Really fresh and delicious sushi from this hidden Healdsburg gem that's been around for 20 years. Small mom and pop place behind the Westamerica Bank just off Piper & Healdsburg Avenue. We had the sushi: Healdsburg roll (spicy tuna,avocado with escolar, tuna on top, with unagi sauce) for $15.95, Utah roll (prawn tempura, crab, tuna with sauce) for $19.95 and Marilyn Monroe roll (prawn tempura, crab, scallop with sauce) which had a pink sauce for $19.95. Huge portions with 9 pieces each which melt in your mouth. One star off as they use imitation crab. Large Sapporo for $7.95 must be the best deal in town (like 3 beer equivalent). They also have a wide assortment of sake which we didn't try. Last time I got the prawn and vegetable tempura for $17.95 and it was huge! Came with rice and dipping sauce. Yummy. They have a cute sushi bar with seats and it's air conditioned inside, with a pet friendly patio with fountain outside. There are 4 Japanese restaurants in town and though a lot of folks got take out here, it's not crowded even the Saturday night of July 4th holiday. Recommend you give them a try! read more

Really terrible service. Went there for my kid's birthday. Everyone got their food but me. I waited and waited and by the time I realized they weren't bringing it, everyone else was done eating. If they had offered to make my food on the house maybe I wouldn't be writing this., but honestly I don't know. I even looked at the server and verified twice what I ordered. So for them to still not bring it was just insulting. Go to Otoro instead. Sake-o is worthless. I'd give zero stars if I could. I certainly gave the server zero tip. read more

My girlfriend and I have been coming here for a very long time. Some of the best sushi we've had and it's always fresh. The manager, Frank, is incredible and always makes sure that we are well taken care of. My favorites are the Carburetor Roll, Martini Prawns and Miso! Really nice flavor and rich coloring. Martini prawns - what a mess. Tough, strangely battered dry prawns, luke warm at best swimming in a mayo sauce that lacked depth of flavor. Total disappointment. For great martini prawns - royal China off piner rd. California roll was fresh and full of flavor. One of the better California rolls I've had. The Utah roll was decent - I'd get this again. Stopped by to try their shrimp martini which had been highly recommended to us by a friend. Miso soup and salad were standard fare and both good. Then, we had their prawn martini appetizer. Six shrimp flash fried with minimal breading served over shredded carrots. They coated the shrimp in a spicy mayo sauce which was tasty. Very tasty sushi. Came here over the weekend for dinner with my g/f's dad, and a friend of her dads. Plenty of parking in the lot outside. I think it shares parking with a nearby grocery store. We were sat right away once we entered. Prices seemed very fair. Me and my girl ordered the Kelly roll and the Dynamite Roll. Both were very tasty. Nothing over the top but still pretty tasty. My favorite sushi in Sonoma County. You must get the martini prawns, it comes in a sauce with carrots and 6 prawns. Mouth watering. All of the sushi rolls are good, but my favorite is the Utah Roll. That is a must get when you are here. Also, the lemon chicken, it comes in an amazing sauce with broccoli, potatoes and carrots. For dessert, I like to get the deep fried banana topped on ice cream. Wow.. we arrived hungry and quickly ordered a couple of sushi rolls at the bar.. Barry, our sushi chef went right to work and wow... they arrived so quickly and beautiful that we didn't want to eat the art work!!! yet in five minutes we devoured the first roll. It was a roll with smoked salmon and I am here to say any future visit we will get that roll! The smoked salmon added a little delicate flavor that was a nice change.. the fish on the rolls was cut thicker than most sushi restaurants and that really makes a Big difference to each yummy bite! The prices are very reasonable for what you get. We were both pretty full with just two rolls and the tempura banana/ ice cream dessert that also tempted us.. We looked at the reviews and decided to give it a try. This place is using fresh ingredients, this is taking them to a different level above other places. Service was decent and efficient, no complaints. We tried the Dragon roll and it was great, the Alaska roll (fresh Salmon), the Spider roll (fresh ingredients but overall taste was ok, nothing more) and the Philly roll was a hit with one of our family members. We're so glad that we found this gem, located one block from buzzing down town Healdsburg. Love everything we had: monk fish liver, spicy tuna stuffed jalapeño, Hana roll and Healdsburg roll. The special sushi rolls are super fresh, clean, delicious with just the right size for a bite. The monk fish liver is the perfect appetizer to start a great meal. Sake O has your typical bland surroundings, and is your basic "no frills" sushi restaurant. They have an OK selection of sake, with the typical sushi we are all used to and a few more creative rolls. The waitstaff was prompt. Two of our party of five ordered tea, and we all got (and paid for) tea....but that is no big deal. The most enjoyed roll we had was the Carborator Roll, and the ahi poke was decent. The salmon skin roll was flavorless and one bit was all I needed. This is you basic 3-star restaurant, but as we were wrapping up our meal (after buying lost of food AND drinks) the waiter came over to let us know there was a party of six waiting for our table. This is my go-to place quite honestly. Healdsburg seems to be closing super early on the weekends since COVID hit, but this place stays open. I'm Vegan and there are a lot of options, extremely full when I leave! There are 3 rolls to choose from and some around have asked a couple times what it is because it looks impressive. This restaurant is EVERYTHING I love about a Sushi Restaurant. It is very cozy with a nice sushi bar. There are two VIP booths that face the entire restaurant that make you feel important. The Unagi was flavorful and crisp, the avocado was fresh, the Salmon was delicious, the Ikura was very very tasty and the ginger salad dressing was really yummy. My sister and I went to Sake O for lunch today. It was busy, but we were seated right away. When the server came by with water, I asked him what kind of oil they used for their fried foods, since I can't have soy oil. He replied that they used soy oil, so no fried foods for me. I then asked him to check on their mayonnaise, since both of their sushi specials included California Rolls, which are made with mayo. He said, "Oh, I don't think mayonnaise has soy." I told him it often does, and could he please check, so I knew what I could order. He actually rolled his eyes at me. My sister and I left, and he met my eyes as we exited the restaurant. I told him we were leaving, and he said "fine." This was a brief exchange. I am self conscious about asking that my dietary needs be met, and I can get the information I need by asking just a couple of questions. I don't think I've ever been treated this dismissively by wait staff at a restaurant. My sister and I had a lovely lunch at Thai Orchid. read more

