Been there for over 30 years, although their record shows less for unknown reasons. It is too bad, and the relationship is likely to end soon. Most of the time I'd have given them 3 stars, but the most recent event changed that. I bought a couple of things that brought the balance down to roughly $100, and then made a very large holiday food purchase at Costco. It went through, no problem, but I looked at my account the next day only to see that I had been charged three overdraft fees instead of one. I called. The snitty member "services" person who answered did not seem to understand my concern, and blamed Costco for the problem. In my opinion, right, wrong, or indifferent, at least one, and perhaps two of the fees should have been removed -they were not earned by them or deserved by me. They were not removed, and the attitude I received made things worse -salt-in-the-wound worse. UPDATE: Very shortly after posting the above, i received a call from the credit union. Apologies were provided (I believe them to have been very sincere) and accepted. I was also told the overdraft fees had been removed (they have been). This kind of proactive oversight caused me to reconsider the one star, and I will see if I can bump it to a three if I can. Obviously, the original incident was a negative, but the fix was impressive and positive. read more

Have had this happen on more than one occasion. I have done cash deposits through atms recommended through the UME app and website and have had check holds put on those deposits. Their after hours call center has told me they cannot help so I am now stranded without access to my cash funds. I will be walking away from this credit union, the care that is said is there is just a lip service. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

Ume you look so pretty inside. Very nice location, friendly workers however leaves a lot to desire. My rep was very friendly and did a lot of social talk, granted I work for a credit union but just because I know what a checking account is it doesn't mean I know their products. My membership was established in 20 mins, I had to ask what the requirements are to keep my checking free of charge. There's a $5 fee to join plus your $5 in your saving. I think reps sometimes fail to explain a little more of the services and unique products they may have. You may ask if I work for a credit union why do I need a different bank? I need it a separate savings, plus I'm always curious to learn of different products that can earn me higher dividend and lower loan rates. If you live around the area it may work for you. I will try logix next week and depending on how it goes I might close this account. read more

Bank is animal friendly. They even have doggie bones for the dog. And kisses for us. Every time I come here there is no one here but as soon as I leave there are people coming in. Glad that happens cause then I don't have to wait. Tellers are friendly and helpful. I come in and go out fast. I mean super fast. They have a playground for the kids.. read more

My husband and I are waaaaay happier here than we ever were at any mainstream bank. We have used UMe for a car and personal loan, both paid off. And we have our checking and savings accounts with them, as well as my business checking and savings accounts. Elizabeth is absolutely amazing, so helpful and always there for us. I get an email response from her within 5-10 minutes any time I have a question or concern. I love the re-designed lobby including the complimentary bottled water, coffee and tea. Wow. This place is awesome. Ok so me and business partner came in to open a business account today. The office is clean; lots of glass and wood. The receptionist was super nice and offered us free coffee (keurig!) and water. Also they have dog biscuits for your pup. We took a seat in big comfortable leather chairs and looked at a magazine while listening to the ACTUALLY GOOD music playing softly (Grimes!). We waited for less than five minutes then met with Helen Guerra who was so helpful and nice. We are now set up with a business banking account and seriously considering opening personal checking accounts too. Maybe because I belong to Bank of America and I'm used to everything being awful that I think Ume is just the best thing ever. Seriously. Helen rules. The office is beautiful. I work for a major Credit Union in Southern California and UME is one of the best. They are member driven and I'm never charged any fees. The staff here is super friendly and I will keep going back. The only thing I'm going to suggest is for UME to get an iPhone and Android App. The younger generation needs this! Also as the baby boomers are getting more acclimated to technology they will have a use for it as well. If you do decide to get an app, here is what it needs. I'm amazed at how many positive reviews I have read on here for this credit union. I recently cancelled my savings account with them and moved to a different credit union. In the year that I was a member of UMe, I never once felt appreciated as a member, and whenever I contacted them with an issue it was like pulling teeth to get any response from them. I initially joined to apply for a debt consolidation in early 2012. I had been told over the phone that I was approved but had to go in to the physical branch to finalize everything. They charged me the $5 membership application fee, which seems standard, plus the $5 minimum deposit for the savings account, fine, then a $10 "optional" (it wasn't) donation to charity since I live just outside Burbank in Studio City... ok, fine, the debt consolidation was going to really help me get on top of my finances so what's another $10? I left that day thinking, wow credit unions are amazing, I can't wait to nail this debt and build my savings here. Two days later Frank the loan guy calls me and tells me that I've been denied for the loan that I'd been told I was approved for, because it turns out my income was less than they thought it was. Even though the error was on their part, I understood the decision. During that process, I became frustrated trying to deal with Frank. He seemed to not actually listen to my questions but would just answer vaguely without ever addressing any of my actual concerns. For example I was having trouble finding my copy of my lease agreement for my apartment to prove residence and I asked him if I could show my cancelled rent checks which had my address written on them, or my tax return. He ignored the question and said, as long as your name is on the lease agreement, I can use that. Ok, so cut to this year. Better job, but worse debt, mostly due to very high interest. Long story short, I make sure to get my income reported correctly and am again told on the phone that I am approved with a competitive APR. Just need to verify my income with my paystubs. I do that. I am declined for my loan again. I was declined because of debt obligations to my income. Currently I only owe about 1/3 of my annual income, but have extremely high interest rates. Which is why I applied for a debt consolidation loan. And was denied it because I have a lot of debt. Which is why I applied for a DEBT CONSOLIDATION loan. The rejection letter they later sent me cited one of my credit reports as being the reason for the decision. So I ran my annual credit report and found nothing wrong with my credit and a score higher than I had even expected. So I followed up with Frank asking for further explanation. He simply repeated the statement from before, that my debt was high. (See above pararagraph.) And he also said that my credit score would be lower when they ran it than when I did it because it dings the score when you apply for stuff. Yes, but I ran my check *after* they did. I responded to Frank's email asking him if most people applying for debt consolidation loans had their debt well under control before doing so? I never received a response to that email. I called them three days ago to cancel my membership, clearly unhappy. I made my dissatisfaction known in my written cancellation request. To date, no one from UMe has followed up with me with anything resembling caring. In the last two weeks I have been approved for two different debt consolidation loans, including one from my new credit union that is for more money, AND less APR than the one UMe pretended to approve me for and then denied me. So all I have to show for my year's membership are two frustrating dealings with Frank and $15 that I'll never see again. read more

