Its been way too long since my last visit here. I actually had had lunch earlier across the street at a place a friend picked, which was nice because I hadn't realized that Andy's only does take out now. But it worked out because I picked up my second lunch/early dinner here, my favorite Papa tostada! Since they pack all the meals to go now, the tortilla chips are packaged separately to keep them crispy. My Mexican fam members would cringe at calling this a "tostada" but whatever it's called, it's been my go-to first choice meal here for over 20 years. The base is their veggie chili with a sprinkle of cheese, topped with their special tomato sauce, a huge mound of green leaf lettuce, chunks of tomatoes, a nest of alfalfa, sour cream, and guacamole. The chili now has a tiny kick to it, which is a recent change, which will probably appeal to most people. And it's only $9.99, what??!!! My favorite sandwiches here are the ahi or fresh turkey, tomato, and avocado sandwiches. The turkey is roasted in-house, very moist, and sprinkled with a special seasoning. The ahi is a tasty smoked ahi spread. Both sandwiches have lots of lettuce, shredded carrots, and sprouts (if you choose), so they are like salad sandwiches. They're both so good it's hard to choose one. The cash register is right next to the pastry display case, which you should not skip. Their apple and blueberry turnovers are delicious, but the guava pastry is even more so, with flaky and buttery crusts. The oatmeal cookies have raisins and chocolate chips, and taste healthier than most other places. And don't forget their fresh fruit smoothies! When I was a student and then working at UH we would eat here every week, and I really miss eating here since I work downtown now. I will definitely try to come more often, and earlier to get the best pastries! Andy and his family/staff are very friendly and always smiling. We were driving around Manoa and wanted to get something to eat. We parked in the back of Starbucks. I wanted to get a drink. While I was in line to order my drink, my husband disappeared to Andy's to grab a sandwich. He returned with a hot pastrami sandwich $10.99. It had pastrami, cheese, lettuce and sprouts on whole wheat bread. He did not want the tomatoes and carrots. It also came with papaya seed dressing. This sandwich was outstanding and it was huge. I took off the toothpick holding the sandwich together. I opened the sandwich and poured in the small container of papaya seed dressing. It was messy. When it comes to sandwiches it HAS to look like this!!! I can't believe I haven't been here because this sandwich was a 10/10! I got their hot turkey and mushroom sandwich. It was only 9.99 and it had turkey, mushrooms, sprouts, lettuce, carrots and cheese. And the best part, they give you papaya seed dressing on the side to put in your sandwich. It was so good!!!! The workers are super super nice and friendly. It's like a mom & pops restaurant. They were the sweetest. So you pay for your food and wait outside because the inside is not that big. Its been a while since we were last here. Took the kiddos to hike up Manoa Falls and then stopped here to grab some lunch. Short wait before we were allowed inside. Ordered an acai with bananas, smoked ahi and avocado, hot pastrami, and guava and guava cream smoothies. Food was ready fairly quickly. Although we ordered just bananas on the acai, there was granola added too. Kiddo said it was ok. The sandwiches were filled with lots of sprouts and the bread was fresh and soft. Andy's has been fueling me for 8 years and after a long hiatus off the rock I haven't been able to get my fix for a bit given it being so far from where I'm at. When my side quests took me near Manoa this was a gimme. Despite it being so long the menu hasn't changed much despite me forgetting what I normally order haha. Ended up going for the hot turkey mushroom which per normal Andy's fashion was packed to the gills with all kinds of stuff, was super clean and yet flavorful. The papaya dressing was copiously applied and it easily elevated the sandwich to sweet yet savory which was nice. I had to get my iykyk guava crème smoothie which has never hit better after what feels like forever ago. Consistency for me is key and this has never missed not clumpy and never runny. Andy's remains for me a staple of the rotation and will be for yours if you haven't already added it. read more

Brunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... I tried to take my dentist to Andy's Sandwiches and she said it's takeout only. She said it's such a great small business because everything is fresh, good, generously portioned, and the prices are reasonable! I told her that I could never find Andy's Sandwiches & Smoothies. She said that it's across from Manoa Marketplace, next to Starbucks. Oh... i was looking for it at Manoa Marketplace... LOL! Note: They have a free parking lot in the back... and street parking. Tip: go early because as I was leaving, it was kinda crowded The interior is a cozy, no-frills type of place. Go up to the counter, place your order, and take your bill to the cashier by the door. You can add some pastries to your order there. The nice auntie at the counter will find you and bring your package to you. When I got home, I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwiches. They were wrapped in foil and topped with parchment paper and napkins. The Eggplant Melt and Roast Beef/tomato/avocado/cheese sandwich were messy because they were stuffed with veggies like sprouts, lettuce, and carrots. Each sandwich half had a toothpick to hold everything in place. Also - the papaya seed dressing that came with the Eggplant Melt was spot on! It made the sandwich "moa bettah"! I've been coming to Andy's since I was a little kid, but have not been back in years. I recently stopped by and was so pleased to see that nothing has changed. The quality is just as amazing and the menu is the exact same as it was a decade ago. Though as expected, the prices are slightly higher. I ordered the turkey, avocado, tomato cheese sandwich, and a guava smoothie. For the two items my total was about $20, which is pricey for the small amount of food I got. However, the sandwich is amazing. I love that they use real turkey meat pieces and not deli meat. The guava smoothie is also super yummy and sweet, but not overly sweet. I really love that they use real fruit! The owner, Andy, said that they took away their inside tables during COVID, so if you're looking for a place to eat your sandwiches, you do have to walk over to the outside tables by Safeway across the street. All in all, this is my favorite sandwich shop though it lacks ambiance to sit down and enjoy your meal, it is a must try if you've never been. There's street parking or a shopping center across the road but you will have to walk a bit no matter what. The poke place always has a long line and when you order here, they'll ask you to wait outside while it's being prepared-- so don't let the people / other line deter you from coming here. Andy's is known for their sandwiches but they also have smoothies, pastries, and breakfasts. I haven't been here for breakfast but have heard good things. Parking is limited so we did park across the street at the shopping center. If it's your first time, just a heads-up: you'll want to head to the sandwich counter in the back to place your order. They'll give you a little paper slip to bring to the checkout counter up front, and after you pay, you'll wait outside and they'll bring your food out to you. We tried the ahi, tuna, and pastrami sandwiches. Each one was really good on its own. Super fresh ingredients and soft bread. But what really took them up a notch was the papaya dressing they give you on the side. I will probably say that we are there a minimum of twice a month. They have great prices and the family owned business is so nice. Andy's has been around for decades, yet today was the first time we went there. Parking can be a challenge as there is a tiny lot for 6 cars behind the building. I guess you could park across the street in the shopping center and walk on over. However, today was our lucky day as a gentleman was leaving right when we turned into the lot. The interior of the place is kinda messy for me, but it could just be their vibe. Handwritten menus, boxes stacked all over the place, their beverage inventory neatly on the shelves. They could use a bigger space, but I guess it works for them. The workers were really friendly as we looked at the menu to decide what to order. We took a few minutes then ordered. She wrote our order on a piece of paper and we walked to the front where the cashier rang us up. It got kinda crowded so we waited outside and they brought the food out to us. Our sandwiches were really good. I got the pastrami sandwich and my daughter got the turkey, avocado tomato cheese sandwich. Was kinda disappointed with the Caesar salad. I got the hot pastrami and apricot turnover and my mom got the smoked ahi with lettuce, tomato, avocado. The pastrami was really good, I got it without mayo. Plenty of meat and a lot of sprouts(which I love!) The turnover had a lot of filling and it was fluffy, fruity, and sweet. My mom loved her sandwich and smoothie. All fresh ingredients. It's a "to-go" sandwich shop. The interior is on the older side. It gives off the vibe that this place has been in business for a while.
