We have been customers of Uncas Gas for over 30 years. Never had any issues, use the gas for cooking only. Had an issue today smelling gas. Called the office and spoke to Jim, very knowledgeable and professional. He immediately scheduled service and they were here in less than 1/2 hour. Ray and his team were so efficient and helpful, switched out our EMPTY tank and tested for leaks and got me back to cooking. I am very impressed with Uncas Gas service. Thank you to all. read more

Am on auto delivery and out of gas for the second time in two years due to another non-delivery by Uncas. When finally able to reach customer service, was told they were unable to get to tank because of snow. I want to thank all the staff at UNCAS GAS for helping when i needed it! I couldn't be more grateful. I had let my tank run empty which meant i needed to be there to have everything turned back on. I had been away and they patiently helped me set a date to get everything back on. Then my partner was taken ill and needed immediate surgery and i had to cancel. I was so worried about what would happen. Mallory helped me reschedule and reassured me that I need not worry. She was so helpful and sympathetic. In fact, in all my dealings with the folks who do customer service, I have had nothing but a good experience. Even today, Sue picked right up and helped. The delivery guys are great too. Uncas Gas promises one date for delivery and that delivery date comes and NO GAS is delivered. And? We were on 'Automatic Delivery'. A total farce and B.S. Uncas Gas CANNOT be reached via phone. You will receive ENDLESS voicemail with insane amount of options. BTW? It does not matter if you leave a voicemail with Uncas Gas..they rarely return calls anyway. We purchased a new gas range and needed our existing gas range disconnected, the appliance store was brining the new range and removing the old one. Tiffany Brown in your Service Department walked me thru the process, scheduling disconnect one day and have an Agent connect the new range the next day. SHE IS AN ASSET TO YOUR company, an excellent employee. The Agent who came was David. He came out disconnected , the next day bright & early connected our new range. We have been with Uncas Gas for MANY years after switching from another company that allowed us to run out of propane several times (we were on automatic refills), then charged us extra for emergency fill ups! This has NEVER happened with Uncas Gas. We recently decided that we are getting too old to maintain our wood stove, so decided to switch over to propane. BIG shout out to Ray and John who came and switched our tanks/regulators/lines for our new set up. They were efficient, friendly (answered all of my questions, even if they were not the smartest questions), and gave great professional advice for when we start using the propane stove. The propane tank that I rent from Uncas Gas has a leak, and that has been confirmed via inspection from Uncas Gas themselves. I've called so many times and been on hold many times in one session. Today I've been on hold for 40+ minutes. At first they said it'll take them 1-2 weeks to replace the tank. Now the date they've given me is nearly a month from now. An Uncas Gas representative told me to call other companies but the other companies won't touch a tank that is not theirs or swap out the tank. We use propane for everything: hot water, heating the house, and cooking. Once it's out we won't be able to do any of those things. read more

We've used Uncas Gas since we moved to Groton 6 years ago, we are on automatic delivery, and never had a problem. After seeing the local news report, I checked my tank gauges and found the tanks to be on empty. We called the emergency line and were told they'd call us back when a driver was available to make a delivery, four hours later, it started turning dark and we figured we were out of luck. At 10pm our phone rang, and they said the driver would be there in a half hour, at 10:45 the truck pulled up and they filled our two tanks. We can't tell you how much we appreciated them coming out late night, and in the dark to get us out of trouble. The driver explained that they are short on delivery drivers and are working crazy hours to catch up. We were impressed. I had Uncas gas for about 6 years with no issues until winter 2024 whe I ran out and couldn't get service for 3 days and almost froze to death during their buy out by another company. They offered a 100.00 credit and their thanks for being a loyal customer. 100.00 doesn't cover the electric I used for my space heater, so I didn't lose feeling in my fingers and toes.I switched to another provider and have now waited 1 month for them to pick up their tanks. I'm also due a refund for the remaining 85 gallons in the tanks. I may need to contact a consumer protection group or the better business bureau. read more