Their 24/7 Online banking is really disappointing. It's buggy quite often. There's no way to login on the app or even the website. They also only hold regular 10-6 business hours so there is no way to check your balance or get any help when this happens. No notifications either or updates on when it will be back. Just hours of sorry error on the app or the login credentials area being missing on their website. read more

I've been with UMe since November 5 when I left Bank of America for Bank Transfer Day. I was worried at first about switching to a small credit union, but I've found it very easy to access my money all over the country through the Co-Op network, and UMe's online banking does everything I did with Bank of America. Plus, UMe doesn't do all the things I didn't like about Bank of America (sub prime lending, poor customer service, just general too-big-to-fail attitude). I'm also really happy with UMe's credit card. My interest rate is lower than my other cards, and I really like the feature that allows any overdrafts from my checking account to be added to the Credit Card without a fee! I've never used this feature, but it's a great piece of mind to know it's there. I do wish that I could see check images of deposited checks in online banking, and I haven't been able to link UMe to Mint.com the way I'd like to (Mint doesn't have UMe in their system just yet), but these minor inconveniences are far outweighed by the pluses. read more

So far, I really like this credit union. I switched from Lockheed in January because Lockheed doesn't offer Business Accounts right now :( ... but UMe does! I really didn't want to go back to a major bank for my business, so I was really happy to find that UMe had what I needed (it seems that most credit unions do not). FYI - Make sure that your online password is only 10 characters or you'll have trouble logging in anywhere other than their full website. Took us a while to figure that one out. ;) read more

I was sucked into joining this credit union by it's great logo design and other people's glowing reviews, but I keep finding more reasons to dislike this institution. It is only good if you live really close to it and have a cushion of cash while they take their time. 1. I have only come across 1 atm at 7/11 in Los Angeles that I can deposit checks into so far. all the others I can only get cash out of. Also the fact that I can't deposit cash into it is irritating. There really aren't many credit unions in Los Angeles that they share with and those all have annoying limited hours. 2. The app for the iphone doesn't work and isn't good, but they keep pushing it. 3. They are closed on Saturdays and only have mom hours. 4. You can't update your address from their website or over the phone. You have to print out a form and mail it or fax it. This is really inconvenient. 5. The new interface is ugly and when they just updated it all of my bill pay info got erased and I have to reenter it 6. They have issues with completing paypal transfers and payments. They lost a large chunk of money that I needed to pay rent. And member services brushed me off in the first email asking for help and didn't reply back to me the second email. I contacted paypal and they did everything on their end that they could, but after their trace confirmed that the money was deposited and not rejected I called them and it turned out my money was in SOMEONE ELSE'S ACCOUNT! For 2 weeks! I missed 1 digit and somehow even with it clearly under my name sat in someone's account. Does no one check these things? Why did I have to wait two weeks? How does this happen? They just said I have to triple check what I type in, but why wasn't the transaction rejected? This makes no sense. read more

