One of the cutest boba tea shops I've ever seen. It is clean with plenty of seating. I love that there was the Chicago Skyline and a Bean right when you walked in. I was here on a weekday, and it wasn't busy at all. Which was fine with me because Chinatown can get crazy busy at times. You could either order at the kiosk, or at the register. The woman who took my order was friendly. With so many drinks to choose from, I got the popular lychee and watermelon tea with lychee fruit and jelly. The boba drinks here are on par with the rest of the options in Chinatown so I think what makes this place stand out is the little plushies that you can get in a drink or purchase separately. I finally got to try out their boba tea. It was delicious! I originally wanted to try their strawberry matcha slush, but they were out of matcha powder, so I got the strawberry slush with salted cream. Then the next time I went their again. It was disappointing...I'm not sure if it was because it was on a Friday night, so it was busy. We waited for a long time for our order. I saw that they have a new item on the menu, black tea with taro & mochi, so my sister ordered that one. My cousin recommended the peach slush, so my brother ordered that one to try, and I ordered the black milk tea with pearl and taro. I usually order my drinks with 50% sugar because they tend to be on a sweeter side. But when my brother and I tried ours, it was not sweet at all, like they completely forgot to add the syrup to our drinks. I have no idea if it was too busy on a Friday night that they forgot one ingredient, but it was as if it had 0% sugar. So I couldn't really enjoy my drink to the fullest. What a cute boba spot! We happen to walk past Ume tea while waiting to be seated at a restuarant. The decor is so cute, everything is pink and cute and they have a mini chicago bean on display. It's self service to order your drinks/food. We only ordered drinks- Brown Sugar boba & mochi black milk tea & Lychee and watermelon green tea. Both were really good the lychee watermelon tea was very refreshing and the brown sugar boba so creamy and tasty. They do have an option to adjust the sweetness which I appreciate, I chose 75% 'sweetness' which was perfect! They also have some appetizers (popcorn chicken, fries etc) if u want a snack. I am beyond disappointed with our experience at Ume Tea. Guess how long it took to get one of our two bubble teas? One hour. An entire painstaking hour of waiting indoors in an overcrowded space with people equally as confused and annoyed at the situation. That is absolutely absurd. It should not take this long or even half this time for two drinks. What's more is that one of the women behind the counter saw people she knew and got all of their drinks ready ahead of EVERYONE else. Preferential treatment at its finest. The store is absurdly hot, music is loud, and it does not make any sense. Why do you have everyone ordering on the left on iPads and yet all the same people are supposed to pick up on the left? Which makes the entire store wait on the left side. What is more is that after ordering it says on the text message that they'll text you when it's done. Never received that text either. Everyone there should have gotten their drinks for free. This is by far one of the worst experiences we've had. Once we got our tea it was fine but one of them had huge watermelon seeds in it. Absolutely need to rethink the layout, hire more workers, actually fill the orders in order and not when your friends walk in. read more

The boba here is so good! It's fresh, soft and sweeten with brown sugar. I went on a Saturday when it was busy and it took 10-15 minutes to get our drinks.It is a little pricey but for how well balanced it was with perfectly cooked boba, it was worth. I had the black milk tea with taro. It had real taro in it which not a lot of places have. They also have blind boxes with a plushy on the bottom. It was super cute and unique to try! read more

Very cute decor and ambiance. I came because I saw how the cups can be opened for a plushie hidden inside. It is an option that can be added to any drink. The plushie part was really fun but the drink itself was sort of bland and not really flavorful. It was supposed to be iced but most of it melted and it ended up being sort of watered down and luke warm.