Sake O is my go-to sushi place in Healdsburg! My parents live here and I live at Sake O whenever I'm home. I'm a sushi fiend and this restaurant has some of the best sushi I've ever had. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My favorite dishes: -Martini prawns a a must. The lightly breaded prawns are crispy and warm, tossed in a creamy and decadent sauce with the perfect hint of spice! -Shumai is a much lighter appetizer option and is served in an adorable dim sum container with a spicy chili sauce for dipping. -Dynamite roll is so good - a California roll topped with cooked salmon and smothered in the same sauce as the martini prawns and torched just enough to caramelize the top. (My mouth is wateringgg, isn't yours?) -Utah roll is the most filling sushi roll I've ever had. If you're someone who isn't exactly satisfied by sushi, this is the way to go! Carborator roll (aka California roll topped with crab) topped with fresh raw tuna...it's like sushinception! -Volcano roll is one of my favorite rolls, spicy and light, with tuna that's always perfectly prepared and presented on a beautiful plate (I LOVE spice so I think this roll is delicious, but be cautious if you can't handle the heat because this has some kick). -Caterpillar roll is solid and beautifully prepared. Really love how fresh the avocado always is and the eel is so tender. -Lemon chicken is my favorite entree plate and is a great option if you're not in the sushi mood. Ok being honest...I've never ordered this because I'm always in the sushi mood...BUT my brother is a tank who always gets this in addition to sushi and I've picked off his plate and know how good it is! -Mango mochi is totally an acquired taste since not everyone is down for ice cream wrapped in dough but I dig it and these are good in that it's not too doughy. I also hate green tea mochi which is usually the only flavor most restaurants carry, so I appreciate the selection. Be forewarned that they don't have a ton of mochi on hand and sometimes run out! I'm also pretty sure it's store bought so don't expect something homemade. Still whatever brand they're buying is prime. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As amazing as the food is here it fell short of 5 stars because it is on the pricier side (even for sushi) and the service can get a little slow when the place gets busy since they only have a couple servers. Great sushi! We weren't expecting much, because Healdsburg isn't really a place you'd expect to find much sushi, but it was really good. Reasonably priced, clean, good fast service, and tasty. It looks like a small run family business, which I love supporting. We had the shrimp shumai, really good! My husband ordered the spicy tuna roll, and the philly roll. I ordered the tempura shrimp roll and the California roll. They were all tasty, and the sauce on the spicy tuna roll was so good!! My only critique would be that I prefer a bit more rice on my sushi, but we ordered a side of rice and ate that with our sushi, so it was no big deal.