UMe is THEE place keep your cash! From the moment you walk in, you feel like a neighbor or distant cousin (in a good way) :) The place is clean and modern, offering a coffee while you wait. Like many are doing these days, I branched out and started my own business this year. Having a business account is one of the first steps and choosing UMe was one of the BEST decisions I made. Transferring money between accounts is easy, limitless, and most of all free! Aside from how well UMe takes care of my dollars, I also appreciate their progressiveness which is shown in their marketing and branding. Any credit union or business for that matter that puts their minds to thinking out of the box and staying current, shows they are on their A game. I was not planning to leave a review yet but I applied for a refinance car loan like a month ago and no answer. The application is really easy but after a week they called me to confirm some details. You will need 2 pay stub, the most recent ones to be specific. I provided 3 but I still haven't recieved any answers after that. They do offer a good APR% but certainly takes forever to even get one. If you call your representative specialist they will not answer. For some strange reason they ask for the value of the car when you already provided the VIN number of the vehicle. They will send you a pre-approved email right after finishing the application but no APR% is disclosed. By the reviews I read is like they can you to apply but takes forever to recieved an answer. read more

I recently became a member of another credit union but I didn't think membership mattered when all you want is 2 rolls of quarters and you show up with a $20. At every bank I've ever been at, they encourage you to skip the line when all you want it quarters for cash. But not here. Here they looked at me like a shoplifter. When I offered the $20 and asked for 2 rolls of quarters, the teller beside me (not the one in front of me) asked "Are you a member?" "Well, no." She kinda froze up like a telemarketer would when taken off-script. The teller before me tried to find a way to record the transaction on her computer before the second teller told her she didn't have to. I assured them that I was a credit union member down the street but that I came here because this one was closer and all I need is....2 rolls of quarters. "We'll do it for you just this once" was her ignominious reply. The teller in front of me smiled sweetly when she gave me the quarters. There were a lot of people in line witnessing this awkward moment. The last time I was in to this branch was with a friend (who was a member of a sister credit union )and the teller neglected to return her military ID with the paperwork and we had to go back for it 30 minutes later when we realized what had happened. So, congratulations UME! You have earned the "Weirdness Award". read more

My advice if banking in Burbank is to use Logix on Hollywood Way. Ume's service and product quality have gone downhill. 3 reasons to leave Ume. ---30k car loan at Ume was 3.5%. Logix was 2.5% and they did the whole loan over the phone. Ume got beat on price and service. ---I wanted to increase my credit card limit. Ume required proof of income and proof of rental property income(to many hoops to jump through). Logix was able to beat their rate and credit limit without running my credit. Plus Logix did it in less than 5 minutes. ---Ume closes at 5pm, except on Friday(the most crowded day). Logix is always open until 6pm on weekdays and they are open Saturday. In my opinion Logix feels like they want my business and they make it easy. With Ume, it feels like pulling teeth to get a mediocre deal. I'm done with Ume!! Trust me!!! Logix is better!! read more

I went in and sat down with her, we handled business and I left very satisfied. She knew what she was doing, she had a great attitude and she finished the job as quickly as she could. Service is always with a smile, the front desk ladies are awesome, though... I did encounter a hiccup when trying to apply for a credit card and got conflicting information from different staff members (in the glass offices, not front desk). I ended up leaving and not applying for one. Downside is that the ATMs are the older kind that require envelopes, so deposits take a few days to clear. That said, at least the lines are usually short and/or move quickly, so I don't bother with the ATM. And I agree with Marc E. that UMe needs an app, a functional, reliable one! I try using mobile banking via their website on my iPhone and I keep getting errors :( Overall, despite the minor inconveniences, I'm pleased to be a member of a credit union instead of a big bank. I don't think I have ever reviewed a place lower than 4 or 5 stars except for today and I'm not happy to do so either.. I came in last week to make a credit card payment. Was greeted when I walked in, like always. Made the payment in about 2 mins. When making the payment I had a question about my credit card (I have a secured credit card which is pretty much a debit card but counts towards my credit, it's how I started building my credit) I had only 1 question which I'm pretty sure anyone could have answered but no one did or gave me the chance to. I asked, "So when will I be able to upgrade to a regular credit card?"...that's it...that's all I wanted to know. I asked the teller the question and she responded with, "You can definitely sign in and a personal banker will be more than happy to explain to you your options." I don't know why she couldn't have answered the question but then again maybe she didn't know or she's not suppose to answer questions like that...who knows So I sign in with the lady at the front desk and then I take a seat... 25 mins later...the lady at the front desk says, "oh my gosh you're will here waiting? I'll have someone help you out as soon as possible, it will only be another 5-10 mins tops." Another 20 mins later (now 45 mins of me waiting) a personal banker walks over to me and apologizes for the wait and has me come in. I promise you I only spoke to him for about 30 seconds, and our conversation went something like this... Personal banker: "Hello! Sorry about the long wait, how can I help you?" Me: "No worries, I just had a question about my secured credit card.." Personal banker: "Sure! What's the question?" Me: "So when will I be able to upgrade to a regular credit card?" Personal banker: "Well when did you sign up for the secured credit card?" Me: "Mmm I believe in April 2014.." Personal banker: "Ok! So a year from that date." Me: "So in April 2015 I can apply for an upgrade and receive a regular credit card?" Personal banker: "Yep! You'll most likely be approved if you've made all monthly payments for a year!" Me: "Yeah I've made every payment.." Personal banker: "Great! So then you'll get approved!" Me: "Oh alright.." Personal banker: "Anything else I can help you with today?" Me: "No, that was it, thank you." Personal banker: "Absolutely! Thank you for coming in!" It was a frustrating situation. I don't understand why either the teller didn't know this information, or can't discuss that information or just wanted the line to keep moving...either way I left extremely unhappy all because I had to wait 45 mins to ask a simple question. read more

