Makimono is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. I went twice this weekend! My favorite dishes are the Makimono fried chicken and tofu soups. Every roll I've tried is fantastic too. The restaurant atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. My partner has some food allergies and the staff was very helpful with figuring out all the options she had for her meal. Makimono is one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to. The drinks were fairly priced and so tasty. We were able to get our sushi roll deep fried for an additional fee. That was fine with us. Korean food has never quite been my jam, but Makimono blew me away on a recent takeout order. We came here on a Saturday evening and decided to check this place out. I like the dinning area setup but the upstairs area was closed. The service was great! Our waiter regularly checked on us and when she got busy another one would come over. The only down side was my food. The Yaki Soba wasn't bad but a little too sweet for my liking. MAKE your own call about Makimono... located inside Krog Street Market, I believe they used to be Craft Izakaya, which I did enjoy a lot when it was a full dine in restaurant, but they shut down and reopened as a smaller scale sushi bar counter. After making a circle around the food hall, we were most curious about Makimono. They were close to closing time but luckily not super busy so we took a seat and chatted with some of the guys behind the bar. We asked for suggestions on the best two rolls so they recommended the Ellie and the Lambada, which also happened to be the two sushi rolls on the menu we were eyeing. I'm pretty particular about my sushi and I wasn't expecting much from the rolls. However, they were pretty large and tasty. The Ellie came out nice in photos - the Lambada was probably my favorite of the two, but not as photogenic. Rolls here were a-ok. Nothing special, maybe a step up from grocery store sushi? There are tons of restaurants in Atlanta to grab a mediocre sushi roll from so go ahead and add Makimono to the list if you're craving it while at Krog. read more

I decided to stop by the Krog Street Market to grab some food today. There are lots of great options for food but I decided to get sushi from Makimono. The panko avocado and the lion king roll were delicious! I also tried the spring rolls which were pretty standard but they were really good in the sweet chili sauce. read more

