different type of roll, alas my daughter isn't the adventurous type. We also had the fried Cheesecake, I liked it, but I would've loved but the ice cream was different-something off about it but then again I'm an ice cream snob. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but I felt the food came out kind of slow. Maybe better communication between the expo and the cooks/chefs. The manager or owner served us for the start of our meal and he was really nice and friendly. The staff could be a little more enthusiastic to match management. This last was 2 hours waiting on one order that we repeatedly asked for after our group had finished eating. Our daughters birthday, know they saw several presents at table, no recognition.