A++ for UMe Credit Union. I never knew I could *love* a financial institution/bank. I often have unique situations with my business account, dealing with many different clients from large corporations to individual human beings - it's been great knowing I have UMe to count on. As a customer, I always feel that I'm their priority - on the phone, or in person. As a side note: Their ads are clever, which I appreciate in a world that is constantly dumbing-down messaging. While the branch is always clean, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. I really hope they grow as an organization! Ever since they updated their app I constantly get locked out of my online banking and the app. It is extremely annoying because the only way to fix this is to call during business hours and have them unlock my account. It's one thing if it's my fault for forgetting the password but it is seriously randomly locked out before I can even put my password in 85% of the time. I am so over calling to have it fixed. I have told them about this issue every time I call but it seems they don't care because it's been 3 months of this and it still happens. They also got rid of the feature in the app where you could set up future payments. I really like being about to set up my car payment ahead of time so it would come out automatically. read more

This is a good place to go, if you want to get away from the big banks, just as a matter of principle, which I did. However, the online bill pay system is only so-so, although much improved since I signed on a year + ago. And, the check hold policy is a bit severe, as are the overdraft fees. So, all in all -- not that much better than the big banks. As an aside, I was rather put off, when I went in to apply for a second on my home, and got the very hard sell to refinance my first, with very little consideration given to my needs or reasons for taking the second. The interest rate on my first is excellent -- no need to refinance. I never bothered to go any further with that prospect. This isn't a bad bank. Like I said, it is a perfectly good place to go, if you want to get away from the big bad guys. Just don't expect something amazing, or all that much different from what you were getting before. read more

I have been a member with UMe since it was Burbank Federal Credit Union for over 20 years. We were shopping for a newer/used SUV and found the vehicle we wanted. I shopped around for car loan rates and UMe came back with the lowest rate out of any bank; even the major ones. We needed to move fast and both Elizabeth and Gisela were able to turn around our loan very quickly after we applied and supplied the right paperwork. The icing on the cake is Mike Buckley, who is their Car Locator/Specialist. Basically, he helps people find the car they are looking for and coaches them through the process. We actually found the SUV we wanted and Mike spent a lot of time coaching us through every aspect of the car buying experience. He checked the vehicle's history, told us the best value for the car and what we should pay out the door, what we should get for our trade in, how to haggle on pricing, advice on where to get information for extended warranties, questions we should ask, etc. etc. I have never had a great car buying experience before but because of him, we came home extremelly happy with our new car. UMe Credit Union was rated high and I'm so glad I went with them! They were courteous, knowledgeable and offered low interest rates on my auto loan. Although my car search was long, once I found a great car, they were quick to help facilitate the purchase, paperwork and everything necessary to make it happen. I've been with UMe for over 3 years now and today reminded me why I switched from Chase. Robert helped me with my simple deposit and when I asked about CDs and how they worked, he was very patient with me and answered every question I had. He gave me one of the best customer service experiences I've had in a long time! He treated me with respect and not just like another person waiting in line. I mentioned that I was engaged and looking to save money, and he advised me on their rates for auto loans and was just so helpful and had such a personal touch. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! I "broke up" with B of A about 10 years ago to open an account with my local credit union- UME. I have always liked banking here and how community oriented it feels but over the past year, I have come to LOVE and deeply appreciate my bank. There have been a lot of recent financial challenges in my life and I am blown away by how patient, understanding and helpful everyone at UME is. Just this past week, Lizzie went above and beyond to help me- and it actually brought me to tears over the phone!