Update: Uncas is now owned by DCC PROPANE in Lisle IL who you can also review. This place has become beyond frustrating. They aren't showing up for auto delivery, phone calls rarely go through, and even going into the office in person can't get anything scheduled. After days of being bounced between multiple useless phone services and leaving messages, I finally had a confirmation that they'd do an emergency delivery and they never showed up. Now I'm trying to get an update and all they can do is "take another message". We've been stuck without heat for days during the coldest week of the year. That said, when I was able to speak with someone in the main office they did at least attempt to help. read more

They finally delivered and filled up our propane tanks and on a Saturday 2/1/2025 just in time as temps were 7-8 degrees when we woke up! Yesterday I cancelled my automatic delivery contract with Uncas Gas. I had been an Uncas customer for 13 years and always got excellent service. Not anymore! Both of the houses I own in town have run out of propane, one last week and another today. Despite repeated calls, some of which went unanswered, no one was able to tell me when or if we would get a delivery. When I did get through, I was told that there were not enough drivers or that the "scheduler" was the only one who knew anything. So, we're without heat and hot water until our new supplier comes on Monday. 20 degrees and 8 inches of snow expected tonight! Uncas Gas is a fantastic example of what happens when small businesses get bought out by corporations. Just look at the recent reviews; not one good review in the past 5. They are now owned by a corporation out of Ireland. The once excellent service has turned into a nightmare. For the past 5 years, we have been with Uncas on automatic delivery. Since fall, we have run out of gas once, and now my tank is sitting below 10, and we can't even get someone on the phone. We were assured we were on automatic delivery and noticed we hadn't gotten filled, so we called three weeks ago. Our scheduled fill was supposed to be Friday the 27th (two weeks after the call), and here we are another week later. I called today 22 minutes after they opened, and I can't get anyone on the phone. Additionally, I can't even pay our bill for our business because no one answers the phone. Let this be a reminder to support local and reject big business. We're switching; they're not even worth one star. I honestly feel bad for their employees, they have to listen to customers daily about how bad they are. I'm sure the work culture there is just as bad. Update: Well, they just topped the charts with this one! Our 10,000 sf commercial space tank is empty. We have thousands of dollars in paint products that can't freeze, and the indoor temperature is 56 degrees as of now, with a spray booth full of half painted product. Second, they screw up the billing and charge me for 2 tanks when I only have one. 3rd, it's been a week since requesting a emergency delivery and so far nothing. Zero stars would be given if possible. My 95 year old grandmother uses them for automatic delivery, and both her heat and stove run on gas. She ran out of gas in November, and I had to get an emergency delivery to have it filled. Customer service initially said we would have to pay a 190.00 service fee, but it was eventually waived because it was their fault for not delivering on automatic delivery. I just stopped by her house to day (it is now January 11), and she is down to less than 15 lbs in the tank, so they obviously have not delivered anything since then. I am on auto delivery and almost on empty - again. They are not responding to calls or communicating with customers. If my tank completely empties, this will be the second time they've done this. I had to call emergency services last time. Very unprofessional. My delivery was to be last week - I began calling last week (even though I'm on auto delivery) - no response. It's disappointing that no one is answering the phones or communicating with their customers. We should not have to worry about running out of propane, when we're on auto delivery/auto pay. Very disappointed in treatment over the phone. Was not made aware of additional charge for next day delivery. Turns out tank was not empty and only needed an 80% refill. Delivery driver was very nice. Told me he didn't need to come into my house and should call the office for a refund. Supervisor was extremely rude and said "look this is not your first time at the rodeo". Customer service is not good. The supervisor continually said I should have said tank was empty. I explained that I am not a propane expert. The gauge said 0% full. Hi asked how did your stove work. It's a gas insert for my fireplace. Beyond disappointed. Have used Uncas gas for nearly 10 years. I hired Uncas Gas to make the switch from an electric stove to a propane stove back in September. They installed the tank, I went through the permit and approval process with the town, and they came back to connect my Viking stove. The stove required a conversion from natural gas to propane, which was included in my total cost. The technician begged his supervisor to stay during the hook up, explaining that he didn't know which parts to use. His supervisor left anyway and the resulting incorrect connection caused a very serious gas leak. I called the emergency number on a Sunday at 5pm with a house full of gas and they didn't even come out. A few days later, the supervisor showed up unannounced at 5pm and pulled the stove apart, causing a considerable amount of damage. He finished at 8pm, leaving an invoice explaining that he had broken the gas regulator (amongst numerous other parts) and TAKEN IT. The invoice recommended we buy a new stove...?!? He also hooked up the gas line directly to the stove, and turned it on without a regulator in place, which could have been disastrous. I went to the office in person and explained what had happened and the supervisor, Kim, assured me that our problem would be taken care of. Uncas Gas found a repair company and, upon inspection, the company determined that the stove had been damaged beyond repair. Kim handed the issue off to a service technician immediately after our conversation in the office and has not followed up or reached out to me or responded to my multiple calls or office visits. Weeks are passing with no resolution, and with no concern or follow up from management. I'm so frustrated with the lack of customer service and general disinterest in the damage caused by THEIR employee. I was already unable to cook for Thanksgiving and it looks like I won't be cooking for Christmas either. I would absolutely not recommend any service be done by these technicians as they are not experienced enough to complete appliance hookups safely. read more