Was unaware of their poor customer service until I experienced it myself. As a paying customer I ordered noodles and I needed another pair of chopsticks. He refused to give me another pair of chopsticks even after I paid for my meal. Horrible service and policies when the worker was starring at me while I was only grabbing four napkins. First time on the belt line and we stop in for some sushi. We started with the pork Gyoza, cooked perfectly. Then we had The W99 (see photo) was fanatic! Large enough to satisfy your hunger. Finished our meal with the chicken fried rice and Salad. Ginger dressing is really good. The only thing knocking it from a 5 star to a 4 was the fried rice. The chicken was over cooked and the rice had no flavor. Sushi roll are huge and a must if you come here. The menu had Plenty of other items to check out on our next visit. I've only been able to eat inside the restaurant twice now but their take out side is always busy. Finally tried their sushi after dropping in for gyoza or drinks and it was amazing. Super fresh, fast, and the service is always great. This time the owner was behind the bar working and you can tell a lot of thought and care has gone into the place. My wife and I ALWAYS make sure to eat this sushi restaurant whenever we're at Krog Street Market. The atmosphere is beautiful with mood lighting and dark wood Japanese architecture. Out of all the Japanese/Korean Sushi restaurants we've visited in the Metro Atlanta Area, this is definitely the best in our opinion. Outside of the large variety of options for vegetarians and vegans with their sushi, they also have amazing soups, Sakes and Sojus! Speaking of their Sojus, make sure to try their mango Soju! It's delicious sneaky with 13 ABV per serving, so a few will have you feeling very nice! If you're looking for more of a stronger punch, you can try their original Soju (20 ABV) if you're feeling daring. Overpriced, our food ranged from meh to bleh. Raman ($19) was inedible, featuring packet noodles (e.g. Nongshim Shin instant, but not that good) and grisly bits of tough sliced beef. California roll was ok, especially as (at $15) it was the least expensive item we ordered. Nothing was "good". Everything was expensive and I can think of a dozen restaurants in Atlanta where I could have ordered excellent examples of the same items for far less $$. Service was indifferent. Todays lunch break consisted of sushi from Makimono at Krog Street Market. Very dope and mellow vibe especially during the week. Not as much traffic which is my vibe. Makimono is a place for a nice date for sushi, a solo outing or a place you and friends can go to but it's not much room outside of the bar, but if you've been to Krog Street Market you know there's plenty of room. I ordered the Spider Roll ($16) which consists of deep fried soft shell crab, crab salad, avocado, and cucumber topped with masago eel sauce. After a walk around the market my rolls were ready. I sat at a nearby table and enjoyed my rolls. The Spider Rolls were good. The End. Very fresh but you can taste more vegetables than anything which wasn't an issue. But from a informing standpoint I think it's important you know that when considering which rolls you want. Overall, a great place for sushi. I recommend it to any sushi lover. We had a pretty early dinner so it wasn't crowded at all. It is a sit-down restaurant inside Krog. Our waitress was still in training so she messed up a couple things, but the staff was super nice and got everything corrected. It is a bit pricier than I think it should be, so that was my only critique. Gyoza was really good. Yaki Udon was basic, but good. Lion King Roll was DELICIOUS! Great sushi bar in Krog Market! Probably the best Shrimp Tempura Roll I have had ever. It was rolled and made to perfection. This place serves big sushi rolls and they are very feeling. The miso soup was not too bad. The restaurant is located in Krog Market which is like of a food court but they also have an entrance to the outside so you don't have to walk through the market to come inside. They have a full service bar with reasonably priced cocktails, beer and specialty drinks. The drinks are great! The dining room is spacious with a large TV. You can also sit at the bar and watch as the sushi chef prepares your roll. Great ambiance- cool and chill vibe and nice upbeat music pipes inside. Always like going to Krog City market. Lively environment. My initial thought while visiting this place was that it's expensive. And it is! BUT the rolls and the sushi pieces are large and delicious. Almost twice the size than a traditional sushi restaurant. Food was delicious. Service was blah. And no fresh black or green iced tea. Seems like that should be a sushi staple! I had a Diet Coke. In a can. No cups or ice. If the staff were a even a little friendly and they had fresh iced tea, I would have given 5 stars. read more

On last Sunday I took a Trip to Krog Street Market. I was in the mood for sushi snd wanted to try out Makimono. I ordered One of the signature rolls called the " Crunch Roll." I love Shrimp and this roll was covered in shrimp. ( doesn't get much better than that). Your items are made to order so I waited awhile, but that wasn't a Problem for me. Normally, I would wait until I make it home to eat my food, but those rolls ( all 10) didn't stand a chance. Everything about that roll was amazing !!! This little sushi window is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in Atlanta! Makimono is located in the Krog St Food Hall with both a quick, take-out window and nice, indoor seating in the back. While the rolls are each about $20, they are very large and leave you extremely full, which is rare for sushi. My go-to roll is the Lion King, all ingredients are so fresh and flavorful. So, we decided to try this spot out inside the Krog Street Market, rolls were ok, the guys making them were very nice but the man taking care of the cash register was the absolute worst person. Biggest POS! Never have we encountered someone being so damn disrespectful the way he treated the employees as well as the way he not only tossed the receipt at me but the pen as well. It was like we were bothering him when ordering our rolls. The fact this place allows a POS that is apparently not even a manager and is just a "regular " employee to work there is ridiculous. The employees apparently have to deal with it and suck it up. To the manager of this place get your shit together and listen to your employees/ customers. read more

Impromptu trip to Krog St Market and this spot caught my eye. Initially I thought that I'd build my own roll. I love that they have that option but the Shrimp Crunch sounded really good. And guess what, it really was. I had the roll with everything except cucumber and green onion. The shrimp and the crunch topper made this roll so outstanding for me. Each order consists of 10 pieces and that was more than enough. My daughter had the chicken fried rice. I wasn't as impressed with it. It lacked the savory factor for me but I think the corn kernels made it taste sweeter to me. But I'll definitely be back for more sushi and the fried chicken. read more