I started using Uncas Gas by default since the tanks were leased by the previous owners of the house I purchased (we just swapped the lease to me). I was hesitant because of the reviews but I have honestly never had any issue with them for the 2+ years I've been their customer. They deliver all the way to Cromwell, I call, tell them what I need, they set it up, and deliver! I don't have it set up to auto pay or auto fill which works for me. I just check when I'm low then call & leave a check. They have always been nice over the phone & I will continue to be their costumer for as long as I own my home. read more

The sales rep, AL, for Uncas gas was very unprofessional to myself and to my wife. I had called 5 hours before our scheduled appointment to reschedule because of work, and I left a message. He showed up anyway, fine...I get it....he didn't check his voicemail. My wife happened to be home so she told him that I had called to reschedule that morning. He threw his hands up in the air and began scolding her on our existing equipment. News flash pal....that's why we called so we could get it done correctly. I called for a propane delivery two days before the new year he said it wouldn't be till after The new year on a Tuesday. But for $199 more on top of the fuel cost and delivery he could come today or tomorrow. And another time before Easter I needed propane delivery for cooking. he said if you don't pay your rental fee I am going to come and get your propane tank! I rent so this tank was already here and he didn't even know! So nonetheless I had to call back and make a payment. And then he says yeah it gets people all the time! Because these people they know that they wont be able to cook their holiday dinners for your kids and their family if they don't pay up as he is deviously laughing! Stay far away from this company! We bought a propane tank outright from Uncas Gas when most other companies push the lease plan on you. Only using a hundred or so gallons a year for a fireplace it wasn't worth renting a tank and then paying nearly a $1 more per gallon. They did a fantastic job installing the tank and have been our propane provider of choice since due to their awesome prices beating out the completion by far!! read more

Very surprised at the negative feedback here for this company. They were so helpful when I could not get Amerigas to commit to a delivery as they were in the process of reducing/eliminating the CT presence. It was January 2021 and I was down to 5% in my tank. I called Uncas, they came out immediately and delivered a tank and got me filled up. Since then, I have had nothing but positive experiences with them. Timely deliveries, nice staff. This company ripped me off. I was using propane for heating my house. They were charging me 4 dollars a gallon. I switched to Connecticut Petroleum and Propane which charged me 1.79 per gallon for first fill up. Uncas gas called me when they were notified I was switching companies and told me I should have talked to them because I should have only been paying about 2.50 per gallon. They admitted they were overcharging me and are not willing to reimburse me for overcharging. I spent 1400 dollars to heat my house last year. They picked up old tanks which were 40 and 45 percent full or about 100 gallons and they refuse to reimburse me for gas in tanks. Uncas gas totally screwed me and the guy who picked the tanks up said you will be back. After being taken advantage of this way I will never do business with them again. read more

My furnace stopped working this past Friday. I called for service at noon and they were here by 3. Took them a bit to find the issue but they made phone calls to other techs for help. Found issue, cleaned and repaired part by 5:30 same day. Only charged for the time they actually worked on furnace, not the time diagnosing the issue. They cleaned up every spec of mess that was made also. I was super happy with them! read more
